Bookmarks bar bookmarks disappearing

Hi,
I have a powerbook g4 and an Intel imac that I sync using isync. During the past week all of the bookmarks that are in my bookmarks bar have been disappearing. I had 8 or 9 up there and then on Monday they disappeared. I replaced 3 or 4 and today they are gone again.
The bookmarks in the drop down menu seem unaffected.
Thank you for your time,
Dan

Very odd indeed. As I don't use iSynch for bookmarks and I don't have a problem of duplication, it seems part of the problem is created by iSynch. Also, since bookmarks display are customized in Safari Preference, the possibility of a corrupted preference file is in the realm of possibility.
Have you tried moving the Safari preference file to your desktop from the ~/Library/Preference folder - .com.apple.safari.plist? Let me know if that affects any change after you restart Safari. If you don't notice any change (may take a day or two to manifest), you can always move the pref. file back into the Library, overwriting the newly created one.

    * If, on Windows, in Firefox 3.6 the menu bar is hidden then press and hold the Alt key down or press F10, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear
    * Go to "View > Toolbars" and check-mark "Menu Bar" with a click on it to make that permanent. See [[Menu bar is missing]]).
    * Make sure that you have the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * If items are missing then see if you can find them in the "View > Toolbars > Customize" window
    * If you see the item in the Customize window then drag it back from the Customize window to one of the toolbars.
    * If, in "View > Toolbars > Customize", you do not see that item then click the "Restore Default Set" button

Sorry, my iPad is mainly used with my PC and I only occasionally connect it to my (fairly new) mac, so my knowledge of the Calendar app and iCal is limited, but I assume that it's a setting somewhere on iCal on the Mac (there is a setting in iCal on the Advanced tab in its Preferences for 'Delete Events ... days after they have passed' - is that ticked ?)

My safari bookmarks disappeared. How do I get them back?

Quit Safari completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the Safari icon. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that didn't work - try this. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Bookmarks disappeared

I have several pdf files that I created and added bookmarks. When I re-open the files, the bookmarks have disappeared as well as the bookmark icon. There is no button to open the bookmarks. This is on a Vista Computer using Acrobat 8.1.It is updated with the latest updates.
I can open the same files on an XP machine with Acrobat 8 and all the bookmark show up fine. So it is something with the Vista machine. Has anybody had any problems with Vista and bookmarks disappearing?
    Thanks for any help.

Click "Bookmarks" in the Safari menu bar and then "Show Bookmarks" or "Edit Bookmarks".
It is possible that one folder can get nested in another folder.

  • All the bookmarks disappeared

All the bookmarks disappeared from Firefox 3.6.13
I browsed through all the articles in support about this, and tried the backup, but it didn't bring solution. I also checked the backup files in notepad, and all the older ones (except the today's) have the bookmarks, but still the restoration doesn't work!
Firefox haven't created an alternative profile, I have only one in
    \Documents and Settings\[my name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

Actually, the problem is still there. A can see all my bookmarks in the roll down menu if I click on bookmarks in the menu bar, but they're not there in the bookmark window (that appears if you click on the bookmark icon in the menu bar) , and I can't find them either in the manage bookmarks panel.
    Please help!
    Thank you!
    Gabor
Ps.: if I repeat the restore function in manage bookmarks panel, then the bookmarks appear on the side Bookmark column, but they are doubled in the roll down menu! :-(((

  • Safari bookmarks disappear on iPad ...just overnight

Safari on iPad....bookmarks disappeared over night and system won't save bookmarks now.  It worked great yesterday so did the software break or was an update released last night?  Help please (iOS 6.0)

The exact same thing happened on my iPad over the last day or two … all of my old bookmarks disappeared and were replaced with just the set of default items (Google, Bing, iPad manual, and a couple of others). I couldn't add any new ones at that point, either. Eventually I tried killing off the Safari task in the bottom bar of background apps, and when I restarted Safari thereafter my old bookmarks were back. Definitely seems like a bug, but at least there was a workaround that helped in my case.

OK, it now sort of works. A couple of problems here:
After updating IOS, Safari iCloud was "automatically" switched off
Switching it on had no effect
resetting my iPad automatically switched off safari iCloud again
after switching it back on, it said "turning off safari data"
switched it off and on again, now it said : "turning on safari data" and the sync worked
    On IOS 7 no problems
The bookmarks not being displayed was because after pressing the book icon, it defaulted to showing the history and I had to press "Back" to get to the other options

  • How can I click on a bookmark and have it open a new page? When I click a bookmark it always opens right in the sidebar, all my bookmarks disappear and I am left with two seperate pages?

I keep my bookmarks open at all times in the sidebar. If I want to go to a site, say Google, I must do a right click on the bookmark and then click on "Open In A New Tab" then the google page opens in a new tab.
I want to skip the second click. I want to be able to simply left click the google booknark in the sidebar and have google open in a new tab.
the way things are now, when I simply do a left click on the google bookmark the new google tab opens in tne sidebar itself. My bookmarks disappear from the sidebar and the google page is opened in the sidebar. So at this point I have two active page open at the same time.
Is there a way to simply left click the bookmark in the sidebar and have the bookmark open as a regular page?
Please pardon my clumsiness as I have only today used FireFox for the first time.

Opening in the Sidebar is the default action for bookmarks that are created via a "Bookmark this Page" link or button on a website. Make sure you use the many "Bookmark this Page" methods that are in Firefox instead.
Right-click that bookmark and select '''Properties''', then un-check the preference for '''Load this bookmark in the sidebar''', and then click Save.

  • My bookmarks disappeared and can't be restored or imported

Perhaps two days ago, some of my bookmarks disappeared, so I decided to revert them a few days earlier to get the missing ones back. Instead of recovering the missing ones, ALL of the bookmarks disappeared and cannot be restored now. I tried resetting Firefox and running in safe mode, and none of those tricks worked. I then went to another computer that had a synced copy of the bookmarks, exported them as HTML and sent them to the sick computer, where they STILL cannot be imported, though I can open the HTML file and access the links that way. The sick computer thinks it has the links to the old bookmarks, and everything I checked seems to be okay, but it is obviously hideously broken...
Windows 7, 64-bit, running on a Toshiba notebook. My various other computers are so far unaffected, but it might be contagious for all I know...
Since this is not the sick computer, I'm not going to add the troubleshooting information at this time, but I'll try to add it when I get back to that machine.

    Try this:
*disable from Sync if you are using it
*go to the Firefox profile folder and delete the places.sqlite file.
This will make Firefox use a JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder, so you may want to move those backups out of that folder if you aren't sure which backup is healthy.
Note that the xxxx part in the file name designates the number of bookmark in the file, $$$$ is a hash to avoid creating unnecessary backups with the same content.
    *bookmarks-####-##-##_xxxx_$$$$.json

  • I synced my data and all my bookmarks disappeared is there a way to undo the sync and get them back?

I believed that my laptop and desktop were set up to sync my laptop's data to my desktop. The desktop had no bookmarks on it, when I hit the sync button on my laptop all my bookmarks disappeared. It appears that the desktop replaced the laptop's data instead...
Is there a way to get them back?

Restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder that still has them.

  • Acrobat 9.0 - bookmarks disappear

This just started happening and I'm not sure why. When I click on a bookmark, all of the bookmarks disappear. I have to keep reopening the bookmarks to see them every time I click on one. I use this feature extensively so it's more than a minor nuisance.
Does anyone know where the setting is to stop this or how to fix the problem?

This happens when I replace an individual page. The pages are linked together with bookmarks. (This is a map book.) The bookmarks sometimes disappear when I click on them, so I have been saving the page, closing it, then reopening. The bookmarks are visible for a split second then they disappear. Not the bookmark panel, but the words themselves. Hide after use is unchecked. In the PDF optimizer, which I rarely use intentionally, everything concerning bookmarks is unchecked. This does not happen every time I replace a page, only about every other page, which is still annoying. I tried rebooting my computer to see if it was a memory issue, but it still happened on a fresh boot. This has only happened to me with Acrobat V 9 Pro. (9.4 currently)

  • Bookmarks Disappear After Import

I just set up a new user (1st time having done so) on my 2010 iMac running OS 10.9.5 with Safari 7.1. I imported bookmarks from the Windows XP version of Firefox into Safari and all seemed to be fine. The bookmarks worked every time without a problem. I then closed Safari and reopened it only to find all the imported bookmarks have disappeared. I tried reimporting three times and it happened each time. I also installed the Add to Amazon Wish List extension and, that too, disappeared each time.
Also, it will not maintain a Homepage. That disappears as well.
Why is this happening and how do I correct the situation? Your help is most appreciated. Thanks!

Based on a few replies in another forum there apparently is no reason why the bookmarks should be disappearing, but they still are.
In an attempt to solve this problem, I just tried giving my wife's user account admin privileges, restarted the computer, opened Safari, imported the bookmarks, closed Safari, reopened Safari and, yet again, the bookmarks disappeared.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
