Bookmarks bar "hanging" problem?

I have folders on my bookmarks bar with bookmarks in the folders. When I click on the folders (or the down arrow next to the folder), I get no response at least 50% of the time - the folder does'nt drop down and display it's list of bookmarks. If I move the pointer down into the browser window, and randomly click there, and then go back up to the folder and click, it usually will then work. Another words, the folders on my bookmarks bar are "hanging" quite often. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a known fix for it?

Hello,
I have folders at several levels, and everything works fine. Perhaps you reinstall the bookmarks, or even safari?

  • TS4001 iCloud Syncs my Desktop Bookmark Bar items to my iOS Bookmark Menu, folders only

I have all of my bookmarks in Safari on my desktop (OS X 10.7.5) via the Bookmark BAR - I have them organized in folders for ease, and I like it that way.
When I use iCloud to sync Bookmarks to my iOS devices (iPad Retina and iPod Touch, latest iOS), the result is that I end up with a series of bookmark folders in the "Bookmark Menu (not the Bookmark Bar) that duplicates bookmarks and folders that I have on my iMac desktop in the Bookmark Bar.
Problem 1.  I don't want them in the Bookmark Menu on my iOS devices, I want them in the Bookmark Bar so I can use them from the bar.
Problem 2.  Even if I wanted to use what ends up on my iOS devices, I can't because none of the bookmarks in the folders are there, only a series of folders.  The only actual bookmarks that are on my iOS devices are those that are not in folders - and again, those few are in the Bookmark Menu, not the Bookmark Bar.
    Can anyone help with this?
    iMac 27-inch, Mid 2011; 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 running OS X Lion 10.7.5
    iPod Model PC544LL/A; version 6.1.3
    iPad Model MD515LL/A; version 6.1.3

So what you are saying is that if I save a url on my desktop Mac as a Boomark Bar item, it SHOULd sync to the Bookmark Bar on my iOS devices?  That was the issue I was complaining about.  It was not.  Please confirm that because I am only assuming that from your last paragraph above.
As for the whole duplicate thing, from my searching the forums today I realize that is a common "issue" people are complaining about - that their bookmark bar items are also showing in the bookmark menu.  I think that is what you were referring to.
So I did try your set of steps in your last paragraph above and they did not work.  In fact, nothing seemed to sync except the test Boomark Bar folder addition I made on my iPad which synced to my iPod touch.  Other than that, nothing else synced from my Desktop - neither in my Bookmark Bar or my Boomark Menu.
Posbily related - Unforntunately, becasue I was having this problem earlier and also had noticed the whole issue with the fact I had all of the same folders on my Desktop Bookmark Menu as I had in my Desktop Bar - I tried to solve that issue by deleting all of the items under my Bookmark Menu, and now I do not have anything in that folder except:
    Recent Tags
    Recently Bookmarked
    Get Bookmark Add-ons
Feeds (folder with items in it)
    Unsorted Bookmarks (folder empty)
Is that part of my problem now?
    Thanks,

  • Hello - When I installed OSX 10.8 on my iMac, all my bookmarks and the bookmarks bar were gone.  On my two MB Pros they carried over with no problem.  How can I retrieve them?  Thanks

All my bookmarks and bookmark bar entries were gone when I installed Mountain Lion on my IMac.  When I installed in on my two MB Pros, they carried over without a problem.  How can I retrieve them?  Thanks.

Make an archive copy from one of the MBP (File>Export Bookmarks).  You may not need it, but if things sync the wrong way on iCloud, you may lose them on all your devices.
Then check out iCloud on the iMac. Is your stuff on iCloud.com?  Maybe try logging out and back in again.

  • Safari 6.0.5. Bookmark bar list view Problem

I am running safari 6.0.5. I have a problem with the Bookmark bar. It recently changed from a list view to a scrollable preview of websites. I would like to return to list view.

In the middle of the bottom edge of the black area in the bookmarks window, there's a "grab handle" represented by three short, faint horizontal lines. When you move the cursor there, it changes to a hand. Click and drag the grab handle upward.

  • Bookmarks bar and home page problem in Safari 8.02

Safari 8.0.2 is driving me mad with it’s apparent differences from previous versions. Principally, I no longer have a bookmarks bar and cannot set a home page. So, off I went to the Apple support site at http://www.apple.com/support/mac-apps/safari/ and was amazed to find no reference to 8.02? It all seems to be about Safari 7. (How I wish I could actually go back to that version)
Am I just not seeing something obvious past the frustration of continually finding that so many tasks which used to be so easy in previous OS versions, seem to be so confusing in Yosemite? I am currently running Safari 8.02 installed and updated courtesy of the, (for me at least) disastrous Yosemite 10.10.1.
It really gets my back up to think that Apple forces users to depend on the goodwill of the volunteers on this forum to solve problems with their OS. Clearly, they don’t make enough money to provide the resources to keep their own support pages up to date!
Sorry all, end of rant, but If anybody knows how to get the bookmarks bar back and get the home page preference setting to actually work, can you please help me?
    John

    Hello Linc,
Thanks for your speedy reply. I knew it would be something embarrassingly simple. (although I have to say I was looking for bookmarks, not favourites) Anyway, thank you.
Reference the home page, I am going to preferences/general, with my desired home page as the current one and clicking on set to current page option but whenever I restart Safari, it opens with whatever page was current when I last quit Safari. I have also tried typing the desired homepage in that homepage box but it still seems to have a mind of its own. (I have put a home page icon on the menu bar at the top, next to the url which works fine but I never had to do this before, the homepage setting in general preferences used to work just fine)
    regards,
    John

  • Problem with the folders in bookmarks bar

I have many folders in my bookmarks bar that are set to open all on click (have the square beside them). I know that if I click and hold, the links should drop down and I should be able to choose to open just one. The problem is that when I click and hold they don't drop down. I used to have to try about three times before it would work, in Leopard. But since Snow Leopard it hardly ever works. Any suggestions?

  • Bookmarks Bar problem...

Just started happening yesterday: when I bookmark anything, it it saves the bookmark in the Bookmarks Bar folder under "Bookmarks" (when you view the "show all bookmarks" section), but not the actual Bookmarks Bar under "Collections" or the actual usable Bookmarks Bar at the top of the Safari window.
So, it's making a bookmark, just not anywhere it's usable.
I've tried deleting and restoring the bookmarks plist, but it didn't help.
    Thanks,
    Rob

Just tried your suggestion and I can make bookmarks to the proper Bookmarks Bar itself, but none of the organizational subfolders themselves. So, it'll show up on the bar, but if I bookmark it to a folder that shows on the Bar, it doesn't show up there. But the new bookmark does show correctly in the Bookmarks Bar folder in the Bookmarks section, if that makes sense. so it's still not right.
Also, I erased the whole Safari preference file and started from scratch and have the same issue, as well as restoring from Time Machine to before this was happening, and still the same problem.

  • Nested folders problem in Bookmarks Bar

When I want to save a web page to my bookmark bar, I hit "command-D" and then choose the folder I want the page to reside in. No problems there.
However, I have about 100 folders in my Bookmarks Bar, many of them with nested folders inside, and some of those with nested folders in them as well. Hitting "command-D" shows me all of the folders, *but all open*, ie showing all of the nested folders as well, thus making it a very time consuming process to find the folder I want.
I seem to remember in an earlier (much earlier?) version of Safari, it would just show me the main folders, with a "►" next to them, thus making it very easy to scan the main folders before delving into the nested folders. Many other programs (Default Folder X) manage this without any problem at all, making it very easy to scroll down, then across etc until you find the place you want.
Is there any way to make Safari "close" the main folders, and make my life much easier?
I hope my description is clear!
    Thank you.

KS, there is no triangle to click. That's the problem.
Anyhow, I just tried this on an old Powerbook running Mac OS 10.4 Tiger and Safari 4.1. It does not have disclosure triangles in this menu either. So, this is definitely nothing new. Although I haven't thought this through completely, I believe this is the only way that a menu can behave, behave when you click a menu item, its action is executed. There can be only one action, which in this case is to place the bookmark. If there were a disclosure triangle, expanding or collapsing the folder would be a different action.
This behavior is built into Safari. It could possibly be modified by a extension, or more likely, a hack. I'd need to do a little research. But the behavior you see is definitely as Apple designed it. (Terminology: An "extension" is a "legal" hack which uses API provided by Apple. A "hack" uses reverse-engineered, private API and is not sanctioned by Apple.)
Disclosure triangles, the things you can click to expand or collapse a folder, or more generally, a "container item", are available in outline views, such as in Safari's Show All Bookmarks window. I don't recall ever seeing one in a menu. If Default Folder does it, I'd like to see a screenshot.

  • Problems opening a New Tab in Safari from Bookmark Bar Folder

When I am in Safari and attempt to Open a link to a new tab from the Bookmark Bar that is part of a Folder on the Bookmark bar it does nothing.
I can change the preferences to auto-click for the Bookmark Folders, but then every link loads when I try to access the folder from the Bookmark Bar. Very cool to see lots of pages loading at once, but not what I'm after. Doesn't seem to be a way to just load 1 link from the folder
If its a single link on the Bookmark Bar that has not been organized into a Folder it does work.

You know what? - my Safari works just the same way.... but I'd never noticed before.
I've used apple-click to open single bookmarks from the bar, many times. But have always ( for no particular reason) opened a new tab first ( apple-T ) if I've been looking for bookmarks within a folder.

  • How do I drag a link to the bookmarks bar?

This started with a simple attempt to install an app that will let me see page source at sites I'm looking at (I'm doing web development and learning to customize for iphone). When I went to a site to get me started, it said all I had to do was drag thhis link ("this link" was hyperlinked text) to the bookmarks bar. I tried touching the link and dragging it to bookmarks bar but that just moved the whole page. I tried holding my finger on the link until it showed a gray background and dragging to the book marks bar. Same problem. I googled dragging links and found some sites that talked about using a + symbol in the bookmarks bar. I don't see one. I have an iPhone 3GS, and the bookmarks bar has a left arrow, right arrow, box with an arrow pointing out of it, open book symbol and double page symbol. So I looked for another way to add this ability to view source, and found a page where I guy had developed a little JavaScript that needed to be added to my iPhone. He suggested I email it to my iPhone, then copy and paste it to a specific location. So I googled how to copy and paste on an iPhone. Guess what? Found another page where I was instructed to drag "this link" to the bookmarks bar to give me the ability to cut and paste. I tried all kinds of finger tricks in the email, trying to copy the JavaSCript and finally gave up in complete aggravation. These should be baby steps and I can't make any of them work.
On top of everything else, I can't even get iSafari to have a simple home page. What's up with that /#X%&*\# ?
Very, very frustrated.  On a desktop PC I'm very good with all kinds of software and system tools and tweaks. On my groovy new iPhone, I feel like a dope. What happened to the intuitive interface of Apple products?  Help?

Yes, I'm familiar with the old RTFM rule, but I tried four different times to retrieve that manual form the Apple site. Each time got an error message that something was wrong, that they were working on it, and to please come back later. On the fifth try last night, I got through and successfully downloaded the user guide.  Woo hoo!

  • Can you remove the "View All RSS Articles" and Counter in Bookmarks Bar?

Hi There. I have a folder/drop down menus called "MyMix" in the Bookmarks Bar with several subfolders of pages I like to visit regularly. It's a silly thing but I get tired of the climbing counter of RSS articles in parentheses that sits next to it. Is there anyway to remove that functionality? I have a few other drop down menus that don't have the same problem, so not sure why this one does it. I've tried copying the folder and taking out each individual subfolder but it still keeps the RSS counter and "View All RSS Articles" link in there.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Awesome, thank you. I should've checked preferences myself. Duh.
Still curious as to why it chose that folder instead of the other one's I have to display the RSS updates but I guess that will remain a mystery.
    Thanks for your help!

  • In Firefox 4 with IE Tab 1.98.2011.322 Right clicking on a bookmark in the bookmark bar no longer brings up the option to open in an IE Tab.

In the previous version of Firefox when I right clicked on a bookmark in the bookmark bar the IE Tab options would appear. They no longer do since I have moved to Version 4. It would be great to get this ability back.. Thanks

  • Why can't I enlarge safari bar and bookmarks bar so the print is larger.  I can only do this if I change resolution on display.  I do not want to make my 27" smaller.  Any comments?

After just installing Mountain Lion on mid 2011 iMac 27" I find it does not allow increasing size of font for Safari bar and Bookmarks bar.  The print is so small it is difficult to see.  I can change resolution of screen but the the size of the screen becomes smaller.  Not what I had in mind when I bought this iMac.  Is there any fix out there and is Apple working on this problem?  Any comments would be appreciated.  Thanks.

  • I want to make the adress bar smaller so that my bookmark bar can show more than three icons when placed on the same row.

I want to have about five to ten bookmark icons in the same row as the search and address bar. So i use Customize... and I put the bookmark bar on the same line. I leave the "Name"-textbox in every bookmark blank so that only the icons appear.
However, only two icons appear and the rest are displayed in a drop down menu from an arrow you click.
I don't need the address bar to take 70% of the screen. I don't want the bookmark bar to use an extra row. I just want to have five to ten bookmark icons next to my address and search bar. Is this possible?

What do you mean with "Save passwords" checkbox?
Is that box provided by an extension?
