Bookmarks based on Word Headings lose the level number

I have used Acrobat Pro 8 successfully for several years to create PDFs of Word 2003 documents with bookmarks based on Word Headings and custom styles.
Occasionally a level number was missing from a bookmark but it was easy to correct the PDF. I'm still using the same software but now I find that level numbers are missing for all level 1 headings and many for levels 2 and 3 - too many to correct in the PDFs. I have checked and reset the conversion settings for bookmarks and also tried different combinations but the missing levels are not restored.
Does anyone know of a workaround?

Have you tried an update of both Acrobat and WORD. Sometimes WORD has issues and gets updated, not just Acrobat. It may be that you got a recent MS update to WORD that broke things.

  • CHANGE THE LEVEL NUMBER IN AN SQL QUERY

    Hi
    I've this query:
    SELECT LEVEL,LPAD(' ',(LEVEL+1)*5,' ')||ENAME ENAME
    FROM EMP
    START WITH MGR IS NULL
    CONNECT BY PRIOR EMPNO = MGR
    the result is:
    LEVEL ENAME
    1 KING
    2 JONES
    3 SCOTT
    2 FORD
    3 SMITH
    my question is that if i except FORD how can i change the level number to SMITH from 3 to 2.
    for example:
    SELECT LEVEL,LPAD(' ',(LEVEL+1)*5,' ')||ENAME ENAME
    FROM EMP
    WHERE ENAME <> 'FORD'
    START WITH MGR IS NULL
    CONNECT BY PRIOR EMPNO= MGR
    the result is:
    LEVEL ENAME
    1 KING
    2 JONES
    3 SCOTT
    2 SMITH
    regards

    Hi,
    If you notice the level of SMITH is 4 in the initial query but when you exclude FORD, then SMITH is taking up his level i.e., 3.

  • How do i convert a multi page pdf to a word doc w the same number of pages?

    My file started in Adobe Illustrator. It has several pages of text.  I converted to a pdf. When I tried to convert to Word with Export PDF, all the pages ended up on a single page, instead of a Word doc with the same number of pages. What do i do to get a pdf of 7 pages to convert to a 7-page Word doc?

    Word page layouts are fixed like PDFs. Just add page breaks as needed. But don't expect any kind of good result. If Word could do fancy layout, we wouldn't need Illustrator.

  • If I do a clean install, will I lose the serial number...

    from the "about this mac" application. It's nice to have that there in case your dealing with Apple. I know in the past I did something that wiped it out.

    No you won't lose it doing a clean install, the only way I'm aware it would be lost it is if you had the logic board replaced. I'm sure you will write it down just in case though.

  • How do I know the level when I click an item in the tree?

    Hi,
       When I click a tree node in tree component, how do I know the level of this item?
       E.g., if I click the root node, then I get the level number 1, if I click second level node, I get the number 2 etc.
       Thanks!

    Hi,
    You can get to know the level of a tree by the ID of its node.
    Like,what i did was,In the layout,
    <htmlb:treeNode id      = "root"
                    text    = "MRF LIST"
                    isOpen  = "true">
       <htmlb:treeNode id      = "node1"
                       text    = "MRF's To Be Processed"
                       isOpen  = "true"
                       tooltip = "MRF's to do"
                       toggle  = "X">
    <%data :tab_0 type ZDI_MRF.%>
       <%loop at tab_mrf_0 into tab_0.%>
          <htmlb:treeNode id     = "node1<%=sy-tabix%>"
                          text   = "<%=tab_0-MRF_NUM%>"
                          image  = "@02@"
                          onNodeClick="show">
           </htmlb:treeNode>
        <% endloop.%>
    By this,on node click in onInputProcessing,we can process it as
    if  event->id = 'myTree1' and event->event_type = 'click'.
         data : t_event type ref to cl_htmlb_event_tree.
         t_event ?=  event.
         temp = t_event->node.
       <b>  if strlen( temp ) ge '6'. </b>
         data : x type string ,
                tab type zdi_mrf.
       <b>  if temp ca 'node1%'. </b>
                split temp at '1' into x node1.
              endif.
    By this you can get the length of the ID and hence get the level,say id strlen( temp ) = 4 ,then node = root ,if strlen( temp ) = 5 ,then level 1.
    Maybe you can do something similar.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,
    Siddhartha

  • Is it possible to change the display mode of the dB Number on level meter?

    the default dB number just shows up the maxi happened peak level and keeps
    holding the level number until the next higher level. any one know if there is any other mode to have?

    It's a headroom meter, and can be reset by clicking it (there is a key command for this also).
    It's purpose is to let you know the maximum level your channel has reached, and therefore how much headroom you have (or not). I'm not sure what other "modes" you'd want - what did you have in mind?

  • Word Headings- ALL become bookmarks in the PDF

    Just started using Acrobat X Pro. (bought with TCS4)
    When I make a Word 2010 document into a pdf, ALL the Word headings seem to become bookmarks visible in the left pane of Acrobat or the Reader, and of the main chapter hedaings, every subsection is expanded!
    Previously, with Acrobat 6, my manuals were created with only the chapter headings visible and these were all collapsed. It looked much neater and the reader could then expand the chapter he or she needed.
    I checked the options that I could find but I don't see how to ensure only the chapter headings are initially visible in the bookmaks pane and the sub headings only appear when you expand a main heading.
    I tried searching the forum too but couldn't see a topic like this.
    By the way, did Adobe sales know that Acrobat XI was about to be released when I bought TCS4 with Acrobat X a couple of weeks ago??
    Seems it would have been fair to offer me an upgrade to XI when Iwas buying TCS4 so close to release of Acrobat XI !
    Is there a way to ensure the Word headings are listed correctly in the bookmarks pane?

    I checked that but even though I have headings 1,2 and 3 selected,the pdf is created with bookmarks that are not correct.
    I did some more tests and I found that different documents do come out with different problems in the bookmarks, but the common factor I realised is that bookmarks are created in the wrong order and wrong priority (i.e. indent levels) and many are missing and should have appeared based on the selections I made on the preferences.
    I have discovered how to drag a bookmark manually to be under a main heading etc. then save the document again but this is time consuming and needs redoing every time (sometimes I have to update the same manual several times a day, when errors are discovered or additions are made; many manuals are involved too.)
    I don't know if this is a configuration issue or if it is a bug.
    Could there be problems caused by Word formatting?
    More analysis shows me that:
    1. many of our documents are in word 2003 format (.doc) so others without Word 201 can open them, although I am now using Word 2010.
    2. Our manuals are formatted using 2 column tables throughout, with sub headings in the left column and text and images in the right column.
    3. I found many areas of the tables where the left column has a heading format code hidden inside, even though there is no heading text in there.
    I tried setting a lot of these to "normal" style and saved then reconverted to pdf but I don't think this made a difference.

  • Headings are getting bookmarked while importing word document to Robohelp 9

    HI everyone. Easter wishes in advance.
    I have a problem while importing word document to Robohelp.
    Version - MS Word 2010
    Robohelp 9
    While I import word document to Robohelp after mapping styles, my heading styles are getting tagged as bookmarks in RH.
    I have customized word template along with customized RH css.
    How can I prevent the headings (all the heading level used in a document) getting tagged as bookmark after I import word docs to RH.
    If there is no solution is there any solution to remove bookmarks at one go from RH.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    The quickest way to resolve this is to create a new project and import a document that causes this problem. Zip up the project and document and send it to me via my site so that I can take a look.
    You can strip out any confidential content and it only needs to be a document short enough to show the problem.

  • How to use the Report Generation Toolkit to get a list of bookmarks in a Word Template

    I am working on a project where I will need to use the Report Generation Toolkit to fill out a fairly long Word Template. The MS Office Report Express VI can only have inputs for a maximum of 17 bookmarks which is not nearly enough for what I am needing to do.
    I'm wondering if there is some way to use the lower level report generation VIs to read the word template and return a list of the bookmark names as a 1d array of string. The dialog box that you use to set up the Express VI has this capability but I'm not finding a way to scan the document programatically.
    I'm sure I can't be the first person to run into this issue and I'm hoping that someone out there has found a good solution.
    Solved!

    Wordsub.llb should be somewhere in your Labview folder on your local drive. The path to it in my install is: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.6\vi.lib\addons\_office\_wordsub.llb
    Also what specific problem are you referring to about 17 bookmarks? Is that the limit on the express style VI for filling them in from LV? If so what you will need to do is to use the lower level function 'Word Insert Field' under Word Advanced VIs. You will need to supply the VI the name of the bookmark and the text you want to insert.

  • Bookmarks are not automatically creating based on Word 2013 Table of Contents.

    Bookmarks are not automatically creating based on Word 2013 Table of Contents.  In older version of Word, the Style built Table of Contents converted into Bookmarks when PDFing.

    I figured it out.  There is a new checkbox you must turn on in Word 2013 when export to PDF that allows it to convert items to Bookmarks when PDFing.

  • Categories based on the level of expertise / experience

    UPDATE
    *From now on I will not follow the posts in this topic. My last message can be found Re: categories based on the level of expertise / experience*
    Franky
    Hello,
    I think the best would be to make categories in the forum based on the level of expertise / experience . As I can see the overall quality of the forum has decreased ... a lot.
    I don't know why OPs think that volunteers are here :
    - to answer non correctly interpreted questions,
    - to give instant answers,
    - to read the docs for them,
    - to be mentalists,
    - to be psychologists,
    - etc...
    My suggestion is to create 3 categories:
    - novice (no certification & small amount of reward points)
    - intermediate (OCA || no certification & medium amount of reward points)
    - guru     (OCM || OCP || OCA & medium amount of reward points || no certification & high amount of reward points)
    (The OCM of course could be in the 4th category, but without having that many OCMs around I doubt that it would be useful.)
    Lower level accounts could only read the higher level threads, higher level accounts could write to lower level threads. If a higher level OP doesn't want to physically see lower level threads, then he / she could setup this in his / her profile.
    I hope that my sentences will not provoke anyone here. I've always said that "if something bothers me then I will try to change it, if I cannot then I let it be".
    Franky
    P.S. : I would be glad to see some tips from others as well.
    P.S.2 : No flame please!
    P.S.3. : SPOILER(!) In case everything fails then I will be looking for another community. So, if there are Oracle - dba - forums with community members having an average of 5-10 or more years of experience , then please don't hesitate to write the urls of these in your reply... Thanks.
    Edited by: Franky on Aug 13, 2009 1:51 AM - extended

    Hello Nicolas,
    I think you're missing the point here: I didn't say that OCPs are "that good" or people having no certification are " that bad". No, this would be silly.
    Your definition of novice is wrong, there are very knowledge people without certification (who told you a certified guy is a good DBA ?) and with very few "reward points" over here (who told you a "zero-point" guy is a bad DBA ?).
    Novice on the forum would mean - no certification, no reward points = NO FEEDBACK !!!!!
    Intermediate, guru on the forum would mean - certification or reward points = FEEDBACK !!!!
    A community cannot rely on personal impressions like "I know that he is a good dba!" In this system everyone had to earn the status regardless of his/her job title. The community must have background information before setting the right level. If you have any tip how to setup categories, then feel free the share your thoughts.
    +Same for intermediate or guru, this is a non-sense definition. I know many OCP DBA who are really novice, and again, point system here is just ridiculous.+
    What do you think what would happen to those who have OCA or OCP and cannot answer anythig on their level? I will tell you - nothing. They will continue to reply to lower level threads. That's all. I don't think they would open questions on their level either, becuase it would be too embarrassing...
    What is the value of 10 points taken when given a doc link ?
    Why are you asking me about this? The OP should decide whether the link "worths" 10 points or not. By the way I don't think that OCPs or OCMs would ask such questions....
    Well, I'm sure your thread is an open door to discuss on 1) point system on forum (again and again) 2) the value of certification (which have never meant you're a guru).
    Ok, I see that the word "guru" is a splinter in your eyes. Feel free to rename it! :-) The value of the certification depends on how much effort has been put into it. If one does it by clicking here and there and everywhere and somehow it's enough to pass the exam - then I agree. If one learns, not only by reading the docs, but by working full time with Oracle itself, then I disagree.
    Franky
    P.S.: Once again I hope that this is going to be a proactive thread with many good thoughts. Words like "non-sense" or "ridiculous" let me believe that I'm just waisting my time here....

  • In Firefox4, can I lose the folder icons from the Bookmarks Bar while keeping icons everywhere else (because the folder icons are superfluous and extend the horizontal list of bookmark folders beyond the width of the window)?

    I've just installed Firefox4 for Mac (OS 10.6.7) and can no longer see all my bookmark folders at once across the top -- because the folder icons make the Bookmarks Bar too wide. Yet, I like the icons on the other bars, so I don't want to turn them off globally. Is there a way to just lose the folder icons -- which don't appear to serve a purpose anyway?

    Small correction to original post. Machine is an iMac 2.4ghz Intel Core 2 Duo. (I was at home when I made the first post.) But the bookmarks menu behavior still exists today and FF 5 is essentially unusable.
    System details next to the post are not for machine with the bug in question.
    Found a copy of FF4 to use until a solution is found. Turned off automatic updates to preserve this version.

    If the Word file is a document file type (.doc), you may be able to save it as a .html file, then import that .html file into Firefox.
    In Word, open the .doc file containing the Bookmarks,
    *click File > Save As,
    *in the "Save in" box, choose a Folder or location on your hard drive to save the file where you can find it later,
    *in the "Save type as" box choose ".html",
    *in the "Filename box" enter "bookmarks.html" (without the quotation marks),
    *click "Save"
    Then follow the-edmeister's instruction in Firefox:
    *Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks -> Import & Backup - Import HTML... = from an HTML file
    *See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Importing%20Bookmarks%20from%20an%20HTML%20File
