Bookmarks come and go

My bookmarks in Safari disappear and are gone for several hours and then they are back. This happens sometimes every day, sometimes just about once a week. It all started when I updated to the new IOS version. How can I end this irritating coming and going of my bookmarks. I am not using Icloud for back up.

Favicons. Most websites have them, some don't. They should remain stuck in your cache unless you've deleted it recently.

  • The only way I can open a new tab is by right-clicking a bookmarked site and selecting "Open in a New Tab." I can't click on the New Tab + or CTR+T or open via File. WHY?!?

The only way I can open a new tab in Firefox is by right-clicking a bookmarked site and selecting "Open in a New Tab." I can't click on the New Tab + or CTR+T or open via File. WHY don't the other means work?

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:
    * Check the Windows Control panel for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
    * Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

  • How do I get my bookmarks back and can I speak with a person?

I upgraded Firefox and now I cannot get to my bookmarks. Much of my work is in that list. When I click on bookmarks, it asks me to "sign in" to access my google bookmarks. I'm already signed in and still, no access! Can I speak with a human who can help me through this? Are there humans at the other end of a phone who work and trouble shoot issues like this?

    See [[/questions/875112]]
Google has changed the domain for signing in to accounts.google.com and the Google toolbar is still using the old and longer working www.google.com/accounts domain.
You will have to update that domain yourself by editing a file used by the Google Toolbar.
*Go to the extension folder in the Firefox profile folder and find the folder with the Google Toolbar
*Open up lib\toolbar.js with a plain text editor
    *Replace: www.google.com/accounts with accounts.google.com

  • Problems with my Firefox so I changed browser to Google Chrome and lost all Firefox bookmarks, tags and other sites how do i retrieve those?

I kept getting performance issues with Firefox 3.6 from the add-ons to crashes. I then chose to try Google Chrome as the main browser and somehow it uninstalled the Mozilla Firefox and all the toolbars, bookmarks and all were uninstalled without importing.
On one hand it's good since the browser is cleaner and functioning better now especially after many attempts with YouTube and other video streaming sites.
Is there a way to retrieve all those lost items or are they considered gone?
    Thanks for your assistance.

Please read this article about restoring bookmarks:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks
As far as your passwords are concerned, I don't think there's anything you can do. But for the future, you can use the following add-ons to avoid any future loss:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2848/
    or
    http://www.xmarks.com/
    Both are good.
And a simple way to import your bookmarks (since you already saved it on your desktop as html) is:
Bookmarks / Organized Bookmarks / Import and Export
    Good luck.

  • Bookmarks bar and home page problem in Safari 8.02

Safari 8.0.2 is driving me mad with it’s apparent differences from previous versions. Principally, I no longer have a bookmarks bar and cannot set a home page. So, off I went to the Apple support site at http://www.apple.com/support/mac-apps/safari/ and was amazed to find no reference to 8.02? It all seems to be about Safari 7. (How I wish I could actually go back to that version)
Am I just not seeing something obvious past the frustration of continually finding that so many tasks which used to be so easy in previous OS versions, seem to be so confusing in Yosemite? I am currently running Safari 8.02 installed and updated courtesy of the, (for me at least) disastrous Yosemite 10.10.1.
It really gets my back up to think that Apple forces users to depend on the goodwill of the volunteers on this forum to solve problems with their OS. Clearly, they don’t make enough money to provide the resources to keep their own support pages up to date!
Sorry all, end of rant, but If anybody knows how to get the bookmarks bar back and get the home page preference setting to actually work, can you please help me?
    John

    Hello Linc,
Thanks for your speedy reply. I knew it would be something embarrassingly simple. (although I have to say I was looking for bookmarks, not favourites) Anyway, thank you.
Reference the home page, I am going to preferences/general, with my desired home page as the current one and clicking on set to current page option but whenever I restart Safari, it opens with whatever page was current when I last quit Safari. I have also tried typing the desired homepage in that homepage box but it still seems to have a mind of its own. (I have put a home page icon on the menu bar at the top, next to the url which works fine but I never had to do this before, the homepage setting in general preferences used to work just fine)
    regards,
    John

  • Bookmarks deleted and not readding when trying to re bookmark

When I got up this morning I noticed all my bookmarks had been deleted.  I have since tried to redo a few of them and they will not pop up in my book marks list.  I am sure I have them backed up but why did this happen?  I don't want to go thru the work of putting them on there if its going to happen again.

Try this and see if the bookmarks come back.
Quit Safari completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the Safari app icon. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. Launch Safari and see if the bookmarks appear.
If that didn't work - try this next.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Why did it happen? That could be very difficult to say for sure. A fluke maybe. Not the answer that you want to hear, but like I said, it may be unexplainable.

  • Will bookmarks, highlights and notes disappear after "personal" editing?

I have to read many .epub classical books (almost all public domain) on iBook. Those books are not necessarily from iBookStore. I make highlights, notes, etc.
My situation is that the formats/styles and typos of those classical .epub make me extremely uncomfortable.
So I am planning to edit those errors whenever I find them on my Mac.
    Here is the workflow:
Read on iBook ——> highlights ——> see errors ——> export .epub to editing tools on Mac ——> edit ——> export to iBook ——> read
My only question is will all my bookmarks, highlights and notes disappear when I edit the epub?
Does anyone know where/how iBook records/store the highlights and bookmarks? In .plist or something else? Since If I know where all my annotations are, I couse easily preserve them when I am editing the epub.
This is a very very big problem of mine. Please help me.

Connect iPad with iTunes Mac and copy the book to Mac. Then import it into Sigil (an open-source epub editor) http://code.google.com/p/sigil/.
In Sigil, edit whatever part I need. Then export to iTunes again and sync with iPad connected.
After this, the book no longer belong to the iCloud, but treated as ordinary epub imported into iPad.

  • I can't find my bookmarks,history,and toolbars how do i fix this

I was forced to download firefox 4 because i was unable to get anywhere on the web until i did. Downloaded and printed and followed the steps. "chrome problems" I think they got resolved after deleting and reinstalling numerous times. Now i don't have my bookmarks, history, and toolbars. To open the program is difficult. I have to try shortcuts, the menu icon and the toolbar icon. How can I fix this dreadful mess?

I can create bookmarks folders and populate them. but when i quit safari the folders disappear?
    Please  help

    Hi Nick ...
Try deleting the cache and reset ...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
If that doesn't help, back to the menu bar, click Safari > Reset Safari. Select the top 5 boxes, click Reset.
If that didn't help, try troubleshooting the Safari .plist  (preferences)
    Quit Safari.
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
    Relaunch Safari.
If it's working ok now, move that .plist  file to the Trash. If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.
If you have trouble finding those files, open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar top of your screen, click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:   ~/Library/Preferences
    Click Go

  • I deleted my entire upper set of tabs - Bookmarks, Tools and more. I reinstalled Firefox 3 times and it's still gone.

  • I have two sets of bookmarks, one under "Bookmarks Toolbar" and one under "Bookmarjs Menu," and they are not totally similar. What's going on?

I use Bookmarks toolbar. When I want to save a site, the browser asks which folder to place it in; however I have two somewhat different sets of bookmarks that Firefox stores, and I'm never sure which set is the one being saved to. I have only one profile, checked that. Firefox 4.0 is an upgrade from 3.6.16.

    * The Bookmarks Toolbar folder stores the bookmarks that you see on the (View > Toolbars >) Bookmarks Toolbar.
    * The Bookmarks Menu folder stores bookmarks that you see in the Bookmarks menu and create via "Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page" or "Bookmark This Link" in the right click context menu.
    * The Unsorted Bookmarks folder stores that bookmarks that are created by clicking the star at the right end of the location bar.
Clicking the star in the location bar will bookmark the page in the "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder and the star turns yellow (blue on Mac) to show that.<br />
Bookmarks > "Bookmark This Page" (Ctrl+D or use Alt+B) will bookmark the page in the Bookmarks Menu folder (you need to confirm that).

  • Upgraded to Firefox 4.0 Can see and use all old bookmarks folders and bookmarks, but cannot see any of the old folders when I attempt to bookmark a new page- only see Bookmarks toolbar & Menu and unsorted bookmarks

Had several bookmarks folders under old Firefox. After upgrade to 4.0 all of these still work via bookmarks menu. Problem is, when I attempt to bookmark a new page and place it in one of my existing bookmarks folders with 4.0, the only folders that Firefox can see are the bookmarks toolbar, bookmarks menu, and unsorted bookmarks. How do I get Firefox to see the old folders so that I can continue to put bokmarked pages in them??

In the "Edit this Bookmark" window, use the 2nd drop-down button, that is to the right of the "Folder", to open a larger window that will allow more folder to appear. See the sloppy red arrow on the screenshot below.

  • How can I synchronize "bookmarks toolbar" and "bookmarks menu" ? They have different bookmarks now.

I just noticed that the firefox sidebar has an entry for "bookmarks toolbar" as well as "bookmarks menu".
somehow, there are differences between the bookmarks in the various subfolders though they are probably 90% identical. There are far too many to go through by sight (I have over a 1000 bookmarks).
    1. Is there an easy way to synchronize the two locations ?
    2. Or, if not a direct way, are there two separate folders for these two bookmarks locations in Windows so that I can synchronize the two folders with a folder synchronization application ?
I want to get all of my bookmars under "bookmarks menu" then empty out the bookmarks toolbar entirely. The resulting bookmarks will be uploaded to override the xmarks folder on their server.
    I hope you can help.

    @brjoon1021
:I did not mistake the Bookmarks menu on the toolbar. If you check the bookmarks menu on the toolbar (the equivalent button) and it is behind, look in the bookmarks sidebar and you will see the updated bookmarks. I doubt that destroying places.sqlite will fix the problem --but it will lose your history which would be far worse.
Look in the Bookmarks sidebar ("Ctrl+B"), you should see three main folders
    # Bookmarks Toolbar
    # Bookmarks Menu
    # Unsorted Bookmarks
If you import bookmarks, all of the bookmarks you import will be added to the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu, which you may very well see as duplicates, if what you imported them from something similar to what you already had. That is what "newsplexer" appears to be seeing.
Previously in Firefox 2 Bookmarks Toolbar was "Personal Bookmarks" and was a folder in the "Bookmarks" folder, importing then placed imported material at the bottom of the Bookmarks folder, what happens now is imported material is added to the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu. If you have a "Bookmarks" folder and a "Bookmarks Toolbar" as a subfolder at the '''bottom''' of the Bookmarks Menu it is not the same, as the actual "Bookmarks Toolbar". The actual Bookmarks Toolbar is also shown as a flyout menu at the top of the Bookmarks menu (I don't know if it suffers from the same lag as the Bookmarks menu, fixed by restarting Firefox).
I find the Bookmarks menu to be almost useless and very slow, and inaccurate after making extensive changes, and instead use the Bookmarks sidebar to examine bookmarks and bookmark structure, and the Bookmarks Library List to examine detail. And even adding scrollbars to the Bookmarks menu does not make it very useable to me.
Firefox 6 attempted to put the Unsorted Bookmarks back into the Bookmarks menu at the bottom not as a flyout as was done for the Bookmarks Toolbar, but as a link to the Bookmarks Library List with "Unsorted Bookmarks" selected.
