Bookmarks deleted in firefox after unistalling Aurora

I was uninstalling Aurora and then opened up fire fox and noticed that my layout has changed and my bookmarks were gone.

Sorry, if you selected the option to '''Remove my Aurora personal data and customizations''' when uninstalling Aurora, you deleted your Firefox bookmarks (and other personal data) along with your customizations.
I filed a Bug about that issue like 3 1/2 years ago when that option was added to the uninstaller, and the developers didn't take my advice about providing a stronger message. The developers didn't take into account that the uninstaller deletes '''all data for every damn version of Firefox / Beta / Aurora / Nightly''' that a user might have installed and doesn't tell the user about that "quirk". <br />Of course, unless the user specifically creates a Profile for each version of "Firefox" that they install, the same Profile will be used by every version the user might have installed. So when that option is selected, the user is deleting the only Profile they have, without realizing their mistake.

  • How do I get my bookmarks back into Firefox after reinstalling?

I had to reinstall Windows 7 and I backed up all the files (copied them to a different drive). I reinstalled Firefox but can't figure out how to reload the bookmarks. I tried copying them to the same location as before (User/Favorites) but they don't appear. I have several hundred bookmarks! Because I didn't remember to go into Firefox and "Backup" the bookmarks specifically, I'm screwed!?

  • Bookmarks don't work after upgrading to Firefox 5.0

My bookmarks don't work after upgrading to Firefox 5.o. Please help! The icons no longer show and instead there is a blank paper with the top right corner folded. I can't even bookmark new pages! I tried reinstalling the program and that didn't work. Please help!

Your bookmarks file may be corrupt. Navigate to /[UserName]/AppData/Local/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/[profile_name]. Either rename places.sqlite to places.sqlite.corrupt (or whatever) in case this isn't the problem, or delete places.sqlite. Start/Restart Firefox. The icons for sites that have a favicon should return after you visit each site.

  • I update firefox to 24.0 but my many bookmarks deleted. and now same bookmars cant no added to firefox.

A lot of bookmars deleted while firefox updating to 24.0

You can also check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

  • How do I go about deleting old versions of Firefox without messing up the latest version and access to Firefox after the deletes?

  • Can't delete old Firefox bookmarks in Safari

Trying to simply bookmark a page in Safari ; get a window that says I must keep or delete old firefox bookmarks but it won't. And I can't save any bookmarks, and can't even drag onto the bookmarks bar. What should I do?
    Thanks

Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the selected item to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Relaunch the application and test. If there's no change, quit again and put the item you moved back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, delete the item you moved. If possible, restore it from a backup that predates the problem.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Bookmark toolbar is blank after upgrading to firefox 4

I just upgraded to firefox 4. When I turned the bookmark toolbar on, it is blank. When I browse bookmarks via the firefox menu, there is a section near the top labeled "bookmarks toolbar." This has all of my bookmarks from the toolbar of my previous version, but they do not actually appear in the toolbar, its just dead space. That option is not there in the bookmarks button in the top right, but the rest of my bookmarks that were not on the toolbar are there.

    * Show your blank Bookmarks Toolbar.
    * Show the Menu Bar. This should show all your old toolbar bookmarks, yes?
    * Turn on "Customize".
    * In the Menu Bar, you will see now an icon followed by the text "Bookmarks Toolbar Items >>". Grab that and pull it down onto the blank Bookmarks Toolbar.
    * Hit "Done" in the "Customize Toolbar" window.
    * Send me a Scotch.

  • How do I clear my bookmarks from the Firefox browser on a public computer, having synced my account to see them during a browsing session?

Here's what I'm trying to achieve:
    1. I use Firefox on someone else's computer and sync my account to retrieve my bookmarks. (This works.)
    2. After finishing my browsing session, I sign out of my Firefox account, and my bookmarks are cleared from the Firefox browser. (This doesn't work.)
I have tried the following options:
    a) Open menu > Options > Sync > untick 'Bookmarks' > OK. This doesn't clear my bookmarks from the browser, not even if I close and open it again. They all show up.
    b) Open menu > Options > Sync > under Firefox Account click 'Disconnect' > OK. This doesn't clear my bookmarks either, only necessecitates me signing in to sync again.
I understand there used to be an option to 'unlink this device', which may clear all data including bookmarks, but I can't find it anywhere. I've also read an article suggesting clearing bookmarks etc can be achieved by deleting your Firefox profile from a device, but I fear this will delete global options such that I won't be able to access them on my home computer.
Surely there must be a way of siging in then out of the Firefox account on different computers, like you can with e-mail, without leaving all your bookmarks etc open for every other user to see afterwards? I'm transfering to Firefox from Chrome precisely because it doesn't have the capacity to do this (scarily), and to clear my bookmarks from a friends' browser, I had to uninstall Chrome on her computer!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Sync wasn't intended to be used in that manner. You would be better off carrying around a USB Flash Stick with Portable Firefox for use on "strange" PC's.
    2. You could open the "Library" {Ctrl + Shift + B} and highlight all those bookmarks and then delete them all at once. But that would also delete all the other bookmarks, and it isn't foolproof. All another person would need to do it to '''''restore''''' a bookmark backup file that has your bookmarks. Beyond that, a new Profile could be created and then the current Profile deleted; but that's "messing with" someone else's computer - an action that is worthy of terminating a friendship over, IMO.
And if that "public" computer was set up properly, Sync should have been disabled.

  • I can't open firefox after ATTEMPTING to update

I was prompted to do an automatic update or uversion update, not sure which. I did, as usual, and when I came back to the computer, it stated, as usual, that Firefox needed to restart, so I closed it, and it attempted to reopen the browswer. I could see part of my toolbars adn the words on my desktop background, but no actual browser window, with the yahoo screen or toolbar tabs, etc. I could blindly click, and assume I hit a button that said "Close" or "OK". I think it was telling me the software update failed. It closes, tries to open up again, I see the "well, this is embarassing," but still no browser screen. It repeatedly does this close/open until I just close it, because the actual window never opens. I started using IE and attempted to update firefox version from the mozilla website, but it won't happen. I followed forum topics related to the above issues, but they require making changes through the Firefox window, which now (the next day) will not open at all. I want to uninstall and reinstall, but I don't want to lose my bookmark profile in Firefox. I also attempted two failed tries at connecting to a livechat, which got me down to #1 then informed me it was unable to connect. Lastly, even using my IE window, when viewing forum topics, lines overlap and make it hard to read the postings. This is somewhat similar to the words showng up on m background all jumbled, but not in an actual browser window.

Do a clean reinstall and download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
You can initially skip the step to create a new profile, that may not necessary for this issue.

You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
Delete the sessionstore.js file and possible sessionstore-##.js files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox profile folder.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).
In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
*do not clear the Browsing History

This is on a Sony Vaio with windows 7. I3 processor

    Try a clean reinstall.
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 7.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version.
    * Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
    * Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
