Bookmarks gone

Hi, all My bookmarks in Safari is gone. Hon can I get Them back? Have tried to kill Safari but it didnt help. I have restarted the pad and that didnt help. I Think they disapered at the last program update ios6.

Try it one more time, but kill Safari and then follow that up with the reset.
If that doesn't work, you can try restoring from your backup. If you backup with regularity and if you backed up before you updated, like you should do any time that you update, the bookmarks should be in your backup.

  • Can no longer get safari to work on my ipad.. bookmarks gone..etc.

I can no longer get safari to work. bookmarks gone..google will bring up cnn.com but I can't scroll it or get ride of keyboard...

First, double tap on the home button and your recent apps will appear in an area across the bottom of the iPad. Find the Safari icon and hold down on it until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the icon to quit the app. Tap the Home button again to stop the apps from wiggling then tap anywhere on the screen to return to the home screen.
Now go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, clear cookies, clear cache. Then tap the home button again to return to the home screen.
Now restart the iPad. Hold down on the sleep button until the red slider appears then slide to shut down. To start up again, hold down on the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and then let go of the button.
After the iPad has fully restarted, try the Safari App again.

  • INSTALLED 3.1.1 - FORMER BOOKMARKS GONE!

Installed 3.1.1. Former bookmarks gone, replaced with what Apple apparently thinks we should use for bookmarks (Google maps, Yahoo, etc.) - maybe they get money for them.
    Fix was:
    Quit Safari.
    In User/Library/Safari/ change Bookmarks.plist to Bookmarks0.plist and LastSession.plist to Bookmarks.plist
Start Safari - no Bookmarks appear.
    Quit Safari.
    In User/Library/Safari/ change Bookmarks.plist to LastSession.plist and Bookmarks0.plist to Bookmarks.plist
Start Safari - old Bookmarks are back.

Yikes! I did this (apparently incorrectly) and now have lost all of my bookmarks. Anyway to retrieve? I'd rather lose my hair than my bookmarks.

  • Firefox is very slow, doesn't look right and all history and bookmarks gone

This happened just after I installed a proprietary software that I needed for work.
When I launched Firefox afterwards, I realized that all of my bookmarks and history was gone. The websites were loading very slow. My Firefox sync configuration settings were gone.
Also, when I search Google and put the cursor over the links that appear, the cursor usually turns to a hand symbol. Now it turns to a text cursor (like an I). The links are usually colored blue, but now they are colored black.
I'm using Chromium instead of Firefox now, and it appears to be working OK.
Tried disabling all the addons. Didn't work. Then uninstalled and re-installed Firefox. No luck. Uninstalled Firefox, deleted all folders containing "firefox" as part of the name in "/usr/lib", and re-installed Firefox. Didn't work.
Maybe the proprietary software that I installed altered the user permissions to some folder so Firefox is not able so access them? I don't know. If you have any ideas let me know.
I would really like to get Firefox working properly again, because I'm so used to it, and use addons like Zotero. Also, I have Windows in dual boot, and I have Firefox running there, and everything I do there was synced to Firefox in Ubuntu. But not anymore :(.
    Thanks.

  • Bookmarks gone both on mac and android devices! what the hell?!

    ''dupe of https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/933703 locking''
what can i do to get them back?! all of my bookmarks have gone away when i repaired the mac with the sync account after an unfortunate accident...
what the hell am i supposed to do now?! 3 years worth of bookmarks...gone... latest backup is 2 years from now. i never thought i'll need one again!

No worries.. Firefox automatically creates bookmark backup files every day you use it (up to 10 backups total), with newer backups replacing the older copies.
    <br/>
In Firefox go to the '''bookmarks''' window then click Import an backup then click '''Restore''' you should see a list of backups for your bookmarks.. Choose the most suitable item for you (The one with the date of before you lost your bookmarks) and click ok. It will replace the current content with the bookmarks in the item you chose

    Have a nice day

  • After Software update, settings went default. all safari bookmarks gone!

I did the typical software update like usual and when I restarted my computer, all of my settings, bookmarks, menu bar, and other little things were all put back to default.
the reason I'm mad is because I had hundreds of important sites/pages bookmarked on safari and now they're all gone.
any chance I can revert to previous settings for everything? It took me forever to tweak the computer to the way I like it.
Could anybody give me a reason on why it would do this? I've had my macbook since may 2006 and its never done this after an update.
I think the updates were quicktime, battery and possibly security. there were three.
    thanks again.

Well, I do encounter similar problems as your ever since the update. If you had backup your safari bookmarks, perhaps you can restore your previous setting back (hopefully you did). If you didnt, I know of this software call CopycatX which is far more better that Backup (as it claims), not only duplicates all of your harddrive, but it does recovery as well.

  • Drop down meniu to choose placement of bookmarks Gone

When I used to click bookmark this page a drop down menu would come up so that I could choose location of the bookmark.
It is gone! Also when I click the star in the browser window nothing happens either

You may have bookmarks that have long title. Firefox 4 shows the full text of the bookmark name, so if it doesn't fit with opening to the right side the Firefox will open to the left side. You can scroll through the list and make the bookmarks with a long name shorter.

  • Safari bookmarks gone after OS X update

I just did the OS X update to 10.4.5 a few days ago and just noticed all of my Safari bookmarks are now gone. Any magical way to retrieve them?
    Would appreciate any assistance.
    Dual 1.8 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Very strange your bookmark file would be missing after the Update. Did a new bookmark file replace the old one (one way of telling would be the prompt about writing over an existing file when you moved the old file over)?
You've demonstrated the importance of having an external backup. Certainly has saved me time/energy on a number of occasions. What Backup program are you using? I use SuperDuper.

  • Safari 4 Bookmarks gone

    Hello,
I was using safari 4 running at Vista.
Normally I use it as visitor and it was ok. Different bookmarks as Admin and as Visitor.
Yesterday I use Safari as Administrator no problems at all.
    Today I started as Visitor:
    1) Now l have to use the admin passwort to run Safari, I did not have to do this before.
    2) All Visitor bookmarks are gone. Safari has copyed the bookmarks from the Admin version.
I need the Visitor bookmarks back and I want to use my Admin bookmarks too.
Why do I have to give the Admin passwort when logged in as Visitor, I nerver had to do this before.
I updated to Safari 5 but still the same problem.
    Thanks for your feed back.
    BR from Germany

    Thanks b noir
I deleted safari because Vista was asking for re activating the product key because of changings in the system.
I guess installing safari 5 has change too many things.
I'm not sure if this is the solution,
I was using safari for years now.
    Thanks an BR

  • Bookmarks gone since installing Firefox 8!

Firefox automatically updated to 8 overnight and now my bookmarks are totally gone. I have searched the computer thoroughly and cannot find them anywhere. Any suggestions?

Hi, tried various steps as recommended on the web site/FAQs etc, but nothing. All my settings (such as log ins, saved passwords, etc) have also disappeared. However, I was able to recover my bookmarks, by pure luck I think.
I noticed during the process that the bookmarks were stored in something called a JSON file. (The only file that seemed to be saved was the empty one created by the newly installed Firefox 8, which was useless.) So I did a search for a JSON file on my computer and found the files in
C:\Users\Laurie\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\Profiles\izyq35gr.default\bookmarkbackups, and was able to reload them!
But the files were not backed up in any normal location, and installing Firefox 8 has caused a lot of problems, lost data and time.
    Cheers,
    Laurie

  • Harddrive crashed, are all the bookmarks gone?

so my mac crashed and the hardrive is a goner. just got a new harddrive installed, old one cannot be recovered. is there anyway of recovering the bookmarks from firefox used in old hd?

If you use(d) the Time Machine on your Mac then you can try to restore the places.sqlite file or a JSON backup (bookmarks-####-##-##.json) in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • When i restart/shut down settings get erased- calendar, bookmarks-gone

when i restart or shutdown, my settings get erased and go back to default- blue screen instead of the picture i had as my background; dock preferences are back to default; my bookmarks are gone. my calendar is gone. things my apple used to remember (like certain words I would type often, etc) are all gone. I went through and deleted some stuff but I didn't think I touched anything that had to do with the system. is my hard drive crashing?

Hi Miro, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.

The combo update for Intel-based Macs...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html
Repair Permissions after re-install, then reboot again.
If all the above do not resolve the problem, then it's time for an Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...

  • Sync error, bookmarks gone

    Hello,
Earlier today I went to re-organize my bookmarks folder. I moved some folders a little too rapidly and it ave me a sync error pop-up message. Next thing I realized was that my bookmarks are now gone.
Is there any way to recover them? My old bookmarks backup is almost a month back.
    Kind Regards,
    Y

Contact Apple. They may re-authorize download of apps you've purchased.
Next time, pay attention to the warning messages telling you you might lose everything instead of just ignoring them.
Honestly, they did NOT put the warnings there just to annoy you. They actually mean something.

  • Where have my bookmarks gone?

On my old homepage I had a dropdown box for all of the useful bookmarks I would like to keep, this has gone.  How can I get my bookmarks back?

    Hi scottishsheila,
Before the BTYahoo portals and services are closed down then I would export all your current bookmarks from the BTYahoo bookmarks website to your PC/Computer.
To do this you will need tp sign into http://bookmarks.yahoo.com with your BT email address and password.
Then Select TOOLS >> EXPORT >> and select what medium you want to export all your bookmarks as to your computer.
The image below may help explain:
I would do this before all the BTYahoo services are closed.
    Hope that helps,
    Cheers
