Bookmarks.html Renders Very Differently in FireFox 4

For years, I have been using and loving Firefox (including 4.0).
For years, I have also exported my bookmarks out of Firefox and use the resulting bookmarks.html file as my home page.
Now Firefox 4 renders the bookmarks.html file very differently from previous versions of Firefox and also differently from other browsers (eg, IE).
The indentations have disappeared when viewing bookmarks.html in Firefox 4. Unfortunately, it's not really easy to show you this inside this forum text box, but I will try.
Firefox 4 shows something like this:
'''Bookmarks Menu'''
'''General Interest'''
Markham Weather Forecast - Environment Canada
The Weather Network - Markham
The Weather Channel - Markham
AccuWeather.com - Canadian Forecast Center
... etc
Firefox 3.6, IE, and other browsers show something like this (note the indentations which greatly improve readability):
'''Bookmarks Menu'''
'''General Interest'''
Markham Weather Forecast - Environment Canada
The Weather Network - Markham
The Weather Channel - Markham
AccuWeather.com - Canadian Forecast Center
... etc
Is this a bug in Firefox 4?? I would really like to see bookmarks.html rendered with the indentations.
Am I missing something?
Thanks.

'''Cor-el''' - is there a way that can be added to the bookmarks.html file, instead of having to click on a bookmarklet each time the page is opened?

  • Preview in Safari is Very Different from Firefox

Hi, Im pretty new to this web design stuff but I have done a few websites already, but this is very frustrating.
I made a site layout in Illustrator, exported it as a tiff to Photoshop where i sliced and optimized it, and saved it for web and devices, with html and everything. Then, when I open it up in Dreamweaver, it looks fine. The problem is when i preview it in safari. All of the tables blocks are in the wrong place, and stretched and distorted. But, when i preview it in FireFox, it looks fine!
I have no idea whats going on here and its driving me crazy, so any help you have is greatly aprecieated!

    Tom and Andrew,
What's frustrating is not being able to see your code.
To get help here, we must see the code (not screenshots).  Ideally, put your files in a test folder, upload the folder to your server and give us the URL.  You can always remove it later. That way we can use our web developer toolbars to examine your code and test the page in different browsers.  That's the BEST way to get help here.
If you are unwilling to do that, you can simply copy and paste your CSS and HTML code into a reply.  Use the double blue arrows >> Syntax Highlighting > Plain.
    Code will look like this.
In the meantime, use the code validation tools below and fix any reported errors.  90% of browser rendering problems are caused by coding errors.

  • Moving Bookmarks toolbar to very top in Firefox 4

I want to move the bookmarks toolbar to the very top of the browser window.
For instance, when the Menu Toolbar is enabled, I would like this result:
    [http://i55.tinypic.com/309ua0m.jpg http://i55.tinypic.com/309ua0m.jpg]
When the Menu Toolbar is dis-abled, I would like this result:
    [http://i52.tinypic.com/k2obpj.jpg http://i52.tinypic.com/k2obpj.jpg]
I have not been able to find anything that accomplishes this. The current way is a waste of real estate.

    # Right click on your title bar and select Customize...
    # Your Bookmarks Toolbar should appear. Left click and drag Bookmarks Toolbar Items either to the left or to the right of your tabs bar.
    # Select Done
    *Notes:
You may have to adjust your icons such as New Tab as it may be be moved to a different spot if not placed properly. You can adjust them back to where they were by default or wherever you want them by going back to Customize...

  • Where do I find "bookmarks.html" on a MAC running 10.9.2?

Lost my bookmarks reloading FireFox. Had another MAC with all my bookmarks. How do I copy from one mac to another my bookmarks?

You can make Firefox create an automatic HTML backup (bookmarks.html) when you exit Firefox if you set the browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML pref to true on the about:config page.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML
That backup is created by default in the profile folder as bookmarks.html every time you close Firefox, but you can set the file name and path via the browser.bookmarks.file pref on the about:config page.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.bookmarks.file
The browser.bookmarks.file pref doesn't exist by default and you need to create a new String pref with the name browser.bookmarks.file and set the value to the full path of the backup bookmarks file.
Note: an HTML backup doesn't preserve tags and annotations, so you lose those if you need to import the HTML backup.

  • Firefox Bookmarks now in bookmarks.html format on iMac desktop

I have tried many different ways to get my old bookmarks into my iMac bookmarks and only managed to get them onto my desktop in a folder labeled "bookmarks.html" which opens as a webpage and is very wordy as it describes each bookmark.
Any suggestions as to how I can get them into my bookmarks? It has been over a month since I switched and I have started a new collection of bookmarks on the iMac.

  • How can I set the opening home page of FIrefox to display the current bookmarks. This used to work with bookmarks.html but I understand this file is no longer current.

I wish to display my current bookmarks as my opening home page in Firefox. I do not wish to use the Bookmarks sidebar instead. It used to work to open with bookmarks.html, which was and still is stored in my Firefox profile. However, I understand this file is no longer kept current but is only retained for legacy/compatibility reasons, and that the current bookmarks info is now stored in places.sqlite, etc. Is there a way with the new versions of Firefox to display as a full opening webpage the assuredly current bookmarks? Thank you

    Hi Jaime,
Are you saying, you are getting junk characters in the email attachment? Then pls check the following. Since you want to send Japanese fonts, please pass language 'J' in both  objpack-obj_langu = '3' & doc_chng-obj_langu  = '3' instead of '3' please replace it with 'J'.
Another thing which you may have to check is the SCOT device type. As I understand from my basis colleague, this may also affect your attachment fonts since the emails are sent through SCOT. Go to transaction SCOT-> Settings-> Device types for format conversion. Check whether wrong device type is defined for Japanese there. Hope this helps

  • I pulled the bookmarks html file off of my computer after it crashed, and am trying to get my old bookmarks into firefox. How does one do that?

When my computer crashed, we managed to recover a bunch of the files and information from it. One of the files we pulled was the bookmarks.html from the firefox folder. The computer was running on Vista when it crashed, and I now have it running 7 Professional. The file is recorded as a Chrome html file on the new computer, and when I click on it, it pulls up a basic html page within Chrome or firefox that has links to the firefox website (kind of like a webpage version of the bookmarks folder from the toolbar, but without any of the bookmark adding capabilities). I'd like to get my old bookmarks loaded into firefox. Help?

Firefox hasn't used the '''bookmarks.html''' file for storing bookmarks since the Firefox 2 versions, in 2008. Later versions use '''places.sqlite''' for bookmarks and history. What you have is the default file that Firefox uses on new installations and new Profiles, which has like 6 bookmarks.
If you still have access to that old hard drive, see this for help: <br />

  • Exported Safari Bookmarks (Safari bookmarks.html) arrive in MyDocuments but not in Firefox, how to get them into Firefox Bookmarks?

Five months ago, I imported my Firefox bookmarks into Safari. In that time, I have added many bookmarks to many of the bookmark folders in Safari. Now, I am trying to import back into Firefox all of the existing Safari bookmark folders including the added bookmarks. Tried exporting from Safari using File, Export Bookmarks, which does get them into MyDocuments\Safari bookmarks.html, but I am unable to get them into Firefox where they would enable me to uninstall Safari and free up some room on my hard drive. Maybe they are there in Firefox, but need to Find them?

Did you import the HTML file?
    * Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML : "From File"
Bookmarks that you import are usually appended at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder.<br />
If you do not see them there then try to use the search bar to see if they show up.<br />
If that also doesn't show them then it is likely that something went wrong with importing the bookmarks.<br />
Does that file display correctly if you open it via "File > Open File" in a Firefox tab?

  • Since this morning all text in firefox look slightly different - I think it still uses the same font, but renders it differently.

Since this morning all text in firefox looks slightly different - I think it still uses the same font, but renders it differently!? I would like to have it changed back to what it was. Any help is welcome.
    Some facts:
    - Happens only in Firefox (IE & Chrome still look the same)
    - Already did a reset to defaults
I'm using the latest version of Firefox
Screenshot can be found here: [http://www.ka-pow.net/media/images/firefoxissue.jpg link text]

Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems: <b>View/Beeld > Zoom > Reset</b> (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)

Press F10 or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the Menu Bar is hidden.
Use "Firefox > Options" instead of "Tools/Extra > Options" if the menu bar is hidden.

  • Firefox 13 Rendering Websites Differently Than FF11/12

CSS and Image rendering problems ONLY with Firefox 13...
I am a web developer, so browsers displaying code differently is not foreign. What is foreign to me, is having Firefox be the only browser that's rendering the code incorrectly. Please see two examples below:
    http://powellcareandrepair.web12.hubspot.com/
    http://www.facebook.com/sv.capella1
In Powell Care the flash button is off by one pixel causing a white line down the side of the button. This only occurs in FF13. The site renders correctly in ie9, Chrome, Safari, Firefox 11 and Firefox 12.
In the second example the Facebook page has a profile picture which lines up with the cover photo. Again this works correctly in ie9, Chrome, Safari, Firefox 11 and Firefox 12, but not Firefox 13.
My question is what's going on here? How does code that previously worked in the last two versions of Firefox (11+12) now all of the sudden not work in 13?
Any help would be appreciated. Is there something that I've coded wrong, with the exception of Facebook which will not change. This doesn't make sense to me.

You may get lucky and have a reply here you probably have a better chance on the mozillazine forum

It is probably a good idea to check the site code compliance using the W3C validator

    * interesting to note your link does not pass, neither does this forum thread link !
Firefox does try to keep up with the standards, so there may well be some differences between versions see for instance

    Where is the bookmarks stored?
I Install the Firefox once again since I upgrade my computer.
And I try to move the bookmarks from the old computer to the new one.
But I can't find anyone of them.
Is there any folder just like "favourite" to store the html file?
I really want to find out the bookmarks because actually i can't remember all the website that are important to me~ URGENT!!!~THANKS~

You can move file named places.sqlite from your old profile to the new one. It contains bookmarks and browsing history.
Here's a knowledge base article about it: [[Recovering important data from an old profile]]
If you don't care about saving your current bookmarks, you can skip creating new profile (Firefox does it by itself at first run anyway).
I'd might suggest you to install addon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2410/|Xmarks Bookmark and Password Sync]. It is a free web service which synchronizes bookmarks and (optionally) passwords with central server, and then to other computers, if you installed it on more. You may treat is as a backup too.

  • Why is there no "Show All Bookmarks" in my Bookmarks menu in Firefox 3.6.28--AS YOU SAID in how to export to Bookmarks.html??

I followed instructions on how to export my Firefox bookmarks to a Bookmarks.html,
BUT there is no Show All Bookmarks in my Bookmarks menu. I don't get it. I have Firefox 3.6.28,
which is the latest I can install on my PowerPC OS 10.4.11 Mac. Thank you.

In Firefox 3.6.x it is named "Organize Bookmarks"

  • Where can i find bookmarks.html file in firefox 10

where can i find bookmarks.html file in firefox 10, so that i can customize a new firefox setup.

cor-el, i tried this...it is working but it is add the new bookmarks to the default one (i want to override the bookmarks not to add them to the default).
And finally i solved the problem as the following:
    1- install the firefox.
2- change the bookmarks manually (delete the old one and add the links you want).
3- package your work into dmg file.
Yes as simple as that :D
Thank you all for your help.

  • Ie unable to open bookmarks saved even as html by version 4 of firefox

earlier version of firefox saved html bookmarks which could be opened in ie. new version saves, but the bookmarks in folders dont get imported

Since Firefox didn't seem to make any difference between local files and server files (as opposed to MSIE, which does) I saw the only chance to alter the unwanted behavior in changing the MIME type handling – but however, this didn't succeed even for server files, since the handling of internal MIME types like text/plain apparently can't be changed anyway ... which we do not have to understand :|
I already edited the values view_source.editor.external and view_source.editor.path ... unfortunately this only has effect on viewing source code (e.g. by Ctrl+U), but not on the loading of txt-files; neither locally (file:///) nor remote (http://).
If this could be influenced in the same way as source code viewing, that would be the solution.

  • Hello, I just reinstalled Firefox 8.0 and imported my bookmarks.html backup file but the bookmarks toolbar didnt changed with my old bookmarks. Is that a problem or I have to manually add each bookmark again?

dunno what details to tell you, everything important is written in the question. thanks.

You'll have two Bookmarks Toolbar folders now. One from the installation of Firefox (the main one) and a 2nd folder from importing a bookmarks.html file.
Locate the '''''Bookmarks Toolbar''''' folder that is under the '''Bookmarks Menu''' folder and copy or drag'n'drop those bookmarks into the '''Bookmarks Toolbar''' folder that is above the '''Bookmarks Menu''' folder.
