Bookmarks in iPad

I accidentally wiped all of the bookmarks in Safari on iPad. I tried to sync it on iTunes, in the hope that it would set the bookmarks back, but it didn't do it, even with a restart.
What can I do?

I called Apple Support - connected with an iPad guy (he had to connect with a MobileMe guy to verify).
He was able to fix my scenario.
This may not work for you.
For me, I noticed that it appear that my iPad had no bookmarks on initial inspection, but a closer look, revealed something interesting:
If I looked at the iPad's bookmarks, I saw that at the top of the list were the official Bookmark containers:
Bookmarks Bar
Bookmarks Menu
which were empty
There were also about 15 or so bookmarks then listed, looked like maybe some old bookmarks from Safari iPhone?
BUT - it also had a folder further down the list named "BookmarksBar" and "BookmarksMenu".
Notice no space.
These folders had all of my old bookmarks! Including one that I had entered the night before from my laptop, so they were definitely current.
AppleSupport had me go into MobileMe preferences on my laptop, Click the "Sync" tab, then press the "Advanced..." button.
Once there, select my laptop, choose the "Reset Sync Data..." option, Select "Bookmarks" from the Replace menu, make sure the arrows showed data going from MobileMe to Computer, and click the "Replace" button.
Voila!
By bookmarks came back into Safari on my laptop (although they had the funny folder structure above).
Then I saved a copy of my Bookmarks for backup.
Then I moved the bookmarks from "BookmarksBar" to ""Bookmarks Bar", and "BookmarksMenu" to "Bookmarks Menu", and deleted the old weird folders and quit Safari. I relaunched Safari to verify everything still looked good, then quit Safari again.
Then I launched Safari on my iPad, and the cloud synced my cleaned-up Bookmarks folder from my laptop to the iPad.
Since then, it has been working fine.

Lost my bookmarks on IPad 2. Any suggestions?

    Try a reset:
    1. Hold the Sleep and Home button down (together) for about 10 seconds
    2. Until you see the Apple logo (very important)

  • ICloud doesn't give me the option to merge safari bookmarks anymore. (iPad 2)

I had previously merged all of my bookmarks to my iPad using the iCloud. I decided I only wanted the bookmarks that were from my iMac, so I proceeded to manually delete all of the bookmarks from my iPad (sort of wanted to start with a clean slate). I didn't realize that when you turned the 'bookmarks' option off in the iCloud that you would be prompted to save/delete the bookmarks. Anyway, I hit 'delete' even though I had already got rid of them myself, but when I turned the option back on I wasn't given the option to merge anymore. However when I turn the option back to off, and only when I choose to delete, I get that little text on the screen "turning off bookmarks..." with the dotted circle that turns into a check mark. So my problem is that I don't have the option to merge anymore.
I started having this problem about 2 weeks ago and have done an update ever since. Everything on my iMac is up to date and my iPad2 is up to date as well (5.0.1). Anybody else having this same issue or have a resolution for this?

  • Retrieve backed up bookmarks on Ipad

    Hi!
So recently I backed up my ipad on the PC. Then restored original settings and the back up as well. I don't set my ipad to sync because I prefer to manually manage most of the stuff -- and use the back up function instead.
However, while I can retrieve most of the apps and podcasts, my ipad bookmarks are missing! Have done a lot of research on the net and most of them say that the ipad safari bookmarks should be automatically backed up when I back up the ipad in itunes. Has not happened for me though.
Am not worried about the contacts and calendars coz I just set those to sync with gmail. But can't do that with the ipad safari bookmarks.
Help, anyone know how I can get my bookmarks back?

That is the wrong profile folder and only stores the cache files.
You need the profile folder part in AppData\Roaming to get the main profile folder files.
    * Vista/Windows 7: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

  • Sync maps bookmark between iPad and iPhone

    Hello
I would like to sync maps bookmark between my iPad 2 and iPhone 4
Is there a way to do that ?

There is actually a way via contacts, but not a convenient one.
You have to do it one by one for your existing bookmarks in Maps.
You need a Mac to seperate those "bookmark contacts" from your regular contacts.
I use this method now instead of the Maps bookmarks.
    0. Make the necessary setting to sync your contacts with iCloud on your iOS devices (and your Mac if you want to use a "bookmark group")
    1. Open a bookmark in Maps (or search for something) then click on the i-icon
    2. Choose to put it in a new Contact (modify info as you  like)
    3. Add item for Notes with the text "bookmark"
This "bookmark contact" will now be synced through iCloud to your Mac and other iOS devices
I don't want my contacts to be cluttered with those "bookmark contacts", so I choose to create a seperate group
    4. In addressbook on the Mac do a search for "bookmark"
    5. select file --> New group from selection
    6. after you've added additional "bookmark contacts" in Maps on your iPhone or iPad you have to search and select them and then drag them to your "bookmark group" in address book on the Mac

  • How to get Safari bookmarks into iPad Air?

I have an iMac running the current version of OS X. Also have an iPad Air with IOS 8.1.3. How can I get my Safari bookmarks on the iMac over to this iPad? Because of Apple no longer allowing simple ID's, I had to create a new ID. Trying to use this same ID on my iMac, iPad, and iPhone did not work - I spent hours trying to sort that out and gave up. Anyway, how can I get my bookmarks copied over?
    Thanks, Jim

Oh, if I only knew the answer to that question. Somewhere, somehow, something got screwed up with my "new" Apple ID and the underlying email accounts. I spoke on the phone to an Apple support guy who finally gave up after 30 minutes. As it stands now, all three devices see the same email messages - very good thing. However contacts, notes and anything else on the iMac are not shared on th iPhone and iPad. The goofy thing is that those items DO share between the iPhone and the iPad, but anything I do on either of those devices is not sync'd over to the iMac. I've spent so much time messing with it that my head hurts. I wish I could simply clear out all three and start over, but the way things have worked out so far, I'd probably wind up with NOTHING working. Very, very annoying.

  • How to bookmark on iPad in safari

How do I permanently bookmark locations on the iPad within safari

Its odd that it is missing.
Try closing Safari, and resetting the iPad.
Double click the home button to bring up the Multitask view, then swipe up the screen shop for Safari.
Tap the home button again to exit multitask view.
Then Hold down The Sleep/Power and the home buttons at the same time until the Apple logo shows up.
This will reboot the iPad, no data should be lost. Hopefully that will bring back the button.

Set the "Location" pointer to "Favorites"

  • Transfer chrome bookmarks to iPad?

I use Google Chrome on my iMac and would like to transfer (sync) my bookmarks with Safari on my iPad.  Thanks.

I'm not sure that you can sync bookmarks with Google Chrome - you can with Safari, so a work-around would be to export them from Chrome, import them into Safari, and then chose that on the iPad's Info tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.

  • How do I sync Safari bookmarks onto iPad?

I may be missing something (new iPad and also new to Mobil me) but I cannot figure out how to sync my Safari bookmarks onto my iPad. This would include the Safari bar.
    Can anyone help?

I just figured out that I had not opened my Mobilme account on my laptop. I have now synced my Safari bookmarks to my iPad. Do not how to do this works without a Mobilme account but with one it works.

  • Retrieving bookmarks on iPad, iPhone

Because the RSS reader was removed from Mountain Lion I removed my RSS feed bookmarks from Safari on my iMac and the bookmarks on the iPad and iPhone disappeared too as they re-synched to the iMac. Realising I needed them for use with Vienna I retrieved them from my Time Machine backup but though they've been on the iMac for a few days they've never returned to the iPad or the iPhone. It seems strange that the bookmarks without the RSS links synced immediately but the bookmarks with the links back don't sync. How can I get them back?

  • Does Icloud sync for bookmarks between Ipad and mac pro with lion work for anyone?

My wife has an Ipad 2 and Macbook Pro tunning Lion. Bookmarks and docs do not sync on icloud. I see from the discussions many are having this problem. My question is does this work for anyone? Am wasting my time trying to make it work?

It works now, but it was a bit of a mess for a bit.
I turned off bookmark syncing on all devices but one, I exported my bookmarks to the desktop and deleted them from safari, thus deleting them from iCloud, I then added them back from the desktop. On my other devices I deleted all my bookmarks, turned bookmark syncing back on and chose to merge.

  • Safari crashes when I try opening the bookmark tab (iPad 3, iOS 5.1.1)

    Hello,
I was trying to sync my bookmarks from computer to iPad, and suddenly I couldn't open the bookmarks tab on my iPad any more. Safari just closes right away. I tried erasing all the history and rebooting, but it didn't work.
    Thanks for your help.

    Try the following:
    - Restore from backup
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPad.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order
