Bookmarks in Safari: do they ALL have to be synced?

I currently use Firefox as my primary browser and use (Obviously) Safari to sync bookmarks on my iPhone.
I'd sort of like to start using Safari as my primary browser (having problems with FF), but I don't want ALL of my gazillion bookmarks syncing on my iPhone.
Is it possible to create a second copy of Safari that can be used for bookmark syncing? (I'm guessing not).
Is there any way to only have some bookmarks synced with the iPhone? Wish they had little checkbox choices like they do for iPhoto, iTunes, etc...

I had the same issue - I wanted a smaller set of bookmarks on my phone than what I had on my computer. Here's what I did. I let iTunes sync all the gazillions of bookmarks the first time. Then I spent some time deleting the ones I didn't want from my iPhone. From then on, I've UNchecked the "sync bookmarks" option from iTunes so they each retain their separate lists. This means occasionally having to type in a URL to one or the other and bookmarking it manually, but better than having 344,786,394,935,454 bookmarks on my phone. (OK, that's an exaggeration, but you know what I mean.)

Having arranged some scanned pictures in an album in I-Photo how can I keep them in the order I have chosen when I move the album. They all have the scan date and not the taken date and move to new positions if I move them from one album to another.
Is there any way to re-number them in the order I have chosen so that they can then be sorted by number? The scans are all from pre-digital images that I wish to move to a photobook and I don't want to have to organise them twice!
    Thanks for any suggestions.

I was a bit short, Chris, sorry. It is limited, what can be posted, when typing on an iPad.
Now I am back on my Mac. I meant the following:  Batch Change the date for a large range of photos, that should have a date stepped in increments.
Select all Photos at once and use the command "Photos > Batch Change".
Then set the date for the first photo and select an increment, e.g. one minute.
Now all photos will get a new date assigned, incremented by one minute, in the sequence you have selected. So you will be able to sort them by date.  This way it will be unnecessary to change the titles or filenames.

Since the Maverick upgrade, I cannot view pictures in one of my files, they all have a small circle in front to them, How can I access them?

Looking at this data, it appears to all be quarentined.  I presume this is the problem.  Not sure how it happened, but what do I do next?

  • We have 150 iPads at our school. What effective ways have you found to update and download new apps to such a large number of iPads? Can I download different apps to different sub sets of our large group - or must they all have the same apps?

At our elementary school, our 150 iPads are separated into 5 subsets.  Can I download different apps to each subset, or must they all have the same apps since they all share the same Apple ID.  Some iPads are for grades k-2, and some are for 3-5.  I'd like to have the best apps for the different grade levels on the iPads.  Currently we have "iPad Carts" to house our  iPads in, and could use them to upload and update apps all at once, but don't utilize this function as we have a custom set up for the iPads that is erased each time we update through the carts.

You can configure different set of apps for different groups of ipads.
You need an mdm to do this.

    Hello sstefanik
Check out the articles below to troubleshoot your issues with getting a proper connection with Wi-FI. Try creating a new Network Location and join your network to see if you can get on that way.

The cases are aluminum not titanium. Do as you wish and that satisfies your aesthetic senses.

  • I just opened Foxfire and it automatically imported bookmarks from safari, but not all of them. How can I get the rest of them ?

I still have Safari on the computer with all my bookmarks. Not all of them came over to Firefox. How can I get them over. Also I had some in the toolbar that displayed over the window. Does this browser have that feature?

Export the bookmarks in Safari to an HTML file and import that file in Firefox.
    See:

  • I have a seemingly endless number of user profiles in my manager, when there should be the default, they all have some random hash and finish in "....hat" is this an issue?

Ran my profile manager to create a second user profile for work and noticed there were a ton of profiles in there. all with seemingly random hashes, they all finished in |....hat| not sure what to make of it.

    Marcelo,
I've been trying to load hundreds of pictures onto an SD card for digital photo frame and have the exact same problem. This also happens with a USB flash drive.
Found a solution - stuff the files - copy the stuffed file onto card and unstuff at destination. Give it a try - would love to know if it works for you as well.

  • HT4623 Since my update on my 5s I cannot receive messages from other iPhones. They all have to be sent by text. Why?

Since my 7.1 update I do not receive messages unless they are sent as text.

    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    Symptoms
Learn how to resolve issues with the Messages app on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You'll learn what you need to send messages using SMS, MMS, and iMessage as well as how to resolve issues with each method.
    Resolution
Before you start troubleshooting, learn the difference between SMS, MMS, and iMessage. The first step to resolving an issue with iMessage is to update your iOS software and your carrier settings to the latest versions. If iMessage still has an issue, follow the steps below for your issue.
If you can't activate iMessage with your phone number or Apple ID
See how to troubleshoot iMessage activation. If you're using a China Telecom or au (KDDI) iPhone, you can activate iMessage only on your home network. While traveling internationally, you can't activate iMessage.
If you can't send and receive iMessages
You will need these to send and receive iMessages:
An iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    iOS 5.0 or later
A cellular data connection or a Wi-Fi connection
A phone number or Apple ID registered with iMessage in Settings > Messages
To resolve issues with sending and receiving iMessages, follow these steps
Check iMessage system status for current service issues.
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and make sure that you registered iMessage with your phone number or Apple ID and that you selected iMessage for use. If the phone number or Apple ID isn't available for use, troubleshoot iMessage registration.
Open Safari and navigate to www.apple.com to verify data connectivity. If a data connection isn't available, troubleshoot cellular data or a Wi-Fi connection.
iMessage over cellular data might not be available while you're on a call. Only 3G and faster GSM networks support simultaneous data and voice calls. Learn which network your phone supports. If your network doesn't support simultaneous data and voice calls, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi on to use iMessage while you're on a call.
    Restart your device.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone.
If you still can't send or receive an iMessage, follow these steps
Make sure that the contact trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
Make sure that the contact you're trying to send a message to is registered with iMessage.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and recreate the contact in the Contacts app. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
Back up and restore your device as new.
If you aren't receiving iMessages across all iOS devices
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive on each iOS device and make sure that you signed in with your Apple ID. You must use the same Apple ID on each device.
Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You Can Be Reached By iMessage At and make sure that you selected each phone number and email address you want to use with iMessage.
If you linked a phone number to your Apple ID with iMessage and the phone number hasn't appeared, followthese steps.
Sign out of your Apple ID in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive and Settings > FaceTime on all devices.
If you're linking a phone number to an Apple ID, sign in to iMessage on your iPhone first. Then sign in to the rest of your device one by one with iMessage and FaceTime.
If your iMessages didn't transmit as SMS when iMessage was unavailable for use
Go to Settings > Messages > Send as SMS and turn on Send as SMS.
Select your phone number when Sending iMessages in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Start New Conversations From.
Make sure that you can send SMS with Settings > iMessage turned off.

  • Microphone input on camera / do they all have one?

Hi folks. My old Sony Digital 8 camcorder which I've had for 10 years or more is finally starting to breakdown. The tape transports have quit. I found a repacement for it on Ebay so that I can still use the 50+ Digital High8 tapes that I have around. The good thing is that the old camera still works well enough as a camera for iChat etc... My iMac does not have a built in camera so thats good.
But, it's time to get a new camcorder. I think that I would like to get a MiniDV type camera. One feature that I do like on the old Digital 8 camera is the "external mic input". I record my music performances and its great to have a mic up close to the band and the camera at the back of the room.
I've been trying to investigate MiniDv camcorders to see which ones have a external mic input and I just can't seem to get good info about this. I've looked at the Sony website, Amazon.com, Circut City.com etc..
Does anyone know which consumer MiniDv camerals (it does not have to be Sony) have the external mic input?
I also record audio in 16bit format. I assume all cameras can do that but I've only owned 1 camera so I'm not sure that's is a universal feature.
Does your camera have a mic input?
    Let me know.
    Thanks
    Morris

    Hi
Seems to be something the manufactor saves in on.
SONY DCR-HC96E - might be able to connect a mic on the intelligent "shoe"/socket
(like the one for a flash on a standard Camera - hot shoe ? ?)
SONY HDR-HC7E - This one should have one - but then the price are starting to sky rocketing.
Those should also have - but the price is even worse.
    Canon XL-1
    Canon XM-2
Cheque Panasonic - they have great 3-chips Cameras - may be one of them has mic in.
You should also have a phone-out so that You can monitor Your doings.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Can't create new bookmarks in safari. Lost all my existing book marks

Lost all bookmarks, cannot create new ones.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
    Quit Safari.
    Select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window should open with a file named "Bookmarks.plist" selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the folder open.
Relaunch Safari. It will open with the default set of bookmarks. Delete them all. Select
File ▹ Import from... (or Import Bookmarks...)
from the Safari menu bar. Import from the bookmarks file you moved to the Desktop. Arrange the bookmarks as you wish.
If Safari now performs normally, you can delete the old bookmarks file. Otherwise, quit Safari again and put back the file you moved, replacing the newer one with the same name. Close the Finder window and post your results.

  • Safari 4 images all have red cast until mouse over?

I've searched fairly extensively for anyone else having this same problem, and I note a number of possibly related threads on the colour/color management in Safari, but this problem seems to be slightly different. Perhaps someone will tell me this is a feature, but I can't find it listed. I'm finding that on many pages, such as www.news.com.au, images (of any size) have a distinct orange or red cast until I pass my mouse over them. A smaller but possibly related problem occurs with text and especially links, which are sometimes a garish bright blue until my mouse rolls over them.
To fix the images requires only a mouse over, and seems almost instantaneous, but this is tedious, and the pages look really ugly. Does this happen on all pages? No, for instance I did a search for "Steve Jobs" on Google images and the results all look fine. Do I have a MBP and a second monitor (which has been mentioned in the other threads)? Absolutely, a 24" Apple LCD.
If I understand the color management issues, images don't suddenly correct themselves when you move the mouse over them, which is why I thought I'd post this to see if there is a fix, or if anyone else is experiencing the same thing.
    Thanks for any replies.
    Ivan

And I'd like to report that although the red cast has gone away, it pales in comparison to the new problem, where images go monochrome/sepia, which I'm now experiencing. Moving the window over to the laptop screen and back to the second display seems to fix it, not exactly a great workaround. I hope someone fixes this bug soon, it's pretty nasty.
