Bookmarks Internet Explorer 8

Hi folks,
many users of our BI 7.0 web reports are using IE 8. Everthing seems to be working fine except setting bookmarks. Bookmarks are stored in the system, but there's no way accessing them easily. Before, the user was prompted to store the bookmark directly to his favourites.
SAP say support for IE8 will start in 2009/12/25. ( Re: BW3.5 --> BW701 upgrade -- Bookmark handling?? ). ...
Do you know if there's a workaround available?
Or some javascript-coding, that is catching the bookmark?
Thanks a lot!
Leo

  • I have followed instructions for importing favorites from Internet Explorer, but they do not show up in Bookmarks menu as shown in the support instructions.

I just downloaded Firefox 3.6 and followed the instructions for importing Favorites from Internet Explorer. Firefox said the import was successful, but the Favorites do not appear at the bottom of the Bookmarks menu (below "Mozilla Firefox") as shown in the Support instructions. Where can I access my Favorites?

You can usually find the imported IE Favorites in a folder ("From Internet Explorer") at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks).<br />
If you can't find them in the "From Internet Explorer" folder then try this:
    * Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html): File > Import and Export
    * Import the HTML file in Firefox: Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML: From File

  • I use "From Internet Explorer" to store my new bookmarks but they do not show up in my "Favorites" - where are they?

When I changed from IE7 to Firefox (and am very glad I did) I migrated my large list of Favorites (which was divided into sub-headings to make it easier to find items) to Firefox Bookmarks. As I continued to bookmark web sites, I added them to to the sub-headings in "From Internet Explorer" from which I can readily retrieve them. However, when I wanted to copy them to my laptop, I discovered that the only "Favorites" I can find on my PC are the old IE7 Favorites - none of the additions made within Firefox were there. Similarly, the Bookmarks Toolbar which I now use is different from the Favorites Toolbar still accessible from my Windows Explorer.
Where is this information stored in Firefox so I can copy it?
My OS is Wndows 7 Professional.

    Moving bookmarks to another computer
    '''Using Firefox Sync'''
You can use Firefox Sync to move your bookmarks from one computer to another.
Note: Firefox Sync continuously updates itself as you change bookmarks, so it does not provide a true backup service, nor is it intended to be used as one.
Firefox Sync is the best way to keep your bookmarks (and other profile data) synchronized between all of the computers you use. See Firefox Sync - Take your bookmarks, tabs and personal information with you for more information and Share bookmarks, tabs and more with your other computers for instructions on setting it up.
    Using a bookmark backup file
'''You can also use a bookmark backup file''' from one computer and restore it on another computer. This is useful if you can't Sync the two computers, for some reason.
The bookmark backup file can either be a manual backup (see above) or one of the automatic dated backups located inside the Firefox profile folder bookmarkbackups folder. Place the bookmark backup file on your transfer media (e.g. a Flash drive) and copy it to the desktop (or any location) of the other computer. You can then restore the backup from the Firefox Library window, using the Choose File... option, as described in the Restoring from backups section above.

  • How do I stop Firefox from updating Internet Explorer with my bookmarks?

I upgraded Mozilla Firefox recently and must have agreed to merge bookmarks. All my bookmarks now appear in Internet Explorer also. Any changes affect explorer. I can't figure out how to stop. I can disable on the explorer end but not Firefox.

I do not fully understand what you are trying to explain.
Firefox certainly does not ordinarily update or change your IE favourites.
(You are able to export Firefox bookmarks in a suitable {HTML} format though)
Firefox bookmarks are not the same as IE's favourites. You are able to import the HTML favourites from IE. Firefox then converts these to the required Firefox formats and keeps the bookmarks to itself.
Unless possibly you have some utility that exports the Firefox bookmarks and over writes the IE files ?
Or maybe you are just reading HTML files and folders with Firefox instead of using Firefox bookmarks.
Have a quick read of these articles and post bask with more information about what is happening.

  • How can I use same bookmarks file for both Firefox & Internet Explorer?

There are lots of questions and answers about how to import/export bookmarks/favorites to/from Internet Explorer, but they all seem to assume that afterward you're only going to use the one browser.
But like many other people, although I prefer to use Firefox, there are times I need to use IE for certain sites, or to see how a page I'm creating will display to IE users. This means that I regularly edit bookmarks/favorites in both browsers, and can't possibly keep up with importing/exporting back and forth. What I need to do is use the same set of bookmarks with both browsers, so that the next time I bookmark a page in IE it will be available when I re-open Firefox and vice versa.
I had things configured that way on my last computer, and it worked beautifully for years. Of course, it's long enough ago that I forgot how I did it, and a perfect memory wouldn't help anyway, since it was under Windows XP, and older versions of both browsers. Now I'm in the throes of learning Windows 7 on a new machine and haven't yet figured out how it thinks or wants me to think, so until I get my feet under me I'll need some pretty specific instructions. (Explanation would also be appreciated, as I do like to know the whys of things and it will help me become more proficient eventually; but at this moment my mental bandwidth is pretty low and my priority is just to get some basic things working.)

    Hi fastauntie,
This add-on may be able to help: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/plainoldfavorites PlainOldFavorites]. It allows you to access your Internet Explorer favourites from within firefox. There are some instructions here: [http://www.howtogeek.com/59050/from-the-tips-box-simple-ie-to-firefox-syncing-easy-windows-toolbars-and-identifying-usb-cables/]
Also you might be interested in [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ie-tab-2-ff-36 IE Tab v2]. It will allow you to use the Internet Explorer rendering engine from within firefox. It is useful if you want to see how a page would display in IE without leaving Firefox.
    I hope that helps,

I have problems with seeing my bookmarks, file, view, edit...buttons. I tried other shortcuts. I noticed that all of my bookmarks are located in the Internet Explorer browsers, how can I restore setting back to Mozilla Firefox?

Is the menu bar missing (the one containing File, View, Edit etc)? If it is, the following link shows how to restore it - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Menu+bar+is+missing

  • How can I get Firefox to take me back to the last Bookmark folder I was in like Internet Explorer instead of going back to the beginning each time??

When i find a website using bookmarks in Firefox and then I want to look at another site in that same folder, especially in a subfolder, Firefox takes me back to the beginning of the bookmarks menu. With Internet Explorer, it takes me back to the same folder or subfolder I was in. For example, if I was wanting to search newspapers, especially if they are in subfolders, I want to stay in that same place. Firefox loses that place, unlike Internet Explorer, and takes me back to the beginning each time. Sometimes I have several layers of subfolders and it takes time to find that place again each time.

A possibility is to open the Bookmarks Sidebar.
Click the list icon next to the star on the Navigation Toolbar and click "View Bookmarks Sidebar" (Ctrl+B).

  • How do I return functionality of my bookmarks menu before Firefox update 23.0.1? I don't LIKE internet explorer, now my firefox is acting like IE; gee thanks.

How can I restore the functionality of the Bookmarks shortcut. I DO NOT LIKE internet explorer, it is cumbersome and slow. How can I modify the bookmarks shortcut to act like a menu again? I do not like the bookmarks and history pop-out... Firefox was above the bar, now I have 2 copies of internet explorer on my computer, one with an icon that looks like an E and one that looks like my old firefox browser.... This was a result of the update 23.0.1 this morning, it was perfect when I went to bed last night.... Maybe I should use Chrome?

does it work as expected when you launch firefox in safe mode once (to rule out the interfering of any addons)?

  • With firefox, how do I bookmark a new page into folder contained in From Internet Explorer?

i imported IE favorites into firefox bookmarks. my IE favorites contained many folders with different categoties of information......eg., folders for car repair, investments, etc. now that i am using firefox, how do i
bookmark a new page into one of the existing IE favorite folders? I have tried every option I could think of using the options shown when i click bookmark this page.......i am getting as far as FROM INTERNET EXPLORER, but i can't seem to find a way to reach one of the sub-folders within the FROM INTERNET EXPLORER folder? also, nothing is happening when i click on the star symbol to the right of the address space?

thanks for the suggestion....sounds good to Old Goofy! Before your response was received, I continued to fiddle with the popup box that appears when you click the "bookmark this page". in my fiddling, i noticed that at least once, a litlle small solid triangle appeared just before From IE....I clicked on that little triangle and voila, there were all my sub-folders under the main IE folder!!! Nowhere in all the old posted Firefox support had I seen I clear illustration of doing this......probably I missed it or I'm just a dumbie?
Meanwhile, if anyone is having all kinds of strange problems with computer, and no browsers including IE, with the exception of Firefox, are working properly, if you have Norton Security on your computer and it al;so is not working properly, UNINSTALL NORTON!!!!!!!!!!! That was my situation, to the extent HP free support was going to help me wipe the drive and try to put the computer back "as new", but using a different security program!!!!!

  • I have 1500 bookmarks that were transferred from Internet Explorer as favorites but they are now uncatagorised and unlabeled - how do I delete some of them or put them into groups?

I was using AOL 9 with Internet Explorer and saved 15oo Youtubes as "favorites". I changed to Firefox and upgraded to AOL 10 - my favorites now appear as bookmarks but they aren't arranged in groups (guitar, drums, blues, country, lessons...etc.) and there aren't names to identify them. Do I have to delete all of them and start afresh and if si - how do I delete some of them?

    * Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html): File > Import and Export

  • Can I make my bookmarks appear in a column on the side of Firefox every time I open Firefox, (like Internet Explorer does)?

Look at Internet Explorer and how you can "pin" the bookmarks toolbar to the side for easy access. I am a new user of Firefox.

'''{ Ctrl + b }''' to open the Bookmarks Sidebar. Along long as you don't close it, the Bookmarks Sidebar should stay open and be open when you start Firefox.

  • I switched from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox and my bookmarks don't appear to have been transferred. The FAQ's say it should be in a folder marked Internet Explorer in the "Bookmarks Menu", but it's not there.

Did you see a "Bookmark" tab in your Menu Bar? All of your IE Favorites should be there if you pull it down.
FYI, It's called Bookmarks in Firefox.

  • Empty "Links__1" and "Links__2" folders in Safari after syncing my Internet Explorer Bookmarks with iTunes.

I use Firefox and Internet Explorer on my desktop and sync the bookmarks between them using XMarks.  I then sync my Internet Eplorer bookmarks to my iPad using iTunes.  On top of all of my bookmarks, which sync fine, I have 2 extra empty folders called "Links__1" and "Links__2".  I can delete them but they eventually reappear after syncing (though not always on the next sync).
Any ideas on what is causing this and how to prevent this would be appreciated.

    Solved.
    I think.
I had 2 hidden "Favorites Bar" folders in my Favorites folder.  Deleted them and the pronlem seems to have gone away.
    Fingers crossed.

  • I want to import bookmarks from internet explorer, but the import link is ghosted out and won't give me access. How do I access the import function?

I want to import bookmarks from Internet Explorer 8, but the import link under file in Firefox is ghosted out and doesn't allow me access. How can I access the Firefox import function?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • How do I get Firefox to import ALL my bookmarks from Internet Explorer?

I've recently installed Firefox on my WXP computer, to replace IE. During installation, Firefox automatically put up a dialog offering to import all my bookmarks (i.e. Favourites) from IE, and I accepted. The resulting page confirmed that my bookmarks had been imported. However, on looking at the actual list of bookmarks "Imported from IE", I saw that the main Favourite headings had been imported in alphabetical order - which is fine - but that the import had stopped at the letter S. That meant that some important main Favourite headings (e.g. "Travel") hadn't been imported.
I then went to your tutorial pages and followed the instructions for "Importing Personal Data from Other Browsers", asking for just bookmarks to be imported from IE. What happened was that once again, FF imported only the Favourite titles up to initial S. (And now, furthermore, all the imported ones were duplicates of the ones already imported at set-up). Would you tell me, please, what I need to do to get the complete list of Favourites imported from IE?
    Thanks a lot.
    Ian Stewart
