Bookmarks lost on Safari somewhere in Yosemite

After installing Yosemite all my bookmarks in Safari have disappeared.  Firefox and Chrome are still all there.  Is there an easy way to find or reinstall them? I did do a time machine backup before installing Yosemite.

Looking at the system log messages, I solved my own problem.
Seeing Dropbox in the list a few times led me to conclude Dropbox was the problem.  When I pause synching on Dropbox, everything works perfectly.

  • Why can't bookmarks load in Safari? Is Yosemite the problem?

Recently, when I click on a bookmark, Safari begins to load but then stops. Why? I now use Google Chrome. What's going on?

  • I have lost my Safari app and all the bookmarks that go with it. I have tried to download my back-up on external drive but cannot access it. Tried a start with C key held down but still no access to the back-up app.

I have lost my Safari app and all the bookmarks that go with it. I have tried to download my back-up on external drive but cannot access it. Tried a start with C key held down but still no access to the back up app.
Have used Superduper app. to back up and checked back-up occasionally to see if all files present  and appeared OK.
I had previously started machine using original CD #1 to try and replace Eudora which was acting up. Did not knowingly touch Safari.
    Running iMAC System 10.4.11
How can I successfully download from the Maxtor back-up?
    Ivan

    Further info.
I checked the content of my other back-up and found the bookmark Bookmarks.plist in the library under Safari
Dumped the existing copy in the computer and drag-dropped the back up. All bookmarks restored.
Solved the Stickies problem by using Spotlight  to find file "stickiesdatabase" and did a drag- drop to replace file. All data restored.
Re Ical data loss. Used Spotlight to find iCal document in  Library - Preferences where I found com.apple.iCal.plist in folder.
Got ready to make change but did not immediately remove file. When I returned to Preferences folder to grab above document,
the readable descriptors had been changed to code consisting of some upper case letters and/or single symbols!
So now I cannot tell which is the symbol  iCal.plist
Thanks for leading me so far, but how do I find that plist for my calendar?

  • HELP...Sync to PC iTunes Lost all Safari Bookmarks

I just sync my iPad with iTunes 10.0.1.22 using my Lenovo Thinkpad laptop which is running Microsoft Vista and somehow lost all my safari bookmarks on my iPad. What I think cause the problem was I checked to sync my Internet Explorer bookmarks which somehow completely erased my bookmarks on the iPad.
How can I recover these bookmarks which were over 500!!!. I sync to my PC on a daily basis and just backed up my entire laptop so if I can find the file which contains the safari bookmarks, hopefully I can just replace that file on my PC and be back in business. Any hints or suggestions would be really appreciated....

    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\Safari\Bookmarks.plist
Launch Safari on your PC. Drag the Bookmarks.plist file into your Safari browser window.
If that doesn't work, post in the Safari for Windows forum and ask how to import that Bookmarks.plist file back into Safari. http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1188

  • Safari Bookmarks Lost via Drag and Drop to Finder

All of my most important bookmarks vanished without a trace after I dragged and dropped their folder from the "Show All Bookmarks" screen in Safari 4.0.3 to a Shared Network Drive in the Finder sidebar. The Shared Network Drive was not connected at the time (I hadn't realized), but I received no error message that the bookmarks could not be copied to the destination--the folder and its contents were simply gone. I've scoured all drives for the bookmark files with no luck, and I confirmed that dragging other files (not bookmarks) to the disconnected Shared Network Drive gives an error message and no change to file locations.
Admittedly, this particular situation is somewhat rare, but it seems like a kind of shoddy black hole in the software: no alerts, no trash bin, no bookmark files to be found.
Obviously this is a perfect example of why one should backup bookmarks via Time Machine, MobileMe, etc.--but I really just want to understand the problem, and to see it resolved if necessary. Any ideas? Similar experiences?
    Thanks for reading!

Thanks very much for your reply, Carolyn.
I tried a Spotlight search as you suggested, but found no file called "Safari Bookmarks.html," and nothing with a similar name. Would that be some kind of master log of my Safari bookmarks?
I'm looking everywhere for an alternate record of those web addresses (router, cache, cookies, Google), but unfortunately I empty my Safari history regularly and nothing else has panned out so far.

  • Safari bookmarks lost when synchronizing

I was editing my bookmarks folders in Safari (the latest version), and as i was moving a folder around, I was told I couldnt edit bookmarks at the moment because they were being synchronized.  Thats not a big deal, but then, the folder I was dragging from one place to the other, disappeared!  Its not in its original location, its not in the new location and its simply not anywhere.  I did a search for it but its gone!
What can I do?  I had a lot of bookmars in there.

I tried this without success.  I noticed that once the folder disappeared (the one I was dragging over to place within another folder while rearranging bookmarks), it also disappeared on my iOS devices as well.  This happened very quickly before I could even get any of them shut down or disconnected from the network.
It seems that this would most certainly be classified as a BUG in Safari and/or it's interaction with iCloud.  If I move a folder and the synchronization process is running to synchronize a previous "edit" or "move", then the folder being moved should revert back to it's original location instead of simply disappearing.  Is this an issue with Safari, iCloud, the supporting framework, or Lion OS?
Thankfully I have a TimeMachine backup from last Friday that I will be able to use for restoring the bookmarks.plist file.  But for future reference, is there a way -other than turning off iCloud sync for bookmarks- to extend the timeframe allowing for multiple bookmark edits prior to synchronization, or maybe force synchronization to wait until the bookmarks list is closed?
    Thanks,
    Treffin

  • I lost my safari on my I pad how could I install it back

I lost my safari on my I pad how could I install it back

You can't delete it or lose it .You can't delete or re install the pre installed iPad apps. Try swiping from screen to screen to find it. Look in all of your folders as well. You can also do a spotlight search. Swipe to the right from your home screen to bring up the search feature. Type Safari into the text field and search. This will show you that it is on your iPad somewhere.
Do you have restrictions enabled? That will hide the app icon as well. Go to Settings>General>Restrictions and see if you have "on" selected. If so, turn it off and look again.
You can also restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. Then hold down on the sleep button until the Apple logo appears to start up again. Look for Safari again.

  • We have a new iPad Mini.  I cannot save a new Bookmark.  In Safari, I go to "Share" and select "Add a Bookmark" yet when I click on the Bookmarks icon, my saved Bookmark is not there.  Am I doing something wrong?

We have a new iPad Mini, and I'm having inconsistent results using Bookmarks in the Safari icon.
For a long time, on the iPad, I could only see five items under the Bookmark icons and the Bookmarks Bar was empty.
Occasionally, in Safari, the iPad would pick up and display all of the Bookmarks from the Safari browser on my iMac.
Other times, there are only a bare few Bookmarks available on the iPad, the Bookmarks Bar goes away and I cannot save a new Bookmark.  It looks like I can save one, but I cannot find it after allegedly saving.
Then, all of the Bookmarks will come back and I can save a new Bookmark again. We can't figure out why all of the Bookmarks will show and then they won't.
I want to think this involves iCloud some way, but for right now, I'm stumped.  Perhaps we're just too inexperienced and haven't come around the learning curve yet.
    Thanks for any help.
    Steve

No, I see the three areas at the bottom of the Bookmark area that you refer to, but that also highlights an issue.  When I want to save a story to my Reading List and click on Share then "Add to Reading List" then go back to look at what is stored in the Reading List, my recently-saved item is not there.
I looked thru the History tab and the Reading List tab and have been in the Bookmark tab.  But even when I Save a Bookmark, that newly-saved Bookmark does not show up in the Bookmark area.
But then again, the next day (and actually just in the last half-hour) all of the functionality came back.  When I look at the Bookmarks, suddenly, again, all of the Bookmarks that are on my Safari browser on my iMac are now there, and I can now Save a Bookmark.
It keeps coming in and out and that is what is driving me a little nuts.
    Thanks.

  • I lost my safari and mail icons.  How can I get them back in the screen?

I lost my safari and mail icons on the ipad screen.  How can I get them back or where can I find them?

Have you checked all your homescreens and app folders for them, and do they show on the iPad's spotlight search screen (swipe your first homescreen to the right and type in Safari or Mail) ?
Safari can be hidden via Settings > General > Restrictions > Safari being 'off', so you could check that as well.
If you still can't find then try a reset and see if you can find them after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot
There is also Settings > General > Reset > Reset Home Screen Layout which will reset the layout of your apps and might make it easier to find them.

If you can open Safari go to the top of your screen, click Safari / Preferences then select the General stab. You can type in the web address for your Home page there.

When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Safari 4 will not import bookmarks saved with Safari 3.2.3!

Safari 4.0 (Build 530.17) for Windows DOES NOT correctly import bookmarks saved with Safari 3.2.3 for Windows!! There are no links!! But it does import the folders.
For example if I open the bookmarks in Safari, it looks like an HTML file. It says this:
    Games
    http://www.romnation.net/srv/emulators/mame.html
    http://www.romnation.net/srv/download/rom/25758/mame/Tron-set-1.html
    and many more folder categories....
But when I go to the File Menu and choose "Import bookmarks..." it will only import the Folder names, such as "Games" but NOT the web links.
    It does not import these:
    http://www.romnation.net/srv/emulators/mame.html
    http://www.romnation.net/srv/download/rom/25758/mame/Tron-set-1.html

    its fixed now
