Bookmarks opens the list of bookmarks, but Organize Bookmarks opens the Library, but it is blank.

My Bookmarks are present, but when "Organize Bookmarks" is opened, it is blank. No problem with Restoring or Saving Bookmarks.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • No bookmarks show in the Library (Show All Bookmarks" but they are listed under Bookmarks on the right side of the screen.

All bookmarks are listed in the Bookmark menu (right side of Firefox 19). When I select "Show All Bookmarks", the library comes up, but there are no folders or bookmakrs in the left pane. Entering anything in the search window turns up nothing.
I already uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, same problem. I also use XMarks to sync my bookmarks, but I've never had a problem with that.

By default the bookmark folders are
*Bookmarks Toolbar - these will show on the bookmarks toolbar when you display it
    *Bookmarks Menu
    *Unsorted Bookmarks
You may create further subfolders within any of those, and add separators. Bookmarks may be dragged and dropped or coped between folders. The arrowhead alongside the folder name in the sidebar, menu or library allows you to expand the folder to see the content.

  • Double click Bookmarks button to open the Library window directly ("Show All Bookmarks" function)

I have a number of folders in bookmarks, and I edit it frequently by clicking "Show All Bookmarks" and opening a Library.
Previously, after clicking Bookmarks button, "Show All Bookmarks" appeared on top of the list, and now it's at the bottom.
Please, add double click function on Bookmarks button so that it opens Library window directly.

  • How can I get unsorted bookmarks on the "Bookmarks" menu so I do not have to open the "Library" It is a pain in the ***.

When I click on Bookmarks, folders I created are shown but I can not move the Unsorted Bookmarks to that menu. I have to open the Library to see it. I have copied it to a folder but it does not update it when a new bookmark is created. I know I can open the sidebar to see it but I do not want to loose the space on my browser window. Is there a way to do it. I have used FireFox for years and the is only time I have had to ask for help.

This add-on will add the Unsorted Bookmarks folder to the Bookmarks menu. <br />

  • How can I sort bookmarks within a folder by date such that this is apllied not only in the library but also on the toolbar?

    Hello,
I have several folders on my firefox toolbar which I use to sort new bookmarks by topic. If I add a new bookmark to a folder it is alwas placed at the bottom (below existing bookmarks) which is somewhat annoying with a increasing number of bookmarks. I would like to have the bookmarks recently added at the top of the folder (above existing bookmarks).
It's no problem to sort them this way within the library. But back at the toolbar everthing remains the same. The only option that seems to work here ist 'sort by name'.
Is there any way to sort the bookmarks by 'date added' such that new bookmarks are placed on top and this is applied also outside the library?
I hope you get my problem!
    Thanks!

I do not think there is a way to do that without add-ons
There are a couple of workarounds I am aware of
    * Add the bookmarks manually in the bookmarks library and choose the position. That is using Show all bookmarks -> open required folder -> select a position and right click -> add new bookmark <br />Rather a slow and clumsy process
    * Sort a folder and copy it. If you sort the folder contents then copy and paste them they remain in that order when pasted.
There are add-ons but I have not tried them. For example
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/simplesort-bookmarks/
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/auto-sort-bookmarks/
There will be others available and take note of the advice to backup bookmarks manaully.

  • What is the library section in the bookmarks toolbar used for now. I used to be able to organize my bookmarks here now the left pane in library under organize bookmarks is always empty.

Used to be able to organize bookmarks in the library section (left pane) but since upgrade this pane is always empty even if i try to add a folder or bookmark. Is there another way to organize without having to do this in the library section.

  • My bookmark tab will briefly show my bookmark list but then goes blank. Retry and get same issue.

i see the outline of the bookmark dropdown but it is blank inside. when the dropdown worked yesterday it left the listing of bookmarks at the bottom of the browser page and i could not get rid of them unless I closed the browser

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Display your bookmarks (button) / Can the Library open to the left of FF?

    I click on:
Display your bookmarks (button) / Unsorted Bookmarks
. . . and the Library opens to the *right* of the browser.
This is fine, but I try to consistently work from left to right, and the pattern I have is to click on something in the library at left, and it opens in the browser at right.
I have 7+ Taskbar Tweaker installed, and I can drag the Library to the left of FF . . . or even all the way to the left of any other programs seen in the Taskbar, or in between . . . but it would be good if I could just get it to open up to the left of the FF, that could save me some clicks.
Is there any way to do this? A default setting somewhere?
Could it be set to open up all the way to the left of any other programs in the Taskbar? Or one or two to the left, depending if something is there or not?

Sidebar . . . I don't want to use that, I like how the Library lets you see everything very easily.
The library is supposed to remember the position? 7+ Taskbar Tweaker might be messing that up - but I think it was acting this way before I installed it. In fact, I'm pretty sure it was, because I was so happy that I could move the Library to the left of FF.
Would be good if you could specify to the left or right of the browser . . . there's a similar in Windows, how downloaded files are always saved to the top left, and fill down, and to the right. Would be good if you could specify that to something else also, but, that fits my pattern.

  • After a crash, I reinstalled FF, but it looks different. Bookmarks button will not stay on the screen. Thus, I cannot get to the Library, or Restore. I need to restore Bookmarks from external hard drive. I found backups but how does Firefox find them?

I have found 2 versions of my old bookmarks in my backed up data. One is under Owner/AppData/Local.../bookmarkbackup/bookmarks-2011-10-13 , etc. The other is under Firefox Profile/Cache/E7C5F7B4d01. I don't find these places in the new Firefox program just installed.

Have you tried to drag the folder that contains your music files. Locate the folder, while iTunes is open, drag the folder to the Library icon, this may help.

I just downloaded iPhoto 9.5 to replace my old ver. 7.x.  Downloaded the library upgraded but have no idea where it installed as it is not listed in Applications.  Opened iPhoto added my Library (12.5 GB) but iPhoto shows no pictures. In fact, iPhoto indicates that I have zero photos in the library while at the same time indicating the file size as 12.5 GB.

If your old iPhoto version was iPhoto 7, you need to run the iPhoto Library upgrader:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1523
It will install itself in the Utilities folder in your Applications folder.
Run it, and after that, you should be able to open your iPhoto Library with iPhoto '11.

  • Bookmarks go directory but not the library, can't sort

I imported bookmarks from HTML file into directory. How do I get them into the library to sort? Jim

I'm not sure what you mean by importing into the directory...
In order to import the HTML file into Firefox, open the Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+b) and use the toolbar button "Import and Backup" to get to the Import feature. (If you are showing only icons and not icons and text, it's the star with the little green arrows on the front.) This article has the steps: [[Import Bookmarks from a HTML file]].
After importing, the bookmarks may be in a folder named Imported Bookmarks on your Bookmarks Menu or under Unsorted Bookmarks. You can switch between these categories in the left column of the Library dialog.
Any luck getting them into the correct locations?

  • How to drag bookmarks in the library ?

    Hi,
I've got hundreds of bookmarks that I finally want to classify. So I opened the Bookmarks->Show All to get to the Library. Now from there I thought that I could just move/drag the bookmarks ... I remember it was possible to do it on previous versions of firefox ?
But surprise it doesn't seem to work. I can right click and cut/paste it. Or I can go in Organize and Move... it.
For a few bookmarks it would do it, but for HUNDREDS of bookmark that's just not possible. It takes some much clicks and time that I'll probably still be on it next year...

I agree that for a group of bookmarks it's quicker by cut & paste, but as my bookmarks are randomly un-organized usually it's more like one bookmark for this folder, the next bookmark for that folder etc...
    BUT
to answer your other question I opened the library... and... magic... the drag and drop is working again ?!?! So I guess you can close this subject...
Either there was a random bug last time I tried OR one of my add-on was causing this problem. Since last time I disabled FLASHBLOCK. I'll enable it again and try again to see if this add-on was the problem.
    Thanks !

  • Can the bookmarks seach in the library display the folder(s) containing each bookmark?

I use the search feature in the library under "organize bookmarks" to help identify duplicate bookmarks. This would be a lot simpler if a column displaying the folder were also shown for each bookmark.

    Try this extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/show-parent-folder/
    After install and re-starting Firefox
*open Library window ''Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks''
*right-click on right pane column '''headings''', check/click the column headings you want displayed; '''Parent Folder''' column is added by above extension
*drag column headings right/left to position that suit your needs.

  • I have version 4.0.1 on Linux (Ubuntu 11.4), and the "Import and Backup" button is missing in the "Library" pane, so I am unable to restore my bookmarks. How can I fix this?

I am using an older computer as a dual-boot machine, with XP Pro and Ubuntu 11.4 both running independently on it. On the Windows side, I have Firefox all set up with my bookmarks, which I restored from a backup made on my primary computer. On the Linux side, there is no button available to do this. I have looked up the Help for this, and followed the directions, but the "Library" pane simply does not have any buttons showing, where it should say "Organize, Views, Import and Backup". The buttons are completely missing.

Ubuntu may have moved those three button as well to that control bar.

  • Bookmarks pasted to the library do not have a friendly name, can't you use title ?

When I copy and paste a URL, from the URL bar, to the Bookmarks library (Ctrl + Shift + B or Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks), the pasted item within the library includes:
    Name: http://www.mozilla.com
    URL: http://www.mozilla.com
    rather than,
Name: Mozilla Firefox Web Browser — Free Download (copied from <title> .. </title> tag of Page Source.
URL: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/ (updated to reflect the default re-direct page)

There 5 ways to save a new Bookmark in Firefox. Use one of these rather than doing a copy'n'paste of the URL: <br />
    1. {Ctrl + D} <br />
    2. Right-click and select Bookmark this Page. <br />
    3. Bookmarks > Bookmark this Page <br />
    4. Double-click the Star that is on the right side of the Location bar. <br />
4a. (A single-click on the Star will save the new Bookmark to the Unsorted Bookmarks folder.) <br />
    5. Left-click and drag the website image ''(Favicon)'' in the URL bar (or on the active tab) into the Sidebar view of Bookmarks {Ctrl + B} <br />
or to the Bookmarks menu bar item ''(the drop-down will open)'' and then onto the drop-down listing of your bookmarks and folder of bookmarks ''(folders will open)''<br />
or onto the Bookmarks Toolbar - the new bookmark will be saved when you release the left mouse button
