Bookmarks reappearing

Didn't see this posted so here's my problem. Before the iphone 2.0 update i had three bookmarks on my home screen. After the update i didn't need them anymore so i deleted them. Every time i download a program or update one the three bookmarks keep reappearing. I even tried deleting the bookmarks while synced with the computer.

I have the same problem. I had a bookmark to Facebook, but then downloaded the App. But the bookmark keeps coming back every time I install an app or reboot the iphone.

  • Deleted Bookmarks Reappear

I recently updated Safari to 5.0.4. I have since noticed that a few bookmarks I had previously deleted have strangely reappeared. They are located in various bookmark bars. Are there any known bugs associated with this update? If not, any ideas as to why this might be happening? Thanks.

    Hi,
If you have a MobileMe account, that requires syncing which has been known to have an occasional glitch.
Check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, then relaunch Safari. See if that makes a difference.

  • Bookmarks reappearing in old folders, does anyone know why?

I switched a few bookmarks from one folder or category to another one a few weeks ago. Today the bookmarks were back in their original folders or category. For example, I had apple.com in folder called daily links, moved it to favorite sites, then it reappeared in daily links, and it was still in favorite sites, so it did not disappear from the new folder.
Does anyone know why that happened and how to prevent in the future, thanks for your time.

    hey Beth
    questions:
you already have your self-contained .mov, right?
that's the file that you are importing into compressor?
from what you say, it seems like you are choosing presets, correct?
you are not accessing the files while they are compressing are you (opened in FCP for example)?
what else are you running on your G5 while you are compressing?

  • Bookmarks reappear on Firefox startup but not the colorful webpage symbol

    I added the add-on 'MultirowBookmarksToolbar'.
Now, when I restart Firefox, the bookmarks all load up and are visible on the multi-rows, however, many of the bookmarked web page colorful little symbols don't appear.

I have corrected this problem by going to: TOOLS - OPTIONS - PRIVACY and then changing the settings.

  • OOPs somehow my bookmarks reappeared. sorry to bother you!

re previous request to open .jason files. I would still like to now how to open them.

Launch Disk Utility in /Utilities. Then, click on the volumes under the top-level disk. The one that has this listed on the bottom is the boot volume.

  • When I bookmark a website, the address is hijacked by an advertising website. If I try to delete the bookmarks, I can't do so. If I try to add a new bookmark, an ad website attaches to it.

This began a long time ago and I stopped using Firefox because it appeared to have a virus or something. Now, I need to use Firefox because a certain website that I need access to works in Firefox but not in Safari.
In the bookmarks manager, there are only three websites that appear and I cannot delete them. None of my real bookmarked websites appear. I have tried to completely uninstall and reinstall the software, including everything on my computer that contains "firefox" or "Mozilla"--to no avail. When I reinstall, the bookmarks reappear.

Chard..this is Chard, will someone really read my pleas for both needing help...and wanting to give the Mozilla Family help? Hmmm...I am hopefulllll...

  • Can't get rid of old bookmark list for current list to save for backup

My computer was infected with malware and crashed in November. I lost everything but was able to get my bookmarks back with a jump drive.
I then went in and removed a lot of bookmarks and folders, and have added a lot of other folders and bookmarks over time. I do mean a lot.
I am now trying to make a current back up, but every time I try to export it to html format it reverts back to the original list that was edited to the current list, which I can see, and even though it does light up when I select all, it again reverts back to the original list for export, and will not show the list as is now.
Am curious why the original list is even here, as it should of disappeared when the computer crashed, so how can it still be here is another question, but this is not my main question of course.
How do I get rid of the original list and get it to export the current list for back up? PLEASE! Once bitten twice shy.
Running XP Professional on a Sony Vaio 2002.
I have tried to make a copy in a word doc but cannot get it to "copy" to paste to put it into that format.
    Thank you in advance, Trisha

I'm still unclear what is happening when you export.
This article has the steps to export bookmarks to an HTML file: [[Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks]].
Are you saying that the file you export contains the old bookmarks that you removed, or the old bookmarks reappear in Firefox when you try to export??
The JSON format consists of text, but isn't meant to be easily read. Its real purpose is to be restored back to Firefox is you lose your bookmarks. So it is a convenient backup format.
I can understand that you aren't sure what it contains. If you'd like to see how it restores, you can copy the .json file to a convenient location (e.g., thumb drive or documents folder) and restore it into a new Firefox profile.
This doesn't replace your existing Firefox settings, but would be an independent settings folder that exists alongside it. You can create and switch between profiles for testing, to isolate different users, or other purposes. Just don't delete any profiles without backing up the ones you really care about, just in case something were to go wrong during the process.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
    firefox.exe -P
Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
When creating a new profile, I recommend using the default location suggested, and to avoid data loss, not re-using any existing folder.
Once you get the new profile with its default bookmarks, you can restore your last .json backup to see what it includes. This is where the "convenient location" comes in: when using the steps in the following article, you will use "Choose File" to locate that .json file. • Resetting iCloud bookmarks.

    Hello everyone,
As the subject says, I'm having trouble resetting the iCloud bookmarks.
I own an iPhone and recently bought an iPad.
The iPhone is running IOS 8.xxx and the iPad is still running IOS 7.xxx (not planning on changing to IOS 8.xxx).
Now, when I installed the iPad I thought it was time I resetted the bookmarks, because it was a mess.
I've had this problem for a while, but didn't care before I bought the iPad.
The first thing I did, was turning off the iCloud synchronization for safari on both the devices.
I did this and they asked me to delete all the bookmarks from iCloud.
I agreed with this and it deleted all the bookmarks.
So I began testing it, adding some bookmarks on the iPhone and then adding some on the iPad.
Then I re-enabled the synchronization for iCloud.
Instead of syncing between the 2 devices, all the old bookmarks reappeared and I couldn't find the new ones I created.
I repeated the steps twice and can't seem to find a solution.
I've tried searching online, but all the solutions required a mac.
Since I don't have one, I have no idea what to do and hoped someone of you could help me out.
Pardon my English, I'm from Belgium.
    Thanks in advance

    Havent tought of that myself.
Is there no other way ?
SInce iCloud duplicated everyrhing, i've got 100+ bookmarks.

  • I cannot delete chrome bookmark collection in Safari

I had Google Chrome installed but deleted it. I also imported a bunch of bookmarks long ago. Anyway there is a collection called Chrome that I want to delete but cannot. Everytime I try it causes Safari to crash with the spinning multicolored pinwheel and I have to force quit.
I had the collection deleted yesterday after many crashes and forced reboots but today it had reappeared. I can turn the Chrome collection off in preferences but I want to delete them from my HD.
Please help, this is really frustrating since all I should have to do is highlight the collection and select DELETE. I also tried going to the library folder and deleting the bookmarks.plist but the Chrome collection is still there. I do not have a google account - I deleted it two weeks ago - so it should not be syncing from anywhere to make the bookmarks reappear.
I thought everything was suppose to be easy with a Mac!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook 2> /dev/null; } | open -f -a TextEdit
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}' | open -f -a TextEdit
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/{la,mach}* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' | open -f -a TextEdit
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

  • Blazer saving bookmarks to phantom buttons

If I open the Bookmarks view in the Blazer browser, I can manually add a bookmark to a specific button on a specific page, and Blazer will save the bookmark to that button - right where I expect it to be.
If I surf to a website, and I want to capture the URL and save it as a bookmark using the Add Bookmark command (and the Use Current button in the bookmark properties page), Blazer saves the bookmark to the first page that has an empty button.
Unfortunately, if there were other bookmarks on that page, they disappear.  If I select one of the now-empty buttons (thinking maybe the display is not refreshed), the button properties opens and shows no data - no URL, no title, nada.
If I then delete the button I just added, my other bookmarks reappear.
Not to sound excessively Trekkish, but it's like my other bookmarks get beamed into an alternate universe or some such...  ;-)
I can repeat this phenomenon endlessly.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

  • Cant add new new bookmark in Safari

Quitting Safari after adding a new bookmark results in losing the bookmark when I reopen Safari. Quitting Safari after deleting a bookmark results in the deleted bookmark reappearing when I reopen Safari. Any suggestions for fixing this problem.  This problem does not occur if I close but do not quit Safari.
    OS is 10.7.4
    Safari 5.1.7
2.5.3 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacMini
    4GB Memory

Quit Safari. Disable bookmark synchronization, if applicable.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar. Copy the following line into the text box that opens, then press return:
    ~/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist
Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the Finder window open. Relaunch Safari. Select File ▹ Import Bookmarks from the Safari menu bar. Import from the bookmarks file you moved to the Desktop. Test. If Safari now performs normally, you can delete the old bookmarks file. Otherwise, quit Safari again and put back the file you moved, replacing the newer one with the same name. Close the Finder window and post again.

  • Safari won't erase url history

Hi everyone, Safari will not erase the history. I first went under history and selected clear histiory- no success. Then I reset Safari and still no success. I really wanna get rid of the the autofill urls in Safari because my cousins from Canada used my computer and now everytime I begin to type google.com it autofills with google.ca. Its super annoying.
Thanks in advance for your help!

I found what its related with. I erased everything in my safari prefs folder one by one, and found that the autofill urls are linked to my Bookmarks.plist file. I made a backup of it since all my bookmarks where in there and when I put the file back into my preference folder, my bookmarks reappeared and those annoying autofill urls.

See, that's just the thing...it isn't checked. It never was.
It just keeps restoring the home page bookmarks for Safari, nothing more. I just downloaded an update for the NYTimes app, and it made my bookmarks reappear on the home screen again, so the only thing I can assume is that these are somehow linked to my Apple account...only question is, why?
