Bookmarks sync incorrectly

Bookmarks in iBooks are synching between my iPad 2 and my iPhone 4s, but incorrectly. Any idea why that is and how to fix it?

Hello,
You can remove the current sync account in the phone's settings. Depending on the device you are using, there is a tab called accounts in the setting, tap on it select the one you setup for firefox, tap the email address and choose remove account. After that you should be able to add an account again in firefox.
Hope that helps

  • IBooks bookmarks syncing incorrectly between devices

I have a book I am reading on iBooks on my MacBook Pro with Mavericks, my iPhone 5s with iOS 7, and my iPod touch 4g, which has iOS 6. I have each device set up to sync bookmarks and collections between devices, but the bookmarks keep syncing incorrectly. For example: I am reading on my iPhone, and I drop a bookmark 2 pages away from the end of chapter 40. If I open the book on my iPod touch it does not show the current bookmark, but an old one from earlier in the chapter. Another example: I am reading on my iPod touch, and I drop a bookmark two pages away from the end of chapter 40. This time, I open the book on my iPhone, and it has placed a new bookmark at chapter 39! I open the book on my MacBook Pro after that, and a bookmark has been placed at the beginning go chapter 40!
So, there you have it. I place a bookmark on one device, and the other two devices place bookmarks in completely different places on the book.
All of my devices have the same Apple ID, and both of the mobile devices are synced with iTunes.
    Has anyone else experienced this?
    Thanks.

The only info that syncs via iCloud for iBooks is collection lists (not the books themselves), Bookmarks, and Notes.
The Books themselves can be automatically downloaded if they are coming from the store.  On the iPhone, go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Turn on Automatic Downloads for Books.  Same thing can be done on the Mac in preferences.
Since your Books are not from the store, the only way to get them on both devices is to download them to both devices.  This will never occur automatically.  This also goes for PDFs you add to your iBooks
Hope that helps solve the mystery.
iBooks: How to sync iBooks between devices
If you buy a book on your Mac, it’s automatically available on all of your iOS devices with iOS 6 or later.
You can even synchronize your bookmarks, notes, and collections across your devices.

  • Since yesterday, I have been seeing "bookmark syncing in progress" on the status bar for minutes at a time, and the browser becomes almost useless as it freezes.

At some point, I'll see 'bookmark syncing failed', and the browser then acts normally, BUT the behavior is cyclic. I uninstalled 7.0.1 and installed 3.6.20 and the behavior continued. I disabled sync in both installs and the behavior continued. I even deleted the sync server URL in about:config and the behavior *continued*. Oddly, the logs don't show any failures, and report success every time.
BTW, the bug-reporting procedure needs serious clean-up. It is very difficult to navigate the maze. And the help files are atrocious.

That maybe fixes some issues, but not this one. This one has to do with Sync and is getting seriously annoying.

  • How do I set up bookmarks sync to iCloud for Safari in Windows?

The page http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1455 shows iCloud Control Panel for Windows permitting bookmarks sync for Safari but when I run it it shows bookmarks sync for Internet Explorer. How do I set this up for Safari on Windows?

I suggest you post your question on an MS Office forum since it's their software you're having issues with.

  • How do I get bookmark syncing to work?

So I have 3 Mac's here all running Lion. I deleted all bookmarks from one Mac and turned on and off the Bookmark Sync button inside system pref, then hit "Merge". It found something from somewhere and stuffed it in there. I've done the Merge part on the other Macs but I can't seem to affect what's in there.
So how do you manage this? And why does it keep putting "untilted folder" in the bottom - I've deleted about 3 each session...
Really I've got one Mac that I want to be the master for now - but isn't the point of this so you can quickly add a bookmark and it will show up everywhere.
I'm not even trying to deal with iOS yet. (bookmarks there are kindof secondary - since I'm only using an iPod Touch.)

    Never mind... look here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4001
oh well... this isn't the total answer. I had to go into the Library/Safari and throw out my Bookmarks.plist. Now they work - and I can really start cleaning them up!
The trick is for that step where you deselect then select BookMarks in the preferences... You need to have Safari turned OFF. Then switch,  wait, switch back and get out of preferences. Boot maybe helped, but it didn't start working on my final machine until I deleted that bookmark file.
Why doesn't Apple shut the browser off when you hit the button?
I now have quite a bit of iCloud working. This was almost as bad as the Calendars. Once they work they seem to stay working!

  • SEVERE Problem With Safari Bookmarks Sync

Just thought I'd bring this one to people's attention (as well as submitting a bug report to Apple).
I have my bookmarks synced across all devices (MacBook, iMac, iPhone) and recently I decided to tidy them up a bit. On the MacBook I started moving bookmark folders into a newly created folder called "Archive" (wanted to just put some stuff I don't use often into a folder to reduce the number of top-level folders in the Bookmark list). I did this once successfully but the second time I tried to do it Safari threw an error, something like "You cannot do this right now because Bookmarks are being synced."
    OK, I thought, I'll wait.
Then the folder that I'd just moved hundreds of bookmarks into disappeared!
No undo. No CMD+Z. Nothing would get it back.
Then the full horror dawned on me - Safari was now busy syncing this across all my devices. I checked my iMac and iPhone and yes, that folder full of bookmarks had been wiped off every device. Forever.
    What I found ubelievable was:
    1) Safari does not keep a 'previous version' of the Bookmarks.plist file in the same way that, say, iTunes does with it's database.
    2) iCloud does not actually 'back up' your Bookmarks. Whenever you edit them on any of your synced devices you are creating/destroying bookmarks on the only single copy of those bookmarks that exists
So, thanks to that nice little bug (and poor implementation of bookmarks management in Safari), I've just lost hundreds of bookmarks that I can never ever recover.

I use Dropbox for everything. This wouldn't help though in this case as unless I'd have manually copied my bookmarks to a folder in Dropbox there is no automatic way of making use of Dropbox's features with Safari (as far as I can see and without jumping through hoops)
I'm not so much griping about whether or not iCloud backs up your data but more warning that there is a severe bug in iCloud sync whereby somehow it managed to destroy a folder full of bookmarks (which it shouldn't have done) and then propagated that through all my synced devices (which, technically, it should have done). At that point your are screwed because there's no fail-safe mechanisms in place as there is with iTunes (which makes a historic copy of your database each time you perform an operation that alters it).
Or alternatively, given that all of Sarafi bookmarks are just nodes in a single XML file, why not make it so that you can revert to previous versions as you can in, say, TextEdit.
I have submitted a bug to Apple by the way, I only posted here as a warning to others to be very, VERY careful when messing about with your bookmarks if they're synced to other devices.

  • My other computer died and have my bookmark synced setup, however, I no longer have access to sync key and I do not want to generate a new key and erase my old bookmarks. How do I retrieve them?

My other computer died and have my bookmark synced with Firefox sync, however, I no longer have access to sync key and I do not want to generate a new key and erase my old bookmarks. How do I retrieve them?

Sorry, without the Sync Key you can't use Sync to recover your personal data. If you have another device that was connected that Sync account, you can recover your Sync Key from that other device in the Password Manager on non-mobile devices. See - [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/how-do-i-manage-my-firefox-sync-account?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=where-can-i-find-my-firefox-sync-key#w_where-can-i-find-my-recovery-key this].
''Firefox Sync wasn't intended to be a "backup" medium, it was made to keep certain data synchronized between multiple devices.'' That "key" is used to encrypt your data before being uploaded to the Sync server and decrypt the data as it is downloaded to one of your devices. Only you have access to that "key", to maintain security over your data no one else knows that "key".
If you still have that old PC or the hard drive from that old PC, you can connect it to the new PC via USB with a USB enclosure, and you should be able to recover that data if the hard drive didn't fail.<br />

  • ICloud - will you improve it? The bookmark sync is rubbish

I recently switched to iCloud for a lot of cloud stuff. I already had solutions for a lot of these things but when iCloud came out, it got very confusing and I switched to iCloud.
I used to use Xmarks, which is faultless and syncs across oter browsers too. It remembers bookmarks including the exact locations of folders and stuff. The iCloud bookmarks sync does remember bookmarks but they are all over the place. Folders aren't remembered properly and it's really messy.
I think that you guys really need to pay more attention and do it properly.
I also dislike address book app, and use contacts on the iCloud web app instead. This is a bit clunky and could be better. Google contacts are frankly a lot better - but since iCloud it got too fiddly to mix clouds, so I reluctantly went with iCloud
    Fix it please ;)

  • ICloud: Safari Bookmark Sync

For my Safari browser I am replacing Xmarks with iCloud for my syncing. I use Safari on three separate computers and an iPhone. I would like my initial iCloud sync be based on my main computer for the first sync. Hoping it will carry the folder structure over to the browsers on the other devices. After that initial sync, I will like to just have everything Sync like normal. Is there a way to do this or indicate it somehow? I know Xmarks allowed for this and in fact gave you choices how you wanted the sync to be handled.
Anyone have a solution, advice or recommendation on how to do this? It's greatly appreciated. Thank you!
    ~ErickP

All fixed on my end now.  No more safaridavclient taking 8gb of ram at 100% cpu
This is what I did, hope it works for you - don't do this if you never use the commandline
~/Library/Safari  copied to a folder on desktop for backup
In safari exported bookmarks for backup
removed all bookmarks that had javascript in it
let safaridavclient run for 10 minutes at 100%
    killed safaridavclient
    stopped iCloud bookmark syncing
    rm -Rf ~/Library/Safari
    rm -Rf ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.safar*
    rm -Rf ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safar*
    rm -Rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safa*
    rm -Rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safa*
    reopen safari
wait until it rebuilds and open apple.com
    quit safari
    start iCloud bookmark syncing
    wait 15 minutes
bookmarks may be back, you can delete them or keep them if they are good
i deleted them and imported the good bookmarks
Turned on iphone and iPad bookmark syncing

  • Bookmark sync doesn't work

I use iCloud to sync bookmarks between Chrome on Windows and Safari on iPad. It had worked normally until I changed my apple ID (email address) about two weeks ago.
Then bookmarks won't sync. Safari always shows the last revision of bookmarks before apple id was changed.
I have tried disabling and re-enabling bookmark sync on windows, re-login to iCloud on iPad and many kinds of troubleshooting attempts, but it still doesn't go back to normal.
    Could someone shed some light?

    Try the following:
    # Create a copy of that file
    # Change the copied file type to HTML
    # If that doesn't work, change it to JSON
Please upload the file somewhere if the above doesn't work and I will see what I can do with it.

  • IPhoto events sync incorrectly

I have a Mac (OS X VERSION 10.6.8). In May my iPhoto events began to sync incorrectly to my iPhone 4. Pictures are correct in iPhoto, but wrong when I sync them.
I have iTunes version 10.3.1 and iPhoto '11 version 9.1.3.
I am scared to sync my iPad2 because I don't want my photos messed up there also.
    Please help!

Posted this before I realised there is an update for the iPhoto app 9.1.3 which sorts the problem.

  • Bookmark sync not working with large set and maybe javascript bookmark bookmarklets??

Bookmark sync via iCloud doesn't seem to work for me. I use Chrome as my primary browser but keep a huge set of bookmarks synced to Safari via Xmarks.
Basically I either get no bookmarks on my iOS devices (iPhone 4 and iPad 1) or a huge number of repeated versions of 1Password's very large java bookmark.
I've tested by deleting all my Safari bookmarks and starting with a clean Mac. When I do this everything works and changes on any device propagate to the others.
As soon as I bring in my big bookmark set from Xmarks, it all breaks.
Do I need to perform the bookmark clean up I've been putting off for a decade or so?

Can't help with your bidirectional bookmark syncing question but try this for backing up your touch's bookmarks.
Export/backup all of your Safari/Internet Explorer bookmarks (depending on where you're syncing them from) and keep them is a safe place. This is your master bookmarks list. Then delete all bookmarks/folders from your browser. Now sync your bookmarks with the touch with the following iTunes settings:
Under your touch's 'Info' tab, select the checkbox 'Sync bookmarks with Internet Explorer/Safari'.
After syncing, your touch's bookmarks (and only those from your touch) will be synced to your browser. Now export/backup these bookmarks...these are your touch's bookmarks. Now you have a both a backup of your master bookmarks and your touch's bookmarks. When you want to sync/restore your touch's bookmarks back to the touch, delete all your PC browser's bookmarks and import the touch bookmarks:
Under iTunes/your touch/'Info'/Web browser & Advanaced, select the checkboxes 'sync bookmarks with IE/Safari' and 'Replace information on this iPod: Bookmarks' and sync again.
This will transfer your touch's bookmarks back to the touch. Now delete all bookmarks again from IE/Safari and re-import your master bookmarks. Note that after importing them back in, they will likely be in alphabetical order rather than the date added order.
Also note that (at least in Windows) your browser needs to be open for bookmark syncing to take place.

  • FF16 always fails to sync, it always shows "Sync encountered an error while syncing: Incorrect account name or password. Sync will automatically retry this."

I'm having this problem since few releases ago, whenever I start FF, it always fails to sync, showing this line on the bottom "Sync encountered an error while syncing: Incorrect account name or password. Sync will automatically retry this action". First thought that the prob was incorrect credentials, but I can freely log-in https://account.services.mozilla.com I tried unlinking and linking my device again, it still happens.
I waited thinking that they'll fix this, from a release to another, today updated to the last version and it still happened.

I am having this problem with FF 19.0.2 on Win 7 Pro. The sequence of events is:
    1. Start Firefox. Get the error bar about incorrect account name or password EVERY time. I close the bar. If I wait a while and then ask FF to try again the error bar reappears.
    2. Click on preferences from the bar, and get a dialog "Your password was rejected by the server, please update your password." I click "update" and then am prompted for the master password for the security device. I enter that and am presented with an "update password" dialog.
    3. Enter my old password and click "update password." Receive error message "Password incorrect, please try again." I click update again and get the message "Your password has been changed."
    4. However now Sync no longer seems to be set up. I go through the setup ritual again, and find I am back where I started.
I have cleared cookies, tried everything in safe mode, and unlinked and relinked the computer. I have verified I have the right password entered at [https://account.services.mozilla.com/ https://account.services.mozilla.com/] None of this helped. The problem is still there, even in safe mode.

If you think getting your web pages to appear OK in all the major browsers is tricky then dealing with email clients is way worse. There are so many of them.
If you want to bulk email yourself, there are apps for it and their templates will work in most cases...

This one will create the form, database and send out the emails...

The alternative is to use a marketing service if your business can justify the cost. Their templates are tested in all the common email clients...

  • Bidirectional bookmark sync not working...

I have an 8GB iPod touch (firmware v1.1.3 with the new apps) and can't seem to get the bidirectional bookmark sync to work. I have a 20" Intel iMac (early 2006) running 10.5.1 with the latest software updates.
I have some bookmarks that I've added to Safari on the iPod that don't show up on the Mac after a sync and a few that I've added to Safari on the Mac that don't show up on the iPod after a sync.
I've tried everything (reset sync history in iSync, stop syncing bookmarks via the checkbox in iTunes and then syncing again, etc.) short of a restore on the iPod. I want to know if there is anything else I can try before I restore the iPod because I don't want to loose the bookmarks that I've added to the iPod.
Anybody have any ideas/suggestions? Is there a way to backup the bookmarks on the iPod so that I can then re-import them into Safari on the Mac after a reset if I have to?
    TIA
