Bookmarks toolbar gets blank

Hi:
Yesteday when synchronizing xmarks the bookmark toolbar went blank. I still have the bookmarks but the ones on the bookmark toolbar can't be seen. I did a profile restore, tried the syn again same result. I disabled X marks. Today same thing happened at a different laptop with a different profile, after synching x marks the bookmark went blank.
Help???

Make sure that you do not use Clear Recent History to clear the browsing history.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
See:
* Troubleshooting extensions and themes
If you keep having problems then create a new profile to have a fresh start with the Firefox 4 version.

• Is anyone else having problems with FF v29 where the bookmarks toolbar goes blank?

In the new version 29, after opening FF, closing it and then re-opening, most of the time, the bookmarks toolbar goes blank, even though the option to show it is checked. Turning on the menu brings it back or unchecking it and checking it again brings it back. Also, when this happens, the menu icon on the far right will not display any options. This is happening for me on OSX Mavericks, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).

• Refresh button is missing from location bar and bookmarks toolbar is blank when I first start FF30

When I start Firefox 30, my bookmarks toolbar is blank. I have to deselect it in View > toolbars then reselect it and they appear.
Also my refresh button at the far right of the location bar has disappeared and all I see is a magnifying glass.
Another issue I now have is that when I copy and paste the URL for any page into the location bar, this then triggers a Google search and doesnt go directly to the page associated with the URL.
I have tried renaming the FF profile and uninstalling/reinstalling FF but this hasnt resolved.
Any pointers to what my next step should be would be most welcome.
Im using Windows 7 Professional SP1 32-bit

Hi Tora Bisu,
Thanks for the reply, however this didnt help me because you didnt tell me where to find the setting "hide urls stop/reload button", and i couldnt find it myself.
However I did resolve the issue myself by disabling addons one by one and reenabling them til I discovered the culprit.
The culprit as i discovered was the Classic Theme Restorer, which has now been duly disabled and will not be used again.

• Bookmark toolbar is blank after upgrading to firefox 4

I just upgraded to firefox 4. When I turned the bookmark toolbar on, it is blank. When I browse bookmarks via the firefox menu, there is a section near the top labeled "bookmarks toolbar." This has all of my bookmarks from the toolbar of my previous version, but they do not actually appear in the toolbar, its just dead space. That option is not there in the bookmarks button in the top right, but the rest of my bookmarks that were not on the toolbar are there.

* Show your blank Bookmarks Toolbar.
* Show the Menu Bar. This should show all your old toolbar bookmarks, yes?
* Turn on "Customize".
* In the Menu Bar, you will see now an icon followed by the text "Bookmarks Toolbar Items >>". Grab that and pull it down onto the blank Bookmarks Toolbar.
* Hit "Done" in the "Customize Toolbar" window.
* Send me a Scotch.

• Why does my Bookmark Toolbar appear blank when I open Firefox 8.x but is filled after unclicking that toolbar in View and reclicking?

When I open Firefox, the Bookmark toolbar is there but a solid gray. I can restore the icons by clicking View, Toolbars, Bookmar to unselect the Bookmark toolbar, and then repeat the process to select the Bookmark toolbar. This is an annoyance repeated every time I open Firefox. How do I get out of this loop and just have the Toolbar appear populated with icons automatically?

Have you done any customization to the Bookmarks Toolbar? Like adding Spaces or a Flexible Space to the Bookmarks Toolbar.
Does an overflow chevron >> appear on the right-side of the Bookmarks Toolbar?
Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there.
• My bookmarks toolbar is blank even though I have bookmarks set for the toolbar

If I click on the Bookmarks tab, the drop down window shows the sites I have selected for the bookmarks toolbar, but the toolbar is blank. This is a new problem - I used to be able to see the sites on my bookmarks toolbar

Check that you still have the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar
* Make sure that you have the "Bookmarks Toolbar" visible: "View > Toolbars"
* Check in "View > Toolbars > Customize" that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar

• Bookmarks sidebar shows all but bookmarks toolbar in blank

Help! I'm using FF 4.0.1 on Win 7
None of my bookmarks show in the Bookmarks toolbar but they work correctly on the sidebar.
The sidebar shows 3 root folders.
All the bookmarks are properly in the "bookmarks toolbar" folder. None are in the "Bookmarks menu" folder or the "Unsorted bookmarks" folder.

Bookmarks Menu will not sort even after sorting bookmarks sidebar
Install the "SortPlaces" extension. There are several more extensions that you will also want to to install including "Add bookmark to here2", "Show Parent Folder", "Go Parent Folder" for starters. • Bookmarks toolbar is blank

I was recently upgraded to Firefox 12 and ever since I have had a problem with my Bookmarks toolbar. When I first open Firefox the toolbar is there but there is nothing in it. When I open the options menu it shows that the Bookmarks Toolbar is checked. If I uncheck it and recheck it all of my bookmarks will come back once it is rechecked.

Problem solved. Following the above advice I went into safe mode, disabled all the add ons and then re-enabled each to see which one was causing the problem. Turns out the offending add on was the all-in-one sidebar add on. Finally I removed the add on then downloaded and re-installed it again. Now everything is working as it should. Thanks for the help.

Mozilla Fire Fox 4, Bookmark Toolbar, how to get it to work?

Hi,

• Bookmarks do not appear in the Bookmarks Toolbar

My Bookmarks toolbar is blank - there are sites in the folder.... I've just upgraded to Firefox 7. How can I get these bookmarks to show in the tool bar?
(They do show when the sidebar is open, but I want them at the top as I had them.)

Have you turned on the display of the bookmarks toolbar ?
* Use View -> Toolbars -> Bookmarks toolbar
* or Firefox Button -> Options -> Bookmarks toolbar
Note if you press keyboard key Alt it will temporarily display the menubar toolbar, or move the mouse pointer there.

• Upgraded to 23.0.1 and now bookmarks toolbar only shows open tabs and not bookmarks. How to I fix?

Running Win 7 Home Premium. When I upgraded to Firefox 23.0.1, the Bookmarks Toolbar no longer shows my bookmarks which are in Bookmarks Toolbar but shows open tabs. If I uncheck "View Bookmarks Toolbar" the blank toolbar disappears, open tabs stay in there position. If I recheck "View Bookmarks Toolbar" a blank toolbar reopens but open tabs are on the toolbar. I tried to move a bookmark to the toolbar but all it does is open a tab of the location of the bookmark I tried to position on the toolbar.

• How do I get rid of the "Downloads" button on my bookmarks toolbar? Somehow it just appeared and I can't get rid of it.

How do I get rid of the "Downloads" button on my bookmarks toolbar? Somehow it just appeared and I can't get rid of it.

Firefox 20 changed from the old Download Manager to a new Download Panel. You can find a complete write-up here: Find and manage downloaded files.
I suggest keeping that arrow around since it provides handy notifications. You can use the Customize feature to drag it down to the add-on bar where it won't take up as much space. To start customizing:
* right-click a blank area of the tab bar > Customize
* tap the Alt key > View menu > Toolbars > Customize
If you really don't need it, just drag it to the Customize dialog. You can always come back for it later if you like.

• The sprocket at the upper right end of the bookmark toolbar is missing--how do I get it back?

While attempting to figure out how to get the dotted square or blank icon to turn into a favicon, I noticed that the subject of my question was missing. I do not mean the internet options sprocket that is in the drop down menu under the 3 lines icon at the right end of the address/search menu bar.
Also, if you can give me any clues to how to fix the favicon issue, I would appreciate that.
Thank you.

I'm sorry but I don't remember there normally being a "gear" or "sprocket" icon on the right end of the Bookmarks Toolbar. Mine generally has an overflow icon (>>) which shows more bookmarks in a drop-down list. Do you have that one?
Do you have any bookmark-related add-ons that might have added the other icon? Perhaps it needs an update. You can check the status of your extensions and check for updates on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then:
(1) Make sure any bookmark-related extensions are enabled. Disabled extensions cluster at the bottom of the list on a gray background.
(2) Use the "gear" button above the list to Check for Updates.
Any improvement?

• My bookmarks toolbar is gone & won't come back, how do I get it back?

I have already googled the problem & have tried all of the suggested fixes. When I click on the "Show your bookmarks" icon in the upper right, I can click on "Bookmarks Toolbar" and I can see the bookmarks in a list, but they are no longer on a bar near the top of my screen and the "View Bookmarks Toolbar" is already checked. Also, I have already opened the menu, hit customize, & then Show/Hide Toolbars, & the "Bookmarks Toolbar" is checked.
What is prohibiting my bookmarks toolbar from showing?

When you turn the Bookmarks Toolbar on and off, does anything happen at all -- for example, do you get a blank bar? Other ways to access the toolbar list include:
* right-click a blank area of the tab bar
* right-click the "+" button on the tab bar
* tap the Alt key to show the menu bar temporarily, then View > Toolbars
* "3-bar" menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars
Sometimes the file that stores toolbar status becomes corrupted. You can rename the file and customize from scratch.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
* type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
* (menu bar) File > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename localstore.rdf to something like localstore.old
Start Firefox back up again. Can you turn on the Bookmarks Toolbar?
