Bookmarks won't show up in new tabs

I just upgraded to 24.0 Now my bookmarks won't open in a new tab. Also, may of the directories that I had for bookmarks are now on the top instead of on the right?

Firefox doesn't have a built-in feature to open bookmarks in a new tab. Were you possibly using an extension such as Tab Mix Plus before?

Typically an upgrade doesn't remove any extensions, but if Firefox is unable to access your settings folder, it sometimes creates a new one and migrates what it can. If you notice other data or add-ons missing, that could explain it.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean about directories being on the top instead of the right. Is this the position of the Bookmarks menu button on the toolbar? I have just updated to 7.0.1 and suddenly my search results won't open in a new tab

I have just updated to 7.0.1 and suddenly my search results won't open in a new tab (let alone a new window - something I much preferred in the past) although this option is checked.
I even installed Tab Utilities Light Options - all of it's options work, but not for Search Bar.
When I choose one of the search results and want to view several items on that site (let's say a page with some 50 photo's), there seems to be no longer a way to return to the original search result. I have to start from scratch.
I hope this can be 'mended' because this is utterly annoying.

Although 6 other people seem to have encountered this problem, nobody has offered a solution yet. Perhaps the following will put some Firefox gurus on the right trail.
When I said "my search results", I meant the results obtained with Google (standard when installing Firefox). Now I have tried another search engine (Dogpile) and there The tabs do work. Very strange, isn't it ?

I want to open my bookmarks on the toolbar to a new tab. But when I click it, it replaces the webside I am browsing not to a new tab. How would I achieve this? Besides, I don't want to drag the icons. What I want is simply click it. Thank you.

A middle-click on the bookmark should open it in a new tab. Alternatively there are quite a few tab related add-ons that give you the option to open bookmarks in a new tab. Some examples are:

Ringtone won't show up in 'Tones' tab?

I created a ringtone on the Myxer app and followed the app's instructions on how to add the ringtone to my desktop on my computer. I have done this many times before and never had a problem. When the ringtone is on my desktop, it is in the m4r format. I go to 'Tones', 'File', 'Add To Library' and select the tone I want, but it does not show up with my other ringtones. The ringtone will show up with all of my music instead. I looked at the information of my ringtone and it says that the file format and kind is a ringtone, so I am confused as to why it won't show up with my others? I am doing everything the same as I have done before. I also tried adding the ringtone to 'Tones' by double-clicking the ringtone on my desktop and by clicking and dragging it to 'Tones', but it will still show up in 'Music'.
I have iTunes 12.0.1 and a Macbook Pro with OS X Yosemite, version 10.10.1.

Hi Sarah, try to go to edit -> Preferences -> Click on the Tones Checkbox click ok and you will be able to see the tones in your library. Hope this helps.

I just updated to Firefox 17.0.1 and now I can't click on a bookmark to open it or open new tab when clicking new tab button.

In FF 17.0.1 I have several bugs to mention. I am only able to open bookmarks by right clicking them and selecting Open In New Tab from the drop down menu. I am unable to open a new tab by clicking on the new tab button or by clicking open new tab from the FF drop down menu at top of browser. Also, none button work in FF, such as Home, Back, Forward, or refresh. This is so aggravating!!

After I posted this, I restarted with add ons disabled and it worked..deleted a cpl of addons for compatibility checking and that fixed it.

Bookmarks act the same as links on a webpage. If you want to open them in a new tab either right-click and 'open in a new tab' or middle-click (ie click with the scroll wheel).

In Firefox 3.6, when I clicked on a bookmark it would open in a new tab. In 4.0, the bookmark open in an already open tab. How can I make 4.0 work the way 3.6 did when opening bookmarks?

I have already made sure the 'Open new windows in a new tab instead' option is checked. It doesn't make any difference (at least not with bookmarks).

This is the way Avant browser works by default. So if I am gonna change to Firefox this is an issue for me to work without doing any extra clicks...

You can also middle-click a link with the mouse wheel to open that link or bookmark in a new tab.

Why won't Pdf open in new tab

I have foxit pdf and is set to open in new tab ,but it won't

I used new tab last night, and now when I got online today, a new window won't load, just blank new tab.

This happened once before and I had to do a complete restore of firefox, which was a pain. What's going on?

Firefox 3.6.6 won't open links in new tabs or go back or forward pages.

Firefox won't open some buttons or links in new tabs. I right click and go "open in new tab but nothing happens. Also, I cannot click the arrows to go forward or back in the top left corner, they are shaded gray.

Link doesn't show up in frame, but will show up in new tab or window

Recently, rather than post pictures on a photo storage provider and post them to facebook, I have posted them to facebook and then linked to them from this site (select the Pictures link). When I click on a link, I get a blank page in the frame. When I right click on the link and select Open New Tab, or Open New Window it comes up. I don't think I've messed up the html... in fact, I think I just changed the links from previous entries that were actually linked to PhotoBucket or the like. What is wrong, and how can I fix it? Looks like a cross domain security issue. You're trying to display a secure (https) page at Facebook in a http frame at your website. But, I only see that happen when simply clicking a hyperlink on the Pictures page. If I right-click and use the '''This Frame''' part of the contextual menu, no problems.

I used a "cleaning" program to fix registery now bookmarks won't show in the sidebar. the organized bookmarks show in the bookmarks dropdown menu.

How can I get the bookmarks to show in the sidebar again. It is checked as always but after using a program to clean up unwanted or corrupt files, the bookmarks will not show in the sidebar.

What cleaning program did you use?
If you got a pop-up on a website that you were infected then you now probably have caught some malware.
Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database.

LINKS won't open in a NEW TAB or a NEW WINDOW ???

With Safari 3.x when I clicked on a LINK, a new Window or a new Tab would open... Do I have to hold down the friggin' APPLE in order to do this?

In Safari 3, you had to hold the Command key while clicking a link to open it in a new tab, unless you had some other extension installed to automatically do this. The same is true for Safari 4, and if you installed it, it would use all applicable preference settings from Safari 3.
So the question you need to answer is this: What other extensions did you have installed for Safari 3?

Some sites won't open link in new tab

Hi all, i always use cmd-click to open lots of links on a web page in tabs. lately i've been noticing that this does not work on certain sites. for example, on seekingalpha.com, it doesn't matter if i hold down the cmd key, the new link opens in the current window, no new tab. i emphasize that cmd-click works normally for me on most sites.
my question is, is it possible to design your web page so cmd-click doesn't work? has anyone else noticed this?

yes you can do that - that site uses a javascript function
onclick="trackLink...
to force some clicked links to open in the same window/tab - you can override it via ctrl-click in this case, or temporarily turn javascript off in the Develop menu, or there are extensions & other add-ons for Safari to block certain javascript on a site.
