Books for 1Z0-047 and 1Z0-144

Hello all,
I'm planning to study for "Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate" certification. I was planning to prepare for 1Z0-047 and 1Z0-144 as both of those exams are validated against Oracle Database 11g.
I was wondering if any of guys here can help me out with the couple of questions that I have.
1. Which one would you recommend among the two of the below exams?
1Z0-047 (Oracle Database SQL Expert)
or
1Z0-051 (Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I)
2. What books should I refer for 1Z0-047 and 1Z0-144? I read a lot of threads about this topic. But, I haven't found a proper answer yet, which is why I'm posting this question again.
For 1Z0-047, I saw people recommending the following:
OCA Oracle Database SQL Expert Exam Guide: Exam 1Z0-047 (Osborne Oracle Press Series) by Steve O'Hearn
OCA Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide: Exam 1Z0-051 (Osborne ORACLE Press Series) by John Watson and Roopesh Ramklass
For 1Z0-144, I saw people recommending the following:
Oracle PL/SQL Programming: Covers Versions Through Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (Animal Guide) by Steven Feuerstein and Bill Pribyl
OCP Developer PL/SQL Program Units Exam Guide by Steve O'Hearn
I kindly request you guys to help me out as I don't have much idea about these books. It would be really great if someone who has passed the exams or read these books throw some light on these.
Thanks in advance.

Thisi usually a prompt for braindump providers to spam a couple of messages on a thread like this ... and I have to waste time reporting them and some else removing them, as I have had to to this afternoon.
Therefore the 2 links I shall give are:

Ucertify does have a 1z0-144 practice test ... quality may or may not be poor. Ucertify currently remains certifcation safe AFAIK.
http://www.ucertify.com/exams/Oracle/1Z0-144.html
( I feel like I am advertising Ucertify ... which I dont want to be. I feel if I dont do this people will end up with braindump providers). Some may even find a poor quality practice test more harm than good, time may have been better sent learning from the online manuals and practicing what is there.

  • OCA - Choice between  1Z0-144,1Z0- 047 and 1Z0- 051

    Hello everyone,
I am a developer working on Java EE and our DB is Oracle 10g.
I intend to take an exam that prepares me for :
    1. Writing DDL,DML and usage of functions
    2. Creating cursors,procedures,triggers,indexes etc.
    3. Focus on writing efficient queries - sub-queries,joins,manipulating BLOBs etc.
    4. Creating & using Java-like 'collections' in the DB
Given the above requirements, I decided to go for OCA certification. I realized the following path from Oracle's site :
    _1Z0-047_ Oracle
    Database SQL Expert
    OR
    _1Z0-051_ Oracle Database
    11g: SQL Fundamentals
    I
    AND
    Program with PL/SQL
    _1Z0-147_
    OR
    Oracle Database 11g:
    Program with PL/SQL
    _1Z0-144_
Now,I am quite unsure as to which exam I must target first.
Given my requirements, please suggest the best approach( I know the basics of PL/SQL )
    Thanks !

Thanks for the replies, guys !
Just to prevent the fragmentation of the information, I am posting my further question in this thread itself.
My objective now is to consolidate the study material for 1Z0-051.
After scanning the previous threads, I got the following suggestions :
OCA Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide: Exam 1Z0-051 (Osborne ORACLE Press Series) by John Watson and Roopesh Ramklass
SQL Developer guide from the oracle documentation at http://tahiti.oracle.com
OCA: Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate Study Guide: (Exams1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052) ISBN-13: 978-0470395127 sybex.
I prefer to read a certification oriented book to get started and the other stuff - forums, documentation, references for practice.
Hence, please suggest the appropriate study material.
    Thanks !

  • Could I take 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-047 together?

Hi, I am currently planning to take a Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate. At first, I plan to take the path of 1Z0-047 + 1Z0-144 which leads to this certification, because the 1Z0-047 itself is also leading to another cert (Oracle SQL Expert cert). So if I take this path, I would end up with two certifications (Oracle SQL Expert cert and PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate)
However, people keep on telling me that 1Z0-047 is very difficult, saying that 1Z0-051 is much easier if I want to guarantee a PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate.
So, is it possible that I take all three exams (1Z0-051, 1Z0-047, 1Z0-144)? I am thinking that taking 1Z0-051 as a kind of "practice" because it is an online exam and the exam scope looks easy to me. Also I have some budgets allocated to me so I don't mind spend a little bit extra money to Oracle exams.
I'm just wondering whether two of them (051, 047) are mutually exclusive in the exam policy or something.

So, is it possible that I take all three exams (1Z0-051, 1Z0-047, 1Z0-144)?Yes, you may take both 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-047. In fact, I would highly recommend taking 1Z0-051 before taking 1Z0-047. You have heard correctly, 047 is a much more difficult exam and requires a considerably higher level of SQL experience/knowledge. If you look at the study topics for both tests, you'll see that 1Z0-047 includes essentially all of the topics from 1Z0-051, and has another thirty-some topics in addition. Studying for 1Z0-051 is in itself preparation for taking the expert test. I discuss the two exams in an article here:

This is RHEL/OEL 4 based, so centos or OEL or RHEL could be used as appropriate. They important thing to note is the '4' .. which is now a little ancient ... some things a little different in '5' and '6'. The exam could usefully do with a makeover IMHO.

  • Differences between 1Z0-042, 1Z0-043 1Z0-052 and 1Z0-053 and 11g OCP

    Hi All
    I have a small dilemma
For Christmas I was given a copy of OCA/OCP Oracle Database 11g All-in-One Exam Guide with CD-ROM: Exams 1Z0-051, 1Z0-052, 1Z0-053 (Osborne Oracle Press Series) [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oracle-Database-All-Guide-CD-ROM/dp/0071629181/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262090730&sr=1-5|http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oracle-Database-All-Guide-CD-ROM/dp/0071629181/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1262090730&sr=1-5]
As you will see in the book title it covers 1Z0-051, 1Z0-052 and 1Z0-053
About a year ago I attended the following courses
    TT - Oracle D/B 10g Program PL/SQL-QA-IQ
    TT - Oracle PL/SQL - GK
TT - Oracle 10g Intro to SQL
I have been meaning to get round to taking my exams and OCA qualification is no problem as I can take 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052 using the above book and the knowledge I gained on the course (even though the course was 10g).
But my question surrounds 11g OCP and how it requires instructor led training - now I have done my 10g course but I guess this wont count as an instructor led course for 11g OCP.
If not then im going to need to take the route of 1Z0-042, 1Z0-043 to get OCP and 1Z0-050 to upgrade to 11g
So I would ask how safe I would be learning the above mentioned book and taking the 1Z0-042, 1Z0-043 exams. I understand there is no accurate answer as it is subjective but if 1Z0-052 and 1Z0-053 (11g) knowledge covers 1Z0-042 and 1Z0-043 (10g) knowledge then there should be no problem, right?
I really dont want to have to take the book back or purchase another.
    Thanks in advance

RobYour'e thinking sensibly about this. Well done. And the hands on course needs to be considered carefully and I often say this can be deciding factor in planning.
IMHO there is at least 80% commonality between the topics for 1z0-042 AND 1Z0-052 .... and probably similar for 1z0-043 and 1z0-053 whoug I've never directly checked this and there may be a greater divergence there.
Be aware some topics in 1z0-050 will not be covered in the books you have as far as I am aware.
One option you have not considered is taking exams in this order ..... this will give you 10g OCP and 11g OCP. This is wha I did .... but it mainly occured that for me way as the 1z0-053 was fairly delayed into production and I wanted the certificates I could have as soon as possilble .... ie 10gDBAOCP and 11gDBAOCA. I actually did the 1z1-053 beta for my 11g DBA OCP ... cheaper than 1z0-050 as I already had 11g DBA OCA.
    1z0-051 1z0-042 1z0-052 1z0-043 1z0-053.
I know you dont want to buy another book, but the 10g ones from Sybex (and associated CDROM's) give a slightly different viewpoint (though they are for 10gR1 and are not updated for 10gR2 topics). IMHO the sybex books can ometimes go a little over the top in some areas. But all these books can contain some errors ... however they do provide an extra set of practice questions. However it is an option for you.
Its worth registering your 10g course as a hands on course as soon as reasonably possible to ensure there are no issues with it (I assume you have attended the course from Oracle University).
Anyway these are my thoughts. But you know your own circumstances and are responsible for your own decisions. Good Luck.

Online exams are non-proctored, which means that you can take them at your convenience any time, anywhere. Pre-registration is not required. You register when you are ready to take the exam.
Online exams are closed-book exams --- books, course materials and notes are not allowed. You should prepare for them fully and rely on your own mastery of the material.
Candidates who take the online exams are subject to the Oracle Fraudulent Activity policy and must agree to the Oracle Candidate Agreement (presented at the beginning of the exam). You should never have someone take the exam for you. You should never test under a name other than your own, and/or test using more than one name or Prometric Testing ID.

    Certification Forum ModeratorMy opinion is:
Particularly in the 1z0-147 case this exam is more open to braindump abuse than the later 1z0-144. In both cases a candidate of one of those exams should be able to transition to studying for the other without overmuch effort. Indeed if they had passed their certification we would expect them to do that.
Having said that it may be that WDP (and others), but it is WDP that counts, have been training people towards 1z0-147/141 rather than 1z0-144/1z0-151; and if this was the case Oracle owes care to these people.
1z0-147 exams rely on training on software that can not longer be downloaded from OTN.
My concern, and it is perhaps legitimate to ask the concern, is that they is simple number counting being done here as opposed to 'why?'.
Please consider: http://www.supernanny.co.uk/TV-Show.aspx ... rewarding good behaviour, Victoria Stillwell ... etc. etc.

  • Oracle Linux Administrator Certified Associate: 1Z0-402 and 1Z0-403

    Hi
there is a study guide available soon Oracle Enterprise Linux Administrator Certified Associate Exam Guide (Exams 1z0-402 and 1z0-403), that why I will take exam ;-)

Unfortunately LPIC expires after 5 years unless you take a higher level or retake same level .....
    RHCT similarly.
The Oracle exam certification relates to OEL/RHEL 4 ... which is a bit oldhat rather than redht nowadays. The advantage for you is it is an easy win, the disadavantage is it doen't really say much mor eabout yourself. RHSA on RHEL 6 might suit and say more .... but might be harder to gain. Any it wouldn't help any Oracle Partnership points iof that was important. However as pointed out you should be able to waiver 1z0-402

  • Separate address book for my wife and I

I reently switched to Mac and this is driving me crazy. I would like to keep our computer under one user so we don't have to switch user profiles to access her address book or if I update and address in my book, it doesn't get updated in hers. But, when I go to address e-mails I don't want her huge list of names being auto-suggested and me having to sift through all of her addresses in order to find the people I want to address the email to. The question: Is there a way to keep all of our addresses in one address book (one user profile), but when I am logged into my mail, Mail knows to only look in MY address group for the email addresses I specify, instead of pulling up my wife's rediculous sized (and often unorganized) bunch of addresses. I don't want to accidentally slip up with the arrow keys and add one of her recipients to an outgoing email. Sometimes my wife's friends wouldn't appreciate emails that guys send to each other if you know what I mean...
Thanks for any help...and please tell me there is a way to separate my wifes email address book from mine...please tell me Mac thought of this.
PS I've tried the whole 2 user profiles thing and the idea of seperate address books for updating sake and other reasons, I'd like to try the single profile thing.

I thought Mac would be better with their mail client than this.
But Mail has nothing to do with this at all. Address Book is a completely separate application, and it's that way for good reason; it's not merely a whim.
I can't imagine what Mac is thinking that if a family of 5 uses the family computer, that all 5 people's email addresses clog up the search for the person writing the email at the time.
Each user has a separate Address Book (and other applications like Mail and Safari) to keep that exact scenario from happening, as well as to keep people out of each other's accounts so things don't go missing, private emails aren't being read by overly curious people, and so your account doesn't get screwed up by someone else playing with things they shouldn't be touching.
Are there any third party apps or plugins I can download in order to tell Mail that when I am in my account to only search for the contacts in a certain group that I create?
Sorry, but there's no such things available. It would be impossible for your Mac to become sentient and know what you created versus someone else creating.

Backup your data off the machine to a external drive (not TimeMachine) and disconnect.
Create another Admin account in System Preferences and log into it, delete your Admin Account and reboot.
Optional: Open Disk Utility and Erase Free Space (Zero good enough, 7x for military level, both take time)
This should be good enough to remove just your account and data without the hassle of reinstalling the OS and all new programs again.
However if you need that level, then c boot off the 10.6 disk (or command r boot on Lion) and use Disk Utility there to Zero or 7x erase the OSX drive/partition, quit and reinstall OS X. Much more work that likely is unnecessary in your case.
    Good Luck.
