  • Anyone recommends a good book for object oriented programming

    I am a college student in computer engineering (Software) and have been programming using Java for over a year. I have become really interested in the design of softwares and the "beauty" of object oriented programming, and thus would like to advance my knowledge about the topic (my university offers an advanced oop class but I would have to wait another 6 months to take it). So my question is, could you recommend me any book that covers the subject of object oriented programming extensively? (I have learned most of the oop I know from "An Introduction to Programming and Object Oriented Design Using Java" by Nino and Hosch.
    Thanks in advance

    Some years ago I remember cutting my teeth on OOP using an excellent book by Grady Booch. If it's still in print and has been updated, it may be worth a look. Again it was decent. Also consider picking up a book on design patterns. Good luck.
    Edit: I found it, it's called "Object-Oriented Analysis and Design with Applications", and it's in its third edition. You can find it here on Amazon.

    Not really. It is just one of the few decent books I've seen. If you are a true beginner, I suggest a computer science program at your local college or university.

  • Where can I get a copy (hardcopy or soft) of apple's book "The Objective-C Programming Language"

    I have recently began apple's course "Developing iOS apps" To get through a section I need a copy of Apple's book "The Objective-C Programming Language" Does anybody know how I can get a copy? (I live in Australia) It is really important.

    You use to be able to get it in the iBook store, that's where I got my copy. They had a whole section for Apple Developer Publications.  But I just looked and I dont't see it there now. Not sure is Apple pulled it from the store.

    what is the best book of objective c and from where i can download it?

    Before purchasing a book be sure to exhaust the excellent resources on the Apple Developer Site. There are quite a few guides, references, and samples for Objective-C.
    Learning Objective-C: A Primer
    The Objective-C Programming Language
    Object-Oriented Programming with Objective-C
    etc.
    If you are developing for Mac or iOS, there are plenty of other documents describing the frameworks, including the Cocoa Fundamentals Guide,  iOS App Programming Guide, etc.

  • Best books for a beginner.

    I am in a Java class right now, and the material as it has been presented has been very confusing. I really want to get a good understanding of Java, my question is: What are the best books for someone that is starting to learn Java? I was looking through different reviews of Java books, and Just Java 2 by Peter van der Linden sounds good, but I want the book to explain Java in the simplest form as possible.
    If I could get some more recommendations I would appreciate it.
    Thanks.

    Head First Java is wonderful, but I wouldn't use that book on its own. It's a lot of theory, but very few examples and no programming exercises. Some books tell you how to do something, but they don't tell you why it works, so you end up unable to program anything that isn't exactly like what they showed you. Head First Java really gets into the why and it's great for making you think like a programmer, especially if the object-oriented thinking isn't coming naturally. But you need a book that has more of a tutorial format in addition to Head First.

  • Good book for learning pl/sql quickly

    Please suggest me a good book that covers all aspects of pl/sql in depth.
    Thanks in advance. :-)

    A good book for learning PL/SQL quickly?
    That is not a function of the book. That is a function of your ability to learn and understand new concepts. No book can make you learn "faster".
    Also, even before trying to learn PL/SQL, there are concepts and fundamentals to understand. Specifically:
    - [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/toc.htm]Oracle® Database Concepts
    - [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14251/toc.htm]Oracle® Database Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals
    - [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14261/toc.htm]Oracle® Database PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference
    And after that, also have a look at Application Developer's Guide - Large Objects, Application Developer's Guide - Object-Relational Features. Not to mention the SQL Reference and the PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference guides.

  • Good book for JSP

    Hi all
    Can u pls just me a good book for JSP especially for beginners other than "Core Servlets and JSP" by HALL .The customers review for this book in amazon.com is very poor .Pls help me.
    Thanx in advance.Bye

    When I went to Amazon to look at the reviews I saw that Hall's book got 4.5/5.0 stars based on 217 reviews.
    Three reviews are listed in detail, and two of those are negative, so I can see where the OP got his negative view of this book.
    But all 214 of the others couldn't ALL be wrong, could they?
    I have "Core Servlets" and "More Core Servlets", and I think both are very good. If the OP is a newcomer to servlets and JSPs, I know these will be a good enough introduction.
    These books do suffer from the same problem that a lot of computer books do: advancing standards. JSP and JSTL have moved on since Marty Hall wrote these books, so he's not always 100% up to date. But the basic information is well done.
    If the OP still objects to Hall's texts, I'd recommend getting a servlet/JSP book that discusses the latest standard, if possible.
    Jason Hunter's O'Reilly book is also good, in my view. - MOD

  • Good book on Object Oriented Design?

    Can you recommend a good book on Object Oriented Design with lots of practical examples? I already have:
    http://www.amazon.com/Design-Patterns-Object-Oriented-Addison-Wesley-Professional/dp/0201633612/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1238324375&sr=8-1
    But currently I need a book with a more basic approach.

  • Book for REST web services

    Hi,
    Suggest me one good text book for learning RESTful webservices in java from the basic..

    here is a sample the service class handling REST stuff:
    myServices.factory('resService', [ '$resource',
        function($resource) {
            return $resource('http:/server:8080/objects/:objectID', {}, {
                query : {
                    method : 'GET',
                    params:{objectID:'objectID'},
                    isArray: true
                update: {
                    method : 'PUT',
                    params:{objectID:'@objectID'}
                delete:{

                    params: {objectID:'@objectID'}
    I hope this will help!

  • Company's Address Book for external contacts

    Hi all,
    I'm currently deploying a new Exchange 2013 in a company who had a different email system, so far.
    One of the achievement would be to have an address book for external names (so, not in AD) shared within the company but managed only by a restrict number of people.
    As example, list of vendors contact. The list should be available read only for everyone, but only the IT Infrastructure and few other people in the management should be able to add/remove/change the items.
    Whato would be, in your opinion, the best solution to achieve that?
    I was thinking using Public Folder. Create a sub-PF of contact objects and restrict permission accordingly. The only issue I can see, so far, is that seems not possible grant permission on a group basis to PF. Am I missing something here? It's the first
    time I'm working with PF in several years :)
    However, if there's a different solution you may advice, I'm all ears.
    Any suggestion would be highly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance to everyone.
    Alessandro.

    I was able to solve this myself.
    Security groups has to be enabled on Exchange before being used to assign permission to PFs:
    Enable-DistributionGroup -identity <SecurityGroup>
    Add-PublicFolderClientPermission -User "<SecurityGroup>" -AccessRights
    '<AccessLevel>'
    Hope this helps someone.

  • New Videos : Objective-C and Xcode Essential Training

    Disclaimer : I have no association, stand to gain from, etc. whatsoever.
    This is purely my opinion.
    For a couple of months I have searched for training videos, and have found the full spectrum, from the 3 minute very amateur YouTube, to the professional products listed below which have been excellent:
    ( 1 ) Objective-C and Xcode Essential Training
    Author : Craig Williams
    http://www.vtc.com/products/Objective-C-and-Xcode-Essential-Training-Tutorials.h tm
    ( 2 ) Bill Dudney from the Pragmatic Bookshelf
    http://www.pragprog.com/screencasts/v-mcxcode/becoming-productive-in-xcode
    http://www.pragprog.com/screencasts/v-bdobjc/coding-in-objective-c-2-0
    ( 3 ) John C Murphy
    http://www.johncmurphy.com/category.aspx?cid=97
    Before I started trying to learn Cocoa and Objective C, I had found some tutorials AppleScript ObjC
    at http://macscripter.net/viewforum.php?id=31
    As it turns out there is a fellow named "Craig Williams" from http://allancraig.net/ who had written some of the tutorials, and had always been most helpful. As it turns out, he has created a 6+ hour video course (68 lessons) on "Objective-C and Xcode Essential Training"
    Eventually I decided to try to pursue Cocoa and Objective C, and I have been trying to document and pass on what I have learned, and even if what I have learned is not much, at least it is a starting point for some people that may know a little less than me, if that is possible...
    Anyway, some feedback about :
    Objective-C and Xcode Essential Training
    Author : Craig Williams
    http://www.vtc.com/products/Objective-C-and-Xcode-Essential-Training-Tutorials.h tm
    I have gone through the "NSUserDefaults pt. 5", and it has been an awesome experience. I was going to wait until the DVD became available next month, but decided not to wait, and re-joined http://vtc.com so I could start watching the videos right away. I was already familiar with a lot of the stuff in the first few lessons, but very quickly I started learning a lot of things I didn't know. The lessons got really interesting, very quickly...
    Craig has a wonderful way of teaching, and I sincerely hope he will continue making more videos.
    I liked Bill Dudney's videos, John C. Murphy was excellent as well, but my favorite by far has been Craig Williams' videos. I am only half way through the course, and I can't wait to see the rest of the 68 lessons. He just explains stuff really well, and I am enjoying his style very much.
    Hopefully somebody else will benefit from this...
    Best Regards,

    In my enthusiasm to let others know how happy I was with some of these videos, I praised Craig Williams, and rightfully deserved in my opinion.
    I was unfair in not praising the others enough. I felt badly about that, and the more I thought about it, I wanted to make it right...
    John C Murphy's videos are absolutely amazing, and he covers a lot of material. He is a really amazing individual.
    All of these wonderful contributors just have a slightly different style.
    Thank You...
