Books navigation within iBooks

I am a iOS developer and I use extensitvely iBooks with reference manuals (epub and PDF books mostly). It is a great tool compared to Kindle, especially with the ability to organize books in collections.
One thing that should be improved is the ability to keep several books open at once, rather than having to go back to the library, change the collection, select the book to open it, and then shortly after back to the first book (again going back to the library, change the collection and re-select the previous book).
Could it be possible for Apple to make it a tad more sophisticated so that we can navigate not only from page to page in a single book but from a selection of "open books". I remember at school for some work we had several books open on the table and we were passing from one to the other. Now student have the internet more than book, but the concept is still valid.
Now with apps like iBook it should not only be possible to browse from book to book in a set but also from part of a book to another part of the same book in the same manner (without having to either turn pages from one part to ther other or having to go back to the TOC, sometimes a very long TOC).
Especially with the push (I think it's great) in the educational books, it would be great that iBooks becomes more than an apps to read sequentially a novel but to effectively "work" with books.
What do you think of that suggestion?

You can add bookmarks to different pages within an ibook and access them via its Contents Bookmarks Notes screen, but that might not be as sophisticated as you are want.

Tap the iBooks app not iTunes.
On your iPod tap Settings > Store
Make sure Books is enabled.

You must add the itunes redirect tag within the <channel> element of your feed. Its doubtful that a 3rd party app would support this tag, but its possible. If you have access to the actual xml file, you can add the redirect feed manually using any text editor.

The itunes redirect tag simply tells iTunes users where your podcast has been moved to, and updates their local settings accordingly. The next time they visit your podcast, they will go directly to your new feed specified in the redirect tag.
For non-iTunes users, the itunes redirect tag doesn't help. Thats where the 301 redirect comes in, however it is a bit complicated depending on the type of host your podcast is on. If you don't want to tackle the 301 redirect, keep reading.
One method of updating non-iTunes users...if you can still post an episode to your old feed, then one option is to post a text file that directs people to your new feed. You could also post a brief audio clip stating the same thing. Leave this episode up for a couple of weeks and then kill your old feed.

Call OpenURL from Widget within iBooks/iBook Author?

I am trying to call widget.openURL("...") from within a dashboard app that I imported into iBooks Author. While this is working fine in the simulator and in the dashboard, it is doing nothing inside the book context. Everything else is working fine within the widget and I checked that the "openURL" code is called - but the method seems not to be available on iBooks. Anything I can do to open an URL from within a widget? (Using the hyperlink feature from within iBooks does not help).

None seem to correctly address this:- Is there code to fully access a website and stay in the widget in the iBook?
A link - in the book- on a readers iPad - that opens a web page will open a browser and take the reader away from the book, when the iPad moves to the browser window - tapping the ebook tab will re-open.
Moving from one web page to another from the web links, will- on the iPad - just open another window.
To my logic, to stay literally within the widget means having a widget that turns the widget aperture into a web browser. I have seen this done within website pages using iFrames I think. Maybe some web coders may have a solution.

Is it possible to view books purchased in iBooks on an Android device

Hi, I've bought my first book within iBooks, is it possible to view it using an Android device e-reader (I use Aldiko, but could use any other)? I get a technical failure when I try and import which I suspect is caused by DRM kicking in, having previously imported ePub titles without any problems.
Also, are there any good alternatives to the iBooks store - e.g. which allow purchases which can be copied between devices in this way?

Only the iPad can read the .ibooks format produced by iBA. If you want to use the pdf option, then anything can read it.

You can redownload any purchased books without syncing with your PC. To do this, open iBooks on your iPad, click on the Store button at the upper left of the screen. Once the store loads, you'll see a tab labeled Purchased on the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. Click there and you'll be able to download any books that you purchased from the iBookstore.

You didn't say what app you purchased them in, so I'm going to assume it's iBooks.
When you get the new iPad set up on the same iTunes account, just go to the store within iBooks and then select "Purchased" on the bottom right corner. To the best of my recollection, it will let you download previously purchased books.

How do I open make iBooks regognize two books created in iBA as different books/files? (iBooks opening separate books as the same file)

I am trying to load two different books created in iBooks Author into iBooks. These books were exported instead of uploaded to the iBookstore, therefore I download them and then open with iBooks on an iPad.
Here is my problem:
When I download a book (Book A), it opens in iBooks correctly. If I download a second book (Book B), instead of opening Book B, iBooks re-opens Book A. This also happens vice-versa if I delete Book A and then upload Book B. Essentially, both books cannot be loaded in iBooks at the same time, and iBooks treats the second download/open attempt as the second book being opened, when in actuality it opens the wrong book.
When I looked at the authoring files, I saw they had the same title listed in the Book Pane in iBA. Even when this title is changed, the books fail to open correctly in iBooks.
Has anyone run into a similar problem? Also, I am wondering if legacy meta data is a possible reason for iBooks to open the same book twice instead of loading and opening the new book? (if this is the case, is there a way that this legacy meta data can be deleted)?

Either creating a new file or saving the old as a template file & renaming it solved my problem.

Hi,
Yes you are miss understanding the problem. To clarify. The problem is not how to delete the book from a device, it is how to delete the puchase (i.e. the history). You can hide it in your account settings, but you cannot delete it. So if you buy something on a shared account (i.e. a family account like mine), your children can see and download any of your puchases - forever.
Some will say it's for your protection. A bit like the shop looking after your receipt, so that you cannot lose it.
However, I thought that as part of the data protection act, you could ask for this information kept about you to be deleted, but this doesn't apply to Apple purchases. Believe me I've tried.

I'm making the book for children and there is one chapter providing coloring pages. So I wish to attach pdf files that allow users to download it at the end of chapter so that they can print it out. Been searching through discussion, I've found some advice about taking screen snapshot page-by-page > then send the pics from photo album to email. However, I'm wondering if there's a way that make the process easier.

I have a question regarding navigation within a pop-up window.
The pop-up window is generated as below, the component usage is defined in the runtime repository for the main window.

Within the component, there are two views defined and assigned to that window. If the component is tested by itself navigation is possible in the usual manner using a navigational link, clicking the button calls the outbound plug, then the inbound plug then the bsp page and then the screen changes to show the new view, this uses the following code
CALL METHOD op_toamendrep( ).
Then in the outbound plug:-
me->view_manager->navigate( source_rep_view = me->rep_view
                              outbound_plug   = 'ToAmendRepresentative' ).
However when the same chain of events is actioned in the pop-up, the navigational link is called the plugs are called and the associated BSP code is run through in the debugger, but the actual screen in the pop-up window is still shows the first view, not the second as we would expect.
Can you please help me to resolve this issue?

I had the same issue and I found turning off safai extensions fixed the issue. Must be an extension that's causing this problem.

Have you changed the template?
Some pages may not have numbers in place as default. If you have changed the page or the template page, you may have added a object which as pushed the number out of view, or an image may be in a layer on top of the text.
If you select one object on the page...then go to Edit, select all, you should see the outlines of any content no matter that content may not be seen. Look at the bottom for a page width rectangle outline.. IF its there, you need to shuffle the content until you find that box, and use Arrange > bring to front.

It's all seems a bit confusing doesn't it? Here's my explanation ... Historically, to add a book to the Apple iBookstore, the file needed to be in epub format and pass a valadition check. So, we all learned how to do that. Now, Apple has added a new format, .ibook. To make books in this format all you do is create a book using iBook Author. There is no need to convert ibooks made in iBooks Author into epub. They meet Apple's specifications. In fact, ibook is a type of epub.
So now we all have to ways to get books into the Apple iBookstore: epub AND iBook Author.

It's your content, under your control.
If you output as an .ibooks file, and you want to sell it, the store is the only outlet, otherwise, you can do as you wish.
