Books not downloaded on iBooks

Books appear dimmed on iPad after purchasing but can't be opened or deleted. How do I overcome

ibooks from Apple can currently only be read in the iBooks app on an iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, Apple haven't made a Mac (nor PC) reader for them.
And they are different operating systems - iPads and iPhones run iOS, your Mac uses OS X.

How do I stop a book from downloading in iBooks   It has been downloading for 2 days

Perform a "hard reset" on the device by pressing down and holding the home button and the sleep/wake button for up to 30secs. until you see a black screen with the Apple logo, then release.
Then test to see if it solved the problem.

  • Books not appearing in iBooks

In Mavericks, I transferred all of my books from iTunes to iBooks (File > Move Books from iTunes). However, none of the books appear in my bookshelf/library when viewing in iBooks.  I tried buying a new book while in iTunes, it downloaded, but it does not appear in my library either. These books are accessible in iBooks via a search but cannot be seen in the library.
    Any suggestions?

I rebooted my Mac, and now the books appear in the library.

  • Books not downloading properly

I have downloaded a book from my ipad but it is missing half the chapters it keeps saying error missing information, I have deleted and tried downloading again but the same thing keeps happening

Try deleting the iBooks app and reinstall it. Make sue that you sync with iTunes in order to transfer all of your purchased books into iTunes first.
Tap and hold down on the iBooks icon until it wiggles then tap the X to delete the app. Tap the home button to stop the apps from wiggling. Download the app again.
You can download purchased books again in the iBooks Store via the purchased tab as long as you use the same Apple ID.

  • I have lost my books I downloaded from ibooks

I Downloaded books from the Internet and stored them in ibooks. When I opened iBooks it showed for a second and then disappeared. Now the app shows 330 mb worth of data but iBooks shows only I book I downloaded from the store and none from the Internet.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

  • Specific books not downloading from ibookstore

I have been trying to purchase a book on the iBook store called a new earth by eckhart tolle. It's in the oprahs book club and every time I try to buy it I get the following message:
This item is currently being modified please try again later
I have already purchased two books already and this book is just not working. Any ideas?
    Nick

This item is currently being modified please try again later
I would assume this to mean there is some sort of problem associated with this book and that rather than sell the volume and have a multitude of dissatisfied customers pounding on the virtual iBookstore doors demanding a refund, they simply disabled your ability to download the defective product until "repairs" could be made.
You could, of course, contact support to try and get more specific information regarding the problem and/or an estimate as to when the book is expected to be available for download.

  • Books not downloading after purchase

My book shows up in my list of purchased books with the little square with the blue circle around it saying it's downloading but it's not moving and it never downloads and I cannot open my book. This has happened several times, does anybody know what to do.  This all started since the new software update when the iPhone 6's came out.  I'm about to give up on iBooks and just purchase on kindle app. This is ridiculous that I have to fight with it to read a book.

  • New iPad air. books not downloading from iCloud

I had quite a few books on Ipad 2. Just bought ipad air and after clicking backup from icloud only a few of my books are readable. When I click on them it says formatted incorrectly or is not a format that ibooks can open. Any ideas anyone?

Reset your WiFi router and/or cable modem. Unplug it/them from power for about 30 seconds and then plug them in again. The I would restart the iPad and try again.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • Books not downloading

Suddenly, some books I purchased are marked as in the process of being downloaded without actually downloading. This includes books I have read, as well as the book I'm in the middle of reading. I have tried quitting and restarting iBooks as well as shutting down and restarting my iPad.

There are separate restrictions for the iTunes Store and the iBooks Store.

  • HT201272 A book I downloaded using iBooks seems to have frozen and won't finish downloading. What can I do to get it to resume?

It says its downloading but there is no progress what so ever.

    Hi Bradyfromidaho,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below should answer your question.
You can click on the link to see more details and screen shots.
I've highlighted the pertinent information for you below.
iTunes: How to resume interrupted iTunes Store downloads
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1725?viewlocale=it_it
If your download was interrupted on your computer
You will be prompted to resume your download the next time you quit and reopen iTunes. You can also manually restart the download with the following steps.
    Resuming downloads from a computer
    Open iTunes.
Choose Store > Check for Available Downloads.
Enter your account name and password.
    Click the "Check Downloads" button.
Click the Resume or Resume All button, or the resume arrow to resume the download.
If you believe that the item downloaded completely but it is not appearing in the Purchased playlist, click Library on the left side of iTunes to see if the item appears there.
If your download was interrupted on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
You can manually resume the download on your device with the following steps.
Resuming downloads from an iOS device
From the Home screen, tap the iTunes icon.
For iPhone/iPod touch, tap More > Downloads. For iPad, tap Downloads.
Enter your account name and password.
    Click the "OK" button.
Click the Resume, Resume All button to start the download.
If you cannot complete the download on your device, you can finish the download in iTunes on your computer and then sync it to your device. For instructions, see the following articles:
iTunes Store: Where can I download and sync my purchases?
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    Additional Information
If your purchase does not resume downloading after following the steps in this article, you can also try the following steps to troubleshoot the download issue.
    Restart your computer or device.
Check for updates for your Mac or PC and install any software updates. Also, check for and install updates for any security software you may have (anti-virus, anti-malware, firewall, and so on).
If using Wi-Fi for Internet access, try using a different Wi-Fi network when downloading. If you are connecting to a home network, try restarting your Wi-Fi router. Also, check for and install any firmware updates for your Wi-Fi router. (Refer the manufacturer's website for your router to get information on updating its firmware).
If you are on a computer, try using an ethernet cable for wired Internet access instead of using Wi-Fi. If the issue is still unresolved and you're using iTunes for Windows, follow steps in iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

Regarding iTunes U courses, would I be able to link to books/sites (like say an amazon hardback book or link to a kindle book they can purchase and download).  Considering that not all books are available on iBooks I'm hoping this is allowed.   Also the possibility on monetizing since amazon gives commission for linking.
This question is for both the uncredited (private) courses and the bigger accredited accounts.    I am a  developer trying to learn how to help my area schools and also have some ideas for my own courses.    Obviously keeping within the iTunes U app would be preferred in most cases (to the learning experience) since they can take notes and see them within the app itself.
If the reply comes from a non-apple employee please let me know (or better yet, link to) where that is clarified.   I would hate to develop something just to later find out it is against the apple iTunes U agreement.

    Fair question
And, to be even more fair, I have to tell you that I get that every single day. And it's getting worse (or better, depending on how you look at it).
I always try to let people know it's a long way until you get to a confortable point, a point where you can create something. And that's exactly what I am trying to do, or at least asking how/if I should do it. And then I let them know where to start. That's what I want.
    Thanks.

  • IBooks books "Cannot Download" because "there is not enough available storage to download _______."

Before I begin, here are the details of my particular iPad:
    Build Version: 10B329
    iOS 6.1.3
16 BG iPad 2 (although it says that the capacity is 13.84 GB)
It has never been damaged nor has it experienced any water damage. It runs very well.
My issue: I am trying to download the ibook entitled Algebra 1 (Common Core Edition by Pearson) from the iBook Store. The ibook itself is only 2.46 GB large. After purchasing and upon downloading, however, I run into an issue. The book cover is placed on my iBooks bookshelf with the "New" ribbon on the upper-right. It then begins to download and, shortly after, I receive the following error message:
    Cannot Download
There is not enough available storage to download "Algebra 1". You can manage your storage in Settings.
    - Cancel
    - Settings
Having had issues with iBooks in the past, I thought this was just another glitch. But, in order to rule out any uncertainty, I checked my storage capacity anyways. On my first download, I am positive I had enough space on my iPad (although I can't remember how much). I had recently freed up my iPad by deleting videos and other apps. After doing all of that, I tapped the cover of the ibook again to initiate the downloading process. With more room, I was certain it would work, but then I received the same error message.
After that, I attempted to redownload the ibook after having tried each of the following techniques:
    - Turned off my iPad completely with iBooks still installed
    - Turned off my iPad completely with iBooks uninstalled, and then reinstalled it after turning the iPad back on
    - Deleting the ibook from iBooks, delete the iBooks app, completely turning off the iPad, and then redownloading everything after turning the iPad back on
    - Delete other ibooks
    - Transferring all of my bought ibooks to my iTunes on my computer (this technique actually worked for another on of my ibooks, but not for this one...)
    - Sign out of my iTunes & App Stores account and then signing back in
    - Turning ON the "Books" Automatic Downloads option
The only thing I think I haven't done is restore my iPad... Which I really do not want to do. Having to redownload all of those apps is a painstakingly long process...
Even now I have enough space to download it and it still gives me the same error message. My currect space specs are below:
    Storage
4.8 GB Available     9.1 GB Used     (Most of this is from iBooks as you can see)
    iBooks               5.7 GB
    Japanese          221 MB
    Facebook          114 MB
    Penultimate       102 MB
    etc......
    iCloud
    Total Storage     5.0 GB
    Available           5.0 GB
    etc......
I have deleted numerous apps and media on my iPad to make more room. I have read on other Apple Support threads that iDevices need space in order to move files around and such. I think 4.8 GB should be enough for this! Especially for an ibook that's only 2.46 GB large!!! This is really frustrating and I really need this ibook!!!! If someone could give me some other tips and tricks, that would be great. I really don't want to have to restore my iPad though... If it comes down to that, I guess I have no choice.
Another detail I left out is a popup window that comes up just before the error message that reads:
    Downloading Item
When this item is finished downloading, it will be available in your library.
    - OK
I'm not sure it's related to the issue, but I decided to put it out there anyway so that this problem can be as detailed as possible.
Thanks for all of the support!

I have the same problem.  I got an error when downloading an iBook to my iPad, and now it shows up as "gray" in my book list. I'm running iOS 7.1.1 with iBooks version 3.2.
Actually, you don't have the same problem at all. The OP had excessive "Other" taking up space, leaving no space to download additional books.
You seem to be having a problem with a specific file. If I were you, I'd start my own thread with a subject line that describes your issue. You're going to get better answers that way than by piggybacking on an old thread.
Yes, you should still be able to load iBooks by syncing with iTunes. There may be a problem with the file itself. Are you able to add other books? If so, contact the iTunes Store to see if they can help you with this particular book.
    Best of luck.
