Boost fast track in logic express, help please?!

hi there,
i'm new to Logic and this forum; I have a problem enhancing volume into logic; I can hear/manipulate my guitar sound through my fast track USB but the peak level in the track seems very low... my imported playback audio sounds good and so are the levels of those tracks whereas my recorded guitars are very low! I'm plugged through the instrument jack and the sound level in the mac preferences is correct, how's that I can record at a proper volume?
maybe it's a common ploblem but here I'm stuck...

Hi,
This is obvious, but make sure your Input Level Switch is set to the GUITAR position.
Assuming you have it that way, another option is to get a direct box (or at least a line-matching transformer). Plug your guitar into that, come out of it w/ an XLR cable, plug that into the mic input. That will give you the ability to use the Gain control on the Fast Track to boost your level.
If that's not enough, you can insert a Gain plug-in into an Input Track.

  • Entering tablature for audio track in Logic Express 9

    Hi,
When recording an audio track in Logic Express 9, I'd like to manually enter tablature for the recorded piece. After reading the manual and some tweaking, I still have a couple of questions about this:
    1. It seems one can only enter tablature for midi tracks, so I end up adding a fake midi track, muting it, then entering tablature on that midi track. Is there an easier approach?
    2. Is there a way to enter whole chords at once in the tab track instead of first having to enter each note of a chord separately, then copy/pasting that chord to all places I need it? (I know one can add chord symbols, but these are just text symbols that do not have rhythm notation.)
    3. It seems that the tablature editor in Logic Express supports only a limited number of fingerings, i.e., one cannot add a note on the 6th fret of the 6th string, as this is automatically turned into the 1st fret on the 5th string. Can this be changed?
    Any help appreciated!

    Hi,
    To answer your questions,
    1. I'm sorry, but there is no easier way. Since the "audio to score" function (where you let Logic interpret the notes in the audio and makes midi out of it) hasn't fully matured yet, I don't think there's an easier approach.
    2. In the environment you can add a chord memorizer. With this function you can Logic tell to put in a (for instance) C-chord when you hit just the C-note on your midi keyboard. Since I used this function just once and I'm not anywhere close to a Mac with Logic I can't tell exactly how this works right now.
    3. You can change the position of a note on the tablature by changing the note's MIDI channel (in the inspector).

  • Track delays before playing  -  Help please

DSP - 3 One of my tracks seems to delay before playing and I end up with a black screen before it begins. I went back to Final Cut and can't find any problem with it there. All my other tracks start fine. Help please.
    Thanks.

Where are you seeing this? On a DVD player or in Simulator? What kind of menu are you using?
The delay on a disc is usually (but not always) related to where the menu is physically located (usually near the spindle hole) compared to the track (anywhere else moving outwards towards the edge of the disc), and the routing tables which DVDSP creates on your behalf when the disc is built. Not all menu/track relationships will see the same delay and you can perhaps reduce it by adding the asset for the troublesome track into another track and setting it apart with a story. Your menu can then point to the assets within the story and it should make a difference.
However, the delay you see on your player will almost certainly be different to that seen on another player - without using a spec level authoring package (or trying it in DVDSP4 where you can move menus into specific VTSs) you may well be stuck with it as it is if adding the asset to an existing track doesn't work.

  • Setting up my Interface in Logic Express (HELP!)

    Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if someone could maybe help me out a little?
ive got a Macbook pro and recently brought Logic 9 express for it, i also have a Lexicon Alpha interface (http://www.musiciansbuy.com/mmMBCOM/Images/lexiconalphadw.jpg) i have a M Audio Axion 25 Midi controller which i understand has a built in interface so this shouldnt need to run off an external interface.. anyway...
heres my problem, ive only just got Logic 9 and so i havent got much idea on alot of it yet, but last night i plugged in my interface via USB to my Mac, loaded up Logic. Plugged in my guitar input to the interface, created a new project and i have no idea where im going from there? Logic does recognise i have a interface but i cant get any sound, please someone tell me where im going wrong and what i need to do to.
    Help will be much appreciated
    Thanks alot
    Lee

There are no silly questions in the Logic Express forum (don't you try this in the Logic pro forum )
    LOL
However, you'll need a real audio track, no MIDI track. Use the "instrument" or "audio" track, because the "software instrument" and the "external MIDI" tracks are MIDI only, which means they only handle MIDI data (and in the case of the "software instrument" track, it converts this MIDI data by using a instrument plugin into hearable audio).

  • Track playback problems.  help please!

I have big problem with playback in Logic.
When I open up a project that I have been working on, only four tracks will play back. On the rest of the tracks, the record button disappears, and in the mixer ALL information except the track number disappears.
I can see all of the waveforms in the arrange window and they are exactly as I left them (I have checked this out on multiple project files) but I have not been able hear more than four tracks.
I have tried a full reinstall and re-update of Logic Express and I am running into the same exact problem.
Is there some setting that I inadvertently changed? or is it something more serious?
ANY help, suggestions, or ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.
    Thanks!
macbook pro Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    Welcome to the Discussions!
One possibility, for at least part of this:
    1. For each of the tracks you don't hear, check the channel strip's I/O setting (in the lower left of the arrange windo). Do you have it set to (probably) your Output 1-2? Try it out to see if this is helpful.
    2. The record button disappears:
If these are Audio tracks and you DID have record buttons initially, in the Arrange window's local menu (the six menus at the upper left, within Logic, not in the Mac's menu bar), drop down the VIEW menu to see IF the "Track Record Buttons" is checked. If it's not, select it to check it, and you should have a voila moment.
    3. As for why only the track number is visible in the mixer, I have no clue.

  • Recording woes/m audio fast track usb+logic 9

I'm new to Logic (and recording in general) and I just hooked up an M-Audio Fast Track USB and a condener mic to my 13" MBP, and I'm getting a ton of hiss, low volume, and playback on only one side of my headphones. I've tried all sorts of combinations of input types (mono/stereo) and output types (mono/stereo 1-2) and still have the same problems. I think it's only on one side of my headphones because Mics record in mono if I'm not mistaken, and I have the same problem when I plug my guitar into the guitar input instead of using the mic. is there any way to split it or pan it? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

    Robwoj08 wrote:
and when I select stereo output it automatically switches to output 1-2. Is that normal? If not, is there a way around that?
    thank you!
Why would you want a way around it, there has to be two outputs for stereo, 1=left, 2=right.
Set the mono track's pan control to the middle position.
You're using headphones or speakers plugged into the M-Audio?
Make sure Preferences/Audio "Universal Track Mode" IS selected.
You know, the manual could help you clear up a lot of the basic operation problems you're having.
There's no way asking 1001 questions on here or any other board is going to clear all of this up. My suggestion is to start reading now, whether it be the manuals or books on DAW recording. You have to get an understanding of the basics or you will continuously butt your head against the wall. Once the basics are cleared up it's much easier to figure out problems. The manuals are 10 times better than when I learned the program and are a worthwhile read.

  • "m-audio fast track"  with logic 9- signal but no live audio?

Im using m-audio fast track, guitar interface with logic 9.  I get a signal and can record but don't hear anything until i record something, unplug the usb & play back the recording?? (os x 10.7.4 & elect guitar)- any idea's would be appreciated thanks
    & merry x-mas!

I'd suggest reading this first to make sure you understand the hardware setup.
This is from the Logic Manual, a great place to start.
    http://help.apple.com/logicpro/mac/9.1.6/en/logicpro/usermanual/#chapter=2%26sec tion=0
    Read:  "Configuring Your Audio Hardware"
Also... where are you expecting the sound to come out of?
Do you have headphones and/or speakers plugged into your audio interface?
Read the chapter I posted, you need to know what's going on with the setup.

  • Logic Express - Help

    Hello All --
I'm having a bit of an oddity and am looking to see what information that anyone can give me.
    My configuration is simple -
Mic thru cable into Alesis multimix 12 - To this point I get a great signal and all is working as I think it should be.
Multimix out thru firewire into Mac G4 dual processor (1.25 GHz I believe w/ 1GB RAM and too much HD OS X.4.8) using Logic Express 7.2 as audio software - what reads as "0" on the multimix is -22/-244 as received by the software - basically my signal *****.
Tried using Garage Band instead - still el sucko
Tried using Steinberg Cubase LE - still el sucko
So my question is - anyone have any idea what is killing the signal? I know this is digital audio and a little different than analog - but this just seems wrong in so many ways.
I've tried many different Firewire cables and have even tried a different computer - still no levels - what gives?

    many Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi aalkemist,
Then, pehaps, your signal needs to be amplified a little more before, reaching Logic. On the Alesis, can you turn it up more on the input? Without going over of course.
Some meters in the "real world" reflect different dB readings. I won't go inot details on that,as the vultures might descend on this...
Suffice to say, that I have one good example of hardware VS software meters.
I own a focusrite trak master preamp. The older one with LED output meter.
It is calibrated so that when the LED meter reads -18dB,I get approximately -8 dBFS on the Logic meters. dBFS means "decibels full scale" and there is no going over 0 on this scale.so when I track with this preamp,I can only have the LED meter read up to -8dB,or else it clips the input to Logic.
Now,in your case, the "real world" meters might be calibrated to a different level.
I would suggest you do the following test,to see what the levels read in the Alesis, and what they read in Logic, when feeding a known signal:
1.in logic insert a "tone generator/oscillator" plugin to a channel, and output it channel 1 only (mono out) and set the level to,say, -20dBFS
2.take a lead cable from output 1,and wire it up to another input, say input 3 on your Alesis.Make sure the input level on the alesis is not cranked up all the way,but at -0-
3.place another channel on input, with input 3.check to see what the Logic meter is telling you.If there is a difference, note it,and check the Alesis manual,to see what their reference levels are.
From this, you'll know what levels to feed the alesis,in order to get an optimal recording level, and also at what levels both the alesis box and Logic clip at.
    Cheers

  • Creating new tracks in logic express

This must be the most basic question ever I am sure but in the arrange window after my 1 -4 pre set audio tracks at the top of the page I then have 8 more audio instrument tracks 5 - 12,the problem is that track 5 ,instrument 1 is the same as track 9 (instrument 1 again) the same thing applies to track 6, instrument 2,this is the same as track 10 still another instrument 2 again. If I change the instrument in track 5 for example this changes track 9 as well to the same instrument. This effectively means that I only have 4 tracks to use where am I going wrong ?
I have used the set up assistant and allocated 20 audio tracks if this helps ?

Go to "track" in arrange, select Create Multiple. And select the number of tracks you want to add.
Being a new Logic user 4 years ago this really was a showstopper for me, too.

  • Regular Expression Help Please?

    Hi
I'm trying to get my head round regular expressions in find

it's a slow process for me!
    I have this -
    <a

and I'm trying to change it to this -
    <a
    href="
    http://www.forms.mydomainname.com/cgi-bin/urltracker/tracker.pl?site=http://www.website-ad dress.com&email="
I was trying first of all with a *.*, but couldn't work out
    how to tell it
    where the code ends?
They are hundred of pages like this, all with different
    website-addresses.
After I have changed all the pages to the new code, I then
    will need to copy
and paste an different email address to the end of each line,
    to each page.
Unless anyone knows a way of automating that?
Hope someone can point me in the right direction?
    Many thanks, Craig.

    Hi David
Many thanks for all that and the detailed descriptions.
I will be working through it all again tomorrow, so will put
    your info to
    the test! lol
As for partially building the email addresses, I think that
    would be too
    much,
as the emails are all over the place, some have their own
    domain, other use
    hotmail, Yahoo etc.
Some even have they own domain for their website and a free
    one for the
    email address.
They are all Hotels, B&B' & Cottages etc.
Hopefully all your hard work will help me a step closer to
    understanding it
    all.
    Many thanks again,
    Craig.

  • Problems installing Application Express  - Help Please

    Hi
I have the personal edition of oracle and i have a database instance set up in entreprise manager. Now I'm trying to install application express to the database via SQL Plus. I run into two problems
    1. It says in the document that you need to log into SQL as SYS rather than SYSMAN, when I do log in as SYS i get the error message saying that I need to choose either SYSDBA or SYSOPER so I do rather than normal but I need a username/password to log in and I don't know what Username/password they are referring to. I tried a couple of usernames and passwords already and have been unsuccessful.
    2. So instead of logging in as SYS, I logged into the SQL Plus as SYSMAN. I load the apexin.sql file onto the SQL Plus and I push on execute. The it asks me to enter the 5 things, so i enter "password, SYSAUX, SYSAUX, temp, /i/" and i get the error message "SP2-0916: Scheme not supported"
I have tried several times already. I am working off a toshiba Satellite P200 and it is windows Vista. What am I do wrong please HELP!
    Carol

Hi there I'm still running into some trouble here
When I am logged into my Enterprise Manager as SYS on my laptop
I scroll to the bottom to open up iSQL plus and once I'm in, I get to the iSQL Plus Role Connection and there is 3 choices - 1) Normal 2) SYSOPER 3) SYSDBA
I can log into normal with SYSMAN but when i choose SYS, it tells me that I must choose either SYSOPER or SYSDBA
If I choose either of those, I get another login pop up saying that I need to log into the DBA system, but I don't know what username/password they are referring to. I tried logging into iSQL plus and tried executing sys/<sys password> as sysdba but it doesn't work. Please help!

  • Changing The Tempo Of Audio Tracks....Help Please!!

    Hi,
I've been pulling my hair out! I bought Logic 9 today, and have been trying to find my feet making a mashup of Enya's Orinoco Flow and The Prodigy Smack My B*tch Up....It's one of the easiest 2 tracks to mix apparently. Right...to the problem, and i'm sure it's a simple one for anyone with some Logic knowledge...
The BPM for the prodigy song in audio track 1 is 136.2 which is the base bpm i want to keep for the song...
I then import Enya into Audio track 2....How on earth do i change the tempo of the enya track to 136.2 ??!! I have tried everything (Except what works, clearly)
I hope that makes sense...Any help would be apreciated!
    Thanks

Are they? Wow, I had to read that bit twice, but I suppose the suggestion is that they're not too far apart in terms of tempo anyway - try establishing the tempo of both of them exactly, then you've got an idea about how much you need to adjust one against the other if the maths is too difficult (it is often for me, I prefer just to listen to it and try things and then decide).
Have a look at using the Time Machine for starters, anyway and do a bit of research in the manual and the Software Instruments manual as well - you can do things like that with the EXS24 sampler but in a different way, you know.
