Boosting o2 Wifi signal with Airport Express

Dear all,
I had read that one could boost our o2 Wifi signal with the Airport Express. I don't seem to be able to do it! Can anyone help.
Detsky

It is possible if the wireless network is created by another AirPort Express (AX), an AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS), or a Time Capsule. Otherwise it is not possible.

  • How: Extend a non-Apple wifi signal with Airport Express

I have a Wifi modem provided by the ISP, Tiscali [Italy] unrelated to Apple.  I want to use my AE to extend the signal to another part of the house.  The Tiscali router was set up with WPA2.  I have Airport Utility 5.6.1 [yah, I know, old; haven't moved up from OS 10.8.5 either, MBk Pro] and the Airport Express is MC414Z\A  C86L9K02DV3R.  Opening the A Util w the AE powered up [yellow light showing] I immediately saw the AE listed at the left, but now that I go back to the Utility and rescan, it doesn't find the AE, altho Airport is one and lists that AE showing a full signal, properly calling it "gatti.11n."  Your advice would be most appreciated and likely will be helpful to many others saddled with a non-Apple wifi router.

Apple AirPorts cannot wirelessly "extend" a signal from a third party product.  They can only wirelessly "extend" a signal from another Apple router. Another way of saying the same thing is that if you want to wirelessly extend a network using an Apple router, you need two Apple routers.
    You have two options:
Option 1.  Add another AirPort Express and install it close to the ISP modem/router using an Ethernet cable and configure the Express to 'create" a wireless network. Then, your other AirPort Express can wirelessly extend the signal from the first AirPort Express.  The "extending" Express will need to be located where it can receive a strong signal from the first Express.
Option 2. If you cannot run the Ethernet cable....or....you do not want to add another AirPort Express, then a pair of Ethernet Over Powerline (EOP) adapters might be able to send the Ethernet signal over the existing AC powerlines in your home.  These products are also sometimes called HomePlug adapters.
The theory with these devices is that you already have the wiring in place.....you just need the adapters.  In practice though, things do not always work as well as the theory might suggest. So, if you decide to try a pair of these adapters, then it would be good idea to understand the store's return policies before you buy.
Any computer / electronics superstore will have a selection of EOP adapters. Ask the salesman what type and brand that he would recommend.

  • Extending the wifi signal with airport express

I tried to extend my network with a new apple express. My wireless internet service works from my older airport extreme base station, but the a window comes up that says "No base stations were found on "your network”. Choose a different network or go back.
Not sure why I can be connected wirelesslyto my network, but no base stations were found.

thanks for responding.  I've turned all off, then back on.  When I go to airport utility, this window comes up "
This version of AirPort Utility doesn’t support this base station. Go to AirPort Service and Support for more information.
Again, my computer is connected via wi-fi, yet the airport base station is not recognized.  Certainly, when airport utility is opended we have the symbol for internet showing, as well and the airport extreme connection with the correct network name.
the model S/N of the airport extreme is SNH53340C3NW2  Not sure which number the model number is..
    So, I tried this....
I took  my laptop and airport express into the room where the wireless airport extreme modem is, and configured the airport express from there.  Now the express shows on both computers.  But,  when I click on the extreme icon, it still says that airpot utility does not support this base station.  Does this matter at all?  Seems to me the system is not recognizing the express.
    thanks for your input!

  • Boost Wireless Signal with Airport Express

I bought the new airport express to boost the signal from my time capsule (in my house) to my garage office.
I have the AX set up but I don't see any difference in the signal.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Mike, welcome to the discussions!
Check the settings for both devices using AirPort Utility as follows:
    1) For the Time Capsule, click on Manual Setup and then click the Wireless tab below the row of icons to display the wireless settings for your TC. Make sure there is a check mark next to "allow this network to be extended"
    2) For the Express, click Manual Setup and click the Wireless tab. Wireless Mode should be "extend a wireless network" (Users often choose "join" by mistake when they are trying to extend the network). Make sure there is a check mark next to "allow wireless clients".
    Any improvement?

  • How to create a wifi network with airport express in hotel room?

When I'm traveling to hotels that have internet, but not wifi, how do I set up a network using airport express?  When I've done this at home, I've used my laptop with the airport utility.  Can I do it with just an iPad?

Yes, you can use the Airport Utility for iPad here:

  • HT4259 Extend existing WiFi signal using airport express?

I have a Belkin Play Max Wireless Router Modem in my existing WiFi set up.
I want to extend its range, could I connect a Airport Express wirelessly to extend its range (as my house does not have ethernet lines built in)?
And how would I be able to do it?

Apple's "extend" setting is a proprietary feature that is designed to only work with other Apple routers. So, it would be extremely unlikely that it would work with your modem/router from Belkin.....or any other manufacturer, for that matter.
Your best bet for compatibilty is to always use wireless routers and extenders from the same manufacturer on your network. Check with Belkin to see if they have what you need.

  • Need help getting LG TV wifi connection with Airport Express?

I can successfully hook the tv up to the network using the dongle PIN method on the Airport Express. It works fine until I turn the tv off. Then I have to go through the whole setup procedure again. Very frustrating. How can I get the Airport to allow the tv access when I turn the tv back on without having to do the setup again? I did not limit access to 24 hours. Not sure what I am missing. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

The dongle is the little usb device that makes the tv wifi capable, it is assigned a unique PIN that I input into the airport express utility so my wireless network will allow it access. All that works fine, but I have to redo the whole setup everytime I turn the tv off. Have you any experience with this and can offer a hint on how to allow the tv access each time I turn it on?

  • WiFi problem with Airport Express

Several people visiting my apartment aren't able to navigate the Web or use Email over my WiFi Network. I'm guessing it's a DNS, IP or proxy issue as they're able to use Skype on their phones over my network, but nothing else. What could be causing this? I just recently set up this new Airport Express and I'm able to navigate, etc just fine with all of my devices (but I should note that I have specific DNS address set on all of them, since I use a DNS service).
I never had this problem before with my old Time Capsule. Started happened after I switched over to the Airport Express.
    Thanks

Perform the Factory Default Reset one more time. Hold the reset button until the amber light has been blinking rapidly for 8-10 seconds before you release the reset button
Run the setup wizard, and wait for screen similar to this to appear, then click on Other Options:
Select the Add to an existing network option, then click Next and follow the prompts.
If you are still having difficulty, try running the setup utility on an iPhone or iPad, since Yosemite has a number of bugs in the setup process.

  • No signal with Airport express

I have been using Airport Express for almost a year so that I could use Airtunes. It has worked fine until just recently.
I have a PC in a home office that is connected to my router, a Powerbook next to it which connects via AE, as does another laptop downstairs. We lost internet connection on the 2 laptops a few days ago and since then I have Hard reset the AE a few times as I was able to establish connection for a few minutes then it would drop out again. Now however, I am unable to pick up the AE in Airport Utility at all. The light is green on AE but it just doesn't find it. As far as I am able to tell I am up to date on Firmware (assuming that is part of the software updates?)
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

What neighbors do you have, how close?
I suggest you run iStumbler or something similar to find out if other WiFi routers are competing with your AX. Also there may be some other electronic device such as a wireless phone that is interfering. I don't know how you could detect the latter.
I found designating a channel worked for me. My AX would automatically stick to channel 1 and I had lousy reception. specified channel 8 in airport utility for the AX and problem is solved, for now at least.

  • Sudden slow wifi connection with Airport Express 802.11n

Recently, all of a sudden I noticed the speed of my internet droped dramaticlly from ~27Mbps to ~4Mbps (Speedtest.com) Comcast's blast. When I connect my laptop directly to the modem there is no problem with the speed. I tried restarting the modem, changing the channel/radio mode on the airport express, hard reset the airport epress, change the location of the airport express but nothing has changed. I notice that the speed fluctuate on speedtest.com meaning it ranges from 1-3 to 5-7Mbps. I test the speed on three other laptops but still got the same result. The only change I can think of that could effect this is the addetion of two computers to the network but I would still get the same speed when they are powered off.
    Thanks

Do I have to change anything on my computers?
you use +airport utility+ (AU) (in your applications > utilities folder). launch AU, double-click on the icon of your extreme to enter manual setup, and go to the wireless tab. see this screen shot
however, before you do, i recommend you download iStumbler (does not work with Snow Leopard) or AirRadar (it has a trial period) and note the channels other networks in your vicinity are broadcasting on. change the channel of your network as far away as possible from those.
    good luck !

  • Schedule WiFi shutdown with Airport Express

    Hi,
A few years ago I had an AirPort Extreme that I got rid off because it was consuming 40W without any possibility to turn it off. I am considering buying an AirPort Express but before I do I would like to make sure that I can schedule a complete turn off for the WiFi part at night.
I read that you can schedule the access for the WiFi based on the Mac Address for the kids, but I would like to automatically turn off the wifi from 0:30 to 6:30. Is this possible or is it a function that only my $19 buffalo router can do ?
    Thank you for your input.
    J.B.

    Hi J.B.,
The same, I've an AirPort Extreme, and some concerns regarding Wi-Fi spreading all over our flat, knowing that we have a little dude living in there. Would be great if Apple AirPort configuration utility could offer a scheduler to turn Wi-Fi off, during some custom time ranges. We already switch iPad to "Air Plane" mode at night, but I think it's not enough.
    Cheers,
    el' ~

  • Ipad toggling wifi connection with airport express

my iPad when it is in sleepmode loses the wifi connection... when waking it, it restores, but sometimes wifi signal keeps flickering on/off...

    1. Turn router off for 30 seconds and on again
    2. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • Lose wifi connection with airport express

Everytime I turn on the computer, there is no wifi connection.  The symbol is still at the top of the screen, but is gray rather than black.  I can click on it and it gives me the choice of my network or a neighbor's.  All I have to do is click on mine and it connects.  This is a real pain.  Anything I can do

In System Preferences > Network and create a new network location.
    Test by restarting the iMac.
In System Preferences > Network > Wifi > Advanced remove your network from preferred networks.
Open Keychain Access under System remove your network.
Copy /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration folder to your desktop as a backup. Then trash the main SystemConfiguration folder and restart the mac.
The above steps basically make the iMac's network settings default.
Join your network and remember in keychain, if prompted.
Do a restart and hopefully the iMac will automatically join your network.

  • Trekstor pocketair wifi storage connecting with airport express

    Hey there!
Is is possible connecting a Trekstor wifi Storage with airport express? I wanna use Itunes and this storage for streaming music with mit mac pro book (OS X 10.9.3)
Or is it nessaray to use a apple wifi storage like airport extreme?
    Thanks!
    Best regards
    Michael

Is is possible connecting a Trekstor wifi Storage with airport express?
In theory, the Trekstor should be able to connect to an existing network either via a wired (Ethernet) or wireless (Wi-Fi) connection. The AirPort Express, depending on the model, can supply both.
On the other hand, the Express DOES NOT support hard drives connected to its USB port; whereas, the Extreme and Time Capsule base stations do.
