Boot a pc on lan with Lingo

Hello:
Can you tell me how can I boot one or more pc's over a Lan with Lingo?
I think this is call WOL.
Do I need any Xtras for this?
Have you any sample code?
thank you very much

I have never used the asUDP xtra, but after a quick read of the documentation it looks like it might work. You will probably need to use the accompanying BytesXtra as well. The structure of the Magic Packet is described in this wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake-on-LAN.
It is an interesting project. Please post updates of your progress.

  • [solved] Cannot activate wake on lan with systemd

    I have activated successfully wake on lan with systemd, following these guidelines :
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wol#With_systemd
    My [email protected] is:
    [Unit]
    Description=Wake-on-LAN for %i
    Requires=network.target
    After=network.target
    [Service]
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/ethtool -s %i wol g
    Type=oneshot
    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target
    It worked nicely until I recently had to reinstall my server (following a disk replacement). Since then systemd fails to activate wake on lan.
    Output from systemctl status wol@enp0s4 :
    ● [email protected] - Wake-on-LAN for enp0s4
    Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/[email protected]; enabled)
    Active: inactive (dead) since ven. 2014-07-25 11:21:28 CEST; 23min ago
    Process: 181 ExecStart=/usr/bin/ethtool -s %i wol g (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
    Main PID: 181 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
    Output from ethtool enp0s4|grep "Wake" :
    Supports Wake-on: pg
    Wake-on: d
    If I explicitly start the service with systemctl start wol@enp0s4, then ethtool enp0s4|grep "Wake" shows:
    Supports Wake-on: pg
    Wake-on: g
    My guess is that the service does not start at the correct timing at boot.
    I have also tried wol-systemd package from the AUR without success.

    After a fiew tries and reading docs, I found that replacing network.target with multi-user.target in [email protected] seems to work for me.

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (WAKE On Lan with Realtek)?

    Hello can the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (BIOS 1.B) WAKE On Lan with the Realtek card?
    It does not appear to work for me and there is nothing in the BIOS.
    My WOL packets wake up other PC's.
    Please Help.

    Hello !
    Go into Bios Setup, Integrated Periphals, and disable the nvidia Lan, but let the Onboard LAN enabled.
    Now go to PCI Configuration, Wakeup Events, and enable wakeup on PCI event and wake on LAN.
    Check in Boot Order Menu if you can select the realtek onboard Lan as first booting device, push it in first place.
    Another Option could be using the nvidia Lan, its reported to work with wakeon lan.

  • Pop/Imap retrieving and redistribute in LAN with OsX Server

    It's possible to download mail accounts hosted in my isp and redistribut'em in my lan with OsX Server with it's own mail server?
    The scope is not to have a local server mail because we have ADSL and sometimes the line broke up...
    We prefere have mail hosted more securely in our external isp.
    But an internal mail server is a commodity very useful...
    Sorry if the questions is answered before...
    Thanks in advance.

    Maybe not easy but should work:

  • I have a copy of Windows 7, and I am trying to bring up Boot Camp on my MacBook with Snow Leopard.

    I have a copy of Windows 7, and I am trying to bring up Boot Camp on my MacBook with Snow Leopard. But my Snow Leopard install disk is too old for Windows 7, so attempted Boot Camp install of drivers fails.
    I have hand-installed the NVidia graphics driver, and I have keyboard, minimal trackpad, and hardwire to internet all working. So the WIndows machine is usable. But I am hurting for wi-fi, better trackpad, and whatever else is delivered by Boot Camp. I can't use any of the Boot Camp upgrades because I do not have XP or Vista.

    Dear Nathan,
    Many thanks. To the best of my memory, that is how I got where I am today. Initially I had one failed setup, then discovered compatibility mode and ran using it.  The result was not an obvious failure, but something was not there because not only were some drivers missing (wi-fi, trackpad, ...) but (much to my disappointment) the 3.1 update would not run. It complained that 3.0 wasn't there. If I hardwired to my home network, the machine would do almost everything I wanted, but the graphics were slow and clumsy. That is when I hunted around for the NVidia driver and downloaded it from NVidia. And that is where I stand now.
    My son found this link http://www.simplehelp.net/2009/01/15/using-boot-camp-to-install-windows-7-on-you r-mac-the-complete-walkthrough/
    which has instructions claiming to do the install straight to Win 7 without using compatibility mode.
    Given that my clumsy efforts to patch things up have probably necessitated a Win 7 deinstall and reinstall to test either your plan or the one my son found, I am inclined to sit tight for a couple of days to see  how much I can learn.
    I appreciate your interest in  this problem, and if you are up for reading the process at the link my son found and commenting, I would be grateful.
    In any case, many thanks, Paul

    While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use Boot Camp. There's a Boot Camp Support Community where everybody uses Boot Camp. You should also post this question there.

  • Windows Vista and Windows 7 Only Boots to a black screen with a mouse cursor

    Windows Vista and Windows 7 Only Boots to  a black screen with a mouse cursor after I installed Mcafee Internet Security.
    Hi I installed 1of 3 McAfee Internet Security protections on my HP laptop a few weeks ago with no issues. I Have a Dell XPS 420 desk top with Windows Vista operating
    system, it’s never had any issues, until 2 nights ago I installed McAfee Internet Security (detected incompatible files and will remove) pc now only boots up to a black screen with a mouse cursor, it will show the windows logo and a hash symbol floating around
    the screen. Now 2 weeks ago I installed the same program on my Dell all in one desk top with Windows 7, the same issue happen but that pc has no screen activity, I tried a back to factory reboot on this one, still black screen.

    Hi,
    Please install the compatible version of McAfee Internet Security:
    http://home.mcafee.com/store/internet-security
    if you have startup issue, you can boot into Safe Mode to uninstall the problematic software to go back into Windows.

  • Boot Camp safe to use with Time Machine?

    Is Boot Camp safe to use with Time Machine? I will be installing Windows on a partition and using an external hard drive to back up. I only want the Mac partition to be backed up, though, since Windows will just be used for applications which I can reinstall if my machine messes up.

    Yes, this is perfectly safe. Time Machine won't backup the Bootcamp Windows partition.

  • Satellite Pro M10 will not boot again and comes up with the error message

    My Toshiba Satellite Pro M10 notebook will not boot again and comes up with the error message "load error" when I push the power button.
    The problem arised after installation of "symantec system works" and trying to restart windows XP professional to make the installed program executable.
    What can I do to get the notbook restart again?

    Hi everyone
    If you cannot acces to the boot menu by pressing F8 you can try to recover the the master boot record from Windows Xp professional installation Cd, to do this:
    Attention: don't run these commands if you have more than one operating systems running in your laptop.
    Boot from Windows Xp installation cd
    Choose repair installation from console by pressing "C" key.
    A console will open asking you for administrator password, insert the password and press enter.
    Run de command: FIXMBR (It will write a new boot record)
    Run de command: FIXBOOT (It will write a new boot file)
    Restart the laptop and now windows should start without problems.

  • I can't boot from the windows cd with boot camp

    I got Vista up and running via boot camp but now I have a problem that could cause some issues. How the **** do you boot from a windows cd with boot camp!?!? When I stick in the windows based CD (could be the vista install CD -after vista's been installed of course- or a Windows home server restore cd) and hold down the option key I chose to boot from the CD in the menu then the screen goes black as it should and then it says press any key to boot from cd or dvd..... It gives me 5 seconds to press a key and then it conintues to boot into Vista. The thing is when it asks me to press any key I press any and all keys on the keyboard and I get no response and it just boots into vista. This can be quite a problem, what if I need to restore vista via the install CD? I can't chose to boot from it cause everytime it asks me to none of my key presses register. So everytime I have a problem I won't be able to restore or even diagnose it, I'll just have to reinstall vista? I don't think I can even bring up the safe mode or anything like this. The keyboard won't work until I reach the password screen of Vista. I've also tried plugging in a USB keyboard to it and it still doesn't work. So basically I need to know how to make the keyboard work before Vista loads.

    Ok, well I just tried booting from the windows cd and it seems that I lied to ya It seems that you can boot from it. Although I only took it to the point I was comfortable with. The boot resulted in it asking me to install windows and I didn't see any partitions listed or anything, so I chickened out (so to speak) not wanting to take the chance of my Leopard installation getting screwed up.
    It's been a quite some time since I used the Vista boot disc and can't really remember how it went when I used it in conjunction with boot camp beta. Sorry can't give you anymore information.

  • Can I create a boot drive for a G4 with a MacPro ?

    Hi everybody,
    Beside rebuilding my MacPro whcich I am in the process of doing (see my previous post), I am trying to rebuild my old Power Pc Quick Silver G4 the way it was before a HD started to fail me.
    Is it possible to Clone a PATA internal HD with the extra spot in the 2nd bay of the Optical drive carrier in the MacPro to clone it via External FireWire HD and then reinstall the internal PATA HD back into the G4 Quick Silver ?
    I tried Swithing the PATA drive in the G4 but it is too large to be recognized as a main HD.
    At the moment the G4 has a 40 GB main drive and a 160 GB (140 GB recognized) as a "Slave".
    I need to Clone the 80 GB Slave that used to be in the G4 and install it into the 160 GB and wanted to use the MacPro to do so....is it possible ?

    No. The MP is an Intel machine not a PPC machine. You cannot boot a PPC Mac from an Intel system or vice versa, and you cannot boot a PPC installer on an Intel Mac. The Leopard installer DVD will not install a PPC system if you boot in an Intel system.
    You have to boot the PPC Mac directly with the Leopard installer disc in order to install OS X in the G4 (or an earlier version of OS X.)
    The old G4s did not use SATA drives so they will not install in the MP nor will a drive from the MP install in the G4, so swapping drives is not possible.

    After Security updation of Windows 7 in Boot Camp (Mac Book Pro with Retina Display) on 13-Nov-2013, Windows 7 Desktop Gadgets are not working properly.
    This is boot camp problem, because in other normal notebooks (e.g. SONY VAIO, Lenovo with Windows 7) the gadgets are working normally.
    I am attaching the screen shot of Desktop Gadgets and Security updates of Windows 7.
    Kindly solve this issue ASAP.

    Have you reinstalled the latest Boot Camp Windows 7 drivers, just in case Microsoft overwrote some of them during the Windows 7 security update?
