Boot Attempt fails (set low stack and boot via INT 19h)

Ok, I have had my computer running and very stable in windows, one day I was doing some benchmarks  between ram in running   dfferent timmings and speeds of the ram.  I went back in the bios and changed the settings back to auto(which I have been running very stable in), It rebooted, the it froze during post, where it has that pill. So I thought I should clear the cmos, so I put the jumpers on 2,3,
waited a min. then put  it back on 1,2 , rebooted, and still frozed, and still want able to get into the bios!
So, I put the d-bracket in and has now the
RG
GG
Which is boot  attempt,
So I unplugged eveything, the Proc juice, Mobo, sata, all the good stuff.
And took out the battery.
I left it out for over a 24hr period.
So today I cameback and still get the same signal.
What do I do now?
PSU INFO http://www.cleverpower.com/doc/SPS-400%20400W.pdf

Hmm..
It don't sound happy.
Usually changing to another Ram stick clears the 'jam', where it has frozen with timings that are then 'stuck'. Anything differant happen with the other stick, like beeps?
The only other thing that has been known to work is to remove the vid card, leave for 5 mins, and replace, along with the differant Ram stick. Even better if you have a PCI vid card, and leave the AGP one out.
What happens with the bios floppy in A:  holding down ctrl + home as it boots, re  initialises the bios, and flashes it again.
Is the bios chip soldered in, or is it a pushfit one.
cheers

  • MSI KT6 Delta-FISR - D-Link diags "Boot attempt" failing

    Hi,
I need some inspiration for this problem.
My sister's machine has been running fine (ish) for about 5 months. The sound has been "playing up" recently, sounding like it's stuttering. Anyway, that's not why I'm here.
At the moment, the machine won't boot up at all. I had it booted up today, and it was working OK, then it froze (sister complained that it froze yesterday as well).
On reboot, all I'm getting is the Xtreme main screen, then nothing else. The D-Link diags are showing 1 RED, 2,3,4 green which is
"Boot Attempt- This will set low stack and boot via INT 19h". It does nothing else.
I can't get into the BIOS, not can I boot from floppy. Doesn't matter if the HD is connected or not, it still fails at the same point.
I've stripped the machine back to the basics, so only have 1 CD-ROM, 1 HD, 1 stick of ram, floppy drive, graphics card.
I've swapped the graphics card .. same problem.
dropped the ram from 2 to 1 stick and switched sockets ... same problem
Swapped the PSU .... same problem
Is the Motherboard knackered ?  Anyone got any more suggestions ??????
    Thanks.

  • OSD: What is the difference booting into winpe from pxe/media and booting in winpe from OS/Vista?

    Hi,
We have a task sequence issue. Please see
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/56d783e3-214d-4027-84c1-c03cdf2013f1/osd-convert-boot-to-logical-path-failed-0x80070490-retrying-after-attempt-29-it-fails-and-says?forum=configmanagersecurity
for more info. What I would like to know: what is the difference/is there a difference between:
A.booting in PXE/bootable media to WINPE
B.booting from OS (Vista) into WINPE => will this load the x86 boot image (it doesn’t look like it, I CAN see the image loaded ….wim is exactly the same when loaded from OS)
The reason why I ask this: see link above: loading TS from PXE/media works fine, when choosing the exact same TS from WITHIN OS (Vista, 32 bit) the TS fails.
Note: we set the ts step format system disk to NOT run if _SMSTSMediaType is OEMMedia (set in order to not format if prestaged media). So if for some reason this variable would be set booting TS from OS?
    Please advise.
    J.
    Jan Hoedt

What I would like to know: what is the difference/is there a difference between:
    There is none.
Starting a TS using Software Center will download the boot image that's assigned to the task sequence.
PXE (depending on how many boot images are available on the PXE-enabled DP): the TS will use the boot image that's assigned to the task sequence (it will download that one and reboot into PE for a second time if the first boot image (see smspxe.log) does not
    match).
P.S. Please don't post another question for the exact same topic. Thanks.

    Hi there,
for a reasearch project we are trying to use 2 CAN volume flow sensors (http://www.hydrotechnik.com/english/QT106_DSEN.pdf) . To use them in our CAN network I first have to configure the node-id and baudrate of each one. The manufacturer told me to do this via Layer Setting Service (LSS). (How) Can i do that using Labview?
I can use one of the following NI CAN Cards: NI PCI-CAN/2 and NI-PCI-8512 .
    Thanks for any hints.

  • Set Form Value and Submit Via Applet

    Hi Friends,
suppose you have a form such as:
    <form action="submit.jsp" method="post" name = emailForm>
    <input type="text" name="emailField" size = 43>
</form>And an applet appears on the same JSP page that the form resides.
This applet is a simple one that takes email addresses and validates them and on clicking on a button labelled submit, the applet is to set the text field of the form to the email address provided and then submit the form. How can I achieve this?
    Thanks and regards.

  • 8820 - can't set up email and web via for local wi-fi use only

I purchased an 8820 from Circuit City about 3 months ago. This was an unlocked phone for use on the AT&T network. I did not want to purchase an data contract with AT&T, I only use AT&T for the phone number and text service. I would like to use the 8820 for email at home (gmail
acct) on my wi-fi network, and also for the internet at home on my wi-fi network.
When I try to set up my email on the blackberry the only option is "I want to use a work email account with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server". There is no home email setup.
Also, the browser won't connect even though I have my wi-fi set up at home. Is it possible to set up my gmail and internet without going through AT&T?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
To use the BB PUSH email, you must subscribe to an adequate data plan. See this FAQ for general guidelines:
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/What_do_I_need_a_Data_Plan_for%3F
You might be able to use the HotSpot browser to browse via your home WiFi...or you might have to get a separate browser (Bolt, Opera, etc.) that does not depend on BIS. Without a data plan, you will be limited to only web-based services...you will not be able to use any of the proprietary BB services (as per the above FAQ).

  • Windows 8 and ArchLinux dual-boot - Failed to open file: arch\boot\...

    Hey!
I have a problem where I don't know how to configure the EFISTUB to boot ArchLinux along Windows 8. I have read the instructions on the wiki and tried for two days and the only thing I've come up with is copying some files into the /boot/efi/EFI/arch/ folder, and adding the entry into the UEFI boot menu. I can select it when Restarting Windows8 through the shift-restart thing and stuff but when it attempts to boot it says:
    Failed to open file: arch\boot\archiso.img
I don't know how to set this up and fix it. I am so confused with everything right now due to the instructions on the wiki basically being "You can either do it this way, that way or any other way." but does not specifically expain how each works (at least so that I understand it fully) and what has to be done to complete these steps. Like, I need a complete tutorial from Start to Finish, to do this because I'm too nervous messing up my partitions. I have understood some parts thought and what I want is to be able to boot it from the EFISTUB instead of chain-booting like I usually do. I just don't know how to connect the entry in the list to the proper files to boot the system.
    What I have done:
    Installed the base system.
Istalled grub in the base system but has not used grub to install on the /boot yet because I don't know if it is to be used if I'm supposed to use the EFISTUB (I was thinking efibootmgr would be enough)
Tried to use efibootmgr to make the entry, but the entry does not work. (If this is how I should do it, can you explain which partition to target and what the different values would mean when answering?)
I don't know which one is right, or if both shall be done (I guess Grub is used if I want to chain-load. I guess I can do it if it's the only way)
Anyway, I hope you guys can answer me so I can fix this. Thanks

What you're trying to do now is:
    EFI->kernel (EFI stub)
This is appealingly direct, but it's tricky to get working. What the wiki now recommends is:
    EFI->gummiboot->kernel (EFI stub)
    ...or...
    EFI->GRUB->kernel
These approaches are less direct, but they're easier to configure. The trouble is that both the EFI's built-in boot manager and the EFI stub loader are tricky to configure. For a newbie to get them both configured correctly on a first attempt at installing Arch is very difficult. Getting the EFI to launch gummiboot or GRUB is easier because these programs don't require the complex parameters that the EFI stub loader requires. Those parameters can instead be specified in the gummiboot or GRUB configuration file, which is easier to manage for quite a few reasons.
If you want to pursue using the EFI stub loader directly, you certainly can. I've learned from experience, though, that it's not worth my time to try to help with users who want to do this. Using an intermediary program is easier to get working. IMHO, the direct approach has no real benefits except that it gives you bragging rights that you've done it. Your system won't boot any faster or more reliably in the more direct approach. (Well, technically it will be faster, by only by a matter of milliseconds, assuming you use a 0 timeout value in gummiboot.) In fact, it will be less reliable, because gummiboot, GRUB, and rEFInd all offer ways to adjust boot options on a boot-by-boot basis, which is very helpful when fixing problems. You can't do this with the direct approach.

  • PBG4 will not boot up- many attempted/failed solutions!

I'll preface this with my computers background: It is a 4.5 year old PBG4 running OSX. I used it in school for various projects, photoshop, illustrator, etc. For the past year or so it has basically been used for photos, internet, and basic nothings. I had trouble with the start up a while back and ever since I get really nervous turning it off so I rarely do.
Tonight, I was closing down my windows and one folder window would not close. I left it for quite a while and it was stuck. So I forced it down and attempted to re-start. That was 4 hours ago. Still no start up Earlier in the evening I noticed another strange and possible related error. When my power cord would loosen up the power would drain down to 30 or so minutes and the screen would go black. If I wiggled the cord and touched the mouse pad it would come back on. This has never happen before.
So I've been on this computer researching possible resolutions. I've tried to start on safe mode (holding down Shift), I've tried control + s, control + v, I have also done optioncommand+pr to reset the pram. I have booted off of the install disk and ran the quick hardware check with no problems found and then restarted. I am currently running the extended hardware test (and going to bed). I have tried to boot off of the start up disk but it only takes me to the install window and this is where I have stopped. I've searched around and haven't found an answer as to what installing OSx will do. Will it erase what I have saved and start clean?
I was ironically browsing Black Friday adds just a few hours before this happened and thinking maybe I should get an external hard drive to back my saved .docs, photos, old projects on just incase something like this were to happen!
Oh and a visual of what is happening-- I press power hear a chime with a black screen, a few seconds and the fans start up and the screen turns grey. If I wait a minute or so the screen goes black again and then returns to the grey screen. A few more seconds go by and the broken folder and question mark start to flash. If I have the install disk in and wait another minute or so it will finally catch the disk and start to read it. When I power it down I hold the power button for 10 seconds (I read to do that somewhere tonight) and I even tried to hold it down while starting it which causes it to make an unpleasant loud beep.
I hope someone out there can help with the information I have provided. I should also say (from reading other posts) that this is the correct start up disk. I only have one Mac so no disks to get confused with and I bought it directly from Mac- I am the first and only user/owner of this PBG4.
Lastly, I should mention that I have no idea what any of the above tricks, solutions, or methods mean- I simply followed directions for my symptoms.
    Thanks!

Hi, Andrea. The fact that you can start your computer up from an installer disc, run the Apple Hardware Test, and access the Installer (which also means you can access Disk Utility on the installer disc) all indicates that your computer is fundamentally sound, though your hard drive may not be.
Start up from your OSX 10.5 installer DVD — not the one that originally came with your Powerbook, because that contains an older OS version — and choose Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. In the left pane of the DU window, select your hard drive mechanism: the line that shows the drive manufacturer's name and model number. Click the First Aid tab in the right pane of DU's window, and check the drive's SMART status, reported near the bottom of the window.
If SMART status is "Failing," you'll need to replace the hard drive, and after doing so you'll want to see whether your data can be recovered from the old one. Post back for further advice if the drive is reported to be failing.
If SMART status is "Verified," the drive hardware is probably OK, and only its directory needs to be unscrambled. Click the Repair Disk button near the bottom of the Disk Utility window, and wait for the repair process to be carried out. If any problems are reported to have been found and repaired, run the Repair Disk routine repeatedly until no more problems are reported. Then quit Disk Utility and the Installer. Your computer should restart. Immediately hold down the trackpad button while it is restarting, and keep holding it down until the installer DVD pops out of the drive. The computer should start up normally from its hard drive.
Let us know how you fare.

  • Snow Leopard - very slow restart / reboot and Boot Camp restart fail

    Hi
After Snow Leopard installation on my Macbook Pro I have a very slow restart. I logged this immediately after install and waited till 10.6.1 was issued and installed but still have the same problems. Hope some one can help.
For an normal restart or reboot I have the grey screen for about 25 secs and then the blue screen hangs for about 2 mins 30 secs before loading desktop. This is longer than Leopard and clearly not what Snow Leopard is meant to be. I have installed on an iMac as well and can see the new normal fast boot.
I also have Windows on it's own partition and use in Boot Camp. I have used this successfully under Leopard.
When I restart from Windows using the Start button and restart, Windows shuts down and then the mac starts up but gets stuck indefinitely on the blue screen. I have waited up to 25 mins then forced a shut down.
However if I restart from Windows using the Boot Camp icon in the taskbar and choose the restart from MacOSX it shuts down windows and restarts the mac in record time!! about 25 secs grey screen and 25 secs blue screen. I can't get this in normal mac mode! - Bizarre.
I have run Disk Utility, repaired permissions, run Tech Tool, Onyx, reset PRAM, deleted startup items plists and removed startup items from System Preferences Account.
I have monitored the Console app for all the startup conditions noted above and will post below. In the logs of the normal mac reboot you can see something to do with Security Agent taking over 2 mins to load. Maybe that is a clue, but I don't understand these messages. Please note that the iStatsmenu app was installed after snow leopard and I had these slow startups before it's installation.
If anyone technical can understand what the **** is going on here I would really appreciate your feedback.
    Regards
    Eric

    Hi guys
Thanks for your contributions. I have made little progress on this issue since posting.
Just as added info, I did a re-install of Snow leopard from install DVD and upgrade again to 10.6.1 and no change to the startup behaviours. Same pattern as before, although the first restart was fast and probably how it is meant to be, then the slow ones reappeared.
I also had a thought that somehow it may be related to the nominated startup disk. There were posts on other boards about similar issues with Leopard where the hanging start was found to be related to the computer not knowing which startup disk to use. I thought maybe as it works when using the boot camp icon from Windows but not the restart button, it may be related, but in OSX and Windows both are set to startup in OSX on HD. So no further joy.
Maybe someone else will come along who can understand the Console logs. Why does the loginwindow and Security Agent take so long?
Do you guys have any clues from your Console system logs? Does yours hang on loginwindow?
The fact that there are so few people with the same problem suggests to me that there is a third party device/preference/ hidden file somewhere that is having an effect and it's not an Apple issue.
I am getting close to wiping the hard drive and starting again....but live in hope.
    Cheers

  • MacBook Pro failing to boot up despite disk utility repair and PRAM

Problem: MBP frozen on boot up screen with Apple logo and turning gear (which freezes after a while aswell)
Solutions attempted: disk repair via custom recovery- disk utility, PRAM
Device: MacBook Pro 15" (early 2010) running 10.9
    Additional info-
Never had any issue with the device and this seems to have happened all of a sudden. Installed an SSD a few months ago, and just realised the ssd did not have a recovery partition. However I connected my older hardrive via USB to access recovery which seemed to work fine.
NOTE: for the past few weeks, every now and then I was unable to power the device off and whenever this occurred, there seemed to be a few bugs (ie unable to empty thrash-error 50 and enable to increase/decrease volume/screen brightness). However, holding the power button and restarting it seemed to have fixed it.
Had the same issue but this time around MBP failed to boot up.
    Any possible suggestions?

    Ranban wrote:
Are you suggesting reinstalling the os?
    No.
Furthermore, is there a way to keep the data intact using this method? Or retrieve it at the least?
Repairing a disk should have no affect on the data, nor would an OSX installation.  However if the data has value, there always should be a backup, preferably two.
In your original post you said "attempted: disk repair via custom recovery- disk utility".  The term 'custom recovery' to me is alien and thus confusing.
What I am suggesting is a repair of the HDD using the original installation disk, not an OSX installation.
You insert the disk holding down the C key at startup.  Proceed with the process until you see on the top of the display a menu bar.  Select UTILITIES and from the drop down menu select Disk Utility.  Then select Disk Utility>First Aid and then run Verify and repair.  Exit from the installation process.
That way I know that the attempted repair was properly executed.  You may have in essence done that, but there is an element of doubt in my mind.
    Ciao.
