Boot Camp 2.0 install error
Hello,
I have been running BC 1.3b and have finally gotten around to upgrading to 2.0. When I try to install in XP the installer eventually errors out with a generic error message. If I run the msi in verbose, the following error dumps into the log:

The same methods you used to get 1.4 are needed to get BC2.02, which is an intermediate step from 2.0 to 2.1.
If you read my other posts on this board, you will see how to get it. I won't be very specific, just as you are being vague about 1.4
I could not install BC2.1 for my Vista 64-bit until I first installed BC2.02.
There are two .msi files in the BC2.02 package. One for 32-bit, one for 64-bit.
Apple must be aware of the issue with BC2.1 since they pulled the 64-bit version.
From your posts, I am sure you will find out what to do. Post back

I am getting the error:
"The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Jounraled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows."
I read up some on google, but all of them says that they have crated a partition and that is the problem, I only have the standard "Macintosh HD".
I tried to create a partition manually in disk utility but then the error message: "Partition failed with error message: Could not unmount disk."
Can anyone help me? It's driving me crazy.

Is it so hard to follow through? you were to have backup already, clones are best, then erase/format and restore.
Then partition.
Some have been able to use Disk Utility booted from OS X DVD or another drive, and repair the drive.
You have to use Boot Camp Assistant (99.9% anyway) to create and achieve a proper Windows Master Boot Record partition. -

Boot Camp users using XP via Boot Camp - Can you install Open Type Fonts?
Have any of the Boot Camp 2.1 users that have been using Windows XP via Boot Camp been able to install Open Type Fonts, i.e. fonts that are sold by Adobe?
I have now tried this on two new MacBook Pros, and I have tried three different retail versions of Windows XP on each system. It just does not work.
I keep getting the "Unable to Install Font" message, which suggests that I contact the font vendor, which I have. I have also tried many different versions of different fonts.
After having investigated with Adobe and Microsoft, and after having reinstalled Windows over 6 times on two different new MacBook Pros, I am starting to believe that this issue affects all new MacBook Pros and/or Boot Camp 2.1 users.
For some points, could someone please try to install an Open Type Font in Windows XP, and let me know if you are successful?

Tried 2 different scenarios. Installed Windows XP, Boot Camp Drivers, Open Type Fonts. Received an not a valid font file when trying to install. Installed Windows XP and then the Open Type Fonts. All fonts registered and accessed by the operating system without the Boot Camp Drivers. Installed the Boot Camp Drivers and checked the fonts, received error messages accessing fonts.
Pretty sure its the Boot Camp Drivers that are causing the problems with Windows and the fonts. Hopefully there is an updat to address this issue. -
2007 MBP 10.7.2 - Boot Camp "Can't Install Windows Support Software"
For a few weeks now I've been trying to get Boot Camp going to install Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro. Whenever I go through the assistant, I always get the message "Can't install Windows Support Software becuase it is not currently available from the Software Update server".
The download bar does progress a bit as data is being downloaded, but then stops at about 15% and gives me that error message. Any ideas?From what I've read the "Download Update" option as you install Lion only works for some MBAirs and it's a hit or miss on all others. (mostly a miss).
You might do a Search on the error you get as there are quite a few discussions on those problems. -

i have an iMac with mountain lion 10.8.3 with boot camp 5.0.2 .i installed windows 7 -64 bit with boot camp but the boot camp didn't install drivers for windows please guide me for trouble shooting .

You don't even need to do that. As downloading the drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant can be unreliable, it is better to get the package directly from here:

Copy the .zip file to a USB flash drive or burn it to a DVD in OS X. Install Windows as normal, insert the flash drive/DVD in Windows, copy the .zip file to the hard drive, extract it, then run the setup executable. -

I am assuming that smething changed but there are I presume a number of other people who have, and folks with new MacBook Air too. -

Again, no. Boot Camp drivers are NOT available for download. They are only on the OSX disks. (Only the updates are downloadable, not the base Boot Camp drivers.) There is no other way.
As I mentioned previously, you can borrow the disk from someone else. It doesn't have to be the same model, so long as it's Snow Leopard. (AFAIK, Boot Camp 3 drivers are only available on Snow Leopard disks.)
Either you need to find your disks, borrow some one else's, or buy another copy of OSX...period.

One major thing is that since installing Win 7 using BC, my Mac side has become significantly slower. Searching for anything now takes up to 1 min while it was instantaneous before. Opening new programs or new tabs in Safari also caused slight delay. Is this to be expected while having 2 OS?
Boot Camp will not affect OSX, unless you are took up too much space for Windows and didn't leave much for OSX. You should have at least 10% free space on the OSX partition. Anything less can cause OSX to run slow. (Same for the Windows partition: have at least 10% free space.) -

For those of you having problems installing Windows XP in Boot Camp because of the formatting screen never showing up and then the system restarting with the dreaded:

I too spent many frustrating hours trying to find a solution that worked. I searched these threads, tried many of the solutions suggested here and elsewhere, including recreating the Windows CD without a specific file, using the FreeDOS boot CD (couldn't ever get it to work, though I understand some people have had success), Reinstalling Leopard and trying again, dancing around the laptop with incense three times counter clockwise while chanting the name of my childhood pet... etc.
I FOUND A NEW SOLUTION!!!! A much easier solution!!!!
For anyone who is having this problem and is planning to run virtualization software.
(Something that let's you run Windows from inside Leopard)
SKIP BOOT CAMP ALTOGETHER!!!
USE VMware Fusion to install Windows.
I decided to try a different approach entirely and did a completely fresh install of Leopard (not sure if that was necessary or not but with everything else I had been trying I wanted to clean it up anyhow) and then installed the 30 day trial version of Fusion w/ the unlock key VMware emailed me.
I entered my information and Windows product key into Fusion's "Easy Install" Interface, clicked install, and about 30 minutes later I was browsing around in XP.
I HIGHLY recommend this option for anyone having difficulty with the formatting screen not showing up. I have a Bachelors Degree in Information Systems and still spent the better part of 2 days working on this boot camp problem, including numerous hours with the higher tier of apple's tech support. I suspect that those of us having this problem may have an OEM or systembuilder copy of XP... but that is for Apple to deal with - not me, I have better things to do with my time.
If you are planning to run Windows from within Leopard anyhow, just buy Fusion and to **** with the hassle.
You can go to VMware's website and get a 30 day evaluation copy to see if this will work for you before you decide if you want to purchase it, they will email you the unlock key.
Best of luck, hope this saves someone some time!For what it's worth, I've used the OEM version (copper disk), Select version (bulk license), and an NFR (partner program) version of XP Pro with SP2 and they all worked. On my MacBook Pro's I use boot camp to split the disk in two, reboot using the Windows CD, and pick the partition to format it.
Apple states that you need a full version of Windows, and the OEM versions are slightly different from the commercial versions, but both should work. On my Mac Pro, I created a 3-disk OS X RAID-0, and left the 4th disk alone. I rebooted with the Windows CD and installed Windows to the 4th disk without Bootcamp at all. Once Windows was installed, I used the Leopard disk to install the Bootcamp drivers. The Mac side has no Bootcamp installation but I can still choose between the volumes by holding down the option key at boot time or by setting the startup volume in the OS X Startup disk preference pane.
The solution to use virtualization, unfortunately, will not work for many situations where graphics are involved. Most current major products, such as AutoCAD, 3dsMax, and so forth, will not run properly or at all without specific DirectX 9 or OpenGL support. To date both Parallels and VMWare do not completely support DirectX or OpenGL. -
I use a Macbook Pro 13" mid 2010 on Mavericks and I've tried using the Boot Camp assistant to download support software for Windows 7. This gives the error "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."
Further, I tried to separately download Boot Camp 4 and 5. When I do this and try to install from Windows 7, it says that this version of Boot Camp is not for this computer and doesn't install. The result is that I have Windows 7 working and installed, but am unable to use the trackpad to rightclick, brightness settings, etc.

ThanksYou need to run Bootcamp Assistant and select only the menu item to download the Windows Support Software. Follow the instructions. The download servers are extremely slow therefore it may take several hours to get the download.

Boot Camp 2.1 Update: Error, would not install
I tried to update my Boot Camp to 2.1.
The reasoning being, that my dimmer button, my volume button, etc does not work on my Windows Vista Ultimate Side.
Other short cut keys worked (i tried): ie: Print screen via 'fn'altF11, etc
However, when I installed it, the following message appeared.
"the installer encountered errors before Boot Camp could be configured.
To retry these operations at a later time, please run th installer again.
Click Finish to exit the installer."
How can I install the Boot Camp 2.1 updater?

run chkdsk for starters. you may want to dabble even more with msconfig and look at your logs, see if there are errors, what startup items and services are running.
I could not install BC 2.1 64-bit even though I have 64-bi9t OS and hardware, maybe because older Mac Pro has 32-bit EFI.
I'd look at uninstalling and reinstalling BC 2.0 and leave well enough alone and focus on just the small issues for now.
Oh, and WinClone is another method and free for backing up NTFS partitions from within OS X worth looking into.
I have not read of the error you got, off hand, that I recall reading.
I really think we need a BC 2.2 at this point in time. -
Boot Camp: Windows: "No Disk" error
I've been looking around all over for topics based on the Disk Error when installing windows xp. Basically the issue is that when my windows installation starts, I get no option to repartition the C:/ partition that Boot Camp creates. This causes my installation to successfully copy the files to the partition but when it restarts I get the Disk Error and can not do anything other than reboot.
I need to know exactly how to get the windows installation to allow me to repartition the the partition that boot camp creates, otherwise I don't see any way that I would be able to install windows xp pro.I had the same problem and found couple solutions ON THIS FORUM!
