Boot Camp 4.0 - Atikmdag.sys crash
Hi all,
I've got a BIG problem with Boot Camp 4.0 ATI driver.
I use a mac mini mid-2011 plugged to a Iiyama PLB2403WS monitor with a HDMI cable. That screen can display 1920x1200 mode.
When I boot the system on Mac OS X Lion, it works perfectly.
After using Boot Camp 4.0 to install Windows 7, the first boot worked well. I had no Aero effects.
But, when I installed Boot Camp Windows support drivers, it did not work anymore.
ATI drivers are guilty because it makes Windows 7 crash at each startup.
I get the famous BSOD displaying the filename Atikmdag.sys with error "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA".
I guess Apple and AMD must fix the ATI driver for the graphic chip "AMD Radeon 6630M".
When i plug the mac mini on my Samsung HDMI TV, it works great, Windows starts without crashing and i get the Aero effects.
And then when i plug it back to the Iiyama monitor, Windows crashes.
It's confusing and frustrating as I'm not willing to use my TV as the mac mini's monitor display.
Is there any way to make Apple or AMD fix that ?
Or has anyone of you succeeded in using same hardware than me ?
Thanks for your help !
Well I found out by my own a way to overcome this problem
Here is the process to do under windows 7:
1. Install Bootcamp drivers
2. Windows 7 restarts the computer
3. Blue Screen Of Death and the computer automatically restarts...
4. At the restart, press and hold ALT key for boot selection. Choose Windows and then press F8 and then choose Safe Mode with Network activated
5. Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers and rename atikmdag.sys to atikmdag.sys.old
6. Download latest AMD Radeon Mobility driver for the graphic card (mine is AMD Radeon 6xxxM series)
7. Install the driver
8. Restart the computer
9. Optional : delete file C:\Windows\System32\drivers\atikmdag.sys.old
It works ! You get the Aero effects, no more crash.
My mistake was uninstalling bootcamp's graphical driver beforetrying to install AMD's official drivers (that couldn't detect/recognize the hardware).
But if you don't uninstall bootcamp's graphics drivers, then use the official and latest AMD driver it detects the hardware and you can install the up-to-date driver that works.

Boot Camp 2.0 Blue Screen crash, bcmwl5.sys
My system info:
MacBookPro5,2 with OS X 10.5.8
BootCamp 2.0 with WinXP 32-bit SP2
Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x8D)
Wireless Card Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.91.22)
Device ID: 432B
(I believe part # is BCM4322)
Cisco Linksys E2500 rounter (got latest firmware)
I have been getting blue screen alot while I am playing video game by using wireless. If I use ethernet cable, there is no problem at all.
Once I restart no problem at all, but it will happen again after a few hours.
One thing when I start window, it does say found new hardware and ask me for driver for Broadcom adapter. It does have one already but I don't know why it asks me again.
Blue Screen error : bcmwl5.sys
SO my question is ...
How do i fix it? I want to use wireless.
If it is as simple as update driver, where can I download it.
ThanksYou should probably post your question in the Boot Camp forums:

Vista 64: boot camp 3.2/3.1 crashes
Hi,
i tried to install the 3.2 update of 64bit boot camp 3.2.
Right after double clicking the exe a windows msg pops up saying: "installationprogram of apple boot camp update doesn´t work anymore" (translation from german!).
I also tried to run the update from "apple software update" - same result.
My vista 64 home premium is up to date.
Do you have any suggestions/hints for me?
Thx
Chris
PS: I also tried to reinstall boot camp 3.1 - same thing.

Problem running BCUpdate.exe (boot camp 2.1 update)
Just bought a new iMac 20", upgraded from OSX 10.5.4 to 10.5.6 (plus all other s/w upgrades), ran Boot Camp, made a 50GB Windows NTFS partition, installed Win/XP SP3 from the Windows DVD. Booted into WIndows. So far so good.
Under vanilla Windows, I stuck in the Leopard Install DVD and autoran the Boot Camp drivers install. It crashed half-way through with the blue screen of death (flashed up for only 1 sec), and then the machine automatically rebooted. Now it will no longer boot normally into Windows, it gets halfway and then repeats the crash & reboot scenario over & over.
So, I reinstalled all of Windows (again!), but instead of using the Leopard Install DVD, I tried to run the Boot Camp 2.1 Update package, BCUpdate.exe. However, when I double click on the package in Windows, nothing happens. I right-click -> Open, and it doesn't run. Run as... Administrator, it doesn't run. Safe Mode won't let me run it either. The checksum of the file is correct. I don't get it.
What am I doing wrong???Hmm, for that to work, I would need hardwired Internet access. All I have is wireless, but Windows doesn't see the Broadcom card, so I can't go the online Apple S/W update route.
So, I'm still stuck. Maybe there's some way I can make an autorun CD or something out of the BCUpdate.exe file...? -
Hi!
I've got a new 27" iMac (late 2013), and I was going to install Windows 8.1 (64-bit) to be able to play a few games.
Everything went smoothly (installed normally via Boot Camp Assistant), and after the Windows setup, the Boot Camp drivers needed to be installed. After this, the computer rebooted, but crashed at a blue screen with the error called "kernel_security_check_failure".
It rebooted a few times on its own, but after a few times, I got some options, and I chose to "refresh" the Windows 8 install, meaning it would reset the install while keeping my files (even though I didn't have any, as I never got to use it). This took some time, but it worked, and it booted into W8.
The Boot Camp drivers had been removed though, so I had to reinstall them. After they had reinstalled, the computer rebooted and the same blue screen with the same error hit me.
Something tells me that some of the BC drivers are messing things up. I can't find any information on this elsewhere.
Would it be possible to install only selected drivers, to eventually find out which driver is causing the problem?
All help is greatly appreciated!I finally gave up, reloaded everything, this time, using WIn 8.1 Pro, not Enterprise. After I did the updates, patches, Norton 360, shut computer down and connected the external drives, and booted up...and got the BSOD. This time, I went to Microsoft and downloaded the Windows Debugger, and think I may have found the problem...NORTON!
Probably caused by : SYMDS64.SYS ( SYMDS64+71be6 )

Boot Camp Crash - 32GB missing
Greetings,
I ran Boot Camp to install Vista. I got the the partition page, selected 32GB for the Windows partition. While the program was partitioning the drive, the OS crashed so I had to power down the computer. When I rebooted and ran Boot Camp again, I noticed 32GB missing from the main hard drive, yet no partition was made. Disk Utilities shows only the Mac partition.
I am running OS X 10.5.2. Any ideas on how I can get my missing 32 GB back?Ricky Murphy wrote:
I was able to recover my space running disk repair via the Leopard DVD.
However, every time I run Boot Camp assistant, it freezes while partitioning. The screen goes grey and I get the message that says I need to hold down the power button to turn off the computer. This happens every time.
Why is this?
Well at least you have an OS back
You may still need to reconstruct your HD by cloning, erasing and cloning back. It could be a corrupt BCAsst.app or some corruption on your HD that DU cannot repair.
Performing a terminal operation from your DVD may help, but be sure you have a cloned backup.
The operation is
fsck_hfs
and this may help
In a terminal, run
man fsck_hfs
and you will get this, and more:
NAME
fsck_hfs -- HFS file system consistency check
SYNOPSIS
fsck_hfs -q [-df] special ...
fsck_hfs -p [-df] special ...
fsck_hfs [-n | -y | -r] [-dfgl] [-m mode] [-c size] special ...
DESCRIPTION
The fsck_hfs utility verifies and repairs standard HFS and HFS+ file sys-
tems.
Read it carefully and then run it from your DVD or in a single user mode.
Again, do NOT do this without a backup. -
I need to know which update(s) I can apply to help stabalize the system.
Typing the body of the thread message in the title, huh? -)
I am working on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009) with boot camp running Windows 7 pro 64-bit. Windows crashes quite often now-a-days and I need to get this fixed. I heard that updating boot camp can help. Currently I am running Version 3.0.4 (322).
Only Apple could hamstring and tie Mac OS to Windows. There isn't any other than whether you can download the drivers into Windows (you can) but Apple puts a block on the installer setup even if your mac does not support it.
Windows 7 needs at least Boot Camp 3.1 and 3.3 is what you should already have. And you are not getting security updates if you don't have at least 10.6.8 as was pointed out. --- you arent using Software Update as you should. And you should backup and clone Mac (and Windows) as well.
You need Mountain Lion to use Boot Camp 5.x which supports Windows 7 & 8 and 64-bit.
I would upgrade to Lion if you can realizing that Rosetta and PowerPC are no longer supported though.

Is there a download of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software if I'm not using OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3?
Yes, you can download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software here.
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
How do I use the Boot Camp 5 Support Software I downloaded from the web page?
The download file is a .zip file. Double click it to uncompress it.
Double-click the Boot Camp disk image.
Copy the Boot Camp and "$WinPEDriver$" folders to the root level of a USB flash drive or hard drive that is formatted with the FAT file system (see question below for steps on how to format).
Install Windows, leaving the flash or hard drive attached to the USB port of your Mac.
Installation of the drivers can take a few minutes. Don't interrupt the installation process. A completion dialog box will appear when everything is installed. Click Finish when the dialog appears.
When your system restarts your Windows 8 installation is done.
Note: If the flash drive or hard drive was not attached when you installed Windows and was inserted after restarting into Windows 8, double-click the Boot Camp folder, then locate and double click the "setup.exe" file to start the installation of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software.
How do I format USB media to the FAT file system?
Use Disk Utility to format a disk to use with a Windows computer. Here's how:
Important: Formatting a disk erases all the files on it. Copy any files you want to save to another disk before formatting the disk.
Open Disk Utility.
Select the disk you want to format for use with Windows computers.
Click Erase, and choose one of the following from the Format pop-up menu:
If the size of the disk is 32 GB or less, choose MS-DOS (FAT).
If the size of the disk is over 32 GB, choose ExFAT.
Type a name for the disk. The maximum length is 11 characters.
Click the Erase button and then click Erase again.
Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp. Windows blue screen of death crash during Boot Camp driver install
I have been trying to get Windows running under Boot Camp on my 2.66 GHz Alu iMac, but without success.
Boot Camp partitions the drive and Windows XP SP2 installs properly. I boot into Windows, and then insert my Leopard install DVD to install the Apple drivers.
The driver installation gets about halfway, then the machine crashes with a blue screen of death and restarts automatically. It puts me back in Windows, with no drivers installed.
I am installing the Boot Camp drivers from the Leopard retail DVD. This machine is missing the Leopard install/restore discs that came with it, and Apple want to charge £99 for a replacement set.
Is there any way I can get the Boot Camp drivers installed, or do I need to find a friend with the exact same machine and original system discs and use those?Aloha Adam.
Don't know whether this is helpful, but below is a list of drivers that are installed (as of Aug 08).
Also, if you have not already, you may find FAQ helpful, as well, at URL: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1656
Lastly, though they're a year old, the Update 2.1 is in .exe format, so if you can get it the .exe download package onto your installed Windows OS somehow (e.g., copied onto a CD, IF Windows can read it), you might stand a chance of alternate means of installing the drivers.
If this helps, please so indicate.
Thanks,
HJ

Mac Mini mid 2011 Windows 7 64 Bit crashes to blue screen after install of Boot Camp Drivers
Hello.
I have installed Windows 7 64 bit on my Mac Mini mid 2011. After the install, I install the Bootcamp Drivers and then after the restart it starts to load and then crashes. Is there some trick to get it to work, It runs fine if I do not install the drivers, but not much works on it.
Thank you in advance for any help.Hi,
Same thing here - but on Mac mini mid 2010...
I have installed the newest drivers downloaded via Boot Camp Assistant 4.0 (from Lion 10.7.1) on Windows 7 64-bit but the updated graphic driver causes my both screens (monitor - MiniDisplayPort and TV - HDMI) to go black, and eventually computer restarts or freezes.
I did some checks reinstalled whole windows, narrowed search to graphisc drivers and can confirm that up to BootCamp version 3.3 (nvidia ver. 19x.x) everything is fine but drivers from Boot Camp 4.0 (nvidia ver. 26x.x) simply render Windows 7 in 64-bit variant useless.
I look forward to some sort of solution or update from Apple as soon as poddible...!! -
I have a mac book pro with Boot Camp that also runs windows. I upgraded to Lion and now the mac side crashes/freezes periodically, especially iphoto. I am told by the genius' that I probably need to "clean" it and reinstall lion using the "recovery drive" which resets everything back to default and reinstalls the lion operating system. My question is will this also delete the "windows" partition drive and all that data too. If so that will be a huge pain in the ___ to back up and reinstall boot camp and windows. I want to shoot the lion.
There is no system like Acronis for the Mac platform. You can try using the buiilt in Disk Utility to create an Image of the complete Mac drive but I have found that this does not work very well as on tryiing to restore it gives errors sometimes.
You can use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable Clone of your system partition. But that is only for the System partition and not the complete drive.
If you use Boot Camp to install Windows on your Mac neither of those two programs will clone the Windows side.
Neither will Disk utility as Mac's can not create or write to a NTFS partition. So some other program is need for that. -

Are you trying DM with/without media manager? I would recommend you to uninstall Desktop Manager and clean install DM without media manager.

Boot Camp 2.1 Crashed My Windows
I did a disk backup of the windows image after the crash.
Then i deleted the partition.
Now i can't re-partition the disk b/c some files cannot be moved.
I'm not paying $99 for a defrag program that windows provides for free on their side.
Somebody at Apple needs to address this quick. If boot camp 2.1 is crashing computers all over the place (another poster mentioned Norton as a possible conflicting program), they need to provide proper support. My problem with Boot Camp is a little more complex. I am running a Mac Pro 1st generation. I have four Sea Gate 750 gig 32 megs cache per disc. I have ten gigs off certified 667 megahertz ram installed. I DID NOT PARTITION MY MAIN DRIVE! I dedicated hard drive bay four, meaning I gave windows it's own disc. I don't want windows anywhere near my main OS X system besides partitioning your hard drive makes you loose performance. Anyway I have had windows installed for a week now, as off two days ago on boot up almost everything boots up and I get a message stating that "Boot Camp has encountered a problem and needs to close" and thats it (Taking all my OS X driver with it every time). It does it every time. I have uninstalled the drivers from the Leopard disk and reinstalled then got the 2.1 update and still have the same problem. I am stumped on this one. Why did I ever put windows on my Mac anyway. Any Idea's anyone? I know this is a Apple driver problem not windows, windows otherwise is running like a champ on this monster for me.

I have previously installed Boot Camp on this Computer (MBP mid 2012, 15" 2.6 GHZ). I recently replaced the hard drive and was reestablishing bootcamp again. While Boot Camp is writing to the USB thunb drive it crashes and rebootrs. The crash does not generate and message other than a note that there has been an error and the computer is restarting. I have tried several different thumb drives all with the same result. It makes me think that the new hard drive (a Seagate Momentus XT 750GB 7200 rpm unit) does not work with Boot Camp. Does anyone have any thoughts or solutions?
Hi,
I solved the problem myself. This might help others.
Recap:
The Windows XP Pro CD was always ejected by Boot Camp and it wouldn't mount at all when inserted in the CD slot. The CD was however readable on a Windows Machine.
It was not easy to detect but the Windows CD was physically deformed. It wasn't flat. It was a little convex (the outer edge was higher than its center). My iMac wasn't able to read it at all but a PC was able until I decided to test it with a full install on the PC. About half way during the installation, it stopped and an error message was displayed by Windows Setup "Disc Read Error - Disc might be damaged".
I ejected the CD and discovered the deformation. So I carefully placed the outer edge of the CD over a ring and put some weight on its center to try to undo the deformation. I've waited 2 days then retested the CD and it worked at the first attempt. My iMac was happy and so was I. I made a security copy of the CD while it's still readable in case I have to re-install later.
I find Microsoft cheap of putting their Installation CD in a paper sleeve. If the CD have been stored in a CD case this would not have happened.
End of the story. -
Hi,
Recently I went to partition my MBP and half way through the partition, boot camp crashed and I had to force restart my mac. After I restarted my mac, around 20gb of HDD space was missing. Is there any way I can get it back?
Thanks!Hi and welcome to Discussions,
the best way to remove a BootCamp Windows partition is to use the BootCamp Assistant (in the Applications/Utilities folder) again which should give you the option to remove the made Windows partition and revert back to one OSX volume.
After that's done a reboot of your Mac might be advisable. After the reboot you can use the BootCamp Assistant again to make a new Windows partition and then install Windows again.
Only if that's not working (whatever the reason) :
1) boot your Mac from your OSX install DVD
2) choose your language and then 'ignore' (cancel) the installation
3) from the Top Menu (Utilities) start Disk Utility (DU)
4) in DU click on your harddisk (not any partition) in the left pane (the first item listed)
5) in the right pane use the 'Partition'-Tab
6) click to highlight on the ex-Windows partition you want to delete
7) click on the small '-' Button at the bottom
That should delete your former Windows partition
After that's done successfully
8) Drag the partition separator line until it encompasses the entire drive and then select apply.
9) Quit Disk Utility
10) reboot your Mac from your harddisk.
This procedure only works with OSX 10.5 Leopard or 10.6 Snow Leopard.
Since you are 'fumbling' with your OSX partition you should consider having/making a backup of it before trying the a.m. procedure. Just in case.
Regards
Stefan
