Boot camp: AD Roaming profiles error

- Client: Mac OS X 10.7.3 and Boot Camp 4.0 (Windows 7) installed
- Network: Microsoft Active Directory (Windows Server 2008 R2) with Roaming Profiles enabled
When logging into Windows Boot Camp, Windows pauses with the login screen - it only happens to roaming profiles, local domain profiles have no issue
Any clue or ideas?
Thanks a lot,
Matthias / Berlin

See if Windows 8 RP x64 works as an experiment.
    Usually slowest burn speed will.
I am assuming that smething changed but there are I presume a number of other people who have, and folks with new MacBook Air too.

  • Install Windows XP in Leopard WITHOUT Boot Camp - No More Disk Error

For those of you having problems installing Windows XP in Boot Camp because of the formatting screen never showing up and then the system restarting with the dreaded:
Press any key to boot from CD .....
    Disk Error
    Press any key to restart
I too spent many frustrating hours trying to find a solution that worked. I searched these threads, tried many of the solutions suggested here and elsewhere, including recreating the Windows CD without a specific file, using the FreeDOS boot CD (couldn't ever get it to work, though I understand some people have had success), Reinstalling Leopard and trying again, dancing around the laptop with incense three times counter clockwise while chanting the name of my childhood pet... etc.
I FOUND A NEW SOLUTION!!!! A much easier solution!!!!
For anyone who is having this problem and is planning to run virtualization software.
(Something that let's you run Windows from inside Leopard)
    SKIP BOOT CAMP ALTOGETHER!!!
USE VMware Fusion to install Windows.
I decided to try a different approach entirely and did a completely fresh install of Leopard (not sure if that was necessary or not but with everything else I had been trying I wanted to clean it up anyhow) and then installed the 30 day trial version of Fusion w/ the unlock key VMware emailed me.
I entered my information and Windows product key into Fusion's "Easy Install" Interface, clicked install, and about 30 minutes later I was browsing around in XP.
I HIGHLY recommend this option for anyone having difficulty with the formatting screen not showing up. I have a Bachelors Degree in Information Systems and still spent the better part of 2 days working on this boot camp problem, including numerous hours with the higher tier of apple's tech support. I suspect that those of us having this problem may have an OEM or systembuilder copy of XP... but that is for Apple to deal with - not me, I have better things to do with my time.
If you are planning to run Windows from within Leopard anyhow, just buy Fusion and to **** with the hassle.
You can go to VMware's website and get a 30 day evaluation copy to see if this will work for you before you decide if you want to purchase it, they will email you the unlock key.
Best of luck, hope this saves someone some time!

For what it's worth, I've used the OEM version (copper disk), Select version (bulk license), and an NFR (partner program) version of XP Pro with SP2 and they all worked. On my MacBook Pro's I use boot camp to split the disk in two, reboot using the Windows CD, and pick the partition to format it.
Apple states that you need a full version of Windows, and the OEM versions are slightly different from the commercial versions, but both should work. On my Mac Pro, I created a 3-disk OS X RAID-0, and left the 4th disk alone. I rebooted with the Windows CD and installed Windows to the 4th disk without Bootcamp at all. Once Windows was installed, I used the Leopard disk to install the Bootcamp drivers. The Mac side has no Bootcamp installation but I can still choose between the volumes by holding down the option key at boot time or by setting the startup volume in the OS X Startup disk preference pane.
The solution to use virtualization, unfortunately, will not work for many situations where graphics are involved. Most current major products, such as AutoCAD, 3dsMax, and so forth, will not run properly or at all without specific DirectX 9 or OpenGL support. To date both Parallels and VMWare do not completely support DirectX or OpenGL.

  • Boot Camp: Windows: "No Disk" error

I've been looking around all over for topics based on the Disk Error when installing windows xp. Basically the issue is that when my windows installation starts, I get no option to repartition the C:/ partition that Boot Camp creates. This causes my installation to successfully copy the files to the partition but when it restarts I get the Disk Error and can not do anything other than reboot.
I need to know exactly how to get the windows installation to allow me to repartition the the partition that boot camp creates, otherwise I don't see any way that I would be able to install windows xp pro.

I had the same problem and found couple solutions ON THIS FORUM!
but to save you the trouble: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1199436&start=0&tstart=0
the guy who posted this found the answer to his own post, so the question is still marked as not answered but the solution is there. but my question is, when you follow this guy's method, you get annoying message of 'start from XP or some unknown OS on C' option. it's nothing to worry about but i don't like it and want to get rid of it. if you know what i'm talking about please tell me how to get rid of it. thanks.

  • When trying to download Boot Camp Windows Support Software, error says: "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."

I use a Macbook Pro 13" mid 2010 on Mavericks and I've tried using the Boot Camp assistant to download support software for Windows 7. This gives the error "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."
Further, I tried to separately download Boot Camp 4 and 5. When I do this and try to install from Windows 7, it says that this version of Boot Camp is not for this computer and doesn't install. The result is that I have Windows 7 working and installed, but am unable to use the trackpad to rightclick, brightness settings, etc.
    Please help!
    Thanks

You need to run Bootcamp Assistant and select only the menu item to download the Windows Support Software. Follow the instructions. The download servers are extremely slow therefore it may take several hours to get the download.

  • Windows 7 64bit & Boot Camp 3.0 Installer Error

I have an early 2009 13" unibody MacBook. I have run the 64bit Win7 RC on it, and installing the 3.0 version of Bootcamp (as I recall) went well.
I have the released version of Windows 7 and am trying to install the 64bit version on a 62GB Bootcamp partition but for some reason, the 64bit BC install won't run. I get an error message that Boot Camp x64 is not supported on this computer model.
Is that correct? The early 2009 unibody MacBook won't run Boot Camp 3.x?
Has anyone else bumped into this problem?

  • Boot Camp 2.1 Update: Error, would not install

I tried to update my Boot Camp to 2.1.
The reasoning being, that my dimmer button, my volume button, etc does not work on my Windows Vista Ultimate Side.
Other short cut keys worked (i tried): ie: Print screen via 'fn'altF11, etc
However, when I installed it, the following message appeared.
"the installer encountered errors before Boot Camp could be configured.
To retry these operations at a later time, please run th installer again.
Click Finish to exit the installer."
How can I install the Boot Camp 2.1 updater?
    Please advise.
    Many thanks.

First, backup. Files and system with Ultimate's build-in programs or 3rd party.
run chkdsk for starters. you may want to dabble even more with msconfig and look at your logs, see if there are errors, what startup items and services are running.
I could not install BC 2.1 64-bit even though I have 64-bi9t OS and hardware, maybe because older Mac Pro has 32-bit EFI.
I'd look at uninstalling and reinstalling BC 2.0 and leave well enough alone and focus on just the small issues for now.
Oh, and WinClone is another method and free for backing up NTFS partitions from within OS X worth looking into.
I have not read of the error you got, off hand, that I recall reading.
I really think we need a BC 2.2 at this point in time.

  • Boot Camp Mac Driver Disc Error

    Hello,
So, I got through most of the Boot Camp process but right at the end I had an error. I originally burned the driver disc onto a CD. After installing windows and starting it up I popped in the driver disc and it started downloading the drivers. Then all of a sudden a window pops up that reads:
    Feature Transfer Error
Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation
Consult Windows Installer Help (msi.chm) or MSDN for more information.
So, I figured it was an error with the driver disc. I figured I would create another by logging onto OSX. I tried restarting the computer from Windows and everything just froze. I ended up having to manually restart my iMac. I then logged onto OSX and this time burned the drivers onto a DVD. Well, I got the same results. Same error at the same point in the driver download into Windows.
This is just reminding me how frustrating Windows can be. I am stumped on what to try next, and Windows still freezes when I attempt to shutdown or restart.
    Is anyone else experiencing this?
    Thanks!
    -Matt

Error 1603 is a generic machine-specific issue. One or more of the following fixes resolve the error.
    1. This error is known to occur on computers that do not have enough disk space for the installation.
    2. The Temp directory is not clean.
    3. A certain file on the machine is locked. To fix this, close all applications running in the background. Reboot computer and run the installation again.
    4. Use Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup utility by clicking on the following link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;290301 to remove traces of previous installations. This utility does not remove files installed by the installation, which may need to be removed manually. Go to the following Microsoft link to download the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.

  • Copying Roaming Profile - Errors

    Hi,
    I am following article
kb\314478 on making a roaming profile in XP, I created the roaming profile (user1) on \\laptop now when I try to copy it over to \\desktop I get 'Directory \\desktop\user1 could not be deleted please delete the directory and retry'.
So I go to \\desktop and delete it, try and copy it again from \\laptop\user1 to \\desktop\user1 and I get 'failed to set security on the destination profile - the network name could not be found'.
I don't know what to do, it's like an endless loop, I cant NOT have the folder but if I do it says it can't delete it.
Both computers have the everyone share permissions added, I've tried using administrator, user1, and administrators too, The NTFS permissions I've basically tried all users\groups that apply.
if you want the long names they are:
    C:\Documents and Settings\User1 (for \\laptop\)
    C:\Documents and Settings\User1 (for \\desktop\)
When copying the share I've tried setting the 'permitted to use' as everyone, administrator, administrators, and user1. Both computers are on the same network in a WORKGROUP and using XP pro.
The first time I tried it worked fine but I forgot to enter the username in 'authorized to use' something so I had to delete and copy it again and that's what the problems started.
Any ideas? as this is rattling my brains.
*EDIT I found a way to get roaming profiles working without having to copy the profile however I will leave this discussion open incase other people have this problem.

We experience the same message, reinstalled the ZfdAgent.msi install, and
now we never see the message. The problem is caused by the installation
of the Novell Client or the patches for the Client because they save over
top of some of the Zen files.

  • Boot Camp 2.0 install error

    Hello,
I have been running BC 1.3b and have finally gotten around to upgrading to 2.0. When I try to install in XP the installer eventually errors out with a generic error message. If I run the msi in verbose, the following error dumps into the log:
    MSI (c) (DC:88) [09:59:14:014]: Doing action: GetIntelGRXID
    Action start 9:59:14: GetIntelGRXID.
MSI (c) (DC:74) [09:59:14:014]: Invoking remote custom action. DLL: C:\DOCUME~1\FRANKM~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\MSI46.tmp, Entrypoint: GetDeviceId
Enum hardwareIDs for Intel Graphics 965
Starting loop through Device Info list
Action ended 9:59:14: GetIntelGRXID. Return value 3.
Anyone else seen this and any hints?
    Thanks

Thanks Nerowolfe. That worked like a charm (though I won't say what methods I had to go through to get 1.4b). However, now that 2.0 is installed, I downloaded 2.1 and got an error when running the exe. So I unpacked it and ran the msi file through a verbose output and got:
MSI (c) (E4:D8) [16:41:41:578]: Invoking remote custom action. DLL: C:\DOCUME~1\FRANKM~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\MSI14.tmp, Entrypoint: GetDeviceId

    Any other thoughts?
    Thanks again for the help.
The same methods you used to get 1.4 are needed to get BC2.02, which is an intermediate step from 2.0 to 2.1.
If you read my other posts on this board, you will see how to get it. I won't be very specific, just as you are being vague about 1.4
I could not install BC2.1 for my Vista 64-bit until I first installed BC2.02.
There are two .msi files in the BC2.02 package. One for 32-bit, one for 64-bit.
Apple must be aware of the issue with BC2.1 since they pulled the 64-bit version.
From your posts, I am sure you will find out what to do. Post back

  • Windows corrupts itself, errors installing Boot Camp 2.0 & 2.1

Mac OS 10.5 is working just fine, however upon partitioning and installing Windows XP Pro w/ SP2, I have nothing but problems! Windows update will not work, cannot install Boot Camp 2.1 without errors (says files are corrupted, even though I have re-downloaded the file a dozen or so times). After a short while of rebooting and attempts to install updates, Windows corrupts itself; IE will not open, Windows explorer crashes regularly, and no installation files will open without errors. Safari for windows barely works. I have attempted formatting and reinstalling the system 4 times now, both FAT and NTFS, using different Mac OS X disks for boot camp software, but I get errors every time. It seems I cannot install anything without errors. Also, windows seems to degenerate, each time I boot up the computer windows gets progressively worse, more errors, more problems.
I have checked and all of my EFI and SMC software is up to date.
Everything is working just fine on my Macbook (different computer), which used the same procedure.
    Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.33ghz, 3gig RAM, 160HD, X1600, DL-DVDR
Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.4 Windows XP Pro w/ SP2

Solution found: Bad memory module (stick of RAM). After removing the bad stick, windows runs normally, updates are smooth.
Used "Remember" application to confirm memory is bad.

  • Boot Camp and Disk Utility giving Error for my Hard Drive Volume

When trying to partition my Hard Drive with Boot Camp, I get an error message after a while saying that it can't be partitioned because there is an error in the volume and that I should check it in Disk Utility. After running Verify Disk, it had told me that the file count was wrong and that I should repair my Disk. I have leopard installed, but only had access to a Tiger Install Disc, so after booting to that and apparently repairing successfully, I booted back onto my Hard Drive and ran Disk Utility's Verify Disk again. Now it said that my Volume Header needs minor repair. I still get the same message in Boot Camp. Running Verify and Repair Disk from the Tiger Install Disc tells me that everything is alright and the Hard Drive doesn' need repairing. I read on an Apple article that verifying a disk that's booted can produce inaccurate results, and that it shouldn't be worried about, but I can't install Windows because of this! What should I do?

    Hi,
you have to boot from the Leopard OSX DVD in order to repair the Leopard OSX volume on your harddisk.
Using Disk Utility from an OSX version that is prior to the one you want to repair can indeed cause more errors than before.
So, search for the Leopard DVD.

  • Boot camp install would error out

I had multiple issues as well.
When I first tried to install 8.1 full as a fresh boot camp install it would error out and say that the required files were not there to install.
Then I would try it again and it would then get close to finishing and say it cant change the boot order and fail.
Apple please fix as soon as possible.
    <Re-Titled By Host>

What's happening here is that the Windows installation, for whatever reason, is not booting properly. It is also set as your default boot system. To change this, reboot your mac while holding down the Option/Alt key. After awhile you will be presented with two icons, one for OS X and the other for Windows. Select OS X and then press Enter.
OS X will boot. Go to System Preferences >> Startup Disk and then select your OS X partition and this won't happen anymore.

You must update your computer's Boot ROM firmware before using this setup assistant.
I have been able to install before the 10.5.2 patch with nary a problem but after I upgraded from 10.5.1 and redid the boot camp I get this error. Any help would be appreciated!
