Boot Camp and Windows 7 - uncompatible drivers and BC 3.0

I recently installed Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro using Boot Camp. The installation wen well but when I inserted and tried to run the OSX setup disc, the system referred to known incompatibilities and aborted. I then tried to run the Boot Camp 3.1 driver but this also aborted, stating that Boot Camp 3.0 was missing. I have tried both the 32 and 64 bit Ultimate version and the Enterprise version of Windows 7, always with the same result. I then reinstalled Leopard (and created a mess in a number of other ways) to see if the 3.0 driver had been deleted by mistake. This did not help however. Is there anything I can do?

Boot Camp in Windows has nothing to do with Boot Camp in OS X. So, there was no need for you to reinstall Leopard.
Since you're using Leopard, your Leopard disc will have the 2.xx drivers, which, (apparently) will not install in Windows 7.
You'll need to get a hold of the 3.0 drivers. The 3.1 update downloaded from the Apple site won't install without 3.0 drivers installed.

  • Boot Camp - audio coming from headphones AND internal speakers

Am not sure how prevalent this problem is. I've got XP Pro running on my iMac 20", and am guessing I've got a glitch in boot camp's windows audio drivers.
Normally, when you plug your headphones in, your audio signal is supposed to be routed to them and your internal speakers would be muted. On mine, however, only in XP, plugging in the headphones does indeed cause audio to come out of the headphones, but it does not mute the internal speakers. Basically, I can't stop the audio from coming out the internal speakers without muting everything.
I've gotten no help from Windows volume controls, and unlike on the Mac OS side, there isn't a separate volume setting when the headphones are unplugged.
Anybody see this besides me? Anybody find a solution that'll save me the time of waiting for a new audio driver?
    Thanks in advance!

no new drivers to download. However, the latest Firmware update at least auto-sets the internal speakers to a lower volume at startup (instead of full volume)

Only Apple could hamstring and tie Mac OS to Windows. There isn't any other than whether you can download the drivers into Windows (you can) but Apple puts a block on the installer setup even if your mac does not support it.
Windows 7 needs at least Boot Camp 3.1 and 3.3 is what you should already have. And you are not getting security updates if you don't have at least 10.6.8 as was pointed out.  --- you arent using Software Update as you should. And you should backup and clone Mac (and Windows) as well.
You need Mountain Lion to use Boot Camp 5.x which supports Windows 7 & 8 and 64-bit.
I would upgrade to Lion if you can realizing that Rosetta and PowerPC are no longer supported though.

Is there a download of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software if I'm not using OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3?
Yes, you can download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
How do I use the Boot Camp 5 Support Software I downloaded from the web page?
The download file is a .zip file. Double click it to uncompress it.
Double-click the Boot Camp disk image.
Copy the Boot Camp and "$WinPEDriver$" folders to the root level of a USB flash drive or hard drive that is formatted with the FAT file system (see question below for steps on how to format).
Install Windows, leaving the flash or hard drive attached to the USB port of your Mac.
Installation of the drivers can take a few minutes. Don't interrupt the installation process. A completion dialog box will appear when everything is installed. Click Finish when the dialog appears.
When your system restarts your Windows 8 installation is done.
Note: If the flash drive or hard drive was not attached when you installed Windows and was inserted after restarting into Windows 8, double-click the Boot Camp folder, then locate and double click the "setup.exe" file to start the installation of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software.
How do I format USB media to the FAT file system?
Use Disk Utility to format a disk to use with a Windows computer. Here's how:
Important: Formatting a disk erases all the files on it. Copy any files you want to save to another disk before formatting the disk.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the disk you want to format for use with Windows computers.
Click Erase, and choose one of the following from the Format pop-up menu:
If the size of the disk is 32 GB or less, choose MS-DOS (FAT).
If the size of the disk is over 32 GB, choose ExFAT.
Type a name for the disk. The maximum length is 11 characters.
Click the Erase button and then click Erase again.
Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp. Boot Camp doesn't install the drivers. You have the drivers on a separate USB device if you followed directions. Once in Windows connect the USB drive with the driver software. It should startup automatically and install the drivers.
You don't even need to do that. As downloading the drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant can be unreliable, it is better to get the package directly from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
Copy the .zip file to a USB flash drive or burn it to a DVD in OS X. Install Windows as normal, insert the flash drive/DVD in Windows, copy the .zip file to the hard drive, extract it, then run the setup executable.

  • Will there be a boot camp for Windows 8 Pro?

Does anyone have a clue as to when Apple will have the boot camp available for the Windows 8 Pro? I like the interface better than the Win 7.
boot camp for Win 7 works great but when applied to the  Win 8 program...display is dim, apple keyboard and track mouse in-operable. The case gets hot but only on the Windows operating side. I am unistalling Windows entirely until there is a boot camp that resolves these issues. Mac Operating sys. 10.8.2 mtn lion

People aren't supposed to say here at least reguarding future releases of apple products, but I do know that windows 8 should work with the current bootcamp, I haven't tried because I really dont like windows 8, but it should take all the windows 7 drivers, and I've read about people thatve gotten it working on their macs. Of course it's completely unsupported, but that doesnt mean it isnt going to work.
Of course the operative word here is 'should' .. It has worked for some and not for others, as 8 is currently un-released that is unlikely to change until Microsoft release it and (and only then) Apple release drivers for it.

  • Boot camp with windows 7 downloaded online?

I have a summer 2012 mac book pro running Mac OSX 10.7.4 (this is my first mac product, I bought it like a month ago so I know much). I am intersted in being able to boot Windows 7 though Apple Boot Camp. Windows 7 professional is avialable to me for free though my University but only by online download so I don't have a physical windows installation disk. Can I still use the free windows 7 provided by my unversity even though I don't have the installation disk? How would I do this? All the instructions i've read talks about using a windows 7 installation disk. Can my bring my Mac book pro into a genius bar for someone to help me though this? (I did purchase the 3 year apple care thing and im still within 90 days since I purchased my MBP.)

try burning window 7 to a cd first.
when you download window 7 is it in an image file?

  • Installing Boot Camp with Windows XP

I just bought a new game for my computer, but as it turns out, it's a PC ONLY game. So I thought I'd try out Boot Camp for the Mac. I went to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-xp/default.aspx and clicked on "Important: Download Windows XP Service Pack 3". After that it goes on about why you should install it and so on. But the thing I was wondering about, is if I buy that, will I be able to install it using Boot Camp.
I appreciate any and all responses.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
first things first: from the link you mentioned you only get the Service Pack 3 for Windows XP and not the operating system Windows XP itself.
That Service Pack will only install on a WIndows XP that is already installed.
Have a read through the BootCamp Installation Guide to be found here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/ plus the additional FAQs there.
You have to buy yourself a Windows XP; Vista or Windows 7 to install it on your Mac with BootCamp.
Depending on what Windows game it is you wanna play, you can also have buy and use Crossover Games for Mac https://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxgames/
Look through their compatibility list http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/ whether that game is supported.

Try running XP in a VM or aquire Windows 7 which is the only one supported now.
And you will need more like 60GB for Windows 7, so I would skip on 20GB just to be safe.
20G is a fine minimum for XP, I was not responding to any inquiry about Win 7.
