Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used.

Hi
When i try use Boot Camp i get the following message:
Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used.
You must update your system software before using this setup assistant.
I've installed all the latest updates & it still displays that error??? Can anyone help? I'm sure it used to work.

Confirmed. I was having the same problem, but using SuperDuper to clone the hard disk to an external drive, booting from that drive, reformatting the internal drive using Disk Utility and then finally recloning everything back across to the internal solved the problem. Boot Camp Assistant would then allow me to partition off a chunk for Boot Camp and begin the installation process.
I do tinker more than most people, so it's possible I had screwed up the internal disk structure somehow. My first clue that this was the solution that would work for me was trying to add an extra partition to the internal drive following Dark-Pirata's comment; despite the fact that the disk was formatted as HFS+ Journaled, an error message informed me that I couldn't repartition unless my hard disk was formatted as HFS+ Journaled.

  • Macpro4,1 boot camp assistant cannot be used

    Hello All,
I'm using a macpro4,1 with Mavericks 10.9.1 and boot camp assistant is telling me that it cannot be used. The error reads:
"You must update your computer's Boot ROM firmware before using this setup assistant."
According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237 I am using the latest EFI firmware update, as evidenced by boot ROM version MP41.0081.B08. I tried installing the latest EFI firmare upated offered, version 1.3, but it errors with:
"This compputer does not need this update."
So, I am stuck. EFI says I have the latest, yet BCA says I need an update. It appears I have a later firmware update than is available on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237. However, BCA does not like this firmware. Does the community have any suggestions to resolve this catch 22?
    Thanks!

OS X Lion Some features Lion are not supported during installation
depends on if it is a standard partition structure or not.
you may need to back/ erase / restore from backup or clone
and free space to create? then it has to be unfragmented (contiguous)

  • Boot Cam Assistant Cannot be used... +more troubles...

i may have done something wrong but let me first explain and your opinion would then be very welcome...
got my SL update this friday so i install it in my macmini (early 09), installation go well. It kep my boot camp partition unchanged and working relatively well. untill i install bootcamp for windows after booting up on XP.
I restart on OS X and it hangs for nearly 15min. the slowest boot up i've experienced so far.
Once i'm able to login to my OS account I no longer see the bootcamp partition on "start up Disk"'s system preferences. and when i attempt to run Boot Camp assistant i get this message ....
Boot Cam Assistant Cannot be used
You must update your computer's Boot ROM
firmware before using this setup assistant.
another message appears when i go to "start up disk" in system preference. Although i only see my OS X partition, when i click back on "show all" this message appears:
You can't change the startup disk to the selected disk
The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk
What went wrong and what can be done to correct this very annoying ordeal.
i'm able to boot on xp by pressing "option" whilst restarting my mac. however, bootcamp on windows is able to see OS X partition.
    Your help is appreciated.
    thanks

nobody has anything to say about my problem???
should i have to re-install everything ? and can a SL update DVD allow an installation from scratch ?

  • Boot Camp Assistant Cannot Write USB

I have a 2012 MBP non retina and I was trying to dual boot.  Every time I get to the part where it wants to copy the windows files to my USB it copies all of it (i'm checking the space used on disk utility) then an error pops up saying the USB could not be created.  I tried restarting my computer, i also tried unmounting the windows ISO and also tried to format the USB as a FAT format then running boot camp, but the same error pops up every time.

So I went through the motions, boot camp restarted my computer and windows installation began, and i got stuck in the process.  I came to a screen where i could select the "customized" option or the "update" and here's where the problems come.
Customzed shows different partitions in which i can install windows, i selected the bootcamp partition and it says it is not compatible or something along those lines.
If i go Update it says "This computer started using the windows install disk, remove the install disk, and restart your computer so that windows starts normally.  then insert the installation disk and restart the upgrade.
I did so but when i took the disk out and restarted it, the computer said there is no bootable info and to insert a disk and press any key.  I do so and nothing happens. I waited about 5 minutes to make sure the disk was reading and could feel and hear it spinning, but when i pressed the button nothing happened.
Note: to get the disk out i had to restart and hold the track pad button down and to get back to OS X i had to restart and hold down option/alt button.

  • Cannot restore Boot Camp partition using Boot Camp Assistant with OS X 10.6

  • Boot Camp Setup Assistant Cannot Be Used

Just installed Leopard on my 20" iMac 2GHz Core 2 Intel Machine. Trying to start up the Boot Camp Setup assistant. Clicking Continue gives me the message:
Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used.
You must update your system software before using this setup assistant.
I confirmed that there are no software updates available, and the latest firmware update from the Apple Downloads page reports back that I do not need the update.
Any suggestions on getting boot camp to work?
    Thanks!
    Allen

Backup and do an Erase and Install or re-partition.
This is how I got the installation I have now, and I'd like to use my external HD anyway, shared between VMWARE and Boot Camp.
Do you have an eDisk on our HD?
    Nope.
Do you already have a boot camp partition on your system? More specifically a boot camp beta partition with windows installed on it.
This machine never saw boot camp at all.
I wonder if the way I'm partitioned might be the culprit. I cloned off my old 10.4 system, blew everything away, partitioned 2-ways, installed 10.5 on the first partition, and restored my 10.4 installation to the second.

  • I CANNOT USE BOOT CAMP ASSISTANT 4.1 ON MAC BOOK PRO 15 INCH

i installed windows xp using boot camp Boot Camp Assistant 4.0.1 version, which was on system along with macbook pro 15", quad core processor,
windows were also installed with the partitions, but after windows were installed, drivers were missing and wen i went back through options to open boot camp on mac os it boot camp was nt working,  i deleted the partion where i installed windows xp, and then too boot camp options to make partion is nt showing, kindly guide to repair BOOT CAMP ASSISTANT, and also how can i upgrage my Os frm lion 10.7.3 to mountain loin.

Reinstall OSX using the online recovery.
Then use Boot Camp Assistant. One of the Boot Camp Assistant menu items is download the Windows Support Software (drivers). Make sure you follow the Boot Camp instructions.
Or, Reinstall OSX using the online recovery.
Then install a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox. Then install Windows in the virtual machine.
You can use either Boot Camp or a virtual machine to install Windows. Neither method requires any driver cds.

  • Cannot use Boot Camp Assistant

I just installed Leopard 10.5 en updated it to 10.5.1. If I try to open Boot Camp Assistant, I get the message: 'You should update the Boot-ROM-firmware of your computer before you use Boot Camp Assistant'. Does anyone knows where I can find this firmware?

I a having the same issue only with a macbook. This is the same message I got when I tried one of the later beta versions. I ended up just using one of the older ones until I installed leopard (yesterday). Before installing leopard I restored my hard drive to a single volume so I could use the new boot camp. It tells me I need to Update my Boot ROM firmware and I have found the correct update but when I go to install it the updater tells me that I do not need it. This is so frustrating.

  • Problems installing Windows 7 using boot camp assistant

I have followed the guide form the Apple website and using boot camp assistant, I have managed to install Windows 7 Home Premium up to a point.
When the IMac re-boots and starts up in Windows 7 it tries to complete the installation but neither my mouse, keyboard or trackpad work.
This means I cannot enter a computer name in the first windows 7 screen, which in turn prevents the completion of the installation and the installation of the drivers for the keyboard, mouse and trackpad.
Does anyone have an idea how I can complete the installation?
    I am using a 2012 IMac 27".
    Thanks

    Hi,
yes I used boot camp for everything and followed what was advised on the Apple web page. The USB remains in the back of the machine and it did download the windows drivers etc, but it doesn't seem to have installed them yet.
If I'm reading help manual properly, it is supposed to install them after windows 7 has been installed. But I can't get past the first Windows screen asking me to name my windows computer.
If I obtain a USB keyboard will that run without any drivers being required?
    Thanks

  • Boot Camp error: The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Jounraled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.

    Hi!
    I am getting the error:
"The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.  The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Jounraled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows."
I read up some on google, but all of them says that they have crated a partition and that is the problem, I only have the standard "Macintosh HD".
I tried to create a partition manually in disk utility but then the error message: "Partition failed with error message: Could not unmount disk."
Can anyone help me? It's driving me crazy.
    Thanks.

This message, and threads like yours got asked daily for over two years, now it is only a couple times a week!!
Is it so hard to follow through? you were to have backup already, clones are best, then erase/format and restore.
    Then partition.
Some have been able to use Disk Utility booted from OS X DVD or another drive, and repair the drive.
You have to use Boot Camp Assistant (99.9% anyway) to create and achieve a proper Windows Master Boot Record partition.

  • Boot Camp Assistant tells me: The disk cannot be partitioned because...

When I try to partition my disk and install Windows on it, I get the message:
+*"The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved.*+
+Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."+
My computer has a 160GB hard drive and there is 50GB free on it. I only want to give Windows 15GB, so I should have plenty of room, however I have tried as little as 5GB, and as much as 32GB, and nothing works. I have installed XP on this MacBook before and it worked fine. I have since uninstalled it, and now I can't get it to work again. Is there anything I can do without having to format the disk?
    Thank you.
