Hi there,
I have a 2011 Macbook pro, 15", 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM. I'm wanting to install windows 8.1 using boot camp assistant, and downloaded windows 8.1 from dreamspark (Microsoft store for students). I have downloaded all of the windows support software onto a USB, and there is a folder sitting on my desktop containing the .ISO for windows 8.1. However, when i try to run boot camp assistant, it says that the installer disc could not be found, and does not give me an option to install from a selectable .ISO. Can anyone help me with this? Is it something obvious I'm missing? Thanks!
ConnorFor Macs with built-in Optical drives, you will need to burn the ISO to Optical media and use the Optical drive.

2008 MacBook Boot Camp Assistant doesn't recognize Windows XP install disk
I'm trying to install Boot Camp, so I put in my Windows XP installation disk, which the computer recognizes because it shows up on the desktop, but when I run the Boot Camp Assistant, it says "The installer disk could not be found. Insert your Windows installer disc and wait a few seconds for the disc to be recognized."
Any help?shelleykapowski wrote:

That the disk is recognized in Leopard does not mean it's the right disk.
The Windows disk must be XP w/SP2 embedded, or Vista.
It must also be a full install disk, not an update or restore disk, and not a ISO-image disk. -
Boot Camp Assistant Won't Launch
I have not been able to get Boot Camp Assistant to launch. I double click on it but nothing happens. No error messages. Nothing.
Background: I just replaced the hard drive in my MacBook Pro Core Duo 2.4 GHz. Using the Restore Option of Disk Utility I copied a backup I had made of the full original Mac OS X partition from my old internal drive (I also had a Boot Camp Windows partition but that's another matter I think) to an external USB drive. Booting and operation from the new hard drive once restored seemed fine, but when I tried to launch Boot Camp Assistant to create a partition for Windows nothing happened. I restarted off my external USB backup drive and tried to launch Boot Camp Assistant from that drive, still nothing.
I then performed an Archive & Install of Tiger (I'd been running Leopard 10.5.8) and Boot Camp Assistant still wouldn't start. I'm currently updating Tiger to Leopard on my MacBook Pro but I'm not hopeful Boot Camp Assistant will launch after the update. Why would it? It didn't launch under Leopard after I restored it to the new hard drive. It wouldn't launch in Leopard when I started off my external drive. It wouldn't launch under Tiger after an Archive and Install. Obviously I've used Boot Camp Assistant before to create the Windows partition on my old drive so it would seem my firmware is current enough. I'm not getting any error messages to the contrary. I have no idea why Boot Camp Assistant will not launch.
I'm wondering if there may be something in one of the Previous Systems folders that is preventing Boot Camp Assistant from launching. The old hard drive was pretty messed up with hundreds of "Missing Folders" in the Rescued Items folder which I think was created by Disk Warrior.
Any ideas? Thanks.
Also, I'm wondering if there is any way to go back and use a Previous System. You see, I'm going to have to reinstall a lot of software if I can't do that. I'd rather avoid that hassle. Thanks again. In addendum to my original post: If I open the Boot Camp Assistant package contents and drill down to the BootCamp Executable file and double click that, Terminal opens with the following message:
Last login: Fri Jun 3 10:34:18 on console
Macintosh:~ photoruss$ /Applications/Utilities/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant.app/Contents/MacOS/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant ; exit;

[Process completed]
If I do the same thin on my MacPro I get a different message and Boot Camp Assistant starts:
Last login: Fri May 27 10:17:08 on console
/Applications/Utilities/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant.app/Contents/MacOS/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant ; exit;
macpro:~ russgreene$ /Applications/Utilities/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant.app/Contents/MacOS/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant ; exit;
logout

Boot camp assistant no longer registers my windows partition.
I recently decided to wipe my macbook pro (aluminum) and reinstall OS X on it. Using my leopard install disk, I erased the drive. I had a windows partition running at the time, but I decided no to erase that as well. Unfortunately it seems as thought the disk couldn't install snow leopard from scratch, so I installed tiger (my leopard disk wasn't working) and upgraded from there. This worked, and now I've got snow leopard up and running, the only issue is that boot camp assistant doesn't register my hard drive as being partitioned, so I cant remove or add partitions, though I can still boot into XP.
I want to remove and resize the partition, should I use disk utility to erase it? Or is there an alternate solution?
Thanks
-WillWell, I just noticed the restore button at the bottom corner of boot camp assistant. Seems to have solved the problem XD.

Late 2012 iMac 3TB does not support Boot Camp Assistant
Got my new customized iMac 27' yeasterday. After installing some soft, I decided to install Windows 7 as second OS on Boot Camp. After clicking the Boot Camp Assistant icon, programm opens, and immediately it shows error "Boot Camp Assistaint does not support Windows installation on this iMac 3TB" or something like that (I have a russian version of dashboard/OS). Only option available at that moment - button "OK", which exits Boot Camp A|ssistant.
So... Any suggestions on how to solve the problem? I really need Windows as second OS, and don't want to install it like a virtual/emulator machine.
My customized iMac "loadout" is Core i7 3.4, 16Gb DDR, Nvidia GeForce 680MX 2Gb, 3TB Hard Drive.
P.S. I thought this may be solved by separating Hard Drive into partitions (main, which is for Mac OS, and little tome for Windows, formated into MS DOS FAT system), still - this has not helped me.CAH4E3 wrote:

There is a thread covering this subject here. I would advise you to read the whole thread before trying the 'solution'. -

Hi everyone
I am running Snow Leopard on my early 2006 MBP. I just downloaded Boot Camp 3.1 so I can upgrade 3.0. Is there anything special I need to do to "install" 3.1 so that when I run Boot Camp Assistant it uses 3.1 instead of 3.0? Thank You.The Boot Camp 3.1 drivers you downloaded have to be installed in Windows after running Boot Camp Assistant. That update does not apply to Boot Camp Assistant, and as you are using Mac OS X 10.6.8, you are using the most recent Boot Camp Assistant version for Snow Leopard.
Once you have installed Windows with Boot Camp, insert the Snow Leopard DVD in Windows and install the Boot Camp 3.0 drivers. Then, install the Boot Camp 3.1 drivers -

This refers to the Code Signature. OP was potentially editing their plist.info file.
Open a terminal and navigate to /Applications/Utilities and run the following:
codesign --display -vv “Boot Camp Assistant.app”
You will likely come up with:
Boot Camp Assistant.app: invalid Info.plist (plist or signature have been modified)
If so, run:
sudo codesign -fs - /Applications/Utilities/Boot\ Camp\ Assistant.app
If you do not have Xcode installed, download it from the Apple App Store:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/xcode/id497799835?mt=12
Open first and accept licensing agreement. This will allow you to resign the package with the changes you made to the info.plist file.
Good to go. Let me know if you have any issues.

Enable Bootcamp to install from usb for OSX 10.9**WORKS** -
Kernel panic when using boot camp assistant
OS X 10.5.2 all updates. 65GB of free space.
Installed Boot Camp Assistant from the OSX DVD that came with my MacBook(10.5)
After installation of Boot Camp Assistant ran software update (no updates needed)
Launch Boot Camp and after sliding the amount to use for the Windows Partition (15GB,20GB,25GB equal, doesnt matter the size I've tried them all) it will prepare for partition.
Then kernel panic (dimmed screen with text on grey stating must restart computer)
Once restarted the HDD has loss the space from the Boot Camp partition. I have run the Disk Utilities from the DVD to repair the disc.
This has happened each and every time (5x).
What is needed to use boot camp without causing os x to crash?
I've also.. at each kernel panic sent the report to apple. All,
I believe I have discovered a solution for this problem. It at least helped me out. And no, it didn't involve buying iDefrag. This solution is totally free, but it involves a bit of work. It also involves iDefrag. Confused? Read on:
The problem is that the partition literally involves chopping off a contiguous block of free space at the END of your existing partition. I was clued onto this by trying to resize the partition with Disk Utility (which also failed with a kernel panic). The problem I was having was simply that, since I had all but filled my hard drive before this, I had data for files spread all over my hard drive.
So what was I to do? There's no way to view where a file is physically on the disk. The iDefrag utility would do what I need, but cost $34. Then it hit me: what if I could defragment my hard drive manually? All I would need is an interface that shows me the physical layout of the data on the hard disk so I'd know which files I would need to either delete (or duplicate and delete). I correctly hypothesized that the DEMO of iDefrag would do this for me.
So I began, identifying the last file before contiguous white space began. The goal being to carve out a good chunk of "white" empty blocks on the right-hand side. For those wondering about the Header file at the very end of the disk, don't worry. It doesn't seem to matter. For example, I see a huge file. The blocks take up half the screen. I select it and open the Info window and see that it's a digital video file from iMovie. The info window has a selectable file path. I copy it, switch to the finder and hit "Apple-Shift-G", paste the file path and hit enter and I am taken there. I find the file and do one of three things:
1. If it's a file I want or need to keep, but it's a file I created, then I just duplicate it with Ctrl-D. Delete the original, rename the copy to the original name and empty the trash.
2. If it's a file I want or need to keep, but the SYSTEM generated it, I'll need to enter my password as I duplicate it. Enter the password again as you delete the original. You will need to use terminal and the "sudo mv" command to rename the file to the original name (Sorry). Empty the trash.
3. If it's a file I don't need, either created by me or the system, delete it and empty the trash.
"But wait", you might ask. "Steps 1 and 2 appear to do nothing! If you copy the file and rename it to be the same name as the original, nothing is being accomplished!" It might seem like nothing at first, but the FILE SYSTEM created the new file at the EARLIEST possible contiguous free disk space. If you're like me, you freed up a bunch of disk space to make this Boot Camp thing possible. This is evidenced by the white "holes" earlier in the disk (earlier as in "more to the left"). The copy of your file used the earlier white space. Deleting the original turns the blocks white!
Often your processes will create a lot of little files around the same place. For example, a World of Warcraft update might create a lot of little files at the same time. If you get to a point on the disk where it seems like a lot of files in the /Library/Application Support/ folder were created, just copy and paste the least common denominator. If you buy music once in a while, it might be your entire Music Folder that could be worth duplicating! No need to do it file-by-file. The important thing is that files to the right of the bar get moved more to the left of the bar, leaving with you CONTIGUOUS FREE SPACE at the END of your disk.
Finally, after doing this for about an hour, I wanted to see how big a partition I could create. Originally I'd been trying to create a 20 GB partition. From my estimates, if I had tried to create a 9 GB partition, I'd have been just fine the whole time. But that's not enough to play Bioshock! When I finished I took out the ruler and measured the bar on my screen.
The whole bar was 289 milimeters. The contiguous white space ended at 239 milimeters. That's 50 milimeters of continuous space. That's 20.9% of my disk capacity of 93.4 gigs. That, my friends, is 19.54 gigs. I created an 18 GB parition and voila, it worked fine!
I hope this helps some people. It's definitely a wallet-saving venture at the expense of sanity, but there is a way to do this without spending money. Also, while I call this a sort of "manual defragmentation process", it's a bit of a misnomer. While it is freeing up the blocks at the end of the drive, it is possible (or likely) that this process will seriously fragment your drive. After doing this, it may be worth the investment to buy iDefrag so they can really get your file system in order. But at least this'll get Boot Camp running.
Regards,
Tristan

Could you please upload the original info.plist.

More info: I'm using an external CD drive because the built-in one doesn't work for some reason.
Also I went back and deleted the partition (also using Boot Camp Assistant) and just gave up on installing XP, but now every time I turn on my macbook I have to press the Option key to mount the Mac HD. If I don't, it returns to the black screen that says I have to insert the bootable disk and press any key. How do I stop this problem? I've already verified the disk and permissions, plus repaired it. It's still the same.Go into your system preferences and click the startup disk icon then select your Mac HD.

Boot Camp Now Hangs Every Time & Every Which Way
My Fall 2013 installation of Windows 8 was a breeze! I’ve been running Windows 8.1 until a week ago when my internal “Windows” drive was no longer visible as a boot drive. I option-key boot into one of three internal drives:
SSD / 10.9.3
1TB HD / 10.6.8
1TB HD / Windows
Convincing myself that I must have missed something, I’ve studied and re-studied the Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide and have read and tried the procedures described in numerous discussions and youtube videos.
Expect that this seems radical but thought it smart maintenance to back up all Windows HD data and reformat the Windows HD. I pulled my SSD (no mess with), booted into Recovery-10.9.3 and installed a clean 10.9.3.
>Put Windows installation DVD in CD drive >Shut down >reboot w/ Option+Command+p+r (reset PRAM) >Reboot 10.9.3
Mac Pro is now configured simply as:
1TB HD / 10.9.3
Windows DVD
32GB Flash
My failed installs with Boot Camp Assistant (5.1.2):
1.
Boot Camp Assistant adds a partition to 10.9.3, downloads and installs Windows support software >system auto reboots >black screen >chimes >grey screen >Windows CD spins up> then spins down >I wait for an hour+ but nothing seems to be going on and grey screen remains. (I never get to the Windows setup phase.)
reboot >launch Disk Utility >remove partition added for Boot Camp >shut down and reboot
2.
Boot Camp Assistant adds a partition to 10.9.3, downloads and installs Windows support software >system auto reboots >I option-key and 10.9.3, Recovery-10.9.3, Windows (CD), and Boot EFI (CD) options are presented >I select Windows but it immediately hangs. (Can’t boot to the Windows Installation DVD.)
reboot >launch Disk Utility >remove partition added for Boot Camp >shut down and reboot
3.
Boot Camp Assistant adds a partition to 10.9.3, downloads and installs Windows support software >system auto reboots >I option-key and 10.9.3, Recovery-10.9.3, Windows (CD), and Boot EFI (CD) options are presented >I select Boot EFI > Windows setup begins >I enter my Windows 8 key >Windows can’t find a drive for installation (even, from within Advanced option, formatting the disk during Windows setup process).
reboot >launch Disk Utility >remove partition added for Boot Camp >shut down and reboot
4.
Purchase AnyToISO for $23 to extract the ISO from my Windows 8 DVD. Easily done.
Edited the info.plist file for Boot Camp Assistant (youtube video VBAQ3CNgfxc) so that “Create a Windows 7 or later version install disk” would list as an option under Boot Camp Assistant’s "Select Tasks" window. Checked all three options. >Selected the fresh ISO file with the installation destination being my 32GB flash drive. Boot Camp downloads and installs latest Windows support software from Apple. >system reboots >black screen >chimes >grey screen >Windows CD spins up> then spins down > I wait for an hour+ but nothing seems to be going on and grey screen remains. (I never get to the Windows setup phase.)
Checking the content of the 32GB flash (now named “WININSTALL”) it contains:
$WinPEDriver$ (folder)
autorun.inf
AutoUnattend.xml
boot (folder)
BootCamp (folder)
Bootmgr
bootmgr.efi
efi (folder)
the .iso file
setup.exe
sources (folder)
support (folder)
>shut down
I option-key reboot >10.9.3, Recovery-10.9.3, EFI Boot (flash drive), Windows (CD), and EFI Boot (CD) options are presented >I select the flash drive Boot EFI >Windows setup begins >I enter my Windows 8 key >Windows can’t find a drive for installation.
The only significant hardware/software differences (between now and my initial installation of Windows) is the progression of OS updates to the current (10.9.3) and the current version of Boot Camp Assistant (5.1.2).
Other recent procedures:
-verified my HD
-repaired permissions
-reset PRAM
For most install attempts I let Boot Camp Assistant build the partition. However, I’ve also tried adding a second partition manually w/ Disk Utility to make room for Boot Camp and Windows support software.
Do I need to regress to 10.8? IF that’s what was on my Mac Pro when received Fall 2013, it worked just fine!
What a nightmare!
I’m going crazy here!
What am I missing?
Any suggestions appreciated!I've ordered Mountain Lion 10.8 from Apple Store. (Possible that my Mac Pro was not running Mavericks when received.)
Today I downloaded the trial of ntfsmac. It adds "Windows NT Filesystem" and "Windows NT Filesystem (compressed)" to Disk Utilitie's format options. I formatted a 1TB internal HD with "Windows NT Filesystem."
Shut down Mac Pro >pulled all drives and placed the 1TB internal HD in bay 1 (Windows install DVD is in disc drive). Reboot to Windows and proceed through first pages of setup but dead end as with previous installations:
Where do you want to install Windows?
Windows can't be installed on Drive 0 partition 1
Windows can't be installed on Drive 0 partition 2
I select "Drive Options (advanced)" and format partition 2.
outcome: "Windows can't be installed on Drive 0 partition 2" -
Installing Windows 7 using Boot Camp Assistant
I want to install Windows 7, but my iMac came with Boot Camp 3.0.1. Apple says that I need to update my Boot Camp to 3.1. But when I go to the appropriate support site and download the 3.1 32-bit version, I get a message stating: You have chosen to open BootCamp3.132-bit.exe. Is this the right file? It has an .exe extension and my web browser's download utility (Firefox) doesn't know what to do with this file. Am I doing something wrong?
Hi,
I got my first Mac a few weeks ago and I feel into this problem. What you need to do is from your Mac launch Boot Camp Assistant and install Windows 7 (I recommend Windows 7 64bit version) as per the normal Boot Camp process.
Once you have Windows 7 installed, boot into Windows and then download the latest the Boot Camp Assistant update for Windows i.e. the .exe file you downloaded before, and install on Window 7. Make sure you get the right version as there is a 32bit and 64bit version.
I short the .exe is only to be installed on your Windows partition and is nothing to do with Boot Camp on your Mac.
FYI - if like me you find that after a while you have made your Windows partition to big and want to repartition to give some space back to your mac check this Website out - it works a treat, but always remember to backup any data before hand JIC http://www.twocanoes.com/winclone/
