Boot Camp Black Screen

Hi, I recently tried to use boot camp on a mac pro (MacPro2,1) and got the windows support files from a 3rd party website and put the contents of the dmg onto a thumb drive and plugged it in and inserted the windows 7 disc, ran boot camp assistant and unchecked "download latest windows support software from apple" and then selected my separate hardrive from the menu and clicked continue, then it shut down the mac and rebooted to what i was pretty sure that was the windows 7 disc but it was just a black screen and my monitor said it was going to sleep.  Help!
See ya!

you will have trouble with 64-bit Windows
why 3rd party site for drivers?
remove all the drives but the one that Windows will use

  • 285 GTX Mac and Windows XP booting with Boot Camp - Black Screen

I decided to update my 8800GT to the newer 285 GTX. Loaded the drivers, a must first, then installed the card. Booted the Mac and wow what an inprovement.
Here's where the problems start. I used Boot Camp to boot to my Windows XP 32 install in Bay 2. Got the Windows Start Up screen then nothing but black.
I reinstalled my 8800 GT and restarted the computer. I installed the latest nVidia drivers (190.38) in XP.
I reinstalled the 285 GTX and tries again. Mac worked fine when I restarted in XP got the Windows startup screen then nothing but black.
I could use some answers to solve this problem. I believe the 285 is supposed to work booting Windows from Boot Camp but I can't figure out how to make it work.
    Thanks in Advance

I know I saw, and tried to help, someone else with the same questions. At that time I think tried to get them to use Driver Sweeper 2.0 and really uninstall drivers and any leftovers.
So there should be another thread here, but maybe also on eVGA forum.
And it doesn't make sense, unless XP or even Apple's leftover Boot Camp drivers. So look for Driver Sweeper 2.0, works better; and there is a thread on evga for removing graphic driver and upgrade.

  • HT1492 windows 7 boot camp black screen after install

    Hi,
I have installed bootcamp on a 2010 white macbook with os 10.7
Windows 7 was install all the updates for apple and windows where completed. Everything was looking good and running great. This is my work computer and it has run boot camp previously on another macbook with the same specs.
When I restarted the computer to comfirm that all was good with both partitions the mac is running great, but the windows just locks on the black screen, no cursor, no windows starting.
I tried to start with the install disk in but after the black and white instruction screen the computer went back to the black screen.
I deleted the windows partition and tried to re-install but just got the black screen straight away and it will not even load.
When i did this I noticed that Parallels had been install on the computer I tried to start it and the windows 7 is asking for the install disk to be inserted and restarted to fix problems. I insert the disk and tried to restart but nothing happened again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. As i need to do school reports over the next week!
    Thanks LC

Did you create a snapshot of Windows in Parallels to fall back onto if it won't work?
It sounds like to me you didn't pass validation, did you ignore those warning bubbles in the bottom corner?
Take the machine to a local PC/Mac geek and have them find the problem, it's too involved to go into here.

  • Boot Camp - Black Screen after installing Windows 7

    Hello guys!
I have tried to install Windows 7 several times and so far no success.
Everything goes fine until I complete Win7 installation.
Then when I install Boot camp drivers the computer prompts for reboot.
After the login screen, I am able to log in, but the screen turns into BLACK!.
And I cannot do anything but shut it down with the power button. I can still hear that the laptop is on, but screen stays black.
I have tried removing the ATI and NVIDIA Drivers as recommended in this forum:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=840528
But so far I get the same result over an over.
Anybody is facing the same issue?
    I have MACBOOK PRO
    MAC OS X 10.6.8
    AMD Radeon HD 6490M (ATI)
    Intel HD Graphics 3000
Quad Core i7 Chip, 4GB RAM 500GB HD
    Please Help!!

I did install : Display Driver +  Catalyst Control Center dowloaded from AMD support website:
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/bootcamp-win7.aspx
The result is still the same - BLACK SCREEN
I rolled back to initial configuration.
Then I installed the AMD driver.
In device manager it shows as the AMD  Radeon HD 6490M driver for the display/Graphics card
Everythig is fine until I install the Boot camp drivers.
Then after the reboot I face the same issue.
However the driver for AMD still stays there in the devive manager.
    Any other ideas, suggestions?
    thanks!!

  • Boot Camp black screen unable to boot Win7

So I decided to do some tomfoolery with my 2011 27" iMac and installed a SSD alongside the HDD in the computer. The original HDD partition setup was:
    HDD
    1. Macintosh HD
    2. Bootcamp
After installing the SSD I partitioned it into two, copied over the boot camp partition (using clonezilla), deleted all the partitions on the HDD and created a fusion drive with a separate bootcamp partition. Both drives partitioning should be as follows:
    SSD
    1. Fusion HD SSD portion
    2. Bootcamp
    HD
    1. Fusion HD HDD portion
I think there's a recovery HD partition on the HD, but I don't see it when booting and holding down option.
My issue is windows will not boot any longer. I can see the bootcamp partition and files in Mac OS X Mavericks, I can select bootcamp from startup disk, but when booting all I get is a black screen with a blinking cursor. I've tried multiple things to fix this, but still with no luck. I've run the windows 7 boot disk repair tool, including bootrec and chkdsk.
    I do have gdisk installed.

Am I attempting something currently impossible? It seems odd that I cannot get the installation of windows to become bootable again.
    Any help is appreciated.

Yep, me too. Tech support told me to find a Mac display to connect to in order to get the Windows disk to boot. They said it's a "chicken and egg thing". The Windows side needs the driver for the non-Mac display in order to boot the disk, but the driver is on the OS X disk which is run AFTER the Windows software is installed. Personally, I think it's false advertising, this no-problem-use-your-existing-peripherals Mac Mini. The Tech guy tried to sell me a new Mac display. At $1000 after tax for the display, suddenly I wondering why I didn't just buy an iMac?

  • Boot camp black screen with blip

So i was installing windows 7using boot camp, everything was going well  intell i got to pick which drive to install. it stated installing the  files then said files cant be loaded. I tryed to repeat the process but  got the same message. So i restarted my mac, now its just sitting at a  black screen with a blip in the upper left cornor of the screen like if i  was to type something. Iv restarted serveral times, and its the same  screen. I cant get back to the windows start screen or my mac screen. i read one a post with a similar problem but it says to take out the windows disk in the drive, i wont let me force eject it or even eject normaly. What can i do?

And you don't know how to get back to OSX? Did you read the Boot Camp directions (they are on the first screen in Boot Camp Assistant)
Reboot, as soon as you hear the startup chime press and hold the option key, when the startup manager appears select OSX.
    Then read the instructions.
And tell me how you installed the Support Software, plus where you got it from?

  • Windows not loading properly in boot camp, black screen

    Hi guys,
having problems with bootcamp, running the latest version under snow leopard on an intel mac mini
i bought a copy of XP on ebay, to my dismay, what i actually got in the post was a recovery disk for a dell laptop, and a product key. Although probably illegal to sell to me, it was able to install over the top of my windows 2000 install i did with Parallels. installing to bootcamp as the disk drive is named with a different letter each time i start the virtual machine, causing havoc with games that require the cd to be in the drive, and not knowing where to look for the disc.
I partitioned the drive, and installed windows. once that had finished, it rebooted automatically. but now, whenever i boot up windows under botcamp, i am presented with a black screen with a flashing cursor. i cannot type anything, or bypass it. if the xp disk is in the drive, it says press any key to boot windows from the cd, but pressing any key does not result in anything happening, and so i have to hold the power button down to do an emergency restart.
does anyone know where i might have gone wrong?

solved, by using a windows service pack 2 cd, instead of service pack 3. not sure why the later service pack would not install properly

  • Boot Camp: Black Screen when installing Windows 7

Hey guys, I have an intel 27' iMac. 4 days ago I removed windows 7 because there was an issue with the system (it didn't let me run Maya), so I attempted to install windows 7 again, but the problem was that my internal disk drive doesn't work. (Tried multiple ways of fixing it) Then I bought an external disk drive, hoping that this would fix everything, I was able to partition my windows 7, but when the mac restarts for the first time I'm introduced by a black screen with a small blinking dash top-left of the screen. So I found a fix for it, I got a USB renamed it to MBRFAT or MRBFAT don't remember exactly (I'm on a different computer) and did everything the internet told me to do. To my surprise, it made the blinking dash disappear, but I was introduced with yet another error. Bootmgr is missing, these 4 days were filled with complete bad luck. Please help me out here.
Too long; didn't read version: When the iMac restarts for the first time, a black screen appears with a Bootmgr error, telling me to press any key, although I keep pressing it on my USB mac keyboard nothing happens.

  • Windows 7 Boot Camp Black Screen?

    Hi,
I know there are a lot of topics about this around the forums, but I'm having a great deal of trouble installing Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro, and none of the solutions I have found are working for me. What's happening is I can make a new Windows 7 partition and press install, but when the computer restarts, it boots to a black/grey screen with no visible activity.  Sometimes I can get as far as "loading windows files" or something to that effect, but it always freezes on the screen with that loading bar full.  I have been trying to solve this for quite some time but no solutions have proved effective.
My specs, in case it helps:
    15-Inch, Late-2008, Macbook Pro
    Nvidia GeForce 9400M 256 MB
    10.7.2
    MATSHITA DVD-R   UJ-868
I am using a retail copy of Windows 7 home premium.
Any Advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Boot Camp: Early 2011 MacBook Pro boots to black screen with blinking cursor after windows 7 installation.

I bought and downloaded the windows 7 ultimate edition 64 bit iso, then proceeded to perform a correct burn to a DVD one at the slowest speed and one at the fastest. all went well. so I open Boot Camp assistant and follow the instructions to the letter, downloaded the driver support to the flash drive. partitioned my drive with more than enough room 150 gb. its starts its install. I get through everything seamlessly where I put in my info all with the exception of my activation code. yet it still continues to finalize the install and does another restart. boots back up to either A. black screen saying press any key to boot to my install disk. B. if I take it out just a white curser. also I read it may be because I had the flash drive in while I was trying to boot so I removed it as well, same result. any input would be much appreciated.

  • Macbook Pro boot shows black screen with white text cursor

    Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro 7,1 MC374xx/A running Mavericks.  My box has two internal hard drives in it.  One had the Mac OS installed to it, and the other has absolutely nothing on it.  I decided to give Boot Camp Assistant a try and chose the hard drive with nothing on it to install Windows on.  I also had an external USB DVD drive attached with the Windows 7 installation disc on it.
So, next thing ya know, my Mac reboots and loads a black screen that says "Memory Overload." I take out the external USB drive and restart.  Then it said, "No boot devices found."  Now for whatever reason, it's just a black screen with a white text cursor.
    What the heck happened?
I selected command R and confirmed that I installed Boot Camp on the right hard drive (the drive that did not contain my Mac OS).  Then, I completely erased everything from the drive with Boot Camp on it.  But still..black screen with white text cursor.
I have no Time Machine backups available so I'm forced to reinstall the OS.  Any idea why this happened?  It seems I must have attempted to install Boot Camp improperly.  Any ideas or instructions on what to do now or how to install Boot Camp successfully on the Macbook Pro I own?
    Earnestly,
    Speck

  • Lenovo G560 - Issue with won't boot and black screen after HDD upgrade

Lenovo G560 - Issue with won't boot and black screen after HDD upgrade.
What happen: My laptop was working fine, no blue screen issue, no funny business at all. I bought a new SSD Intel 120 GB and thought it would be a good idea to replace the HDD. I shutdown and disconnected the power adapter, waited a couple of minutes and removed the battery. I opened up the back case and replaced the HDD. And put all the screws back and put the battery back in.
Problem: The very first time I turned the power on, nothing happens besides a black screen. I pressed the dvd drive it works and opens up and closes. I waited for about 30 mins and still has blac screen. When I mean black screen, no bios menu, no logo, just a black screen with the fan sound on.
    I have tried these:
    1. Unplugged everything - battery, adapter, and pressed the power on button for about 60 seconds, nothing, the laptop turns on with the LED display on for both on and battery LED's. But nothing but black screen, no sound of windows loading just the fan and black screen.
    2. I tried putting back my old 2.5" and nothing but black screen.
    Thoughts and suggestions?

  • Mac Pro early 2008 boots to black screen

Four times out of five, on average, the Mac boots to a black screen -- a 30" Cinema Display.
I believe the computer is booting all the way up, because I have the front power button set to put the computer to sleep, and when I manually power down the machine using the power button, the Mac will go to sleep first.
Also, the Mac will go into Firewire disk mode when connected to my MacBook.
The "boot-to-black-screen" occurs from cold or warm boots.
I've tried both 10.5 and 10.6 OS -- no difference, results the same on both.
    Here's what I've tried:
Reinstalling and updating OS both 10.5 and 10.6
    Diskwarrior
    PRAM zap
Pulling all USB and firewire peripherals off the computer (except the Apple Wired Keyboard that shipped with the PC) -- Mac promptly booted to black screen, so peripherals are not the issue.
Changing displays (in this case, a Samsung 17") -- same result
I have tried booting to the Apple Hardware Test on my commercial Leopard DVD and Snow Leopard DVD, but the machine will not boot to this (the Leopard disk will boot the AHT on other Macs). I no longer have the original CDs that shipped with the Mac.
I've suspected the video card, but according to other posts, apparently this is not the cause.
I'm now suspecting a motherboard firmware issue.
Before this, the Mac Pro was having a related issue pertaining to VMWare Fusion, wherein the Mac would occasionally not wake from sleep, logging a VMWare Fusion kernel crash.
For the moment, I'm not shutting down the Mac Pro, just turning off the Cinema Display. I've left this computer running for up to two months without a reboot, so I'm confident that it will stay up and remain stable.

I'll watch to see if you get an answer. I have a late 2008 Mac Book Pro 15 with the same problem. It boots xp good every time. But I often need to use external monitor to gain control of the OSX boot. It gives tone, shows gray, shows apple and gear the short blue and then strait to black and front LED seems to indicate sleep. Very frustrating. Happens on both use best graphics and conserve battery display settings. Tried the reset pram, safe boot, save boot verbose. All no good.

  • MacBook Pro Boot Camp Windows XP-SP3 Win only restarts boot to black screen

i have a new install of 10.6.1 w/boot camp running an sp3 updated xp version. I have completed the same install on a more new MacBook Pro 15" with no issue, however my mbp 2.33Ghz aluminium has restart problems but ONLY when doing a "restart" from the running xp os. again only when i am running from xp alone, and only when doing a restart (which is all the **** time for xp) does my mbp 1st do a normal apple chime and then hang to a black screen.
once i power down, hit the power button and restart, do i get a normal blue/grey screen, apple chime and the option to boot to macos or my windows partition. the same restart when running macos brings the grey/blue screen up right away.
seems to me there must be something off about doing a restart from windows.
has anyone seen this? any recommendations for diagnostics or a solution would be most appreciated!

never mind, i blitzed the xp drive and reinstalled. 3rd times a charm

  • Windows Boots to Black Screen w/Blinking white cursor, and then...

I installed a new OCZ sata II SSD in my iMac 27' mid-2010.  I bought the cables and pressure wall from an AASP, so it's all Apple in there except for the OCZ drive. The 2TB internal drive (factory) is in there, too.
Installed SL to the SSD and updated to 10.6.8 and man, does this machine fly now!
So I used Boot Camp to create a windows partition, 40GB on the SSD, then went through the WIndows 7 install process.  My WIndows disc is a retail copy - totally legit.
So the installer finishes, and I used the disc that came with the iMac to install the Boot Camp drivers (vs 3.1)
Then Windows restarts and - fail
Black screen with blinking white cursor.  Tried the command fixes to the MBR - no joy.
Here is the weird thing: if I put the Windows installer in the optical drive, then boot to the Startup Disk Manager (holding down option at power up) I can select the installer dvd, and when the prompt comes up "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD" if I just leave it for a moment, the operating system boots from the SSD.
Weird.  But, thats what I've been doing as a workaround.  That and using Fusion to reach over to the Boot Camp partition and run it as a virtual machine (which works just fine).
Anybody know how to fix this?
    Thanks!
    Jason

    I FOUND My answer.
I opened the iMac back up and swapped the SATA data cables so that the cable designated for the factory installed internal HD led to my self-installed SSD - now it works as it should.
No errors on the internal HD either.
I beleive that EFI looks for the Windows MBR to be on the 1st drive bay.  If I had modified my system by patching the MBR or EFI somehow I guess I could have got it to work, but as it is the cables reached and all is well.
As an aside, I came to this deduction when I removed the internal HD from the iMac and tried to boot from the SSD WIN7 partition and still could not.  Then I took the same SSD out and popped it into my MBPro and it worked.  My guess was that somehow the presence of another internal HD of any kind was confusing the boot loader, but I now believe it is the drive bay designation.
Hope this helps someone else who has added a SSD to their single drive iMac mid-2010
