Boot Camp disappeared under 'my devices'

I tried moving the Boot Camp shortcut for simpler switching from mac to windows onto my Dock (not sure if this is the correct term, new to macs) next to the system preferences icon and it disappeared from both the devices tab and didn't show up on my dock, now I can't even find it under the 'finder' feature. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To what shortcut are you referring? Aliases need to go on the right side of the Dock. Is the alias to which are referring one that was on the Desktop or one in the Finder's sidebar?
Items in the sidebar will disappear if you drag them from the sidebar. If you drag a Desktop alias onto the wrong side of the Dock it may have just moved behind the Dock. Open Dock preferences and select the option to hide the Dock. When it's hidden you can see if the Desktop alias is behind it.

  • Boot camp shows 'no bootable device...' on restart

Hi, have had my new Imac a week or so, late 2013 Intel based with new OS etc, working fine with the OS so decided to install Win7 using boot camp.
The system in OS went fine, downloaded the drivers etc onto a USB stick, started the boot camp software, the Imac restarted but is hung at 'No bootable device--- insert boot disk and press any key' now the stupid amongst us would ask where the 'any key' is but you have probably heard that one before.
I cannot reload Mac OS either, unless there is a secret key stroke sequence out there , is there ?
I have an external drive which has been working fine for some time, a win7 64bit disc, which when inserted into the exetrnal dvd drieve does nothing, it flashes a couple of times but comes back with the same message.
Good job I kept my trusty old Pc so I could post this
Please help before I lose my sense of humour.
    Thanks
    Eric

Remove all external devices when you try to boot. The system does not know which device to boot from when you have multiple devices (usb stick, external drive, etc.) attached. You only attach the device required for the specific step of the Boot Camp process you are currently performing.
To boot back into OSx the key sequence is to press and hold the option key when powering up the computer. You can set the default boot OS after you get Windows working.

  • OSX 10.5, Boot Camp, XP, Magic Mouse, Device Mgr Code 43 error on Bluetooth

I'm running Boot Camp and XP on my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.5) and my Bluetooth has stopped working - on the Device Manager I'm getting a yellow '!' next to the "Apple Built-in Bluetooth" symbol in the Device Manager which reports that Windows has stopped the Bluetooth device because it has problems (Code 43).
This is how it happened...I had a Logitech mouse that wasn't working vey well so I bought the Magic Mouse (at enormous cost!!!). I installed it on the Mac OS no problem but when it came to run it on XP, although it could see the mouse and pair to it, when you moved the mouse the pointer on the screen wouldn't move.
I then found out about the Boot Camp 2.2 update which I installed okay. In fact this cured a problem I had had with the tab key on my wireless keyboard erroneously giving a '-' sign. However, it did not make the mouse work so I tried removing all the old Logitech software and drivers at which point Bluetooth stopped working completely giving the error described above.
Has anyone any idea how I can get this fixed? Any help much appreciated.
    Nigel

I got this to work. I found that restarting didn't make any difference but the problem seemed to be such a low-level hardware issue that I tried switching the Mac off (and removing the battery for good measure) and then restarting XP again worked. When I did this, I got a message saying that the machine had found lots new hardware starting with the 'Microsoft BT Emulator'.
The mouse still doesn't give me all the functions I have with the Mac OS but that's fine as far as I'm concerned.

  • Boot Camp disappeared

I have a XP partition that was built by Boot Camp and everything worked great for over a year. All of a sudden boot camp is missing both in XP and in the Mac partition. Now XP won't boot normally. Luckily I just backed up everything because I want to install Win 7. I had XP set as the default drive to boot, so now I have to hold down the Option key to boot Mac. Why would the Boot Camp assistant be missing too. This happened after Mac upgraded itself and one file was an upgrade for Boot Camp.
What happened? Also Mac is running very slow. I did a Verify Disk and it reported everything is OK.
I really don't know much about Mac to figure out what is going on.
Also how do I upgrade my Mac OS. Is Snow any better than X 10.5.8 or should I just upgrade to the latest X OS.

Snow Leopard speeds up a lot of functions but does tend to come with more bugs because it is almost a total rewrite of MacOSX. At v10.6.2 now, some of the bugs are gone. I wouldn't use anything else.
Also Snow Leopard brings you Boot Camp Assistant 3 and updated drivers on the SL install DVD.

  • Will Boot camp disappear again when update to OSX 10.10.1?

Hi, I just recover the boot camp bugs in Yosemite 10.10, and now Apple is asking to update to 10.10.1, will it affect the Boot camp again? Anyone can verify this?
    Thanks

but I'm not sure the Bootcamp partition can be backed up in the same way.
You will either need to back up Windows to an external NTFS partition, or use Winclone.
Are the developers of OS X aware of these problems?
There is enough evidence to show the problems. Some users have contacted Apple Tech Support.

  • Is anybody else struggling with an intermittent connection when using the Magic Mouse/Trackpad ONLY on Boot Camp?

    Hi,
I've seen thousands of posts about Bluetooth connection issues and interference and stutter/lag for both the Magic Mouse and Trackpad (affecting both Mac OS X and Windows under Boot Camp) but my problem is different.
To summarise my setup, I use:
    - Retina MacBook Pro (lid closed or open, doesn't make a difference to this problem)
    - Thunderbolt Display
    - Wireless Keyboard
    - Magic Trackpad (have also tried a Magic Mouse and experience similar issues to the Trackpad)
And in Mac OS X, everything works perfectly. The keyboard and trackpad work smoothly when I'm 6-7 metres from the machine, whether or not the laptop lid is open or closed, and whether or not the Thunderbold Display is connected.
But on to my problem: the bluetooth connection is incredibly unreliable/intermittent when in Windows (I run Windows 7 64-bit and Boot Camp 4.0, and got both devices connected without any trouble via Bluetooth).
But during usage, the cursor stutters/lags frequently, and tap to click (when enabled) seems to get triggered by mistake all the time (even when I'm not touching the Trackpad or even at the computer, clicks get registered).
The Wireless Keyboard is perfect, and works well 5 metres from the machine. The Mouse and Trackpad, though, don't even work reliably when they are 6 inches from the machine. The built-in trackpad on the laptop works perfectly too, in Windows and Mac.
I spent a week assuming I was suffering from Bluetooth interference, so I tried:
    - using the laptop with the lid open
    - removing the Thunderbolt display completely and trying the Magic Trackpad
    - repositioning items on my desk
    - disabling wifi
All of these adjustments made minor differences to how good/bad the Trackpad was, but none came close to fixing the problem or making it work as smoothly as under Mac OS X. It was only after doing all of this that I realised perhaps it was just a Apple driver for Windows issue, so I booted into Mac OS X and tested everything out, and sure enough, it's all perfect. But back into Windows, the Trackpad doesn't work reliably at all.
Obviously, the hardware is not at fault, and I assume the signal strength doesn't vary between operating system (why would it?) so I'm left believing this must be a driver issue. The TrackPad and Magic Mouse drivers have been out for a couple of years, so I'm surprised they can still be this bad. I tried both the latest driver from Boot Camp 4.0 (3.2.0.0) for the Trackpad, and also the older one from Boot Camp 3.2 (3.1.0.7) and both are equally bad for me.
So my question is: has anybody else struggled with using the Trackpad (or Magic Mouse) with Boot Camp 4.0 and Windows 7 64-bit, whilst finding it to be perfect under Mac OS? I haven't found many posts complaining about the Windows driver, which is why I assumed it was an interference issue. But I'm almost sure it isn't, having spent 2 weeks investigating.
    Any thoughts/suggestions/answers much appreciated!
    Kyle

    SOLVED!
After much testing, I have found the cause of lagging/jumpiness on the Bluetooth Magic Mouse and Magic TrackPad in Boot Camp. Hopefully this will help others:
The drivers for the Broadcom 802.11n Wireless Adapter have a setting called "Bluetooth Collaboration" that is Disabled by default. Enabling this option removes the problem instantly. My Magic Trackpad now works flawlessly, even if I stand 6 metres from the machine. It now works just as well as under Mac OS. The setting can be found under:
Control Panel > Device Manager > Network Adapters > Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter (right click and choose "Properties". Under the "Advanced" tab, highlight the setting named "Bluetooth Collaboration", then change it to Enable. Then click OK.
I narrowed the problem down to the wireless card by disabling ALL startup services and processes for Windows, then re-enabling one by one. As soon as I enabled the Windows Wireless Service, the problem came back. Similarly, disabling the Wireless Card inside the Network and Sharing Center (or Device Manager) removes the problem. This led me to believe it must be a driver issue with the wireless card, since the problem didn't occur with the Magic TrackPad under Mac OS, or on my mother's Windows 7 64-bit computer. So when I went into the Driver Properties to check for an update, I found this setting about Bluetooth Collaboration.
I really hope this helps others trying to use Bluetooth devices under Boot Camp. All Apple notebooks use the Broadcom card (and have done for years), so this driver is installed for almost anybody using Boot Camp on an Apple notebook. I'd assume this problem would affect anybody using Boot Camp + wifi + a Bluetooth device.
    Cheers

  • Boot Camp for Windows 7 64 bit on 21.5" late 2009 iMac

I've read much about installing Windows 7 64 bit on my 21.5" late 2009 iMacs -
    - nevertheless there is some lack of clarity about how to do it right.
    First I read "http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/Boot_Camp_Install-Setup10.6.pdf".
That's all well and good, but nowhere in this document is that "USB storage device trick"
(see "http://support.apple.com/kb/DL995") mentioned! On the other hand, in that DL995
description there's nowhere mentioned that there are additional steps to do afterwards!
OK - first I prepared my USB storage device according to DL995, made a 201GB partition,
inserted the 64 bit Windows 7 DVD and ran the installation without any problems.
Windows works, but brightness and volume controls for example don't work.
(When I press F1 I get Windows help etc.)
I can't find Boot Camp installed under Windows anywhere!
After the same installation on my second 21.5" iMac everything looks identical
with the exception that under "Bluetooth Devices" on one machine there's
"Apple Wireless Keyboard" and "Apple Wireless Mouse" installed - on the other
machine NOT, even tough I've NEVER used Bluetooth devices any of both
machines (just used wired Apple keyboard and USB Trackball).
How can this be? What's wrong?
Before I continue (OS X disc, 3.1 update... if required at all?),
how can I verify that the USB storage device had been used at all?/
How would it look if it wouldn't have been used?
    Thanks for your help!

    Thanks for your reply.
You inserted and ran Apple setup off your OS X DVD once W7 was updated and running?
That adds a bunch of devices and services, OSSwitcher, TimeServices, the Boot Camp
control panel, and would show Boot Camp version 3.0 in Programs control panel.
Yes, I know, but I haven't installed it yet. First I want to make sure that the first
step of the installation (DL995) worked well. on both Macs. Do you know how this
could be verified? What should have been installed from the USB device?
It puzzles me that on my 2nd iMac under "Bluetooth Devices"
"Apple Wireless Keyboard" and "Apple Wireless Mouse"haven't been installed.
Maybe this is a clue, that on that iMac the USB device had been ignored
during windows installation? Or could that have another reason?
This is my problem at the moment.

  • RE: Windows 8 consumer preview vs. DVD driver in Boot Camp

    Hello to the Apple Community
This is my first time accessing the support forums.  I am not a avid computer user and using apple OS is very new to me.  I opted to partition my apple drive to run windows, something that I am more familiar with.  I first had windows 7 and everything was working smooth, then some family members recommended me to upgrade to the windows 8.  Since my upgrade nothing has worked right and the family members who asked me to upgrade blame my troubles on my computer being a macbook pro.
I have resolved many issues by running Boot Camp Mgr under windows 7 compatibility, no my issue is my DVD/Cd Burner.  It simple does not show up in Device managaer or under Computer.  It was working fine for the first day I upgraded, the next day it went caput.  I thought about returning back to windows 7, but I don't have my original disk anymore.   I would like to get this issue resolved, if it can be resolved.  If not I will try to get windows 7 again, though windows 8 is a refreshing change.
    Thank you in advance.

    1. Run Command Prompt as an  Administrator. Type cmd in Windows 8 Metro UI and press cltr+shift+enter
    2. Type following and say enter
    reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
    3. Reboot the system
    4. Verify if the problem has been resolved.

This works.  Unfortunately it has one bad side effect: it will slow your wifi connection down to a crawl. For example: Windows 7 speed test (rMBP, Win7, boot camp, linksys WRT45G router set to g only) with collaboration disabled: up = 17 Mbps, down = 6 Mbps; with collaboration enabled: up = 3 mb/s; down = 5 Mbps.  For me, this was not acceptable, so I kept collaboration disabled.

  • Can my MacBook Pro use boot camp with Windows 7 with BitLocker encryption?

I'm at wit's end with this, and I'm hoping I can get some advice here.  I've read so many forum, posts and reviews that I'm not entirely sure what I can trust.
I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro (MacBookPro8,3). I need to run Windows encrypted for work purposes. It needs to be real windows with full-disk encryption (FDE). The business tools run in boot camp, but not in Parallels, because Parallels doesn't support DirectX 11. I would also benefit greatly from an SSD.
I do not want to do anything hacky like removing the Mac reocovery partition, because I've read that just loading Disk Utility in OS X might mess up your patrition boot tables as it tries to "fix" things. I don't want to have to manually reocover to fix stuff or chance losing data.
I have read (and tried) installing BitLocker on Windows 7 Ultimate under boot camp, but ran into the partition limit on my internal HDD. A maximum of 4 partitions are allowed, and between OS X, its recovery, boot camp, and the Windows partition, all 4 are used.
I have considered one of the following, which may work:
Install OWC's Data Doubler Kit with an additional 240GB SSD (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/DDMBS6E240/). I would replace the internal SuperDrive with the HDD, and install the new SSD on the faster SATA 6G port. Windows would be installed on the SSD and OS X would stay on the HDD.
Replace the internal HDD with a new SSD (keeping the SuperDrive). I would lose OS X altogether and just have Windows installed.
Forget the entire thing and just buy a PC for work.
My thoughts are that with option both options #1 and #2, I don't even know if these setups will allow BitLocker. In both cases, Windows will be the only partition on the drive, so I'm assuming that when BitLocker is installed, there will be room for the new partition it creates. With option #1, I'm pretty sure I'd still be using Boot Camp, but how would that would for option #2? Is boot camp used even though there is no Mac partition? Would I still need to keey the Mac Recovery partition for this to work? I'd probably need to use Boot Camp drivers under Windows, I think.
I'd certainly be interested in using a self-encrypting drive (SED), especially a SSD, but I'm concerned that most of them appear to require TPM or BIOS functions that Mac's EFI does not provide. Such a drive would allow me to drop BitLocker, but I would need to be use the self-encryption actually works on this setup. From what I've read, most of the SED drives will work just fine under EFI, but you won't be able to set or access the encryption password, which pretty much makes these drives unencrypted.
I've read that BitLocker can be configured to use a flash drive as a decryption key, but I haven't been able to test that yet. I'm tried creating bootable flash drives under Windows and OS X, and none of them seem to appear when I access the boot menu (hold option during boot chime). I don't even know if this system supports bootable USB flash drives, or whether they can be used as a BitLocker key under boot camp.
For the record, I have attempted to use an external thunderbolt drive as my Windows partition, but Windows doesn't want to be installed on removable media, and even if it worked, I believe you can only boot OS X from thunderbolt. I do have a second OS X install booting from the thunderbolt drive, so I know that works. Also, FileVault 2 is installed on my OS X partition, and I read something about FV2 using the Recovery partition somehow so you can't remove the recovery partition to make room for BitLocker.
So ... does anyone have any suggestions preferably based on personal experience as to whether options #1 or #2 should work for my needs?
At this point, I'm really thinking I should just bite the bullet and purchase a PC that I will forever look down upon.

Are you using a MacBook Pro? Is everything installed on the same drive?
I would love to know how that install was performed. When I install Windows under boot camp, my MacBook Pro drive ends up with 4 partitions: Mac, Mac Recovery, Windows, and a small partition that I believe is used by boot camp.
Installing BitLocker on Windows requires the creation of a new small partition that Windows will boot off. The small partition is unencrypted, while the primary Windows partition will get encrypted. The following post discusses the maximum partition issue: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22753791#22753791
Has anyone installed Windows through boot camp on it's own drive, and if so, can BitLocker be installed on that without reaching any partition limit? I'm assuming that's possible, but would like to know before I spend hundreds on new hardware.

  • FireWire on Windows 7 (Boot Camp) don't work

    Hi,
I installed Windows 7 on a partition on my Mac (MacBook Pro retina, 15 inch, 2.6, 16 GB ram), for install cubase. I have a Audio Capture (Edriol FA-66), that connect to the computer with FireWire (I have also the Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter), but when I connect the firewire cabel to the Mac, the windows don't reconize the firewire device. I searched that in the web, but I didn't found my problem (I tried to update the "1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller" in the manage devices, but I even don't have a "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers").
I must fix it, because I have to use my Audio Capture (in the cubase).
Tanks for everyone who can help!
    Roi!

By golly, this really fixed it.
I can't fathom how the Boot Camp drivers think it's a good idea to not just install all drivers needed for proper operation of the hardware, but apparently so.
In my case I have a Firewire 400 audio card, M-Audio Firewire 410, which M-Audio can't be bothered making drivers for Mac OS X for anymore, and I need to use it for recording vocals next week on the road.
I purchased a Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adapter with my new MacBook Air 2013, and a Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 cable, and the thing just didn't work when I plugged it in.
I had installed Boot Camp before plugging it in.
I just re-installed all the Boot Camp drivers with the device plugged in, and lo and behold, the device (and the Firewire port in general) was finally recognized.
    It works.
    Thank you!

  • Podcasts no longer appear under ipod device in I tunes library.  I can access podcasts on my ipod but I CANNOT access podcasts on I tunes library.  I have disconnected and reconnected.  I have restored my ipod.  I have checked for updates. What else?

'Podcasts' under Ipod device disappeared in Itunes library.  I can't manage my podcasts on ipod via I tunes library.  I can access the podcasts on my ipod (5th generation), itself. I can access and manage music.   I can add more podcasts to ipod.  The podcast icon reappears with only the newly added podcasts.   When I disconnect ipod and reconnect ipod, 'podcasts' no longer appears under the device.  So I am unable to manage my podcasts on I tunes library which means I can't delete podcasts from I tunes library.  I can only add podcasts. My dad owns a macbook 13" that is around 2 years now and at that time the included os was Tiger. He wants to run windows on his mac beside Tiger, and he don't want to upgrade it to leopard. The thing is that i cannot download Boot Camp Beta any longer. What can i do, can i still finde it somwhere please help, this is so important for him.

    Yes.
You would need to get a hold of the Leopard Installatin Disk. Extract the Boot Camp application from its utilities folder onto to your Tiger running Mac. Run the boot camp application under Tiger and partition the drive. Install Windows. As soon as Windows is installed then you would install the boot camp drivers version 2.0 from the Leopard disk once again on the windows side.

  • Boot Camp Assistant crashes when partitioning drive (exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS)

I run Mountain Lion, a fresh install, brand new Macbook Pro. HD: Samsung 840 Pro 512 GB SSD.
When trying to go through Boot Camp Assistant / Setup it works fine until it wants to repartition my drive. It then quits unexpectedly and returns these errors:
Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x000000000000003c
Everything else on this new machine works like a charm. I checked permissions, verified the disk - no issues whatsoever.
Can anyone help me out with this?

I had the same problem, so I decided the system had too much going on. I stopped Time Machine and unmounted the disc, then I closed every other running program except Boot Camp, disconnected all unnecessary devices, selected the partition size and then didn't touch a thing, just went and made a cup of coffee. When I came back it had started and eventually partitioned fine.

So my speakers pick up sound when I'm playing a video/music/game like for example when a car is outside or something and I have to volume on low you can somewhat hear the static coming from it,
I think it has something to do with the mic but I tried turning it off and disabling it and I still have the problem.

Install the audio driver from the vendor, does it use Cirrius? or RealTek? you need to install an audio driver or package, Boot Camp just provides hardware device so it can be installed later by the end user.
My Mac Pro uses Realtek and easy enough to install, though I've read here that people had trouble on Macs that require Cirrius. But it is up to you.
