Boot camp firmware issue after 5-16-06 update

An SMC firmware update came out on 5-16-06. It is ver. 1.0. This is not the update that must be run to enable Boot Camp. Bootcamp needs iMac firmware updater from 4-17-06 HERE to enable bootcamp. This firmware version is 1.0.1 There's nothing on the website to point this distinction out.

current situation
- I've recovered from external drive (mountain lion 10.8.1 ) which i prepared by Lion Diskmaker before.
Current issues:
1) I have Recovery HD but when I boot from it - Reinstall Mac OS X option is not working
2) I have EFI password and won't be able to clear it as well as reset PRAM
3) Boot Camp Assistant is not working as well with the error in the subject
Any ideas how to fix all of these?

Boot Camp not working after Mavericks update

Hello, I'm new in the communitie. I have a 2011 17" MacBook Pro, I was using MacOS X 10.7 and boot camp with Windows 7. I have updated to Mavericks and after the update my boot camp no longer works. When I hold the option key "Windows" is not showing. Please I need help, at least I need to recover my data.

personally I have gon from lion to mtn lion to Mavericks and never have it effect the windows partition in any way as it's read only for osx and non of the osx upgrades have changed the bootloader as far as I know

You can turn it off by going to Settings > FaceTime and changing "iPhone Cellular Calls" to off

There is no bluetooth connectivity issue after the recent OS update. There may be a problem with your phone, which may or may not be related to the update. A "common problem" looks like this in the forums:
I haven't seen any threads on BlueTooth with over 1.4 million views and over 12,000 replies, or even any vaguely close. For any problem that someone has there is bound to be someone else amoung 150 million users who have it. That doesn't make it a "common problem."
If you tell us what the problem is specifically and what you have done so far to try to resolve it someone can probably help you.

Built-in iSight trouble, think it's Boot Camp/Firmware related.

Lately my iSight has been having issues. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Until recently I didn't couldn't figure out what might be causing it but I now have ideas.
First, symptoms. When I attempt to use my iSight with either iChat or Quicktime, the window which would normally display what my camera sees is black. If I use PhotoBooth it is green. Normally I'd attribute this to another application using my cam but nothing is and I'm not getting a warning about it.
If I reset my MacBook Pro's SMC and restart it sometimes gets it to start working again. Though what seems to be the deal is restarting a few times is a sure way to make it behave.
Now, I run both Parallels and Boot Camp on my laptop and I thought one of those might be the issue. Once I had the cam working again in iChat, Quicktime and PhotoBooth I started up Parallels, fiddled a bit and shut it off then started up iChat. No problems, so I shut it down and booted up into Windows via Boot Camp, fiddled some more and restarted into OS X. After opening iChat I noticed the cam wasn't working once more.
So That pretty much has the main problem isolated. Since it's a Boot Camp issue I figured it might be firmware related since I couldn't think of anything else. I went to Apple's support page to grab the lastest firmware and found this article Listing the firmware I needed as...

...And if the first one is the latest firmware, why does mine appear to be the next version? If I'm backwards on how the numbering should go why isn't anything coming up with software update? Further more, what confused me is I found this SMC firmware update for my MacBook Pro that will put me to SMC firmware version 1.12f10, which also seems to be a later version than listed.
So what I want to know is what should the latest version of firmware for my machine be, where can I get it and, most importantly, is this what is causing the problems with Boot Camp and my iSight?

I've been looking around the web for a while now trying to figure out what the problem is and I now have new symptoms to report.
When I boot up in Safe Mode and try to open Photo Booth it says another program is using my iSight. Now, I know that's not true because I just started up OS X and I haven't started any other programs... I had also just reset my SMC so I don't see how anything is carrying over.
So what I'm now wondering is whether or not there is a way to find out exactly what is using my iSight at any given time? Either via some app (preferred) or if someone has a Terminal script I can copy and paste that will tell me. I can always just flat-out format my computer and try that but I'd rather not since that would take me a little bit to reinstall and update all my apps again. I know that's the final step to try before I bring it to Apple for them to check it out but I don't want to go that far yet.

New Macbook Pro retina boot camp install issue - Windows 7

Trying to complete a boot camp install but can't get past creating a partition. I am able to download the windows drivers through boot camp, it burns them to a DVD, verifies the DVD (couldn't use CD-R as it kept saying burn failure after verifying files) and then takes me to the make a partition page. When i click install the partition, it pops up saying "can't find the installer disc" and wants me to put one in the super drive. What gives? I have that disc in the drive, also tried the Windows 7 disc and got the same error. So basically I can't create a partition to install windows 7 that I have.
Any thoughts?

The disk was from my other PC system, however it is an OEM upgrade disc. Maybe that is the problem but if that is the case why did it work when I installed it through VMware and it worked fine? The disc can be used as a self full install of windows 7. I have also it on another PC with no issues. Trying to convert to Mac finally but this is causing a hiccup.
The next question then is do I really need to go the boot camp way? I only need it to run quickbooks (need windows version for reasons) and a couple of other programs but thought it may run better as a boot camp install rather than VM plus I couldn't figure out how to reduce the size of the partition that VM installs, it takes too much space from me for no reason (60Gb).

Slow restart - blue screen BSOD and Boot Camp restart issue

After Snow Leopard install on Macbook Pro I have experienced a very slow startup and restart. The grey apple screen appears for about 25 secs and then the blue screen hangs for 2mins and 2 secs. Also when restarting from Boot Camp blue screen just stays and restart fails. I waited approx 25 mins and blue screen was still there. I have searched Console system log for clues but am not technically adept. hopefully someone can help. I have copied log below form recent restart (in OSX mode, not boot camp). My Windows Boot camp volume is called ERICGLPC and I can see some issue on the log but unsure what it means.

Boot Camp 2 issues: repartioning; DVD-drive; screen; sound; usb-power

I found various problems in version 2 of Boot Camp (included in Leopard).
1.
After removing the Boot Camp 2 Windows partition, it is impossible to recreate a new Windows partition. Somehow the windows partition is not completely removed (?) and the Boot Camp Assistent goes on forever restoring the Macintosh HD to its original (one partition) state. Strangely, you can just quit the assistant during this process without consequences. Only repartitioning the complete HD using Disk Utility resolves this (this of course requires a complete reinstallation of OS X).
2.
After installation of Windows XP Pro, Windows treats the DVD-drive (OPTIARC DVD RW AD5630-A) as a removable media, just like a USB-memory. This means that you can remove the DVD hardware from the system(using the tray icon "Safe Removal hardware") by just one click. The DVD drive then completely disappears from 'My Computer' even with a CD in! The only way to get the DVD-drive back is by restarting Windows (inserting a disk can be done but it is impossible to access the disk; ejecting the disc is also impossible (the eject key on the mac keyboard doesn't work).
3.
I suspect that there is something wrong with the video driver in windows. This can be noted for instance with the black "moon crater" as the desktop image (lower left corner) or in the windows login-screen (lower blue part of the screen). The issue may be described as pixels varying in brightness and colour in a fast way. Pixels are not "constant" and it seems like a wave is moving over these parts of the screen. It seems more or less comparable to the problems reported with Boot Camp beta 1.4 on MPB's.
4.
I also suspect the windows sound driver (RealTek) not to be ok. Every Windows sound (startup Chime, warning, etc.) is followed by a strange electronic sound, as if the sound is echoing while fading away. I did not try to play an audio CD, but I think this may result in a not so pleasant experience.
5.
When I connect my 2 GB Kingston USB-memory to the internal hub of the new apple keyboard, Windows starts complaining that there is not sufficient power. The same configuration works without problems under Mac OS X.
Has anyone similar experiences? To me it seems like Boot Camp is still in beta stage....

It's exactly the same as described by HLO-HL. As soon as the soundcard gets turned on in Vista (by any program i.e. iTunes, Mediaplayer) there is this background noise. Watching a DVD is almost impossible. Listening to music in iTunes is somewhat ok, but only at high volume (so the background noise cannot be heard) and it is still distorted sometimes.
I tried about everything from installing the latetest Realtek driver, updating the Intel chipset drivers, to changing the bitrates and so on. Still no resolution found. It seems the many others experience the same problem (search for 'distorted sound Vista').

Boot Camp - Black Screen after installing Windows 7

Hello guys!
I have tried to install Windows 7 several times and so far no success.
Everything goes fine until I complete Win7 installation.
Then when I install Boot camp drivers the computer prompts for reboot.
After the login screen, I am able to log in, but the screen turns into BLACK!.
And I cannot do anything but shut it down with the power button. I can still hear that the laptop is on, but screen stays black.
I have tried removing the ATI and NVIDIA Drivers as recommended in this forum:

But so far I get the same result over an over.
Anybody is facing the same issue?

I did install : Display Driver + Catalyst Control Center dowloaded from AMD support website:

The result is still the same - BLACK SCREEN
I rolled back to initial configuration.
Then I installed the AMD driver.
In device manager it shows as the AMD Radeon HD 6490M driver for the display/Graphics card
Everythig is fine until I install the Boot camp drivers.
Then after the reboot I face the same issue.
However the driver for AMD still stays there in the devive manager.
Any other ideas, suggestions?

MacBook Pro Boot Camp Battery Issue

Hi all, I have just installed Vista on my MacBook Pro late 2008 via BootCamp. The thing is that I have very low battery life under Vista (1hr 50mins at 100% battery). Other than that, when I choose "Restart in Mac OS X" in the Boot Camp Utility on Vista, on Mac OS X I have no more than 4 hours battery life. When I shut down and start the MBP with Mac OS X again I now have 5 hours 20 mins battery life marked. I think this is a firmware issue, some hardware resources are not released by Vista or something of the sort? Am I the only one with this problem?

Since Windows uses the 9600M GT the power-draw (wattage) on the battery is alot higher. But even when both OS X and Windows use the same graphic OS X draws less minimum wattage.
XP is a special problem, because the NVidia drivers seem to have a bug that keeps them from clocking down the graphic-card in 2D and make the GPU run at full speed all the time. This does not happen on Vista though.

Windows 7 Boot Camp (Battery Issue)

I've noticed that my MacBook Pro 17" (10.6.7 - Early 2011) it's losing battery under heavy use on my graphic card, even plugged in.
With 100% of battery, after 1 or 2 hours of heavy processing, even plugged on energy, I get about 90% of the battery.
This happens only with Windows 7 on Boot Camp. Mac OS X has no issue regarding battery.
Is this supposed to happen?

That sounds normal. Macs running windows tend to have shorter battery life because windows is not set up to use energy savings like OS X is. You can adjust the settings in control panel but I'm not sure how beneficial that would be. I also heard that Macbook Pros graphic switching capabilities are not usable in windows as the drivers are not done for it.

Boot camp starts SL after a period of time

i have a mac pro that has boot camp xp, boot camp win 7 and snow leopard. on the snow leopard volume i have an installation of paralells 7 with a version of windows 7 in a virtual machine. i /think/ at one point the guys at parallels wired me to boot into the boot camp volume of xp and then we took this off...but i can't recall exactly.
anyway, i have finally found the time to get into XP boot and win 7 boot and tidy things up and i am finding that:
1. i cannot boot directly into the various volumes after holding down the Option Key and instead have to /select/ the volume i want to boot to and then i have to /restart/ to get to that volume.
2. after booting into XP, if i leave the machine running on this OS, i will come back a number of hours later and it will be booted into the Snow Leopard OS which is on a totally different hard drive.
any ideas on what to do here or what is going on?

Boot camp Win7 issue

Hello everyone, I have a new 15" Macbook Pro and am having problems installing Windows 7 via boot camp. I followed the boot camp installation instructions, and am able to get Win7 to install and setup (user name, date/time, etc.) after that, the computer restarts but will not boot into Win7. When I hold option key at startup and select "Windows," the screen turns black with a blinking grey cursor at the top left of the screen, then the computer restarts and thus repeating the issue.
How can I get past this and get Win7 installed and working correctly?
My specs:
15" MBP
OS X 10.8.1
2.3 GHz Core i7
4GB 1600 MHz DDR3
500GB Hard drive
512MB GeForce GT 650M
Windows 7 Home Premium

I don't know, what did you leave out ? partition was too small? allocated 40GB very minimal while 60GB is more reasonable. 20GB will high likelihood fail.
Windows installed updates that conflict (turn off auto updating and review each, and beware of graphic updates from Windows - that is true even on PC).
Do a safe boot or from DVD and try to go back (may be too early to do even that).
ISO burned to DVDs fail.
You have not yet installed the GT 650M driver, but when you do install Apple support you may need to single that one out and do it again on its own manually.

Boot Camp Install Issue

I have a 27 inch Imac using OSX Lion 10.7.3 and I would like to install Bootcamp so I can load Windows 7. When I try to use Bootcamp Assistant I get the following message, "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition." I've gleaned from the forums that I'm going to have to reinitialize the hard drive and reinstall Lion so I can properly use Bootcamp.
Once I reinitialize the drive and reinstall Lion, should I use Bootcamp to create the partition before I restore my Time Machine backup, or should I wait to use Bootcamp until after I've restored my backup? I'm worried that if I wait until after the restore that it would just take me back to "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition." again. But I'm also worried that if I use Bootcamp before the restore that restoring everything will overwrite the partition, Windows install, etc.
I hope this makes sense. Any help would be appreciated.
