Boot Camp, How to switch back to Mac OS X from Windows?

I successfully installed boot camp and Vista on my imac so I could watch netflix on my computer (other than that I have no use or patience for Vista or Windows). Now, I am in Windows Vista and am unable to switch back to Mac OS X. I have looked everywhere, including the Windows Help and Support and I can't see how to close Windows and get back to the good side.

Open the Control Panel, click on Startup Disk, and change the setting; this item will only appear if the Boot Camp drivers are installed. Alternatively, restart the computer with the X or Option keys held down; in the second case, select the Mac OS X system, push the button with the straight arrow, and change the startup disk from System Preferences afterwards.

  • HT1533 How can I switch back to Mac OS X from Windows 7 Bootcamp?

I'm having problem switching back to Mac OS on my Macbook Air.  It's currently running Windows 7 bootcamp without a Mac OS installed with it.  I tried booting up on Mac OSX installer disc (Snow Leopard) on the external CDROM drive but it boots to Windows instead.  I tried the Boot Camp Control Panel on Windows and Restart to Mac OS X but it could not find an OS X intalled and I tried changing the startup disc to the installation disc on the CDROM and restarted but still goes to Windows.
    Please HELP!
    Thank you.

The MBA did not ship with an OS on DVD because they don't have an optical drive. There are two kinds of OS disks - commercial release, which for Snow Leopard is 10.6.3 I believe, and machine specific. If your SL disk is gray it isn't going to boot your MBA because it isn't made for the MBA. If your SL disk has a cat on it look at what specific version it is. As I said, I think it is 10.6.3 and while I wasn't able to find out what specific OS version your MBA shipped with, I'm pretty sure it was a version later than 10.6.3 and if I'm right your disk isn't going to boot the computer. You'll need to either contact Apple for a valid replacement installer or find someone with a Mac who can make a valid installer on a USB drive or DVD.

  • Switch back to Mac OS X from Windows 7

I got a MacBook Core Duo 2.0 13" (White). This was originally my cousin's and she gave it to her parents but her parents installed Windows 7 and they cannot get it switched back to Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.8).
I have been searching over the internet on how to install the Snow Leopard OS back as I have the disk installer. But the problem is, the machine ejects the disk. I tied to do internet recovery but only Windows appear so that means Mac is really gone in this machine, also tried to boot it on disk reboot (start then hold the letter C) to no avail.
Would you happen to know how I can switch back the OS to Mac from windows 7 without me going to the Apple Store?
I am not tech savvy. I would need dummy-like instructions.
    Thank you so much!!

One way would be to boot into internet recovery, and then see if you can format the disk (back to MacOS formats) and then install MacOS again.  After that, update to the latest you can, and you're all set.
(Basically, the same advice as Allan's, but you could try internet recovery if you wanted to ensure you were using the latest OS and installer bits that you could...)

  • How to switch back to mac, i am stuck in windows 8?

i just installed the windows 8 using boot camp in my macbook pro mid 2012 model. in the boot camp assistant there are 3 checklist.. i did not check the download windows support software. but i successfully installed windows 8 in my mac. now i am stuck in windows 8. and i cannot return back to mac.. PLEASE HELP.
i already tried the option key. it did not work

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Press X key to start in OS X. Also, Windows 8 isn't compatible with Boot Camp, so you could have problems with that edition. If you can't start in OS X after pressing X key, probably you deleted OS X volume, so you have to reinstall Mountain Lion

  • How to change  FAT to  NFTS for Windows 7  Boot Camp                                                                                  How to change Fat to NFTS on BootCamp for Windows 7

When I try to start BootCamp for Windows 7, I cannot change FAT to NTFS. I have created CDS for BootCamp upgrades 3.1 3.2 and 3.3.
Can't use them with Windows 7 disc in player. What to do?

Boot Camp creates a partition for you to install Windows into. Typically if you chose a size less than 32GB it will initially be FAT32, if bigger it will be NTFS. However what it is, is rather irrelevant. When you install Windows 7 it only allows using NTFS for a boot drive and it will automatically reformat that partition to NTFS if needed.

  • I partitioned my Mac Book so I could have windows and now i don't know how to switch back it also doesn't tell me what I want to use when I reboot it. How do I switch back to OS X?

I partitioned my Mac Book so I could have windows and now i don't know how to switch back it also doesn't ask me what I want to use when I reboot it. How do I switch back to OS X?

At startuo hold down the Option key. That will bring up a boot menu screen.

  • After I've switched back to mac (from windows on the mac) will it allow me to go back to windows? if so how?

i have installed windows onto my mac and know how to get back o mac after that, but will it let me go back to windows after selecting mac?

If you just changed the startup disk setting, use the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences or restart with the Option key held down.
If you removed the Boot Camp partition, you'll need to create a new one first.

  • Dual boot OSX and 9.2, how to switch back to OSX?

    Hi Guys,
I am brand new to Mac. I was given this iMac Power Mac 750 600Mhz with 256MB memory and a 80G hard drive. When I got it, it boots to OS X and I don't know what I did (maybe because I plugged in a USB hard drive) but it started to boot to OS 9.2 now, and I don't know how to switch back to OS X.
I remember, when I plugged in the USB flash key, it was running OS X, and it asked me to hold on the power button for several seconds to reboot, I followed that, and it boots to 9.2 ever since.
How do I make it boot to OSX?
    Thanks!

  • MacBook pro does not start. How can I back to Mac OS X Lion?

I have a MacBook Pro. On my MacBook i made three partition, then I installed window 8. After that I started windos and try to delete third partition by Administrator tool from windows operating system. After that my MacBook does not start. How can I back to Mac OS X Lion?
After that I again install windows 8 from a DVD. Windows start well, but I can not start Mac OS system, may be it was 10.6.  Sever times I tried to install OS X Lion 10.7 thought DVD, I could not. On MacBook I have a lot of important data.
What can I do. I want to a complete suggestion. Please help me to solve the problem.
My MacBook Pro model no. A1286.

You installed Windows improperly the result of which was to wipe out the bootloader for OS X. You can give this a try:
    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
          "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the OS X disk icon from which you want to boot.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.
If you are still unable to boot from the OS X volume then you will need to reinstall OS X:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
This will destroy the Windows bootloader so you cannot boot into Windows. The solution is to remove all the partitions on the drive except the OS X partition, then expand the OS X partition to take up the entire drive.
Use Boot Camp Assistant in the Utilities folder to create a Windows partition on which you can install Windows. You cannot have any other partitions on the drive besides these two.
Now given all the above you may be able to install a third-party bootloader that would work with the setup you now have: Boot Runner 1.4.

It sounds like you destroyed your boot partition and the recovery partition.  Depending on it's age, your MacBook Air might be able to do a net boot.  Plug and ethernet connection into it and attempt to boot.  If it has the right firmware, it will find a net boot configuration on the net and boot that.  Then it will give you a Recovery Partition like display and allow you to reinstall the OS X version that came with it.... assuming that it was Lion or ML.  If your computer came with Snow Leopard, then even the net boot won't work.
At that point you need a bootable USB Key, or an external DVD drive AND a Snow Leopard installation DVD.
An Apple Store, if there is one nearby, MAY be able to get you going again.  However, whatever is on the SSD now will be toast too.

  • HT3986 I accidentally removed lion on boot camp how can I recover

I accidentally removed my Mac operating system when installing windows 7 on boot camp how can I recover

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you have a Mid 2010 MacBook, you can use Internet Recovery to reinstall OS X > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Start your MacBook holding Command, Option (Alt) and R keys. Then, open Disk Utility, choose your hard drive at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk. Then, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X.
You will have to install Windows again after installing Mac OS X Lion. Follow these steps to reinstall Windows > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf
If you have an old MacBook, use the Snow Leopard DVD to reinstall Mac OS X. Start your computer holding the C key while your computer is starting. Select the language, go to Utilities menu > Disk Utility, and follow the steps I have given you

  • Cannot access Mac OS Partition from windows 8 running in boot camp

So I installed Windows 8.1 Pro through Boot Camp but I can't access the Mac OS partition from windows even though boot camp partition shows up while I'm on Mac OS. I have installed all the drivers from apple but still it didn't work. Then I downloaded Paragon HFS+ which was free for windows 8 and 8.1 thinking that this would solve my problem. The instructions told me to change the drive letter for mac partition from disk management by right clicking the drive pressing "change drive letter and path" button. But the "change drive letter and path" key in grey color and I can't press it. Can somebody please help?
