Boot Camp in Yosemite can't see Macintosh HD
I have a 27" Late 2012 iMac with a 1TB Fusion drive running Yosemite 10.10.1 and Boot Camp with Windows 7 (which I just installed). My previous Boot Camp installations were all able to see the Macintosh HD from Windows 7 using the Boot Camp HFS+ driver (installed with the Support Software package). This installation cannot.
I thought that maybe I didn't have the HFS+ driver installed correctly, but lo-and-behold, it is: I can see and read external HFS+ drives just fine. It's only the internal drive that I can't read. Windows Disk Management can see that the drive exists but the OS simply can't read it in Explorer.
Could this have something to do with it being a Fusion drive in Yosemite? I've read some comments that may allude to this (though very sketchy and I don't want to put ideas into your head--I need to know the real reason). I'm 99.9% positive that I had Boot Camp on this computer a few months ago and it read the Macintosh HD just fine, though I could be thinking of my previous (Mid 2010) iMac; I can't be sure.
Please help. This is driving me crazy.
Thanks so much!
exactly same problem with Mac Mini 2014 2.6ghz with Yosemite and bootcamp Win 7
before I had a Mac Mini mid 2011 2.5ghz with Yosemite and bootcamp Win 7, I never had this
I didn't tried but maybe I should check with a previous driver for HFS+

Boot Camp after Yosemite, Can't boot
Like others, I can't boot to Windows 7 after Yosemite install. I've followed a couple of Loner T's posts, but I haven't gotten it working yet.
What's a good starting point toI believe I've done it correctly, but it still doesn't work. I can see the partition in Disk Utility but not Finder.
I would be fine reinstalling Windows. But I'm not sure how to get Windows to install on the partition if I erase the current disk5. Yosemite seems to be a bit different then getting it set up on Mavericks.

After i install window 8.1, i can't see window icon in my start up disk, i see only mac icon 10.10, but i can see both mac and win icon in my window boot camp control. i want to see window icon in my mac Yosemite 10.10.2,system preference, start up disk.
Third-party NTFS software interferes with the Apple NTFS drivers, which control whether you can see the Bootcamp partition in the Startup Disk option. As a test, can you uninstall all third-party NTFS software and check System Preferences -> Startup Disk?

Can't see Macintosh HD when trying to reinstall
In short: Trying to reinstall Yosemite after erasing disk, can't see Macintosh HD when asked to select install disk, can I lay see recovery (which is locked). Can see disk under disk utility but no Erase tab visible, only First Aid and Partition tabs. In long: I've just today got my MBA 15", and I spent the day setting up things, including activating FileVault. I encountered the dreaded "connect power adaptor to resume encryption" bug (despite the progress bar having completed and then power adaptor indeed being connected. I thought, since I'd not installed much or put any data on, that the easiest solution was to erase the drive and reinstall OSX from recovery. I booted into recovery -> disk utility, chose the Macintosh HD, and went onto the erase tab. After trying to erase, I was met with an error message. I can't remember the details but I think it mentioned not being able to encrypt. I then went to the Reinstall OSX section, but where there was previously the option to select my Macintosh HD, there was now only my external HD. Going back to the disk utility, I can still see the Macintosh HD but there are now only First Aid and Partition tabs, and everything in the partition tab is greyed out. Rebooting the machine only changed one thing: under Reinstall OSX, when selecting a drive, the recovered rive is now visible (though locked). I'm worried I've bricked my 12 hour old baby, can you help me out? Thanks, Joe
Let me see if I have this straight:
Brand new 15" MacBook Air.
You activated FileVault, and the encryption process "froze" when you encountered a bug.
You decided to erase the drive, and re-install Yosemite, but the installer is not giving you Macintosh HD as an available option.
I've never encountered this bug that you speak of, and I've activated FileVault on several Macs over the years, so I can't speak to it directly.
My suggestion is to ensure you have a reliable power connection (ie. check that the power connector is on straight and there's no metal pieces stuck inside to the magnets), re-erase the drive, and then try install Yosemite again. -
I have a MacBook 10.5.8 with Boot Camp. I can only operate the Windows side. When I move into MacOS it does not open.
Your phrasing is not clear. How do you reboot into Mac OS? /can you describe the process step by step?
Usually, you should do like this:
- while in win, restart
- immediately after chime, press option or alt key
- wait for 2-3 seconds, you should see the boot options
- select Mac OS partition
If you have performed all these steps, and, after choosing Mac OS partition, you cannot boot into Mac OS, then your system is corrupt and should be reinstalled. -
I can´t remove windows partition from my mac because I´can´t select the remove option from boot camp assit. Can any body help me?
open disc utility choose the drive you need partitioning highlight the bootcamp partition and click on the minus sign at the bottom left.
after this manually resize your drive by dragging the partition line all the way down and click on partition. -
My Predicament In Regards to Boot Camp 2.1, can't update from version 2.0
Dear Experienced Boot Camp Users,
I am in the process of readying my Macbook Pro for the 32-Bit version of Windows Vista. Having read all of the documents provided by Apple, I feel fairly confident in my ability to perform this task. However, the 2.1 Boot Camp update won't "mesh" with my current 2.0 version. I've concluded that (perhaps) it is trying to open it with the wrong program and / or can only be updated once Vista is installed. You see, I've successfully downloaded the update, but when I proceed to click on it the Text Edit program expands the code, rather than installing the update. Any and all help in getting my Boot Camp version updated to 2.1 would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, Josh
P.S. I am running the most current version of Leopard, etc.Hi and welcome to Discussions,
the BCUpdate file is a .exe file which you have to run while in Windows.
It is not meant to (and as you experienced will not) run while in OSX Leopard.
Copy the file to an USB-Memory Stick or burn it to a CD-RW for use when you have installed Windows and booted into it.
Regards

Boot camp: partition created can't install windows
I created a 63GB partition.
and during the bootcamp install it rebooted but never opened again and the Mac mini just spun and spun for a while and I then just reset it. though, the screen is black but I can hear the Mac spinning...I reset but this time use the OPTIONS button and it brings me to choices:
My HD, My time machine, windows, recovery, and EFI?
So DUH I choose windows and the screen goes blank, and the system just spins and spins.....
CAn I restart the Bootcamp assistant and jump back in at the INSTALL WINDOWS step?
thanks in advance
WINDOWS-7-64
MACMINI 2011, ( just bought it a few weeks ago)
created the windows support softwareSo let me get this straigt, you went through the installation process for setting up windows7 using the bootcamp assistant.YES. IT CREATED A PARTITION AND AFTER IT FOUND THE WINDOWS INSTALLER AND DID IT'S THING IT SHUT DOWN.
i WAITED FOR IT TO WAKE UP AGAIN BUT THE SCREEN STAYED DARK BUT THE FAN JUST RAN AND RAN. SO AFTER 10 MINS. OR MORE I JUST HELD THE POWER BUTTON IN UNTIL IT SHUT OFF.
TURNED IT BACK ON WITH THE OPTION KEY HELD DOWN.
THE SCREEN OPENS WITH THE FOLLOWING ICONS: HD, TIME MACHINE, WINDOWS, EFI BOOT.
After the set up, you are not able to access windows7 when you start the mac holding down the option button at start up or reboot after selecting the windows os. WINDOWS DID NOT INSTALL.
I NEED TO GET INTO THE PARTITION AND INSTALL WINDOWS.
If you have not been able to acess win7 and have not had a chance to get it up and running with any personal info that would need backing up, just delete the win7 partion using boot camp assistant and start over. Yes, you will have to create your partition all over again, but all that is maybe on it is the basic install of win7.
Make sure you have installed the Windows support software.
WHEN I WENT BACK INTO THE BCA. THE ONLY OPTION WAS TO REMOVE WINDOWS-7. aFTER CLICKING CONTINUE....I SEE THE ICON OF MY HD TO RESTORE TO THE ORIGINAL SIZE...WHICH MEANS IT WILL REMOVE THE PARTITION AND EVERYTHING CURRENTLY ON MY HD NOW----RIGHT?
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME MAN! -
Messed up Boot Camp XP install - can't start up without holding option down
For some reason my XP install via boot camp messed up and so I aborted it.
Now, if I turn on my iMac unattended, I get a black screen with "boot from cd" or something in text.
If I hold down option, obviously I get boot drive options and can choose Mac HD.
I deleted the partition that Boot Camp created via BC. I also specify what my start up drive ought to be in sys prefs.
Disk Utility confirms there is only one partition.
What's annoying is there's obviously some remnants of the XP install lurking on my HD correct?
Any ideas on how to fix/ rid my mac of this affliction?Try this:

I can't see Macintosh HD on windows
I use windows embedded 8.1 industry pro with bootcamp(my device is macbook 15" with retina display mid-2014). And I cant see mac part. I have downloaded paragon hfs+ driver but it didnt worked. what should I do for solving my problem?
The HFS+ driver is silently installed as part of the Bootcamp drivers installation. If you installed a third-party HFS+ driver, it can cause problems. On Yosemite you may not be able to see your OSX partition on the Windows side because of windows 8 does not recognise Macintosh HD, No drive Letter.

[solved] Thinkpad x61 w/ /boot on external USB can't see internal hdd
Hi all,
EDIT: Fixed it. I had to boot the install media and re-run mkinitcpio -p linux. Not sure if I forgot to do that the first time or if something changed...
I have my /boot partition on an external USB key. I installed grub on that key. My main disk is supposed to be encrypted, and is internal in my Thinkpad x61. When I boot with this setup, grub can't find the system disk. I get dumped to a recovery console, and lsblk just shows the USB key.
If I plug the internal drive in via a USB-SATA converter, everything works as it is supposed to.
It seems like when the thinkpad boots from the USB key it isn't turning on the internal drive or making it available to linux. Has anyone seen something like this?
When I boot the arch installation media from USB I can see the internal drive right away. Is there a way to figure out what the installation boot is doing that I'm not on my regular system?
Thanks in advance,
Lefty

Boot camp with xp can't go into stand by
I was trying to put the computer into standby and it entered the "prepare to standby screen" and just froze. Any idea how to fix this?
ThanksYessssssss! It works!!!!!!!
I had the smae problem. When waking up from stand by, XP screen would be completely black, or turn back on for a few seconds with artifacts on the screen, before freezing again, thus needing a hard reboot by holding the power button for a few seconds.
*Here's how I fixed it* : *Disabled Bluetooth radio in device manager*.
+chriswilliams : "i had this same problem on my old macbook pro, the solution i found was turning off the power management for the apple built in bluetooth device in computer management in XP, try it and see, it works for me" === found on === http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8672991+
So! To do this:
Click on:
- My Computer
- System Properties
- Hardware
- Device Manager".
Then right-click on the bluetooth devices and click disable on the Bluetooth radio if you never use it. It worked for me.
IF YOU USE BLUETOOTH, try to just disable the power management options of this device. It might work just as well, but I didn't test it.
I hope it helps.
Thanks chriswilliams and everyone on the forum! -
Dear Experts,
I will explain the problem step by step:
4 days back I ran Disk Cleanup software Onyx that deletes Cookies, Histry, and Unwanted Old files.
I may have choose some option which deleted some important file and since that day my Macbook Pro became slow.
2 days back it started to hang on startup. After startup chime spinning wheel go on spinning for eternity.
After trying all the corrections, yesterday I had to go for fresh install of OS. For that I had to erase earlier installed OS Mavericks. For this I followed below steps:
To Erase I had to restart the Macbook. After Chime I pressed Option key until I came to the disk Option. Then I followed below steps.
1) selected Disk Utility and then clicked Continue
2) Selected Disk (Macintosh HD) from the list on the left and clicked on Erase Tab
3) Selected Mac OS Extended (journaled) from the format pop up menu and clicked on Erase.
After performing above steps when I went back to Disk Utility to install fresh OS, I couldn't find Macintosh HD.
Please help me to over come this issue.
Thanks in advance.FaceTime is included in Lion. The App Store version is for 10.6. If you deleted it, restore it from a backup, or reinstall the Mac OS.

Yosemite can't see connected iPhone in Finder
After upgrading to Yosemite I cannot longer access the iPhone Pictures or Video from the device itself when connected via USB. Basically is nowhere to be found in Finder.
Am I missing something?
Thanks for the help!
-CMedia on iPhone is not, as it has never been, accessible from a Finder window. Use iPhoto or other Import app to access and import media from your iPhone to your Mac.
