Boot Camp Install Hangs at Bios Initialization

Ugh I'm having such problems trying to get boot camp to install. I feel like it will never work. I've tried and tried and never gotten it to work.
I have an early 2008 mac pro 8 core w/ 16gb ram. I have a clean snow leopard install completely updated with software update. I partition the drive to have a single journaled drive. I then run boot camp assistant and partition the drive so that windows has about 100gb. It partitions and then asks me to put in the windows disk. I put in either 64bit or 32bit windows 7 (tried both.) Computer restarts and then goes to a black screen that says:
Marvell 88SE91xx Adapter Bios Version 1.0.0.1003
Initializing...
And it never gets past that. I end up having to restart and holding down option to get it to boot back into snow leopard. I don't know why this is happening. I've been searching the forums and can not find anyone else having this problem.. I would really appreciate some help. Thanks so much

Stip your machine of any PCIe cards and external devices, and remove any other drives that you have, other than the one for Mac OS.
I prefer giving Windows 7 a full hard drive of its own instead.
Once you have Windows up and running then you can return whatever devices.
Does Marvell ring any bells for you?

Boot Camp Assistant hangs at partitioning process?

Hello,
I'm trying to install Windows on my Mac Pro. But when I run the Boot Camp assistant and assign the Windows partition, the Boot Camp Assistant hangs at the process of partitioning. The progress bar just keeps on moving, but it wont finish the partitioning.

Sorry, the OS language is in finnish but "Osioidaan levyä..." = "Disk partitioning..."
Does anyone have advice, why does this endless hang happen at this point?

BACKUP before you start.
Repair your drive.
Would help to know how much of the free space is actually in a large enough unfragmented single chunk.
You may need to backup / initialize / restore.

Windows 7 boot camp install on 2012 MacBook Pro with retina display

I'm having trouble installing Windows 7 in a boot camp partition on my MBP. When I select the boot camp partition and then format it, the partition is not recognized in the next step. Does any know a way around this? Thanks.

I have hand-installed the NVidia graphics driver, and I have keyboard, minimal trackpad, and hardwire to internet all working. So the WIndows machine is usable. But I am hurting for wi-fi, better trackpad, and whatever else is delivered by Boot Camp. I can't use any of the Boot Camp upgrades because I do not have XP or Vista.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use Boot Camp. There's a Boot Camp Support Community where everybody uses Boot Camp. You should also post this question there.

New Macbook Pro retina boot camp install issue - Windows 7

Trying to complete a boot camp install but can't get past creating a partition. I am able to download the windows drivers through boot camp, it burns them to a DVD, verifies the DVD (couldn't use CD-R as it kept saying burn failure after verifying files) and then takes me to the make a partition page. When i click install the partition, it pops up saying "can't find the installer disc" and wants me to put one in the super drive. What gives? I have that disc in the drive, also tried the Windows 7 disc and got the same error. So basically I can't create a partition to install windows 7 that I have.
Any thoughts?

The disk was from my other PC system, however it is an OEM upgrade disc. Maybe that is the problem but if that is the case why did it work when I installed it through VMware and it worked fine? The disc can be used as a self full install of windows 7. I have also it on another PC with no issues. Trying to convert to Mac finally but this is causing a hiccup.
The next question then is do I really need to go the boot camp way? I only need it to run quickbooks (need windows version for reasons) and a couple of other programs but thought it may run better as a boot camp install rather than VM plus I couldn't figure out how to reduce the size of the partition that VM installs, it takes too much space from me for no reason (60Gb).

Boot camp install would error out

I had multiple issues as well.
When I first tried to install 8.1 full as a fresh boot camp install it would error out and say that the required files were not there to install.
Then I would try it again and it would then get close to finishing and say it cant change the boot order and fail.
Apple please fix as soon as possible.

What's happening here is that the Windows installation, for whatever reason, is not booting properly. It is also set as your default boot system. To change this, reboot your mac while holding down the Option/Alt key. After awhile you will be presented with two icons, one for OS X and the other for Windows. Select OS X and then press Enter.
OS X will boot. Go to System Preferences >> Startup Disk and then select your OS X partition and this won't happen anymore.

Yosemite boot camp install on /separate/ drive?

i have an existing windows 7 boot camp install that resides on a drive in my 2006 mac pro with my LION OS.
i now have a 2012 mac pro.
should i install windows 7 with boot camp on a SEPARATE drive or can i put it on a partition on the same drive as yosemite?

so i /like/ the idea of having an internal CLONE of my OS in bay 1 on the drive in bay 2.
in the past i have set this to happen nightly and i use WinClone (thanks hatter) to create a BACKUP of the Boot Camp install of Windows 7 and i drop this backup on the DESKTOP. this way i have a BACKUP of Windows on my boot OS and i also have one on the CLONE.
just to confirm - no reason as far as you are concerned to change this?

Should my boot camp install see my OSX drives?

HI folks. I"m trying to run Windows 7 under boot camp and thought that a Windows boot camp install could see my mac partitions so I could access the same data when I boot to my mac or my windows 7 boot camp partition. They are formatted OSX Extended Journaled. Should I be able to see them? Thanks.

Windows 7 uses a NTFS formatted file system. OSx uses a Mac only file system, so the answer is you can't without third party tools. Search these forums or search Google. Your question has been asked and answered in these forums several times. The search button is in the upper right of this page.
If you install Windows using a VM like Parallels or Fusion it is a little easier to share files between Windows and OSx.

Failed boot camp install - how to remove windows partition?

Hi There,
After a failed boot camp install, boot camp no longer sees (or can remove) a windows partition - Disk Utility can't seem to remove it and if I use:
$ diskutil list
It shows up as partition 5 "Microsoft Reserved"
I also have a portion of free space that I can't seem to incorporate back into the main OSX partition - how do I remove the windows partition and make the drive a single OSX drive again?
Any help would be much appreciated

Just incase others have this issue, this wasn't caused by using Disk Utility (Disk Utility couldn't remove the partition anyway) it was caused by repeatedly trying to format the Boot Camp partition using the Windows installer when Windows refused to install.
The solution is an Apple tech note (I can no longer find it sorry) that sates that no other hard drives besides the internal HD and the Windows USB flash drive can be connected while installing windows.

Boot Camp Install Issue

I have a 27 inch Imac using OSX Lion 10.7.3 and I would like to install Bootcamp so I can load Windows 7. When I try to use Bootcamp Assistant I get the following message, "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition." I've gleaned from the forums that I'm going to have to reinitialize the hard drive and reinstall Lion so I can properly use Bootcamp.
Once I reinitialize the drive and reinstall Lion, should I use Bootcamp to create the partition before I restore my Time Machine backup, or should I wait to use Bootcamp until after I've restored my backup? I'm worried that if I wait until after the restore that it would just take me back to "The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition." again. But I'm also worried that if I use Bootcamp before the restore that restoring everything will overwrite the partition, Windows install, etc.
I hope this makes sense. Any help would be appreciated.

Snow Leopard Boot Camp Install Woes

I'm having some trouble installing boot camp. I have a MBP 2.2 and I have just installed OS 10.6 and I am trying to reinstall my boot camp partition. I am using an HP external USB DVD drive (which has been used to installed boot camp successfully in the past and is what I used to install SL). Anyway, 10.6 installs with no problems and then I am able to use boot camp assistant to set up the partition and the computer restarts. Then the disc attempts to spin up (I am trying with both Windows 7 32-bit and Windows XP... both discs have been used successfully in other situations) and then the screen usually stays grey/blank. Sometimes I can hold option and I get the HDD icon and it hangs. If I disconnect the drive and start the computer I get the apple icon and then it flashes a circle with a line through it and goes no further. Does anyone have any ideas? I am pretty sure the drive and the discs are good because I have used them to install windows on other macs with no problems.

I've also got this problem, after upgrading to Snow Leopard I couldn't access my windows partition anymore, the startup screen would hang after clicking the arrow under Windows HD. We removed it with Boot Camp Assistant and now when we try and re-install Windows (XP), the installations progresses until it hangs on a grey screen (we don't make it to BIOS) and we have to restart.
Additionally after the installation attempt, we can't get past the grey screen of death on startup (we get the startup noise - no apple logo) and have to use reset my Mac's PRAM and NVRAM to progress.
Also, after going through this process a Boot Camp disk image is created but it's empty.
Disk utility isn't detecting any problems. Could we have removed the partition incorrectly and something is jarring the process?

Failed Boot Camp Install of Vista 32 has broken one of my RAID arrays

Attempted to install Windows through Boot Camp on my Mac Pro, I have a RocketRaid 2320 controller card, RAID was built through Disk Utility. No redundancy, I built 2 separate 1.8TB RAIDs (4 x 500MB drives) in each of 2 separate cabinets. Windows install attempt brought up the HighPoint BIOS, then failed to install Windows and I got the well-known "Select CD-ROM boot type" message. Now, one of the 2 RAID arrays appears to be broken. Disk Utility still sees all 4 drives, but only recognizes 3 of them as a RAID slice with a GUID Partition Table. The other shows up as "disk5s1" with a Master Boot Record as the partition map scheme. While much of what was on this array was redundant with the second, I have a lot of work that was only on this one, so any help in how to fix and/or reconnect the drives of this array would be incredibly appreciated!

1. I remembered RocketRaid 2320 don't provide EFI64bit from Highpoint website so you can't set boot camp.
2. Does your Highpoint raid management utility(Highpoint engineer also called WebGui)
provide any message for your broken raid?I am also a Highpoint user, I give you some suggestion:
A.(1)If your WegGui in Manage--Array show your broken raid status is "Critical"and your bad HDD, please replace bad HDD then select Maintenance items of upper right corner of the page
(2)This will open the Array Information dialog box, select Add disk button to choose the replaced HDD then press "Submit", you can rebuild your RAID array.
B.(1)If your WegGui in Manage--Array show your broken raid status "Disable", you just can use one of Webgui function--"Keep old Data"(But it still have high risks to lose your data, it is the final method to use, I suggest you try the A method best.)
(2) Select "Maintenance" items of upper right corner of the page, from the "Array Information" dialog box, select "Delete" button, and prompted a warning: the array of data will be deleted whether to continue, choose OK..
(3)Back to Manage--Array page, this time the array has been deleted, double-click the "Create Array"
button to display the page to create the disk. From the Initialization Method field select “Keep old Data”, the remaining arrays in strict accordance with the original set of parameters, the required attention parameters include: Number of RAID member disk, Array Type, Block Size, Sector Size.
(4)Click "Create", the initialization process will start automatically, RAID
recovery complete, prompts to create a successful, choose OK.
(5)See your volume in Mac Disk Utility if your data is recoveryed

Windows 7 - Blue screen of death after Boot Camp install

Hello! I have done some searches with no answers, so...
After installing Windows 7 from scratch I then install Boot Camp 3.0 which then leads to the Windows blue screen of death upon reboot. I then have to recover Windows to the previous state prior to installing Boot Camp.
Help!?

Most likely, Apple HFS read-only, which is AppleHFS.sys and AppleMNT.sys - rename those and see.
You might want to run chkdsk after all this to make sure there are no errors with the drive and file system.
Windows Explorer will not accept HFS+ filenames with special characters and will "green bar" and hang when it does, too.
The faulty HFS driver is a valid concern.
Rename AppleHFS.sys and AppleMNT.sys
By doing the following you will disable HFS mount / read mode on windows XP, Vista, 7.
Navigate to c:/windows/system32/drivers/AppleMNT.sys, rename the AppleMNT.sys file to something like AppleMNT_keep.sys or something of your likings.
The faulty HFS driver is a valid concern. It seems to happen on many systems.
You find it in Windows/system32/drivers/AppleHFS.sys
Renaming to AppleHFS_disabled.sys will avoid the blue screens until you have found another solution or Apple updates Bootcamp 3
After renaming both myself because they are no longer "*.sys" or something? they are gone. In my case AppleHFS prevented Windows Backup from running to end and was causing error "some files skipped" and while some might find reading convenient, I prefer Windows not have even read-only access.
You can probably do better with MacDrive, or probably Paragon's HFS driver, to read AND write if needed, to HFS from Windows.

Boot Camp update hanging on iSight

Hi,
I've been trying to install Boot Camp 2.1, and when done via Apple Update, it just hangs forever in the middle of installation. Downloading the patch file itself and trying to install that, it hangs at the point where it tries to install drivers for 'Apple Built-in iSight'. I'm on a Mac Pro, and I don't have an iSight attached. I've tried everything I can think of, but it just never gets past this point. I've left it sitting for hours, and nothing happens until I eventually force quit the updater.
Anyone got any ideas?

Boot Camp install of Win 7 TO USB external drive?

Hi,
I recently bought a 32 GB USB thumb drive. I was able to install a full copy of SL on the drive and use it to boot several different Macs in my household -- it's a little slow, but it works fine. The procedure was dead simple -- format the drive and away you go.
I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to do the same thing with Boot Camp/Windows, i.e. install a copy of Windows on the USB thumb drive such that it will boot and run on a Mac.
I read somewhere else here that it isn't possible -- that Boot Camp can only run on an internal drive. I guess my question is: if all my Macs can install and boot OSX from an external USB drive, why isn't it possible to the same with Windows?
(As I type this it occurs that I didn't try booting the Mac from the USB drive, partitioning the thumb drive in Boot Camp and installing Windows from there. It would be pretty slow going, but maybe that's a solution?)

From my days using ThinkPads (long, long ago) I remember doing flash updates to the BIOS. The updates came from IBM, not Microsoft (so I assume the BIOS was hardware-based, not software (i.e. Windows o/s) based.
That suggests (to me, anyway!) that something in the Mac motherboard prevents installing Windows on an external drive (but allows OSX to be so-installed).
I've also read the Macs use "open firmware" instead of BIOS and that open firmware is, to some degree, programmable (as in programmable to allow Win to boot from a USB drive).
Am I on the right track or am I completely, totally, wrong?! (I'm 'way over my head here).
