Boot Camp Keeps freezing!!!!

Ok so for the past week I have been trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate on my 13" Macbook Pro (mid 2010). Obviously I am using Boot camp to do so. The process always begins smoothly, but whenever the installation gets to the "Completing the Installation" step it freezes and I have to force restart my computer. I have tried countless times with both Ultimate and Home Premium, both copies are authentic. I am getting extremely frustrated and any advice at all would be fantasitc!! thanks!

  • HT3986 Why my Boot Camp keep saying that there is no USB device connected ?

I use Mac Air, and with a external CD device. When I try to install Window 7, it keep saying that there is no USB device connected when there is.

Unfortunately not all external CD drives work the same, have you tried another cable or used another slot?
Have you tried using a USB flash drive? You should have an option now in Boot Camp Assistant to install the W7 installer onto a USB drive as well as the Boot Camp drivers.

Installing Boot Camp for Windows - Freezes on The Atheros wireless install - Hard Freeze - (left it for 30 min So far.) Mouse is frozen, keyboard dose not work.

    Justin:
    How about we try this:
    1. Hard Wire the internet connection to your Macbook Pro via the ethernet port
    2. This should allow you to connect to the internet
    3. Open Internet Explorer
    4. Choose Tools from the menu of the Internet Explorer and then click on Windows Update
    5. This should open a separate window from which you can choose update and at that point windows update should get the drivers for Atheros and list them as Optional Update. Install those drivers.
I am not sure if you can even get this far but is worth a shot.

  • Wifi under windows 7 boot camp keeps dying

I have been running windows 7 64 bit under Boot Camp for just under a week, and last night have started to have some pretty serious issues with the built in wifi.
Periodically, without any consistent cause, when I am booted into Windows 7, my internet connection begins to degrade.  Not disconnect or anything, just taking on like 60% packet loss or more, pings to both my default gateway (the wifi router) as well as to anything further out on the internet.  My ipad, iphone, macbook pro are all fine and able to use the internet at the same time without issue, its only the imac booted into Windows 7.  I can reboot with no change, still completely unusable (unable to load even a single web page) for Windows 7.  reboot to OSX, no issues.  Its not the router, or the ISP, its JUST when I'm in win7 using wifi. I've changed IPs, used a static DNS, measured wifi, etc.  I was using this setup for almost a week before the issues started, and I'm assuming its something wrong with Windows7.  Fully patched and up to date, both OSX and Win7.
I finally figured out that I can temporarily fix the problem by resetting the driver for the wifi interface under the Network Adaptor troubleshoot wizard in Windows, this buys me between 5 minutes to half an hour before the issue starts up again.  Nothing else I've found will fix the issue even temporarily.
I finally ran a 50 ft ethernet cable from the imac to the router and this has for now solved the intermittent issue, but its not sustainable this way as I cannot leave the cords like this.  But clearly there seems to be an issue with the wifi driver in windows that boot camp is using.
Can anyone provide some suggestions of what to look for within windows or a way to debug this more directly?  I used the BootCamp assistant to burn a DVD of drivers at install time and I believe they were the most recent versions, but not sure how to check further.  Device manager reports I am using the Atheros AR938x Wireless adaptor, and this is a mid-2011 27" iMac running Lion.

I'm having the same problem. Wifi loses connection after 5-ish minutes.
Wondering if it's an issue with the 802.11n drivers...? Seems a little more stable on the "g" networks.
This has been happening since the latest OS X update. I have a mid-2010 Macbook Pro 15".

  • Boot Camp keeps stopping at partition step

    Hi guys,
I'm trying to run windows on my iMac 27" (Mid 2010) running 10.7.3  and everytime I get to the partioning step, I choose how much I want to dedicate to windows and it will run for a few minutes and then say "Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again." I'm not really sure as to why this is happening, from what I've read it's because I need to defrag my comp (still fuzzy as to what that means) which I can do either with software or restoring my computer from a back up on my external hard drive. If I need to restore, how long do you think it would take (I have 463.97 GB used)?
Any other tips or advice would be greatly appreciated, I want to get windows running asap!
    Thanks

  • Boot Camp Installation freezing at Boot Manager screen....

O.k.... so this is a weird one......
I have a iMac 6,1, and I, for the most part, have had Boot Camp installed on it since Leopard first came out. Recently though, I reinstalled XP cause Windows 7 was causing a bunch of problems for the games I play.
So anyways, something happened, and my XP partition wouldn't load up from the Boot Manager.. so thinking there must have been something wrong with the partition, I deleted it and used Boot Camp anager to make a new one. When I run Boot Camp Manager, it makes the partition fine, but when it restarts to start installing, its gets stuck on the grey screen. If I try restarting and run the Windows disc from Boot Manager, it gets stuck on the icons, and doesn't move any further.
So... I formatted the drive, and reinstalled OS X Snow Leopard thinking that would work, and no, it is doing the exact same thing, so I now thinking it has to be a firmware, EFI, SMC problem... except there is no way to reset or reinstall the firmware if it already up to date. I have reset P-Ram, reset the SMC (even though apparently, this won't do much)
The thing that is puzzling, is that it has worked fine in the past, and funny that it would all of a sudden refuse to run the Windows Installation Disc..... I have a XP, Vista, and Windows 7 official copies, and none of them work and do the exact same thing.
I am hoping that this problem is something very simple.
    JD

I believe I have exactly the same problem.
I try and boot from an install dvd and I get the gray screen with the apple and the forbidden logo...
Tried resetting the P-ram, nothing, merge and partition the drive again, nothing... I even installed rEFIt after all this to try and circumvent the default boot program, nothing... only the forbidden sign...
I can only truly boot into Mac OS X by selecting ALT during startup, or by having it blessed as the bootable partition.

  • Boot Camp keeps crashing after i edited the info.plist

When I downloaded a Windows Home premium 64x iso file and it said it was 64 bit and it was, I was googling on how to fix it and I came across a topic that said to edit the info.plist file. After I edited the info.plist it stopped working and crashed every time I tried to run Bootcamp. SOMEONE HELP PLS!

Can you try to put back the original/unmodified info.plist file
which info.plist file is it ?

  • How to make boot camp install my windows 7 ISO without a Cd? Broken optical drive...

So yeah, my internal optical drive is dead and i am not paying for a repair nor an external drive.
Boot camp keeps prompting me to install a windows 7, but tough luck for me doing that. I found a tutorial online that suggests modifying the info.plist file of Boot Camp Assisant like so:
once all of the above is complete you can edit the 'info.plist' file in TextEdit (or another editor, like Xcode if you prefer). what you want to do is add a string to let 'Boot Camp Assistant' recognize your machine like it would a Macbook Air. use the 'System Profiler' Hardware Overview to identify your "Model Identifier" (i.e. mine is: MacBookPro5,2). using this, you can write your model into the file using a line like:
    <string>MBP52</string>
this string should be placed in the array section found at the very end of 'info.plist'. it is recommended to add it to the end or beginning of the array ..for me it needed to be at the beginning.
you will know this is successful by opening 'Boot Camp Assistant' and finding all three tasks are now available.. the first choice being "Create a Windows 7 install disk".
I tried doing just that, but my macbook's System profiler ID'ed it as MacBook 5,1 so my string looked like: <string>MB51</string>
Go figure, i'm not seeing the new options to install windows ISO to a external usb drive...
Ive been having problems with this for three days, I  NEED HELP

  • Boot Camp fails to create partition

    Hello,
I've tried to partition my hard drive (unsuccessfully) several times. Boot Camp keeps failing with a "files cannot be moved" error (which shows up at the very end of a lengthy "partitioning" process). I've tried several partition sizes, ranging from 10 to 40 GB. I followed the suggestion to reinstall OS X (formatted the disk when doing so). I restored my files using Time Machine. Again, same error shows up.
I've tried disk utility's repair and everything is OK. Fsck'ing when booting in single user command line mode agrees that everything in the disk is OK. Not sure what else to try.
I should probably point out that when I had 10.4, I did manage to partition the drive and install Windows XP (that was over a year ago). I later deleted that partition and made a fresh 10.5 install.

i have this exact same problem. look at my thread <http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1604527&tstart=0> and someone gave me a solution that i have yet to try still.

  • Macbook Air July 2013 freezes (Boot camp Win 7 Pro)

    Hi all,
Just wanted to know if anyone else has had this issue? I am running win 7 pro 64bit sp1 with the latest boot camp drivers (updated via osx boot camp utiliy a few days ago) and all windows updated up to date. Everything works fine and has installed, but at least once every day the whole computer just freezes up and becomes non responsive. All I can do is power it off and do a hard reset. This is on a brand new July 2013 Macbook Air 13" with a 512gb PCIe Samsung SSD.
I have taken it into Apple to take a look at, but they refuse to acknowledge the problem saying it is a software issue with Windows. They did their diag tests in-store and everything came up ok. But the funny thing is, the laptop still freezes every day! And all the errors point to a hardware issue.
Anyway, I did a bit of googling and from the sounds of it it is most likely a faulty motherboard/controller chip. I just wanted to hear from others out there if they were able to fix it any other way other than getting a replacement laptop? Are there any diag tools that I can run to see if the SSD controller is faulty?
Here are the errors I keep getting
    Event ID 11
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\DR3
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\DR6
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\DR5
Some other errors which I think could be related
taskhost (2744) WebCacheLocal: A request to write to the file "xx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache\V01.log" at offset 184320 (0x000000000002d000) for 151552 (0x00025000) bytes succeeded, but took an abnormally long time (2451 seconds) to be serviced by the OS. This problem is likely due to faulty hardware. Please contact your hardware vendor for further assistance diagnosing the problem.
The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device ACPI\ACPI0008\4&1df6a035&0.

I don't think that PCIe which is only Samsung device would use any other NAND.
I do think Apple is responsible to provide drivers and enable AHCI mode for it to function properly.
Was concerned that too many people give far too little space to Windows partition. And that they don't set aside the 11% that Samsung Magician would recommend setting if it could.
I first read about the MBA and its new SSDs here:
2013 MacBook Air Disassembled and Benched - Samsung 256GB PCIe SSD ...
    And Samsung PR:
    http://www.samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/news-events/press-releases/ detail?newsId=12921
    > Samsung started providing the new SSD to major notebook PC makers earlier this quarter. The XP941 lineup consists of 512, 256 and 128GB SSDs.
So no matter what size it is still going to be Samsung NAND all the way through.
PCI Express-based SSDs for Ultrabooks, then. The new XP941 series uses PCIe's wider data path to read at nearly 1.4GB/s
    http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/17/samsung-makes-first-pcie-based-ssd-for-ultrab ooks/
So maybe searches on "XP941" can help turn up tips from around the net.

  • Boot Camp Assistant won't work - keeps asking me to use Software Update.

I am trying to use Boot Camp to install Windows but my Boot Camp Assistant won't work - it keeps asking me to use Software Update. So, even though I know everything is up to date, I start Software Update and it confirms that indeed everything is up to date. I try Boot Camp Assistant again, but the same message appears. I search every possible Boot Camp upgrade to download from Apple but they are all .exe files and need Windows to run, so those don't seem to be what I need. So I am caught in a circle of nothing working. Figures - the ONE weekend I need to install Windows and use a Windows-based program!!! And of course Apple support is closed over the weekend - another great asset to spending thousands of dollars on a product. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I too am having a similar problem. I am trying to install Windows in a newly created Boot Camp partition. I have Windows 7 but Boot Camp Assistant only mentions XP and Vista. I put in my installation disk of Windows 7 but it refuses to install it. My OS is fully up to date.

    Hi Folks,
I keep getting a message that the boot camp assistant can not install needs firmware update. All updates are currently installed. I have tried all available updates and hey ell me the computer doesn't need them????
Any help that you may provide is greatly appreciated.

  • Boot Camp Mac Pro Vista 32 / 64 Nvidia 7300GT Maya / OpenGL apps freeze?

I have successfully installed Vista 32 and 64 in addition to OSX. I have the latest BootCamp install. (which should not matter) I have installed the latest Nvidia drivers for the 7300GT in both 32 and 64. Whenever I try and launch any openGL application (tried Maya, Mudbox, Realflow so far) they all just freeze on startup. I can play DirectX games just fine. I have tried everything, including re-arranging my RAM, changing every Nvidia setting (exhaustive searches on other forums). I have a Mac Pro (quad core), 5GB RAM, two SATA partitions on the primary drive, and a dedicated drive for Vista 64. BTW - I was having the same problem in Vista 32 as well before I decided to try installing Vista 64. This seems to be a very strange issue, since undoubtedly the Apple team would have tested at least a single openGL app before qualifying Vista for boot camp.
I have already installed the latest EFI update, and when I try and install the update to Nvidia firmware OSX in it's verbose glory tells me "you do not need this update".
BTW - when I install Vista 64, BEFORE I install the Nvidia drivers (using Microsoft Nvidia drivers), I can load Maya just fine. Although, it is not very responsive, which defeats the purpose.

I think it is a shame you don't have the X1900, though. Or 8800 which only works under Windows but interferes with OS X even booting. (I have 8600 which doesn't work in OS X but at least does work in Vista).
Only Business and Ultimate support dual cpus. And only x64 supports 5GB. 32-bit SP1 will see all 5GB but not sure how much it uses. Otherwise, Mac Pro + Vista 32-bit supports 1.9GB RAM - which is paltry.
Does Maya system requirements show the 7300?

  • Windows 7 Freezes at Restart After Installing Boot Camp Drivers

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro and am having troubles installing 32-Bit Windows 7. All seems to be functional until I install the Boot Camp drivers included on the Install Disk. I have tried using the Boot Camp 3.1 update, but the same problem occurs. After the computer freezes on the install page, I can no longer access Windows (even in Safe Mode) and am forced to restart the entire process (that is, repartition the hard drive and reinstall Windows).
If I don't install the Boot Camp drivers, Windows seems to be functional, so I'm pretty sure it's something in the Boot Camp package causing the trouble.
Is anyone else having this problem? Any ideas or workarounds?

I finally got it to work. You need to go to the NVidia website and install their drivers. I think the Apple supplied ones are out of date and are causing Windows to hang. Install Boot Camp from the supplied DVD, install the update that Apple supplies through the newly installed Boot Camp, and then go to the NVidia website to manually download the drivers. I used the GeForce 300M series installer. Make sure you do all of this before letting Windows restart.
I had a few issues with it hanging a few times, but once I was able to get into Windows it seems to be working. All of the other Apple supplied drivers seem to work.
