Boot Camp Manager Must Close

I am a Boot Camp Beta user with Windows XP. I upgraded to Leopard and installed the new drivers from the Leopard disc. Everything seemed fine, except for a pop-up window saying that new hardware had a problem and might not work correctly. But the Boot Camp icon showed in the taskbar and everything seemed OK.
However, on the second startup after installation I received an error message that Boot Camp Manager had to close, and no icon (even Bluetooth) appeared in the task bar.
I tried repairing the drivers, and reinstalling them, all to no avail.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem with the Windows Boot Camp drivers?

I was called by a user who had same trouble... "Boot Camp Manager encountered a problem and needs to close"
For this one, the problem was Spy Sweeper. Only fix I could find was leaving that uninstalled.
I tried, among other things, turning off the Spy Sweeper's "Shield" for Startup Items. That had no benefit; Same trouble with Boot Camp Manager upon startup.
I did the following:
- uninstalled Trend Micro's AV
- uninstalled Spy Sweeper
(no other anti-malware loaded)
- Inserted the Boot Camp 1.4 drivers CD and ran "Repair"
- No problems on restarts.
- loaded Trend Micro's AV 2007 back onto Boot Camp.
No problems upon multiple restarts.
- Loaded Spy Sweeper (CD was labeled with version 0706-FA-1287), ran the updates during install, and during its final stage of install reported that I didn't need to restart.
- clicked "Finish"
- Then after clicking the "Finish button the install dialog went away and I received a dialog reporting that Spy Sweeper had a problem and a restart is required.
- restarted.
- Upon restart, no problem with Boot Camp Manager
- Restart on final time just to verify that Boot Camp and everything else is loading properly.
- NO. Boot Camp Manager now reporting AGAIN that it "has encountered a problem and needs to close."
Therefore, it seems to be the Spy Sweeper that's causing the problem.
- uninstalled Spy Sweeper, then "Repair" of Boot Camp (which takes a very long time).
- Restarted.
(No Boot Camp Manager problem upon restart)
- Restarted.
(No Boot Camp Manager problem upon restart)
- Restarted.
(No Boot Camp Manager problem upon restart)
Yes. 3 restarts.

    HELP MEH!!~

    Issue resolved!
I went to the Apple store in Portland, OR, and one of the geniuses, Matt, resolved the problem. Thank you Matt! And thanks to Apple for having a genius on staff who knew a thing or two about windows!
Matt had not encountered this problem before, but he took a shot at the problem andresolved it on the first try.
    I'll explain what he did:
    Booted windows.
Plugged in my ac powered usb dvd drive (tried to use the superdrive for the air, but it was not pwrking because of the bootcamp manager problem).
Inserted disc 1 of my osX discs that came with the MBA.
When the disc menu apeared, he chose to remove the boot camp manager software.
He then connected to the Apple stores wifi, went to windowsupdate.com, clicked custom, checked all of the Microsoft .net framework packs, and downladed and installed them.
    Restarted, and booted to windows.
Re-inserted the osX disc 1, and installed the boot camp mananger software.
    Restarted.
    Voila!
Boot camp manager works every time I boot now, and everthing is working--bluetooth, audio, keyboard backligiting, monitor brightness--everthing!
Incredible customer serice from Matt and the PDX Apple store!

At startup hold down the Option/Alt key and from the screen that comes up select your OS X partition to start the computer from. Then use the Boot Camp Assistant app to Remove Windows and the partition you reated for it and it will Automatically place the space you allocated for the Windows install back into the OS X partition.
    NOTE:
Do NOT use Disk Utility to erase the partition that was created for the Windows install. Use the Boot Camp Assistant app again to do that.

  • Boot Camp manager requires log-out/log-in to load

Every time I restart Windows, Boot Camp manager requires a log-out then log-in to load in the task bar. A few other menu items also require this. Has anyone else experienced this?

Is it boot camp assistant or is it Windows that is asking you to put in your password upon boot?
What other menu items require this input?

  • Error message when starting Boot Camp: 'You must update your computers Boot Rom'

I installed the latest firmware updated to my late 2011 13 inch MBP. Rom version is MBP81.0047.B24. Now Boot Camp won't start. Says I need to updated my boot rom. But its updated already. Anyone else having this issue? Thanks.

Fire the people that write meaningless message errors. Oh, can't. Get the point though.
you mean you are trying to use Boot Camp Assistant? Boot Camp has become meaningless through over use for too many things.
It doesn't even know bout your EFI frmware, I can say that.
You should though use Lion Boot Camp Assistant and the BC 4.01 drivers for your system.
    Zap pram
repair your hard drive with Disk Utility - from DVD
make sure your free space is not fragmented, is contiguous and also large enough, 40 + 20GB for Windows, and still leave 20GB / 20% free for HFS.
    And backup(s).

  • Desktop Manager: Must Close error

    Hi all,
I've lurked around and tried to solve this, now I beg for assistance at the feet of the masters....
Simply, Blackberry Desktop Manager has worked fine since original install last November.  Recently now, I get the popup "BlackBerry Desktop Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close."  Drilling down for more info it says "AppName: desktopmgr.exe     AppVer: 5.0.0.11     ModName: mshtml.dll  ModVer: 8.0.6001.18812     Offset: 00209d2c"
BB Storm (VZW) and Windows XP desktop PC.
Further details --- the desktop manager will stay running until the BB is connected.  Upon connection via USB the PIN number is displayed.  Within 5-10 seconds the error box appears and the program stops.  If the BB is connected before starting desktop manager the program starts, displays the PIN, then the error pops up after 5-10 seconds.  Tried USB ports on front and rear of PC.
I've followed instructions elsewhere in the forum to uninstall the desktop manager and settings from the PC, then a fresh download and reinstall.  No joy.
I use outlook 2003 (pop3 mail) and BIS.  Again, this has worked fine until just recently.
I've installed the desktop manager on a different PC (identical hardware) and it runs fine and allows me to backup the BB, no error message.  However that PC isn't my primary machine (with Outlook) that I need to sync to.
So ---  what to do now?
    many thanks

    Hi there!
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start DTM and see what happens.
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Boot Camp Installation freezing at Boot Manager screen....

O.k.... so this is a weird one......
I have a iMac 6,1, and I, for the most part, have had Boot Camp installed on it since Leopard first came out. Recently though, I reinstalled XP cause Windows 7 was causing a bunch of problems for the games I play.
So anyways, something happened, and my XP partition wouldn't load up from the Boot Manager.. so thinking there must have been something wrong with the partition, I deleted it and used Boot Camp anager to make a new one. When I run Boot Camp Manager, it makes the partition fine, but when it restarts to start installing, its gets stuck on the grey screen. If I try restarting and run the Windows disc from Boot Manager, it gets stuck on the icons, and doesn't move any further.
So... I formatted the drive, and reinstalled OS X Snow Leopard thinking that would work, and no, it is doing the exact same thing, so I now thinking it has to be a firmware, EFI, SMC problem... except there is no way to reset or reinstall the firmware if it already up to date. I have reset P-Ram, reset the SMC (even though apparently, this won't do much)
The thing that is puzzling, is that it has worked fine in the past, and funny that it would all of a sudden refuse to run the Windows Installation Disc..... I have a XP, Vista, and Windows 7 official copies, and none of them work and do the exact same thing.
I am hoping that this problem is something very simple.
    JD

I believe I have exactly the same problem.
I try and boot from an install dvd and I get the gray screen with the apple and the forbidden logo...
Tried resetting the P-ram, nothing, merge and partition the drive again, nothing... I even installed rEFIt after all this to try and circumvent the default boot program, nothing... only the forbidden sign...
I can only truly boot into Mac OS X by selecting ALT during startup, or by having it blessed as the bootable partition.

  • Boot camp 3, windows 7, 13" unibody macbook and keyboard function keys....

after some screwing around (disable user access control, install tweak util to allow unsigned drivers) most features of my macbook are now working in windows 7. battery life looks abysmal as it was in vista, but i'll deal with that later.
the major glitch at this point seems to be the keyboard. the boot camp manager in the system tray has the keyboard option, which does nothing. pressing fn-f1, f2, etc does nothing except bring up help or the corresponding f-key value for windows. i manually reinstalled the apple keyboard driver, but this obviously isn't a driver issue - it's a keyboard manager issue. i notice that there is no more kbdmgr.exe in boot camp 3... at least as far as i can tell. what process is now responsible for these keyboard functions? it would be really nice to be able to eject discs, use volume, hit ctrl-alt-del, etc!!
thanks in advance to anyone who has figured this out.

to sum up: actually got 7 running, but all just to a certain extent:
Keyboard works rather well, even though the backlight cant be fully switched off in low light conditions. Low light is considered even if its still bright enough to easily read the keys labels, but thats just the same as in OSX.
The trackpad works half way, as a poorly working standard touchpad with + two finger scrolling (way too quick) + two finger right click. Tapping works, but dragging and tapping doesnt work technically (clicking a button then quickly moving the cursor is misstaken as dragging, feels inferior in recognition to other touchpads). Multitouch stuff doesnt work at all, which is a pain seeing that touchpad.
Sound quite works, but if u reboot the macbook in having the sound muted u need to reboot again with sound switched on to make the sound play through the speakers.
    CD eject seems buggy too.
Battery runs like 2,5 hours (4 hours in OS X). (Must be a driver issue, windows CAN run such a notebook for 4 hours too, just consider all those lenovo thinkpads)
Why the **** does installing Windows on a Mac feel like installing Linux on a random PC...
If anyone has solutions/hints regarding the sound or the trackpad let the world know!
Coolest thing ever would be to get synaptics drivers running with the Apple touchpad. Could be possible, since in Linux as far as i get it the macbook touchpad is driven by synaptic drivers as well. Would need some fiddling though, maybe someone manages?!

  • Can't install Boot Camp drivers on Early 2010 MBP

Hello there, so I'm having a problem installing drivers as you can see from the title. I was trying to create a Boot Camp partition on my girlfriend's MBP. She has the 2010 early one. Now we got windows installed on there with no problem; however, we can't seem to get the drivers that allow her speakers, webcam, etc. to work.
Initially we tried using my Snow Leoperd OSX disc because as far as I know she has snow leoperd too and she can't find her original OSX disc. I have an early 2011 MBP so when I tried using the boot camp drivers on my OSX disc it would not work. It said the drivers on mine weren't made for hers. Whatever no biggies, so I google an alternative and tried to download the drivers from boot camp manager back on her Mac Partition. It said that the drivers could not be found or could not be downloaded. Something to that effect. So now that we can't download the drivers, or use the original disc, what other options do we have?

    Hello Arroyo1291,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities! Given your situation I strongly recommend you to call Apple Care support at 1-800-275-2273. When you get in touch with an AppleCare representative, ask them for a replacement Mac OS X install DVD (I think Apple calls them Fullfillment Disks). Give the representative your girlfriend's MacBook Pro serial number and tell them that the Mac OS X installation DVD that came with her computer is now missing and that you want a replacement DVD. Also, make sure to ask them if the replacement Mac OS X install DVD contains the Windows Bootcamp Drivers on it like the original Mac OS X Install DVD that shipped with your girlfriend's MacBook Pro.
One last thing, if your girlfriend's MacBook Pro is not under the AppleCare extended warranty, they may charge you a nominal fee on the replacement disc order.
    Best of luck!

  • Boot Camp "No Bootable Device" after OSX Partition Resize

I have a MacBook Mid/Late 2007. I started out with a 500GB drive that I partitioned 100GB for Windows 8 in Boot Camp (yes, I know only 7 is officially supported, not the point as it worked fine.) I wanted to try Mavericks so I resized my OSX partition down 100GB to make a new 100GB Mavericks partition. After I installed it and played around, I noticed when I booted with the option key, my Boot Camp partition was missing. I thought i was becaus eI had too many partitions, so I deleted Mavericks and resized my main OSX back to where it was when I started. The Boot Camp partition still won't show up when I hold option on boot, but when I run Boot Camp manager on OSX it wants to remove it, so it knows it's there. It also shows up in the startup disks pane, but if I select it and reboot, I get a "No Bootable Device -- insert boot disk and press any key" message. If there a way to bring back Windows?
Here's the kicker: My optical drive DOES NOT work. I installed Windows 7 off DVD long ago before it quit working and the only way I got Windows 8 on was through a downloaded upgrade. I know I should get it fixed, but I don't have the money (and I never use it, and this is 2 that have died on me in this laptop.) My system can't boot anything other than OSX off flash drives or external DVD drives (I tried, and I tried reEFIt, neither worked.) So I need a solution that doens't require a boot CD if at all possible.

    Nhammake wrote:
I can get to  and boot OSX (it's what I'm using now as this is my only laptop), I just can't boot Windows. All my files show up fine on both partitions.
You can't add/remove or alter the partitions if Boot Camp is installed, Windows will cease to boot.
To fix it, erase all paritions except OSX. Start over, 2 partitions only (OSX and Boot Camp)

  • External HD "Not Readable" after Boot Camp Installation

After installing Windows XP on my Mac, I switched back over to OS X and tried to access my external hard drive which greeted me with the message: "The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer." I assume that the Boot Camp process must've affected the external drive and made it incompatible with OS X. The external does show up in Disk Utility, but there are no options to repair the disk, only erase. Can anyone tell me how to reformat the drive, without losing all of the precious data on the disk, for OS X?

XP can't see Mac OS file system.
There is your drive, and your volume_name on the left side column. You have to click on volume_name and select the tab for Repair.
Best to backup before installing or updating any OS, and leave everything you don't need disconnected.
I doubt anything changed, should not have.

  • Option to boot into leopard has disappeared         mac pro/boot camp

I have a mac pro. running the latest version of leopard. quad core xeon 2.66 w.4 GB of RAM. Runs like a dream. Sadly, however, I absolutely had to run a windows program natively. So I dutifully went out and bought a copy of vista, installed it via boot camp, and went merrily on my way. Booting in and/or out of either OS, as warranted, was perfectly smooth. Then I had a few weeks away from work, and when I returned, it was as if leopard had vanished. Starting up I found myself in windows. Odd, as I had the defaults set to open in MacOS. So I restart, holding down the option key. No MacOS. Only windows. Then I see that Vista is yelling at me cuz I have yet to "activate" it and I now apparently have a fake OS. So I activate the *****, all goes well, my fake copy is now miraculouslt genuine again. So I restart again, holding down the option key, and no change from before. So I do it again only this time I zap the PRAM first, and THEN hit option, and same thing, windows only. So I go into windows looking for the Boot Camp Assistant control panel thingie, guess what, it aint there. So I go to startup and recovery options in Windows (control panel, system, advanced) and attempt to reset the default to Mac, only there is no Mac option. OK so now I am perplexed as ****. So I do a system restore in windows, to a restore point just a couple weeks ago when I am, in fact, quite sure that everything worked. and I could boot into and use either OS with ease. Once it restores and restarts, I'm back in windows AGAIN but now it says my OS is a fake (again) and I have to activate it (again) and STILL no sign of Mac OS or boot camp assistant or anything like it anywhere. I dont wanna do anything else cuz now I am seriously afraid I am gonna f* it all up even more. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help. I am doomed. Where did my leopard go? What do I do? How do I fix this? THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR SAVING MY ABOUT-TO-BE-MEANINGLESS life...

There is a chance you somehow programed your machine to boot to Windows only. To undo this you need a functional Boot Camp Manager. You can repair the Boot Camp Manager using your OSX install DVD - WHILE IN WINDOWS. (Just boot to Vista and shove the DVD in the optical drive - then the re-installation of Boot Camp Drivers and BC Manager can begin).
Before you do that - right-click My Computer then click Explore. Click local disk (C). Next click Program Files and Boot Camp should be about 5 or 6 items down (alphabetically) Click Boot Camp then kbd.mgr (KeyBoard Manager) IF THIS activates Boot Camp Keyboard Manager you'll have no problems choosing an OSX reboot option. NOTE - in my own case, clicking kbd.mgr only prompted the tray icon to appear (which for me is great because I can right-click that icon to access the Boot Camp controls....) but it might work either way.
If it is gone / broken - then find and Click your Set Program Access and Defaults and then Click Change or Remove Programs. You might still have enough of your old Boot Camp Install there left to start a repair (without the DVD). Just locate Boot Camp Services and Click "Change" and repairs will begin.
Anyway - using the Boot Camp Manager you can force a reboot to OSX just by choosing. Good luck.

  • Crash while installing the update to boot camp drivers 4

I want to install the boot camp diver 4.0 but it crashes and ends on a blue screen. anyone similar problems? the boot camp partition was made on os 10.6.7 now I'm on os 10.7

Bootcamp assistant 5 will only work on 64 bit windows 8 or 64 bit windows 7 - period!
If you're running 32 bit Windows 8, you have to download bootcamp assistant 4. version
3 or 5 won't work. Apple's grand scheme is to only support 64 bit Windows in the future. Win7
was the last 32 bit Windows that Apple will support.  Bootcamp Assistant 4 is not supposed to
work with Windows 8. Apple will tell you that it was intended to only work with windows 7.
I am writing this post from 32 bit windows 8 using Bootcamp assistant 4 which is not supposed
to work, but it does.  At first, Windows displayed an error screen saying that Bootcamp was
incompatible and would take a really long time to boot I replied "Run the program anyway."
If you click on help, windows will say it can't be fixed and to contact the manufacturer.
I had loaded 2 copies of Boot Camp Manager 4. Big mistake! I had to go into Task Manager Startup
and disable the second copy of Boot Camp Manager I rebooted and everything works like a charm.
So far, so good. No problems at all.  I have Win8 configured so that I run everything from the Desktop
and ignore the start screen completely. I don't know if that makes any difference? My Win8 boots
up in 10 seconds, (SSD), and shuts down almost instantly. That alone makes it worth the price
    of admission.

  • Boot camp assistant error update ROM

I apologize for cross-posting; I had this over at the Snow Leopard forum and it was suggested I try putting this over here.
I have a Mac Pro 4.1 using 10.6.5 and BC Setup Assistant 3.0.1.
I'd like to enlarge the space on my BC partition of my startup disk, but I have the familiar boot camp assistant error which tells the user that in order to install boot camp you must update the Boot ROM Firmware. I've already updated the firmware to 1.4 (MP4.0081.B07; SMC Version 1.39f5), so this gets me nowhere. What's a little different about my problem than most of the others I've seen is that I have an early 2009 Mac Pro, not a laptop, AND journaling is enabled on all my disks.
I tried downgrading to 10.5.6 by installing it on another drive and starting up from that. It shows that Boot Camp Setup Assistant is version 2.0, but still it tells me that I need upgrade the Boot ROM Firmware.
From within Windows I installed Boot Camp 3.1 and 3.2 and restarted both times. I've run Disk Utility and verified and/or repaired Disk Permissions on startup disks; so, too, Verify Disk.
I've tried installing Boot Camp on a new, blank, journaled drive. I get the same update your firmware message.
Any help you can offer over this American Thanksgiving Holiday will be greatly appreciated.
