Boot camp not starting on win7 64bit boot-up

My BootCamp application is not longer starting up at windows start up. I've checked the start-up list and it's there. I've repaired the installation of it using add and remove programs. I've repaired using SL Upgrade CD. and that fixes it after one restart but as soon as i restart it again it stops starting up. I've gone to the application in program files and tried to start is manually after this and no luck getting it to start up after it doesn't start-up with windows. This is a causing my secondary click and all function keys at the top of the keyboard to not operate correctly. Is there a Fix to this problem i could not find any topics on this problem.

On the disk Management I tried to set the disk with the OSX partition as active and restarted, and ended up having Missing Operating System error.
Fortunately I managed to solve that problem but still I am unable to switch back to Mac.
Help is needed and much appreciated

Have lost ability to open Boot Camp on start or restart. Icon does not show up. Had been working for 2 years, then nothing. Recently had problems with Kodak Easy Share in PC partition. Any connection? Any hope of reopening Boogt Camp without losing data already there?

Can you see there is a partition?
Can you boot Windows 7 DVD?
Did you think you would never need a backup image?
So no Safe Boot, no F8, possible?
    Paragon CampTune
Paragon CampTune is a commercial product that is designed expressly for this task. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/camptune/ It consists of a downloadable ISO that needs to be burned to a disc and booted from in order to resize the partitions. During testing it was available free, but now costs US$19.95. MR user Rodus reports that it damaged their OS X partiton and a reinstall was required, so heed the warning and have a backup.
    Paragon Partition Manager
From the makes of CampTune is a commercial tool that is similar in functionality to GParted Live, but has a more polished/friendly user interface than GParted Live. Previously only the US$79.95 Professional version supported all the features required for this, but as of version 11 the US$39.95 Personal version has also been reported to work. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/pm-personal/
    Securing Dual-System Configuration
Imaging is still the most affordable and robust way to secure computer data. Unfortunately Mac OS X backs up only HFS+ volumes, leaving Windows with dual-system configurations unsecured. You can permanently lose all of your data unless you have a Windows-compatible backup solution.
Paragon’s CampTune and Paragon’s Drive Copy for Mac can secure the entire dual-system configuration. CampTune creates traditional images of volumes or entire hard disks, Drive Copy can copy them to other disks. In case of an emergency, you can restore the previously created image or copy all your data back to its original state.
    Winclone/Disk Utility
Winclone is a free tool for creating and restoring backup images of your Windows partition. One of its key features is that it can restore to a larger partition than the one the image was created from.
NOTE: Winclone has been discontinued, but for now remains available and capable of completing these tasks (including creating and restoring Windows 7 images).
Winclone updated to support Lion Winclone updates and download
Disk Utility can resize HFS+ (Mac OS) partitions, but is currently incapable of resizing NTFS partitions, so you could use it to reduce the size of the HFS+ partition and create a new larger placeholder MS-DOS (FAT) partition
    The full process would be:
    Backup Windows partition with Winclone.
(if the new Windows partition is smaller than the old one make sure you set the preferences in Winclone to save the image as an uncompressed dmg)
    Delete old Windows partition
    Resize current Mac Partition
Create new Windows partition as MS-DOS (FAT) in free space after Mac OS partition.
(If the new Windows partition is smaller than the old one an additional step is required: shrink the filesystem on the image by selecting Tools->Shrink Windows (NTFS) Filesystem)
Reboot your computer for the new Windows partition to mount properly (winclone may not restore if you don't reboot)
Restore Winclone partition over new Windows partition
An alternate Winclone based process is described in the External Guides section

  • Cant use boot camp to start  computer

When i try to use boot camp to start my mac it will not work ( holding down the option button) , i just get a grey screen and thats it. If i let it boot up normally it will work fine to boot into leopard.
I dont want to use the system prefs to do this cause if it dont wont i will then be locked out of my computer till whenever, its happened before!!! lol
Any thoughts on why boot camp is not giving me an option to choose which partition to boot to?
    thanks

I just gave up on trying to use windows for the most part, tried it the other day and it took about 20 minutes to boot into windows. Not sure how exactly i did it.
I have the white keyboard that came with my imac USb nothing special.
windows finally started after i hit the power button (i was going to try to boot back in to OSX)
What usually happens is i hold the option button while booting up and i some times get the option to pick an OS, when i choose windows it will let me pick it but it will never move passed this screen. thats usually when i just give up.

  • Will not start even in safe boot after installing latest camera update

MacBook Pro will not start even in safe boot after installing latest camera update.
I started my machine and did a software update. Only the camera update needed. So installed and when required I pressed restart. It restarted and did install. Then restarted again. I expected to get to the login screen and it turned itself off. Tried three more times. Each time shutting off. I unplugged everything, and pressed start waiting for log in window. No it shutdown before the log in window. I then tried safe mode and that did not work either on three more occasions.

I have managed to resolve some issues. I can now restart the machine via a CD boot. If I do cmd C into something like tech tool pro, then restart from that disks menu it restarts every time.
If I try a safe start it shuts down. If I try a normal start it shuts down. I have managed to repair permissions and that cleared up some start up permissions but with no improvement to the boot problem. The only way to load is via the cmd-C boot option. Any other ideas?

  • Boot Camp not booting separately on Snow Leopard

Installed bootcamp and windows xp in parallels as I can't bootup direct from windows.
I'm using an external DVD/CD player as my built-in drive is shot.  I've tried in 10.6.8 and now back in 10.6.0 as it runs faster.
Any ideas on how I can boot directly to windows?

If you installed Windows in Parallels then you can't direct boot into Windows. You can only direct boot into Windows if you installed Windows using Boot Camp Assistant. And only after Windows was installed using Boot Camp Assistant and working using direct boot would you install and configure Parallels to use your already installed Windows as the Parallels target operating system.

  • Boot Camp not able to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit!!???

Guys I'm using Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 & I'm having a problem installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit through boot camp. When I insert the windows installation disc it creates the partition but as soon as it restarts to proceed the installation, it hangs up there saying 'No Bootable Device. Please Insert Installation Disc and press any key to continue'. But when i was previously using Mac OS X Snow Leopard, I installed Windows 7 using the same disc and it proceeded without any issues. Can any body give me a solution to it please because I want Windows 7 in boot camp and I do not want to use it in any virtual machine like parallels desktop!!! I AM USING iMAC 2010 so its quite new!!!!!!

I am having the same problem. I have a very recent 27" iMac 3.4g i7 and I am trying to install Windows 7 64bit upgrade. Also running OSX 10.7.2. It also stalls out after expending files reporting that there are missing files with a error code 0x80070057. I was trying to install a fresh complete version but had bought the upgrade.. I had vista on another machine but had taken it off and was going to use the key for the upgrade. No windows had as of yet been installed. I later tried to install Vista as a way to upgrade to Win7,which went ok, but when I tried to upgrade to Win 7 64bit, I couldn't. I have tried this multiple times without success and have removed the boot camp partition after each failed attempt... Any Suggestions?? Thanks in advance

  • Blue tooth on win 7 boot camp not working.

I'm running Win 7 ultimate on a mac book pro purchased a couple of months ago.
after many different attempts and rough hours shouting to the heavens the hate i feel for this demonic device i managed to have to running Win.
I can deal with extreme penalties of becoming an apple customer in terms of no HDD common access from both Os`s, keyboard and track pad non responses etc... i can figure out for the life of me why cant i make the blue tooth devices pair !? maybe i got spoiled using a dell notebook for many years and i'm used to things working for the way i want them to and its a different package i should have bought from apple (aside for care and shmare )
Anybody feels like giving a hand here ?

When you completely uninstall all video drivers Windows will fall back to a very basic (it's like it's 1995!) video driver. As the thread starter says 800x600 is the resolution.
So this morning I did fully uninstall all drivers and got the 800x600 in the center of the screen and rebooted with the stretched 800x600. Once I logged in Windows did install a driver (ATI Mobility HD 4850 (Microsoft Corporation WDDM1.1)) I forget the version of it though. Anyway it was buggy (I think but it was not band-y ). So I ran the boot camp 3.1 update. When I rebooted everything looked great.
My driver version though 8.641.1.0 (8/24/2009)! So now I'm older then 8.661 BUT no banding and no constant crashing. I did get the split screen issue where the top is on the bottom and the bottom is up top. This was at the login screen though and once I logged in my desk top was ok. My card is also identified as ATI Radeon HD 4850, I thought it was the mobility version though.
And that was not as simple as I wrote.. There were MANY rollbacks and uninstalls and trying to manually pick the driver to install. Even got the black screen at one point and had to boot to command line to delete that ATI file. So maybe set aside an hour or two...
    STO played fine as well!
Now to rock the boat and see if Windows wants to update me...

  • Option Key for Boot Camp not working with New iMac Keyboard

Hi, I own a early 2006 Intel iMac. Recently, my wife complained that the keyboard was getting dirty. Basically I think she liked the new keyboard on the new Aluminum iMac better. We purchased it back in August and everything worked great. Oh I also had the beta version of Boot Camp installed. Everything worked great, hold Option down on boot and could choose which OS to go into.
Fast forward to now, purchased Leopard and love it! Decided to wipe the system and do a fresh install. Everything is installed (Leopard, Boot Camp, Windows XP) and working great, that is except when I press and hold the Option key at start up. If I have the new keyboard installed, the Option key does not bring up the boot manager. However if I plug the original keyboard in and hold Option, it works!!!
Ok I could see a problem if the new keyboard was NOT an Apple product. But it is and frustraiting as I can use the control panel to choose. This is a long round about method and does not make a happy wife with me. HELP!
    Jhan Jensen

Thanks for the info! I was about to call myself and I may still do so. I am hoping if Apple gets enough of these calls then maybe it will spur them on to get it done sooner. (Apple are you listening) I will do the same with the KB swapping, she will be happy at least she can still use the new keyboard. She types a lot and has be really happy with the new keyboard and its response.
    Thanks again for the help!!!

  • Error message when starting Boot Camp: 'You must update your computers Boot Rom'

I installed the latest firmware updated to my late 2011 13 inch MBP. Rom version is MBP81.0047.B24. Now Boot Camp won't start. Says I need to updated my boot rom. But its updated already. Anyone else having this issue? Thanks.

Fire the people that write meaningless message errors. Oh, can't. Get the point though.
you mean you are trying to use Boot Camp Assistant? Boot Camp has become meaningless through over use for too many things.
It doesn't even know bout your EFI frmware, I can say that.
You should though use Lion Boot Camp Assistant and the BC 4.01 drivers for your system.
    Zap pram
repair your hard drive with Disk Utility - from DVD
make sure your free space is not fragmented, is contiguous and also large enough, 40 + 20GB for Windows, and still leave 20GB / 20% free for HFS.
    And backup(s).

  • Boot camp not working

    Hello,
I'm trying to get windows 7 ultimate 64 on my mac book pro. However every time I try and run bootcamp it tells me I need to update, when I update it says everything is all good....
    I'm running Version 3.0.4 (322) of bootcamp
    Thanks

Sry m8 but I've checked that way before I wrote my solution.
Permissions disk checked - done! - didn't help
    Disk check - done! - didn't help
    PRAM reset - done! - didn't help
    Disk journaling - confirmed!
Software update (from Apple menu or from System Preferences) - done! - didn't help
    Combo update (10.6.6) - done! - didn't help
Everything what I have tried before was just wasting my time. And I have check your solution as well. Unfortunately with same result - Boot Camp Assistant is not working.
In this case my workaround is only way to install Win7, Vista or Linuks on different partition. Not sure about WinXP, need to be checked.
What's interesting, I contacted the Apple Care, and after lots emails and phones they got only one solution - send me new OS X SL installation disk.

  • Boot Camp not installed after transfer from PB G4

I just bought a MacBook (Black, 160 G HD, 2G RAM). When starting the new MacBook, I transferred my files from my old PB G4 to my new MacBook. All my files were transferred without any problem. But Boot Camp Assistant is no where to be found on the new MacBook. Search with Spotlight does not find Boot Camp. Any suggestions??

I realized that Bluetooth was not installed either. There might also have been other missing software that I did not notice.
I did an "Archive and Install" from the original Installation DVD, and everything seems to be installed and working well.

  • Enormous frustration over Boot Camp installation of Win 7 64bit

Please help, I am totally frustrated after days and days of trying to install windows 7 on my iMac 11,2  (21.5”, i3, mid 2010).
So, my super drive is dead and currently I don’t have an option to replace it. I recently upgraded my OS to 10.8.3. Because my iMac is having an optical drive, in Boot Camp Assistant there was a grayed out option to create bootable USB drive. I edited info.plist file, so I finally got that option right, but no metter what, I can’t boot Windows 7 64bit installation. I’ve tried numerous ways to do that. I tried standard create USB in Boot Camp assistant, I’ve tried Windows download DVD/USB tool, I’ve tried Rufus, BootInIc, I’ve tried more than 10 different Kingston/Verbatim/No name/Corsair/Patriot USB sticks, I’ve tried several WD/Toshiba/Transcend/Silicon Power external drives formatted both fat32 and NTFS (when formatting external drive in fat32, I was reducing the external drive’s size with diskpart/create partition primary commands in windows. EVERY SINGLE TIME after partitioning the hard drive in Boot Camp Assistant, my computer restarts and there was a “No bootable device” screen. I’ve than tried Refit, there I get an option to boot from external drives/usb sticks, but than after clicking on a boot windows from USB I also get the “no bootable device” screen. I’ve tried naming sticks different (because some people are saying that it must be named WININSTALL, but without any success)
Thank you very very much in advance, currently I don’t know what to do next.

If your iMac came with an internal optical drive you can not use the USB port to install Windows. Get the optical drive fixed.

  • Boot Camp not showing anymore as a Startup Disk option?

For months, my internal 1TB had been partitioned 750GB/250GB OS X 10.6/Windows 7, with no problems - I want to use Windows, I either reboot and hold Alt, then choose Windows when the menu comes up, or I go System Preferences > Startup Disk and change it to "Boot Camp".
A few days ago I shrank the 10.6 partition by 200GB using Disk Utility, then formatted the space as Mac OS Extended and installed the preview of OS X 10.7 Lion (I was invited to try it via the AppleSeed programme).
Since then, the only options I have in System Prefs > Startup Disk or when holding Alt during boot are 10.6 and 10.7 - Boot Camp seems to have vanished as a choice. If I open Disk Utility, Boot Camp is still there, still 250GB. If I browse the Boot Camp partition in OS X I can see all my Windows files, etc, it just seems to be gone as a bootable option
    Help!

I have the same problem...  Can do WinClone, not supported on Lion, to get an image backup of W7 partition.  At this point, since I can get to all the data on that partition, I would be more than happy to do an image backup of it, reinstall Windows 7 to get the boot partition to work, then reimage back to that original W7 partition so that I wouldn't have to reinstall and reconfigure all my applications.

  • Boot camp not working cause disk needds repair

well. im trying to run boot camp but everytime i go to partition, it says failed to partition cause the disk needs to be repaired start up Mac OS X with start up disc and go to disc utility. ive done this numerous times and everytime i do it, it says the disc doesnt need to be repaired... so im not sure whats going on... so if anyone can help it would be cool.
    thnx

    Hi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If you haven't done this already, boot from the Leopard DVD (hold down 'C' after (re)starting your computer, until you are prompted to choose a language. Then wait until the installer appears.) *Ignore the installer.* Instead, move the mouse pointer to the top of the screen, wait for a menu to appear, then, from the Utilities menu, choose Disk Utility. Select your Macintosh HD, and perform a "Repair Disk".
In the unlikely event that this reports (or reported if you did this already) "no errors", as was the case for the original poster, then we have the interesting situation that your HD has a newer version of Disk Utility than the DVD, and the newer version is noticing errors but the older version is not. Otherwise, you can stop reading this paragraph. So the next thing to try would be to run the newer version of Disk Utility. Do this by going to the menu, and selecting Utilities > Terminal. Then type
    <pre>open -a /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/Applications/Utilities/Disk\ Utility.app</pre>
and again select your Macintosh HD and click "Repair Disk".
If even after booting from the Leopard DVD to run Disk Utility you still get "Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed" then I don't know what to suggest next except that I've seen others highly recommend DiskWarrior for such situations. Unfortunately, DiskWarrior is not free; I think it is around US$100.

  • Boot Camp not available on a G4 PowerPC???

I have a G4 PowerPC. I successfully installed leopard, but cannot find boot camp assistant. I tried searching for it the way they recommend for the macbooks that are missing it. I then linked to my other computer that has it and tried opening it. It says that my computer does not support boot camp. Does anyone know why or how I can get around this?

Boot Camp was created as a mechanism to facilitate the installation of Windows, which is compiled for an Intel processor, on an Intel Mac. Windows cannot run on a PowerPC Mac outside of an emulator, and therefore a standalone solution such as Boot Camp won't work. Boot Camp is not an emulator.
A hard disk must be in the GUID partition format to be repartitioned by Boot Camp, and PowerPC Macs can only start up from APM drives.
