Boot Camp Partition Failed Now Storage Says 300GB Used as "Other!"

I have a Mac Book Pro 13" Mid 2011
I used a Windows 7 disk to install windows via boot camp, I start to make a partition. I left for about 10 minutes and the computer was restarting, so I go into disk utility to check if there was the "bootcamp" partition and there wasn't. I went into about > storage and under "other" it says 365GB used. I remember before doing the whole windows thing I had way more than 95GB left. (I split the GB to 250GB mac and 350GB windows) Please help me!

Removing Boot Camp Partition after now using Parallels

Is it possible to completely remove the boot camp partition (under Snow Leopard) without having to reformat the HD and reinstall everything? I don't need it now that I am using Parallels with an XP virtual machine installed on my OSX partition.

Once in OS X go to System Preferences - Startup Volume and set OSX to be the default.
On the next reboot ist should automatically boot into OSX.

After using VMware once, boot camp partition fails to start up

Start up repair also failed.
I just installed Windows 7 64-bit onto my brand new macbook pro using boot camp. Everything went fine, I installed the drivers and everything worked perfectly.
I then installed a couple games (Maplestory and L4D)
Neither of them worked.
I went back to Leopard and started up VMware Fusion just to mess around with Windows. Actually, all I did was re-install L4D. L4D started and worked. Surprised, I tried maplestory. It worked as well. Then I curiously restarted in windows. BSOD. Failed to start. Repair failed.
Someone shed some light?
EDIT: After restarting a couple more times Windows started. Neither of my games work though, only in VMware. Anyone know why?

Actually for me it worked perfectly under Vista Ultimate x64, and yes I do actually get an error it's error -2147467259 (unspecified error)
Compatibility mode does not work as the new "Hack Shield" prevents this....it thinks I wanna hack the game and just says maplestory will not start in compatibility mode.

Boot Camp Partition Failed

So I tried to partition my hard drive and I got the following error message:
+Verification failed. This disk could not be partitioned.+
+Use Disk Utility to repair this disk.+
And so I continue on to Disk Utility and I try to verify the disk and I get the following error message:
+Invalid volume file count:+
+(It should be 679211 instead of 679214)+
+Invalid volume directory count:+
+(It should be 170328 instead of 170325)+
+The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.+
+Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed.+
At the top of Disk Utility it says if repair disk is unavailable, boot from Mac OS X cd and use disk utility from there and repair. But when I do that I get the following error message:
+The disk "Macintosh HD" could not be unmounted.+
I used to have my HD partitioned with Windows XP installed on it, but when I tried to use parallels as well, the partition got messed up and so I deleted it. I am trying to reinstall windows but to no avail. I know it is a long read, but please help me out! Thanks!

If you removed the Windows BootCamp partition thru BootCamp Assistant, it should have been fine.
At this point, your only real option is to update your backup drive, then boot from a USB drive or DVD, and reformat the internal drive back to one partition.
Paragon sells Drive Backup 9 Pro that works with GPT and BootCamp and can facilitate moving Windows to/from a VM (like Parallels) as well as backup for Windows and partitioning tools.
Apple Disk Utility First Aid is a "start" but you often find it comes up short and you need more robust tool like Alsoft Disk Warrior.
I would never be without bootable backups, along with TimeMachine as secondary backup. But Disk Utility can restore a drive to/from USB/FireWire drives, or there is SuperDuper, or Carbon Copy Cloner to get you there.

Windows will not boot to my boot camp partition on a DIY fusion drive - gives "No bootable device found" error

I have a MacBookPro 9,1 (mid-2012, non-retina) running OS X 10.8.2. Here is what I have done to my system:
Installed Windows 7 x64 Pro to a boot camp partition; installed all windows updates.
Using WinClone, save an image of this boot camp partition.
Removed optical drive and HDD.
Installed HDD in place of optical drive.
Installed SSD in place of HDD.
Booted to recovery partition, installed OS X on a flash drive.
Booted to flash drive, created fusion drive using [MacWorld's instructions](http://www.macworld.com/article/2014011/how-to-make-your-own-fusion-drive.html)
Booted to recovery partition on flash drive.
Restored system to fusion drive from a Time Machine backup. Unfortunately, it seems that because I never installed OS X on my fusion drive, I do not have a recovery partition. But that's an issue for another day.
Using Boot Camp assistant, created a boot camp partition on my HDD.
Using WinClone, restore my Windows installation from the previously created image.
Now, Windows boots to a black screen telling me that it can't find a bootable device. I have tried a few things to resolve this, all without effect:
I know that VMware Fusion has to prepare a boot camp partition in order to virtualize it, so I figured it might inadvertently fix things. Alas, while it *did* successfully boot my boot camp partition into a virtual machine, I still can't boot into Windows.
I figured I'd just try to reinstall Windows. Surprisingly, my system booted to my Windows install disc, which was in my original optical drive (which I had put in a USB case). But, Windows refused to install, giving me a an error 0x8030024. It seems the solution to this issue is to disconnect all drives but the one on which you want to install Windows, which is something I would dearly like to avoid. It would be a pain, but more than that, I'm afraid it would bork my fusion drive, even if I'm careful to never boot to OS X with the SSD disconnected.
A lot of places said that this error results from a borked MBR, and suggest using a tool like gptfdisk to rewrite it. I followed the instructions [here](https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4144252?start=0&tstart=0), but *that* didn't work either.
I am now completely at a loss as to how to proceed, and Google isn't much help either.

My setup is very similar to your's, Ryan, on a Mac Mini5,2 and the ordering is different and Winclone was not used.
1. New Mini with internal 500GB with Mountain Lion(ML), put into an external FW enclosure, so the Mini can/could be booted using an external drive for contigency.
2. Replaced internal stock HDD (500Gb/5400rpm) with SSD/HDD (256Gb SSD/1TB 5400rpm).
3. Installed W7 x64 on 64GB partition on HDD, which was a single-partition drive to begin with.
4. The remaining HDD partition and the entire SSD was put into a Fusion drive.
5. Using Command-R, new ML installed on Fusion HD.

Backup to TImeCapsule including Boot Camp partition

I used Boot Camp to install Windows 7 Professional on my new MacBook Air, and have now got Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac working OK with a Windows Virtual Machine. But I am reluctant to remove the Boot Camp partition. Now I have got TIme Capsule/Time Machine working OK for automatic backups - but the BootCamp/Windows stuff is not being backed up. Can anyone tell me how to include the Boot Camp partition and all my Windows-based work in the automatic backup 'of the entire machine' (the reason I bought a Time Capsule) to Time Capsule? It seems that only the MAC side of the machine is being backed up hourly by Time Machine. Can't find anything in Knowledge Base or Help about this. Thanks!

No. But you can create a +disk image+ on it, and back up the Windoze side to it, if you can find an app that will work. Possible. But they generally don't seem to have much training on Time Machine or Time Capsules.
Info on the whole question of backup & data protection is fairly thin in the Apple world - or am I looking in tihe wrong place or calling it the wrong thing? thanks

Restoring Boot Camp Partitions...

Hi,
A While back I Partitioned my main hard drive and created a boot camp partition. Now that i'm done using Windows on my mac, i'd like to restore my drive to one partition WITHOUT losing all of my data. Now, Boot Camp Assistant makes it sound as though this is possible and I have heard from others who have done this however i'm a little unsure and would just like to confirm that this will not destroy all of my data on the Mac OS X side of the Hard Drive.
Mac OS X (142GB) - Windows (5GB) = Mac OS X (147GB)
Above is the basic process i'm imagining.
Can anyone help me out?

Backups should be automatic and require only setting up once. So really are no brainers.
Cloning is not formatting, installing etc. Though it might require RTF once in awhile.
It is the folks that don't that get into trouble.
Disk Utility RESTORE or Carbon Copy Cloner, along with (essential) one drive. You would be surprised at the problems people post, and how much can be avoided.
One guy just killed his Mac Pro system disk and wondering what to do.

Does Winclone still work to restore a Boot Camp partition?

I have a 50GB Boot Camp partition, NTFS file system, with Windows XP. My computer is a Mac Pro running OS X 10.6.5. I have been using Winclone to clone the Boot Camp partition as a backup. I know that Winclone is no longer supported, and have heard that Winclone may not work properly with Snow Leopard.
I have no problem creating an image of the Boot Camp partition using Winclone. I have not yet had to do a restore to a new partition, but assume that some day I may need to do so.
My question is: Has anyone running Snow Leopard successfully used Winclone to restore a Boot Camp partition?
A secondary question: Is there any other utility, running on the Mac side, that will clone/restore a Boot Camp partition?

Good luck to you. I am trying to transfer/migrate my Bootcamp partition (XP pro, FAT32) to a larger HD. I tried Winclone, and like you could create an image, but am unable to restore it on the new drive. I get the same error that you do. I tried creating a Bootcamp partition, rather than having Winclone do it, but would get this error in the log:
Source image volume size is not an exact multiple of 1 MiB
This happened whether I used Bootcamp Assistant or Disk Utility to create the partition, and it didn't matter whether I used a larger partition size or attempted to match the existing one. Apparently Winclone measures the block-sizes differently than Finder, Terminal, or any other measurement that I have used reports.
I've read about suggestions to turn my old FAT-32 Bootcamp Parition into an NFTS one, but I'm loathe to do that since I have on idea if that will work.

Resized Boot Camp partition; now I have "disk0s4"

I resized my Boot Camp partition to give Windows 7 more space. In Disk Utility on OS X ML, I reduced the size of my OS X partition. So then i clicked apply and now that partition says disk0s4. I tried to verfiy and repair it through disk utitlity but It wont let me as there are problems. I have reiszed my parition before and never had this problem before. What did I do wrong and will I be able to fix it?

As you have found out, those instructions do not work, so.
If you can you still boot to OSX, you can Use Boot Camp to remove the Windows partition and return the Mac to normal, then start agin.
Next time you need to resize an NTFS partition use Paragon Camp Tune, which can do it without borking things.
Do Not Ever use Disk Utility to do anything to a Windows partition, it will make the problem worse.

HELP- boot camp partition says it's filled to 20GB w/ just XP & 1 game demo

I'm really confused -
My new boot camp partition was set for 30GB, which it has.
I put on Windows XP2 and it runs fine.
I've installed some various game demos and deleted all but one that occupies roughly 2GB (Call of Duty 4 Demo).
Right now the partition says it has 20 GB on it with 10 GB free.
If my game demo occupies 2GB, that means XP uses 18 GB!!!
I also had deleted some other 1 and 2 GB demos using "Remove Programs", but the Hard Disk did not gain free space.
What should I do?

Right click on your disk drive icon (in explorer for example), selecting Properties. Press Disk Cleanup tab. You can check all items shown in Files to delete, as you wish. Press More Options tab & press System Rrestore & Shadow Copies Clean up Tab. This will remove all but most recent recovery backup, and then remove files selected from previous Tab setting.

you can't add or mofidy partition numbers. especially not if and once you have windows installed.

Imaging is still the most affordable and robust way to secure computer data. Unfortunately Mac OS X backs up only HFS+ volumes, leaving Windows with dual-system configurations unsecured. You can permanently lose all of your data unless you have a Windows-compatible backup solution.

CampTune creates traditional images of volumes or entire hard disks, Drive Copy can copy them to other disks. GParted Live is similar to CampTune as it is also distributed as a bootable image that needs to be copied to a CD/DVD or USB flash drive. As free and open source software, distributed under the GPL, it will always be available free. Since it has more functions than CampTune, it may be harder for folks who are not as experienced with partitioning hard drives. http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
iPartition
Coriolis Systems' iPartition is a £29.95 ($44.95 US) utility that runs in Mac OS X and allows resizing of all of the relevant partition formats, including HFS+, FAT32, and NTFS. It provides a Mac-oriented user interface that may be easier to manage than some of the free utilities. As it is not capable of resizing the boot disk, it requires a bootable external disk or a boot DVD. (A tool to create a boot DVD is included.)
Paragon Partition Manager
From the makes of CampTune is a commercial tool that is similar in functionality to GParted Live, but has a more polished/friendly user interface than GParted Live. Previously only the US$79.95 Professional version supported all the features required for this, but as of version 11 the US$39.95 Personal version has also been reported to work. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/pm-personal/
Winclone/Disk Utility
Winclone is a free tool for creating and restoring backup images of your Windows partition. One of its key features is that it can restore to a larger partition than the one the image was created from.
NOTE: Winclone has been discontinued, but for now remains available and capable of completing these tasks (including creating and restoring Windows 7 images).

Disk Utility can resize HFS+ (Mac OS) partitions, but is currently incapable of resizing NTFS partitions, so you could use it to reduce the size of the HFS+ partition and create a new larger placeholder MS-DOS (FAT) partition
The full process would be:
Backup Windows partition with Winclone.
(if the new Windows partition is smaller than the old one make sure you set the preferences in Winclone to save the image as an uncompressed dmg)
Delete old Windows partition
Resize current Mac Partition
Create new Windows partition as MS-DOS (FAT) in free space after Mac OS partition.
(If the new Windows partition is smaller than the old one an additional step is required: shrink the filesystem on the image by selecting Tools->Shrink Windows (NTFS) Filesystem)
Reboot your computer for the new Windows partition to mount properly (winclone may not restore if you don't reboot)
Restore Winclone partition over new Windows partition

Native OS utilities
MR user Kazyua reports that you can use the disk management utilities provided with the current operating systems if you want to do it manually. Windows 7 and OS X both have partition resizing functions built in. In OS X, open Disk Utility and manually shrink the mac HFS+ partition by dragging the lower right corner. Then in windows go to the start menu and type "disk management" into the search box then hit enter. You should get an overview of the drives you have and the individual partitions. Right-clicking on the partition gives an "Extend Volume" option. The Windows NTFS volume should then be extended into the free space you created with Disk Utility. This method has not worked for other users, so try at your own risk.

I deleted my Boot Camp partition with Disk Utility and now I cannot reclaim the freespace?
And when I try to add a partition to the free space, and try to apply I do this:
I press apply and it does its thing for like a second, I switch tabs and I get this:
No matter how many times I reboot it doesn't work. Please help

Can't install windows it says the boot camp partition is not formatted as a NTFS file structure

Using boot camp assistant it gets to the point of installing windows 7 and it won't because the boot camp partition is not a NTFS file structure. It also seems strange to me that there are 5 partitions would have expect ether 2 or 3. Please help this is very frustrating.

Open, if not so already, the Windows formatter. Identify the BC Windows partition. It will be the one listed with the proper size you created and/or will be labeled as a C: drive. Be careful you select the right one or you may be corrupting the entire drive.
Format the partition as NTFS.

Having seen this question many times in this forum, I thought I'd let people know that the new beta of parallels can boot from your existing boot camp partition. It also has a few other features with some major cool factor. Check it out here.

unforunately it won't work if your bootcamp partition is fat32, however they said it will be fixed in the next release!
