Boot Camp programs unable to open

Hi everyone,
I have a macbook pro 13 inch that I run Windows 7 on via Boot Camp. I have had Boot Camp installed for about a month and a half now, and until about a week ago, everything was working just fine. Then, upon starting up Windows, I started getting the Black Screen of Death. Right after the "Starting Windows" message came up and Windows began to load, my computer screen would go black and stay black, even though everything was still running, forcing me to hold the power button down and restart. I looked online for a solution and found a suggestion of turning the energy saver preferences to "Never" so that the display would never go to sleep. This fixed my problem for the time being, until today.
I got the black screen of death, in which I then inserted my Windows 7 CD and ran the command prompts of RebuildBcd, FixBoot, and FixMbr as recommended via suggested internet solutions. All of the command prompts ran successfully. I restarted my computer, and logged into Windows 7 via Bootcamp. However, now none of my applications or almost anything will work or open. I cannot open the Boot Camp Control Panel, I cant open any applications downloaded from the internet, nor can I open any applications or programs that I previously installed on my computer. I get the error message "Windows cannot find "Program Name Location". Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again." when trying to open applications.
I can use Google Chrome which I had previously installed, but it no longer has an the Circle Google Chrome Icon. Many of my other applications lost their icons as well, and cannot be opened. If I download any type of application, for example, Safari, I get the error message described above when I try to open and install the application.
Please let me know of any advice that you might have as a solution to this problem. Thanks.

I am doing a TM backup now. I looked at the iDefrag and the drive definitely needs defragmenting, according to the software, but I thought with Macs we don't need to worry about those things. I want to do one other thing I read somewhere else as a remedy for this inability to partition the drive before taking the leap and doing the full erase and reinstall.
Here is the link on the internet: http://crounji.wordpress.com/2014/01/28/a-solution-to-your-disk-could-not-be-par titioned-error-on-boot-camp-assistant/.
And I believe another forum has discussed this topic.
Here is another approach I want to try: Boot Camp: Partition alert message when using Boot Camp Assistant

  • New MBP users using XP via Boot Camp - Can you install Open Type Fonts?

Have any of the new MacBook Pro owners that have been using Windows XP via Boot Camp been able to install Open Type Fonts, i.e. fonts that are sold by Adobe?
I have now tried this on two new MacBook Pros, and I have tried three different retail versions of Windows XP on each system. It just does not work.
I keep getting the "Unable to Install Font" message, which suggests that I contact the font vendor, which I have. I have also tried many different versions of different fonts.
After having troubleshooted with Adobe and Microsoft, and after having reinstalled Windows over 6 times on two different new MacBook Pros, I am starting to believe that this issue affects all new MacBook Pros.
For some points, could someone please try to install an Open Type Font in Windows XP, and let me know if you are successful?
    Thank you!

I had the exact same problem and *finally solved it*. I am running Windows XP Professional on a new MacBook Pro via BootCamp as well. Although its totally contradictory to logic, you need to use True Type fonts. I understand, you open your fonts folder and all the standard fonts are Open Type. We had purchased a font family that I had running on my Dell which used the exact same operating system. It was Open Type and it worked fine. I got a new MacBook Pro and was transfering everything over, including all of my fonts. The fonts that we purchased as or had converted to Open Type for me (the only windows guy working on graphics related stuff) were not loading on the new machine (MacBook Pro) even though they worked fine on the old (Dell). When I tried to install them, I kept getting an error that read something like "unable to install font. it may be corrupt, contact font vendor." I spent about a week with the font vendor trying to figure it out. no luck. One day I tried install a folder full of other fonts, mixed versions of True Type and Open Type, and all of the True Type installed and the Open Type did not. I got my hands on a True Type version of the font I was struggling with and now it works fine.
It makes no sense. Every person who seemingly knows way more about this type of stuff seems to think that this is not possible, and that I'm not smart enough to understand what I did. They will tell you that there is nothing different about running windows on a Mac than on a PC, in fact it should run better on a Mac, blah blah blah (not really true in actual practice as far as my experiences go). But this worked for me and I have no problems with it anymore. Good luck.

  • Boot Camp users using XP via Boot Camp, Can you install Open Type Fonts? 2

I have written this post as a continuation of the following archived thread, which has never been solved.

Have any of the Boot Camp 3.0 users that have been using Windows XP via Boot Camp been able to install Open Type Fonts, i.e. fonts that are sold by Adobe?

From the many complaints and troubleshooting in my original thread, we know that this is definitely an issue with Boot Camp, which prevents users from installing Open Type Fonts, specifically from Adobe.
Has anyone else experienced this with Boot Camp 3.0?
    Thanks!

The fix for this can be found here:
    http://www.thomasphinney.com/2008/12/no-font-instal/
It's a simple registry edit. It resolved the issue for us on both nVidia and ATI iMacs running XP in Bootcamp.
    Here's the relevant excerpt:
+Nvidia says the problem occurs on Windows XP only, and Vista users are unaffected, but at least one Vista user has reported they had this problem and the fix resolved it. It affects multiple NVidia cards, and some (unspecified) ATI cards. The fix, posted by David Ingraham in a horribly lengthy thread on the Adobe User Forums, and in a post by “PixelNinja” on the NVidia forums is this:+
+— start of email from HP —Good news. Nvidia has identified the problem and provided a fix. The way it was explained to me, Windows expects the device driver to be a certain size (maximum). In this case, the nvidia driver is slightly larger than expected. A simply registry entry will resolve the issue in WinXP (the issue doesn’t occur in Vista). To resolve the problem, do the following:+
    +Open the registry editor (regedit)+
    +Navigate to+
    +HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management+
+Add a new REG_DWORD entry called SessionImageSize with a value (decimal) of 20+
    Reboot
+The Type 1 fonts should now open/install without any problems.+
+— End of HP email —+

Have any of the Boot Camp 2.1 users that have been using Windows XP via Boot Camp been able to install Open Type Fonts, i.e. fonts that are sold by Adobe?

    Thank you very much!

Experiencing the same from a fresh install of Windows XP on Boot Camp 2.1.
Tried 2 different scenarios. Installed Windows XP, Boot Camp Drivers, Open Type Fonts. Received an not a valid font file when trying to install. Installed Windows XP and then the Open Type Fonts. All fonts registered and accessed by the operating system without the Boot Camp Drivers. Installed the Boot Camp Drivers and checked the fonts, received error messages accessing fonts.
Pretty sure its the Boot Camp Drivers that are causing the problems with Windows and the fonts. Hopefully there is an updat to address this issue.

  • Boot Camp Is Unable to Partition My Drive

    Hello,
The first time around I managed to set up Boot Camp and Windows 7 Home Basic very successfully and effortlessly on my MBP mid-2012.
Then I found out I could not get activation key for it because Microsoft no longer sold the Basic version. I downloaded the Windows 7 Home Premium version and bought an activation key from Microsoft and am now trying to get it on my computer.
Using Boot Camp Assistant I was able to delete the partition on which old Windows resided. Then using Boot Camp Assistant I built a USB drive that included the new ISO for the Windows 7 Home Premium edition and then the process went well and all necessary support files were downloaded.
We got to the point where I selected the size of the partition and Boot Camp Assistant tried to partition it except that it is not able to. It doesn't giver any reason, it just says: "Your disc could not be partitioned. An error occurred while partitioning the disk."
Anyone here knows what could be the cause of the problem and possibly how I can resolve it?
By the way, I have checked and the base format of the drive is Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and the disk has only one partition.
    Thanks much.

  • What boot camp do i use for for 27-inch mid 2011

im looking at doing some gaming modding and am fairly new to mac so was woundering what boot camp i should download to use on my system as the program i want to use isnt mac compatable

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Boot Camp is an application that allows you to install Windows on your Mac. You don't have to worry about the version, but you can only use Windows 7 with the Boot Camp version you have (Boot Camp 4). Just open "Boot Camp Assistant" app (it's in Utilities folder) and follow the steps to install Windows.
If you need all the steps to install Windows in your computer, see > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf
To get the maximum performance, I recommend you to use a 64-bit Windows edition

  • How to install Boot Camp on a MacBook Pro 2011

Well I bought a new MacBook Pro and I have constantly been trying to install Boot Camp.
When I open Boot Camp it shows me the Introduction, then it asks me if I would like to install the Lastest Windows Supports Software From Apple, and if I would like to Install Windows 7. I tick both boxes and then another page opens.
It asks me if I would like to install it to a DVD or CD, or if I would like to install it to an external hard drive. Now, I have tried both of these, and they both show a page asking me how much space I would like to be Mac space, and Windows space. After I've chosen how much I would like, I click install. After about 30 seconds, a message pops up saying the installer disk could not be found, please insert the installer disk and wait a few seconds, and the click install again.
I have done this many times, and that same message pops up. Please, if any of you people out there have the solution for me it would be gratefully apreciated.
    Thanks.

No, it doesn't. You have to purchase the Windows 7 installer. Windows is not included with the computer. Did you discuss the matter with someone when you bought your computer? If you did they should have told you that you would need to buy Windows 7. If you had asked while you were purchasing the computer then you could have paid for Windows at the time and had it installed for you.

  • Windows not finding Boot Camp on MacBook Pro

Hey everyone. I have Windows 7 64-bit and a MacBook Pro (mid 2010) with OS X Lion installed. When I boot up in Windows, it seems that only half of the time Windows realizes that it is on a Mac. Meaning...only half of the time the Boot Camp program is running in the notification tray, and only half of the time will Windows register the volume up/down, brightness up/down, and keyboard backlight up/down buttons on the Mac. It makes it very difficult to say...adjust the brightness or volume in the middle of a game. I can still go out of the game and turn up the volume in the notification area, but it is becoming a huge hassle. Like I said, this is only happening about half of the time. The other half of the time Windows registers that Boot Camp is on it, there is the Boot Camp icon in the bottom right corner of Windows, and all of my control buttons (brightness, volume, etc.) work just fine. Any ideas on how to make this happen every time? Thanks.

  • I bought macbook pro at cash america used and loaded with windows 7 ultimate by boot camp.My questions is it has mountain lion loaded but original ower has name with password so how can I reload so I can sign on as administrator for downloads and upgrades

I bought a 13 inch macbook pro9.2 at Cash America with windows 7 Ultimate with boot camp program.
The Mac op sytem has Mountain Lion installed but the previous ower has his name and password attached to it and can only use as guest.
My question is how do I get around this to be administrator to reload software so i can use mountain Lion, and not loose the windows op .

If you reformat the partition that contain Mountain Lion and reinstall Mountain Lion, it should not effect the Windows pratition.
Have said that I suggest you backup everything you might want to save just in case.

  • Can't install Windows 7 using Boot Camp

Hi, I need some help here, I'm trying to install Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro (bought late 2012) using Boot Camp.
I first open BC, click on the "Creat and Installation disk" and "Download software" optionsI used an ISO downloaded from the MS site (SW_DVD5_NTRL_Win_7SP1_All_Lng_Patch_Client_Server_X17-23698.ISO)
Then, when it is finished I leave the USB plugged in and hit on Install Windows 7
But I get this error that means "Can´t find Installation disk"
Do I actually need a disk?, Then why did I created the USB for? THe funny thing is that I have already done it before, I know it asks you to choose your partition size, I have already Installed Windows but i dind´t know it was a 32 bits disk, so I deleted the partition and I'm trying it again but can´t.
    Please someone help me out.
    Thanks in advance.

Hold the option while turning on the computer. You should see your statup drives. Just choose the OS X drive and eject your disc once in OS X.

  • Installing Windows XP without Boot Camp

Ok, so i started with a small Windows XP partition, and i wanted to resize it so i could install Call of Duty 4, well i deleted the partition, then tried to make a new larger partition, well it wouldn't work i kept getting an error in Boot Camp Assistant, i tried defragging it, still didn't work. My question is can i partition using Disk Utility and then install Windows on the new partition, without going through the boot camp program?
    Message was edited by: ze

No you cannot, as the manually created partition won't have an emulated BIOS or MBR partition map.
To fix the Boot Camp issue, what you can do is make a backup of your system with Time Machine, then boot into your Mac OS X Installation CD and restore from the backup. This will cause all your data to be rewritten to the beginning of the drive, and will allow Boot Camp to partition properly.

  • Unable to open Clock or Settings with SIM in...

Ever since trying to flash out the firmware (Green+*+3) and getting the proverbial "Phone unable to start..." error on subsequent boot I am unable to open neither my clock nor the settings preference on my e61i with the SIM in.
If I take the SIM out I can open both the settings and the clock.
I have tried upgrading the firmware (was already the latest but just refreshing it), hard reset, soft reset... you name it... everything I could find in this forum just does not work.
Any idea how I can get all my features back? Kind of a pain to have to pull the SIM out to edit my SIP settings.
    Nokia E61i
    1.0633.22.05

Just when I though things were back to normal, I am back in no settings land, unless I go off line.
Also, thinking a full firmware refresh would take care of it I follow the instructions only to find myself with a "Unable to start... Please see the manufacturer" error after the firmware was Updater verified that the firmware was successfully loaded.
Of course being in the states (yes, I have bought the phone in EU, people travel Nokia) I am now told the problem has to do with the somewhat unusual time change and since that phone is not for US market I am screwed.
    Very nice.

  • 2 Boot Camp Questions

    Good Evening Folks,
Two quick questions for a newbie to both mac and the boot camp program.
    1) I am using a apple brand external modem for my dial-up connection (Yes, I know I am still in the stone age). When I use XP in boot camp it of course does not recognize the modem. Any ideas on what I could do or if there is a way to have it recognize the modem? Without the modem I have no way to get online when using xp.
    2) I know that you can transfer files very easily from mac to xp via the drive on your desktop. What about when you are in windows mode. How would I access something on the mac side or say put a picture or song on the mac side?
Any and all advise is very much appreciated.
    Thanks all,
    John

I'm writing you, from XP side, using external USB Dial up, the maker is Best data, model # 56USBP , it's a Data AND Faqx modem, and works/made for both Mac and PC's. ($45.00)
There are 3 makers I found, that make a model made for both Mac's and PC's, and comes with the software for both OS's . One important item, the model for PC's must be for Win..ws XP WITH service pack 2, if it's just xp, it may not work. Besides Best data model above, Zoom modem makes 1, and also a model from Diamond, a Diamond Supra ----# I forget. In my case, I called Best data, (who say they now own/merged w/ DiamonD) , they had to send me, (email or regular mail, I chose em) a newer driver, for it to work w/ XPP Serv pack 2. In closing, I tried burning the new drivers on my iMac side, (I couldn't get online on the PC/Win..ws side). The iMac burned disc, WOULD NOT work on the Win..s side, I went to a local copy store, (Kinko's), and burned the email w/ drivers from a PC, on getting home it now worked, thus, burn a pc drviver from a pc, to a pc, If I find the exact model #'s of the other 2, Zoom and Diamond, I'll repost, but the above works. G'luck
