Boot Camp: Seagate External Drive not Recognized in Windows Explorer -- PLEASE HELP!

I'm running in Boot Camp and using a Seagate Free Agent GoFlex external drive as both a Time Machine backup on the Mac OS, as well as a storage unit to exchange files. However, whenever I plug my external drive into my computer while running Windows, it does not show up in the Computer tab under "Devices With Removable Storage", like it should. It does show up on the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" button in the bottom right hand corner, and it appears as a "Startup Disk" in the Boot Camp Control Panel, so I know that it isn't a cable or USB input issue. Please help me get it to appear as a Device in the Windows Explorer. I need to exchange files from my Mac OS to my Windows OS. Thank you in advance for the help.

I did it but i could not install tool from the dvd. As i said, i can still boot up windows xp i just needs to re-install the service tool.
The drivers are working properly.

I am trying to remove my windows partition and boot camp won't let me. It gives me a message +" The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows."+ Please help!!!!!

Use the Disk Utility to delete it and resize the partition immediately above of it so it takes up the released space.

  • Seagate external drive not recognized

Seagate Back Up Plus external drive is no longer recognized by my Macbook Pro. There were no warnings or prompts just one day was no longer recognized by Finder, Disk Utility and Disc Warrior can't see it either. I can hear the whirring sound of it starting up when plugged in to my computer. Any ideas how to get it back?

  • Seagate external drive not recognized since firmware update

I've looked through the posts here and haven't found this issue addressed specifically, so here goes. Any help will be appreciated.
I ran the firmware update on my MacBook Pro the other day, and everything has been normal since, except when I went to switch on my Seagate external HD - which I use as a backup drive - this morning. The mac doesn't see it at all.
Brought the drive into the office this morning and the iMac here, which hasn't been updated in at least 6 months, sees the Seagate right away.
I haven't upgraded to Leopard, though I have it, becuase I'm in the middle of a project and don't want any trouble with ProTools. In fact, I hadn't been making any updates at all, but in a moment of weakness ran the firmware update!
    Thanks in advance.

  • Toshiba External Hard Drive not recognized by computer. Please help!

I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have an external hard drive and it will not show up in "My computer" when I plug it in. I have tried other USB drives and other computers. I am starting to think it is a hardware issue but I don't want to lose hope. The blue light is coming on when you plug it in but it doesn't blink and there is no noise whatsoever. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue so that I can recover the information on it? Thanks in advance for any help. It is greatly appreciated.
Additional information: I'm not sure how old this thing is but the model number is HDDR160E03X.

Same problem: I can't see my Toshiba PH3100U-EXB (Gen 2) external hard drive when I plug it in. After awhile I get this error message (see attachment): USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. FOr assistance in solving this problem, click this message."
When I click it, I get a list of USB ports and devices, with Unknown Device in bold face. No real information there.
Yes, I ran Disk Management and the Toshiba did not show up when I plugged it in and hit Refresh.
Does it make a difference that the last time I used the external hard drive, we were in Windows XP and now we're in Windows 7?
Please help! It's not just the backing up I'm worried about...it's being able to retrieve files later!
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple discussions
Can you see the devices if you use Utilities/Disk Utility? Maybe you need to reformat them. Take care, reformatting will lose the data on the device.

hard drive not recognized during windows server 2008 setup

    Hi,
Whether the hard disk is recognized in BIOS?
Connect it to another computer to see if it could be recognzied incase the cause is the disk itself. Also please check if it is really a RAID instead of a single hard disk - a single disk should be recognized directly while RAID cannot be recognized until
    a suitable driver is installed.

  • IPod Touch not recognized by Windows Explorer.

My iPod Touch is shown in iTunes' list of devices but is not recognized by Windows Explorer.  Another possibly consequential symptom is that iTunes will not start when the device is connected to the computer.  Any help appreciated.
Windows 7 Pro, IE9, have verified latest version of iTunes.

If your iPod is recognized by iTunes (and by your photo app as a camera), then that's how it should be. To startup iTunes when the iPod is connected, check the appropriate option on the iPod's Summary page in iTunes.

Hi, does anyone here have MSI UBO-30? It is an external bluray drive from MSI. For some reason the drive is not recognized under windows 8.1 64 bit (it just says USB device not recognized). But works fine if plugged into Windows 7 machine. Anyone encounter the same issue?

  • Drive not recognized - new issue...help please

I am replacing a 120 GB drive with a 250 GB one to give more space for video files. On reboot, I get the message: You have inserted a drive not recognized...etc...with the choices to initialize, ignore or eject.
Then I notice that the drive on the same bus (in the bottom of the tray) is not seen on the desktop. It was in two volume partitions and was also a 250GB. Big mystery. So I remove the new one and connect just the older drive. No luck, message says ...a drive not recognized...etc. So then I change the jumpers twice - same results - and I remove the jumper...same thing. I see this drive in Disk Utility represented by a number and size (232 GB) but not by the volume names. And when I try to verify or repair, the option is greyed out (yes, I booted to the install disc and went to Disk Utility, as per instructions.
This disk has data on it I need, and it's not backed up. All I did was unplug the connectors and then replaced them as before. So please, tell me how I can restore this one. I could remove it and put it in an external FW enclosure and then see if it shows up, but I don't want to take chances. Worse case scenario is a data retrieval service - and I'm almost certain I shouldn't have to do that as this is a healthy drive.
Any suggestions very gratefully appreciated, thanks!
    Keith

Tom, I tried every one of your suggestions: set the older drive (Seagate) at P4 and first connector on IDE ribbon to cable select and the new drive (Hitachi) in tray just above it at P5 - end connector on ribbon also to cable select. Result: two dialog boxes for both drive on reboot "You have inserted a device not recognized..."
Then I tried slave on the Seagate and Master on the Hitachi...same result as above.
Then I tried alternate Master and Cable Select configs. on the Hitachi for 15 or 16 pin..whatever that is...but was printed on strip on drive. No go.
I think it must be another issue here than jumpers...although that may have something to do with it. When I installed a new drive in my Quicksilver I never got the Device Not Recognized dialog...it either saw the drive with all data on it or it didn't, until I set the jumpers correctly, as directed for that incident.
What bothers me is that when I removed the new Hitachi entirely and reconnected the old Seagate as the only drive on that cable, either with jumper set to CS or M or S I am still getting the dialog.
    Any other solutions, please.
    K.

  • Satellite A - DVD drive not seen by Windows Explorer

THe DVD deive on D is not seen by windows explorer. It used to work but has now disappeared. The dvd hardwars starts up at boot then ceases.
    Any ideas anyone?

Try removing the CD/DVD Filters from the Registry.
When CD/DVD related software is installed (such as iTunes, Nero, virtual CD software), they install filters into the registry, which can cause compatibility problems.
    1) Run Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
    2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    3) In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
    4) Reboot.
If your CD/DVD programs stop working, you will need to reinstall them (preferably with an updated version).
This utility can remove the filters for you:

  • Card reader not recognized in Windows Explorer

My Dell XPS 8500 has an internal card reader. An inserted card was always recognized as soon as it was inserted. After installing Lightroom, the inserted card is no longer  recognized by My Computer until after I start lightroom and begin the import process. I would prefer to copy my photos from the card to a chosen file on my hard drive without Lightroom's intervention. Is there a way to accomplish this?

Are you saying Windows Explorer doesn't show the card reader as a drive letter (E: or other letter), but LR does? Please take a screenshot of the LR Import screen and Windows Explorer screens as shown below. On my system the card reader appears as drive I: in both Windows Explorer and LR's Import module:

  • AirPort Extreme External Drive Not Recognized

I have an AirPort Extreme 802.11ac and am hooking up a Seagate 1.5TB external hard drive (USB 3.0 with backward compatability) to the USB port but it is not being recognized by Airport Utility. Does this need a power source? What am I doing wrong?
I did reformat the external drive from NTFS to be Mac compatible (Mac OS Extended - Journaled) and when I plug the external drive into my MacAir, it shows up and is completely usable. Once I plug into the AirPort Extreme though, it goes into the netherland and I can't find it at all.
    Help?

I have the HGST Touro USB3 drive that works fine with apple airport routers.
I did try and establish a sort of database.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5912861?tstart=0
Contributions are sadly lacking but it already shows.. some work some don't.. some work with hubs some don't.
    To OP..
As per Bob's comment.. you are now in Limbo.. since you don't know if the problem is the hard disk or the usb hub. And it is possible either or both are at fault.
Look at OWC as they seem to specialise in external drives for Mac/Apple world. They sell hundreds of different USB drives.. I recommend you ring and ask their sales staff .. explain the problem and what you want.. a disk that works with model xyz airport.. like the Apple document show.
Even from Australia we buy stuff from OWC as they have first class knowledge of apple systems. And if you look for specials they are excellent.. !!

  • External Drive not recognized anymore????

Just hoping I can find an answer about this from the community since I'm so inexperienced with the technical stuff pertaining to my iMac.  For some odd reason, and I suppose it could just be that hard drives don't last forever, not sure, a My Book Essential External 3TB, USB 3.0 drive all of the sudden is not recognized by my iMac nor my MacBook Air.  Literally overnight it just stopped being recognized by my apple computers.  I had a whole bunch of data on it that I don't know how I'm going to replace it if I can't get an answer to this. The drives light comes on when the iMac system boots up in the morning, but it don't fire up (I think technically it's called initializing).  Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

test with another computer even a windows computer should be able to detect it even if not mount it
because of the filesystem not being native supported
my wd my book ext 1TB usb2/eSATA/firewire died after 1-1/2 years after having problems spinning up a lot so I had to turn it on and off and on and off to get it to start
toke the box apart and put the 1TB hd in another external case and there it worked so suppose WD are better at making hd's then the external enclosure
