Boot Camp Update 2.1+ Killed Broadcom 802.11n Usage

Ever since Apple released the 2.1 updates I had nothing but problems with my wi-fi broadcom 802.11n. As soon as the update is complete my wi-fi no longer sees networks. I solve the problem initially by doing a system restore to pre-update and then not installing the updates. Then I set a system restore point and attempted an update and when it was done not only was the wi-fi no longer working but my system restore point disappeared.
The modem is working because when I log into the Mac OS it works straightaway. When I go into Vista I can use ethernet to access the net but not wi-fi. I go into the connections area and the broadcom modem says disabled. I click 'enable' and then approve and it says 'enabling' and then disappears but still says disabled.
I then upgraded to boot camp 2.2 and the problem is still there. I checked the driver settings and they are: 4.170.25.12 driver version. I've rolled back to the Microsoft version and same result.
I've tried so many things but cannot figure out how to get the Broadcom wi-fi working again. Anyone have anything similar happen or any suggestions?

I solved this problem after 9 hours. The solution was alluded to in another post I found through google. When I uninstalled the drivers and then went to re-install I chose to select the drivers and then view available drivers. My system showed 3 drivers, 1 Microsoft and 2 Broadcom. I chose the certified Broadcom from 2007 and that one works.
Hope its helpful to others.

  • Boot Camp Update to 2.1 don't work

    Hello,
I am new here. My MacBookPro runs now 2 years without problems.
I upgrade my HDD to a 500 GB model and it works fine.
The Windows Vista Business(now the English Version) don't accept the Boot Camp Update to Version 2.1.
Before I have used the German Vista Business and it works fine.
My Idea is, get the Boot Camp 2.1 from a new Installer DVD and install it. It should work. Or I wait until the Apple Update Service fix the problem.
I don't know? Do I really need this update? I update the Nvidia Driver allready separatly to fix a problem with my second screen and it run well.

Hmmm, please read carefully. It isn`t a problem with Boot Camp, I think.
Please tell me, if I am fail.
Boot Camp run perfectly on Vista 2.0 from my Leopard Installer DVD and 2.1 from the new Leopard DVD. I don't have one of the new DVD now, but a friend try it out allready. It run's. My question is, why I can't install Boot Camp 2.1 with Apple Software Update? In the German Version of Vista Business I don't have these problems. Why now with the English Version?

  • Boot Camp Update failure

Hello good people, hopefully someone can help.
Issue: Boot Camp Update 2.1 failing to install.
I recently did an erase and install on my MacBook. I have run through the steps provided by the installation guide (http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/). I then went to the Apple Software Update program within Windows Vista Ultimate (32bit), selected Boot Camp Update and selected Install 1 item. I then selected Boot Camp Update Download Only from the Tools drop down menu. I then opened the Open Downloaded Updates Folder...selected the downloaded file and selected Apply. that procedure produced a system restart. Restared and tried again, same result.
I have tried the above steps with security software enabled AND disabled.
Does anyone have a step by step resource to sucessfully install Boot Camp Update 2.1?
Thanks for reading, if you have any questions or suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

Do you have 10.5.5 DVD or later? you may not need 2.1, and it was a two step update, first to update Apple Software Update itself to 2.x, then to update other components.
Some programs like iTunes, Safari 4 beta and others include an Apple Software Update (and cannot be not installed, it gets installed regardless of choosing not to).
Some problems can be related to default language settings.

  • Boot Camp Update from 1.4 (beta) on WinXP Pro

I need some help. I have a 17" MBP core 2 duo running WinXP through Boot Camp 1.4 (beta). On the Mac side I use OSX(10.4xxx) - Tiger NOT Leopard.
I would really appreciate it if someone could post a 1,2,3... list of how to update my Boot Camp version. Do I even need to do this? Will it make anything better on my computer?
Also - the Boot Camp update is not showing up in the Apple Software Update (in Windows). I downloaded the Boot Camp update for XP and nothing happens when I try to open it. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Chris:
Fortuny is right. You will need to have boot camp 2.0 installed before you get 2.1 installed. You have version 1.4. you must first update it to version 2.0. For that you will need the Leopard Installation Disk. I know you are running Tiger however if you happen to have a Leopard Installation disk then the solution posted [HERE|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1499769&tstart=0] will work for you.

  • Early 2014 Macbook Air Boot Camp update?

    Hello support community,
I have recently switch to Mac, and find the machine very easy to work with. But still i miss some windows application, and i thought that my Mac would have boot camp support. I have never been so wrong, as the boot camp cannot download the lastest updates
So, my question is, do anyone know when they will release official Boot camp update for this Macbook air early 2014?
Also, should i play it hard using the rEFIt? Driver conflict may be an issue there.
Please help, and sorry if I did anything wrong, as this is my first post.

I'm afraid they are not the case. I prepared a FAT usb, the copying process was done, and it stuck right at the "Downloading updates" kind of things for hours. After some research, I deducted that this is because, according to recent boot camp update, the MacBook Air 2014 is yet to appear on the list of supported devices.
Guess I'll have to wait a bit more.

  • Cannot enable Broadcom 802.11n?

Hello! So I've used boot camp to run windows 7 on my macbook retina late 2012.
    I can't seem to enable Broadcom 802.11n?
When I run enable it says its been able yet stays "Disabled"?
    Help would be much appreciated!

    OK, this is my position:
    - original Windows 7
    - BootCamp drivers downloaded from Bootcamp assistant and not from the site as a mistake can be made in choosing what type
    - apply ALL Win 7 requested updates
If it still doesn't work uninstall BootCamp drivers (somewhere in this section is written how - sorry I'm in hurry...), restart Win7 and reinstall Bootcamp drivers.
If it still doesn't work then it could be a bug. I can't go further as my MBPro is a late 2011 and I can't make experiments.
    Let us know.
    Cheers

  • Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter not working on Windows 7 64bit

As the title suggests, my laptop (Alienware m17x) is installed with the Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter and Windows 7 64bit Home Premium.  I have had several other driver incompatibility issues with Windows 7, but those I have slowly been able to resolve.  This however just cropped up after two months of successful use.  Yesterday it started failing to connect to the internet, telling me that no wireless connections are available.  I live in a dorm, and everyone else on my floor has successful wireless, including my Ipod Touch, PS3 and XBox 360.  I called Alienware/Dell Support and we spent hours trying to fix the problem and all look well until I rebooted my laptop this morning and the same issue reappeared.  When I reboot my laptop, all I get is a notification that no networks appear in range.  If I uninstall the broadcom chip and let windows install it after a boot up it works until the machine is rebooted a second time.  I have tried over a dozen windows 7 drivers for the chip, and about half a dozen vista drivers and they all have the same results, works on the first boot, fails every time after that

Just registered to say, on an Alienware M17x system as well running Windows 7 Ultimate, here is a link to a solution that worked exactly for me:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/436486-guide-properly-solve-wireless-connection-problems-m17x.html
All I did was section I.a. If the link is down, I copied the only section that I needed to follow out of this guide, in order to get my wireless to work repeatedly without having to uninstall the wireless driver every single reboot. Now it works perfectly,
already connected to a wireless network on startup.
I.a. Disable Device sleep on disconnect
Some newer Nvidia Ethernet drivers have a feature called Device sleep on disconnect. This is the culprit. Normally, it should only put the Ethernet adapter to sleep when the cable is disconnected, but it's buggy and thus kills the wireless connection as
    well.
Follow these steps to disable this feature on your Nvidia Ethernet Adapter:
    1. Open the Windows Device Manager by hitting Win+Pause, then click on Device Manager on the left side.
    2. Double-click on Network adapters.
    3. Double-click on NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller (yes, that's the wired Ethernet adapter indeed).
    4. Click on the Advanced tab.
    5. Select Device sleep on disconnect.
    6. Set the Value to Disabled.
    7. Click OK and wireless should work again (might require a reboot afterwards, but probably not).

  • Boot Camp Update error 2753

I ran into issues getting a customer's 24" inch iMac 6_1 (2007)  to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7 with a stop at Vista along the way to preserve programs.
The Vista to Windows 7 jump failed and rolled back to Vista so some of the steps needed were:
    Upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6
    Update Vista to Vista SP2
Upgrade to Boot Camp 3.0 (boot into Vista and open the Snow Leopard DVD) - NOTE: other updates won't work without 3.0.
    Then it got fun.
I downloaded the 3.1 updater form teh Boot Camp downloads offered by Apple.(http://support.apple.com/downloads/#macoscomponents)
Trying to update Boot Camp drivers to 3.1 gave the error:
"Boot Camp Services: The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package.  This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2753."
Some solutions said to reinstall BootCamp but Boot Camp was not found in the "Programs and Features" control panel.
I was also told that deleting c:\windows\system32\AppleOSSMgr.exe (maybe renaming it would do?) would bypass this error but this file was not present.
Faulty install from teh OS 10.6 DVD? (copying the files and folders from DVD to local disk may work better. Didn't try)
On an act of desperation I booted into Vista and ran START > Programs > Apple Software Update and Apple Software Update knew 3.0 was installed!
It was able to update just fine.
After reboot, "Apple Application Support" and "Boot Camp services" were listed in Programs and Features.
Boot Camp control panel was listed, but would not launch "Application not found."
Apple Software Update offered me Boot Camp 3.1 again, so I'm going to try the 3.2 updater from the downloads page. (May try to "Repair" Boot Camp 3.1 from Programs and Features" control panel as well)
Also note there is a Windows 7 upgrade utility/patch offered there for anyone moving from Vista.
Maybe this was an obvious fix for the 2753, but I might save others ten minutes.
    Meta search terms:
(missing absent add remove programs control panel corrupted installer see can't cannot find faulty failed failure partial vista windows bootcamp upgrade 3.2 update updater)

Critical to the Vista - 7 upgrade was disabling startups and services that were not Microsoft.
The Win 7 was booting for teh first time and choking on one of these services.
After 7 succeeded, I did a complete backup, updated windows completely and started adding back the services. Nothing vital seemed to kill it. The updates may have been important but you can't get to them if the initial upgrade fails because of teh service-related crashes.
After that, I fixed audio with the Realtek drivers.
The Magic Mouse still isn't working, but maybe I can write back with that since the web lit is dicey.

  • External Display won't work with boot camp updates?

I'm using Boot Camp 4.0 with the latest updates - on Windows 7 x64.
I've been using my Thunderbolt to DVI adapter for months now on the same monitor (la2206x) and suddenly it doesn't work - forcing the resolution to 640x480, which, really is a lie because the monitor isn't picking up a signal.
Tried this with 2 other monitors as well with no luck.  I depend on the second monitor for testing and design/development, so this has become high priority issue.
And no downloading HP drivers does not work - thet PC doesn't even recognize them and reverts back to "Generic Non-PNP Monitor"
    Anyone else experiencing this issue?
    Kind Regards,
    J

I'd just like to add that this no longer works with OS X Lion 10.3.8 either...  Get your **** together Apple.  It's called MacBook "Pro" for a reason.

  • Unable to install Boot Camp Update 3.1 on Windows 7 32-bit on MacBook Pro

I have Windows 7 Professional 32-bit on my MacBook Pro and have Boot Camp 3.0 now. I've tried to install Boot Camp 3.1 both using the Apple Software Update on Windows and the installation from http://support.apple.com/kb/dl996 but it won't work. Are there any ways to solve this problem?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
do you have any kind of Remote Viewing software installed, like LogMeIn or Go To My PC ?
These are known to cause trouble with the the BC Driver packages.
Check if there are additional Graphics Adapter shown (apart from the "real" one).
If so, uninstall the remote software, do the 3.1 update and then reinstall.

  • Boot Camp Update 3.1 fails to install

I'm using a MacBook Pro 2010 and I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate x64 using Boot Camp. I installed with Boot Camp 3.0, and in Windows the Apple Software Update tool wants me to update to 3.1. Three times now I have downloaded, installed, and restarted my computer, and after every time that same tool tells me that I should update to 3.1.
Notes: I am running a with a single user account, which is a password-protected Administrator account. I give the software permission to run, of course.
Possibly related(?): At every startup into Windows, after the OS select and before the Windows load screen, I get a black screen with a single flashing underscore. I am wondering if it is trying, and failing, to apply the remainder of the 3.1 patch? Any other ideas? The black screen lasts for approximately 15 to 20 seconds before Windows continues to load.

I have the same problem. Could you help me?
    Thanks.

  • Boot Camp Update and W7 Mode

This is a new one on me. I was working in W7 and discovered after a time there was the familiar Apple s/w Update requester behind a few windows, It showed updates for Boot Camp - over 320 M and for Itunes and Quicktime. Problem is that it was not feasible to download at the time and I reverted to Mac
When I went back to W7 the update requester was nowhere to be found and when I did a s/w update on the Mac side it did not ID a Boot Camp upgrade
Questions. How do I get a s/w update to start in Boot Camp mode? How do I find it from the Mac side?
Thanks so much for any insights on this one
    Geoff

    Hi walking Shoe,
this is the update for Boot Camp 3.1 32-bit: [http://support.apple.com/kb/DL996]
    Its around 380MB.
You have to move it to the win side & install it in windows.
You can download the 3.2 the same way.

  • Boot camp update help!

I need to update my boot camp assistant so I can download windows 7 that I just bought. The boot camp that is currently on my computer is only compatible for windows xp or vista. Can anyone help me figure out how to get the updated version of bootcamp?

And, what version of OS X do you have installed? Boot Camp Assistant is only updated with new updates for OS X. Plus, you must have hardware that can be used with Windows 7.

  • Boot camp update affecting bluetooth?

    Hi,
Last night I was using Windows Vista on my boot camp partition and I got the Apple Software update letting me know there was a new version of boot camp available. When I finished my work I set it to update and everything seemed to go smoothly.
Today I've booted up windows and my Logitech V470 bluetooth mouse doesn't work. Windows sees it. I've removed it and reconnected it fine, but the pointer doesn't move when the mouse does.
I've also tried to connect my iPhone over bluetooth and that is also seen by Windows. I seem to be able to pair the devices OK, but when I then try to get my iPhone to connect to Windows it fails.
Any ideas what has happened here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

After playing around with the settings in Control Panel and rebooting a few times, my mouse has sprung back into life. My iPhone still won't connect.
Dunno what's going on, but at least I can work again now.
