Boot Camp Vista 32bit Install on New Unibody MPB - Questions

I have successfully installed Vista on this MBP.
I am using the windows install exclusively for gaming.
I have installed the drivers from my Mac OS X install disc.
1. Should I run the 2.1 Bootcamp update via apple software update in windows NOW?
2. Or... should I update to Vista SP1 first?
3. How do I ensure the machine is using the 512 video card when running Vista?
4. Where should I get the most updated Nvidia driver that will reliably work with this install?
5. How can I strip this Vista install down keeping the system reliable but maximizing system and video performance?

From what I see on 10.5.6 DVD, it has newer drivers than 2.1 download. (If it isn't broke, don't fix it, and the download doesn't allow you to choose what it installs).
SP1 can be done when you are ready. And after insuring you have a restore point, and backup image (Vista or WinClone)
The Experience Index, and customize to either let Windows choose, or turn off interface features. And minimize services.
Not always easy to know or get drivers to install, but Nvidia said that they would begin support for mobility graphics, which they never did before, in 2009.

Black/Blank Screen with Boot Camp Win 7 Install on new 27" iMac

I'm having a problem getting Windows 7 on a new 27" iMac and am familiar with the Boot Camp Windows installation process. Here's what I've done...
1. Run Boot Camp from OSX, partition the drive.
2. Insert Win 7 cd, proceed with installation.
3. Computer restarts and the 'preparing for initial setup' message displays with the Win 7 splash screen. When it switches to where it should be displaying the Win 7 desktop, the screen is black.
I can hear the Mac still running, but there's no display. It's like it's waiting for some type of user input for the intial Windows setup (haven't yet entered the key).
I've done a hard shutdown and restarted Windows with the exact same result. After reboot, I get the 'Windows was not shut down properly' message with the 3 safe mode options, where choosing either gets me the 'Windows cannot complete setup in safe mode'. And any key reboots it.
The Mac side still runs fine and holding the option key at start up gives the Mac/Win boot options.
I'm inclined to think that it's a video driver issue since the 27" is brand new. Maybe Apple used a new video card for the larger screen and haven't updated the Boot Camp drivers. I checked on ATI's site for an updated driver for the Radeon HD 4670 they say is in the new 27" model that's currently available. (not the quad core)
Is there any workaround for this? I was thinking of installing Vista instead, and upgrading to Win7 once installed, but if it's a driver thing, it would just be a long way to the same result and could have the same problem with Vista as well.
Any ideas?

I think I figured out what is happening here with the video drivers on the new iMac's and Win7. I believe it's re-directing the video to the mini display-port output when you see the screen go blank. I installed my Win7 x64 with no issues but I had an external monitor hooked up at the time and while it was installing the O/S my iMac went black but everything moved over to my external screen. Once it finished installing then everything went back to normal after a reboot.
Not sure if that helps anyone but pretty sure that's what is going on. So if you have another monitor handy, get the mini display-port adaptor from Apple and connect your external screen before you install Win7. Cheers!
P.S. If you have one of the new iMac's and want to install the latest Radeon drivers (after you have installed Win7 on your iMac), try the following. Download and install the drivers from ATI/AMD directly. They'll try to install and fail (no worries) but now the driver/install files will be unzipped into an ATI folder on your main Windows hard drive.
Now go to this site: http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php and download the tool and use the Vista instructions listed on the main page of the URL above. You shouldn't need to download the MSXML 6.0 and I don't think you need to disable the UAC stuff like they suggest for Vista (I didn't) and it works fine. UAC is not nearly as intrusive on Win7 as it is in Vista so I think that's why it worked for me and pretty sure the MSXML 6.0 is already in Win7. Once the program has modified the mobile Radeon drivers then you can run "setup" from your ATI directory and the new drivers will finally install correctly including the Catalyst Control Center. Voila! I now have 9.10 drivers up and running on my new 27" iMac and working perfectly so far.

Boot Camp users using XP via Boot Camp - Can you install Open Type Fonts?

Have any of the Boot Camp 2.1 users that have been using Windows XP via Boot Camp been able to install Open Type Fonts, i.e. fonts that are sold by Adobe?
I have now tried this on two new MacBook Pros, and I have tried three different retail versions of Windows XP on each system. It just does not work.
I keep getting the "Unable to Install Font" message, which suggests that I contact the font vendor, which I have. I have also tried many different versions of different fonts.
After having investigated with Adobe and Microsoft, and after having reinstalled Windows over 6 times on two different new MacBook Pros, I am starting to believe that this issue affects all new MacBook Pros and/or Boot Camp 2.1 users.
For some points, could someone please try to install an Open Type Font in Windows XP, and let me know if you are successful?

Experiencing the same from a fresh install of Windows XP on Boot Camp 2.1.
Tried 2 different scenarios. Installed Windows XP, Boot Camp Drivers, Open Type Fonts. Received an not a valid font file when trying to install. Installed Windows XP and then the Open Type Fonts. All fonts registered and accessed by the operating system without the Boot Camp Drivers. Installed the Boot Camp Drivers and checked the fonts, received error messages accessing fonts.
Pretty sure its the Boot Camp Drivers that are causing the problems with Windows and the fonts. Hopefully there is an updat to address this issue.

Again, no. Boot Camp drivers are NOT available for download. They are only on the OSX disks. (Only the updates are downloadable, not the base Boot Camp drivers.) There is no other way.
As I mentioned previously, you can borrow the disk from someone else. It doesn't have to be the same model, so long as it's Snow Leopard. (AFAIK, Boot Camp 3 drivers are only available on Snow Leopard disks.)
Either you need to find your disks, borrow some one else's, or buy another copy of OSX...period.

One major thing is that since installing Win 7 using BC, my Mac side has become significantly slower. Searching for anything now takes up to 1 min while it was instantaneous before. Opening new programs or new tabs in Safari also caused slight delay. Is this to be expected while having 2 OS?
Boot Camp will not affect OSX, unless you are took up too much space for Windows and didn't leave much for OSX. You should have at least 10% free space on the OSX partition. Anything less can cause OSX to run slow. (Same for the Windows partition: have at least 10% free space.)

Give your previous partition layout, you cannot install Windows via Bootcamp, unless you are willing to give up all your extra partitions and go back to EFI, OS X and RecoveryHD only configuration.

I am getting the error:

I read up some on google, but all of them says that they have crated a partition and that is the problem, I only have the standard "Macintosh HD".
I tried to create a partition manually in disk utility but then the error message: "Partition failed with error message: Could not unmount disk."
Can anyone help me? It's driving me crazy.

This message, and threads like yours got asked daily for over two years, now it is only a couple times a week!!
Is it so hard to follow through? you were to have backup already, clones are best, then erase/format and restore.
Then partition.
Some have been able to use Disk Utility booted from OS X DVD or another drive, and repair the drive.
You have to use Boot Camp Assistant (99.9% anyway) to create and achieve a proper Windows Master Boot Record partition.

You don't even need to do that. As downloading the drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant can be unreliable, it is better to get the package directly from here:

Copy the .zip file to a USB flash drive or burn it to a DVD in OS X. Install Windows as normal, insert the flash drive/DVD in Windows, copy the .zip file to the hard drive, extract it, then run the setup executable.

2007 MBP 10.7.2 - Boot Camp "Can't Install Windows Support Software"

For a few weeks now I've been trying to get Boot Camp going to install Windows 7 on my Macbook Pro. Whenever I go through the assistant, I always get the message "Can't install Windows Support Software becuase it is not currently available from the Software Update server".
The download bar does progress a bit as data is being downloaded, but then stops at about 15% and gives me that error message. Any ideas?

From what I've read the "Download Update" option as you install Lion only works for some MBAirs and it's a hit or miss on all others. (mostly a miss).
You might do a Search on the error you get as there are quite a few discussions on those problems.

Copying Boot Camp Vista partition to new hard drive

This is OS X Lion using Boot Camp version 4.0.4 with Vista on a separate hard drive. I want to move it from an 80Gb drive to a 1Tb. Looking for the quick and cheap way of copying the bootcamp partition to the new drive because it's the same Mac Pro so only the drive size will be different. Google searches has me using two software to copy the Apple bootcamp and Winclone to copy Vista.
Isn't there a simpler way without purchasing software I will only use once? I'd rather just reinstall Vista and the other software manually than pay anything over $20 to do it.
Any advice is appreciated.

My apologies. I didn't make myself clear. I followed the proper procedure and got the error message. I tried the other formatting to see if it would help. All the same results.
I found a possible solution on another Apple thread. I am going to move the drive to have Vista installed moved to the first stall on my Mac Pro 1.1. It is claimed that this will bypass the issue of GP if do that. Then after installation I can switch them back.
I will post the results. I had no issue the first two times I did this since using Bootcamp when I first got this Mac Pro over 7 years ago.

I've been working with Vista on my iMac 24" (Core2Duo 2,8GHz 2007) using a Boot Camp partition. I'll be migrating to a 27" Quad-Core iMac soon. Does anybody out there know if there's a smooth and simple way to also migrate the Boot Camp Partition without new installing Vista OS and Windows Apps?

I figured graphics drivers would be an obstacle...just talked to a friend and got some advice:
1. When display stays black after installation of Windows 7 64 bit (signal is on Mini-Display port)
restart from Windows 7 DVD - open command prompt (shift+F10) and delete all ATI Drivers.
2. Restart Windows 7 with default graphics drivers. Download ATI Desktop drivers, modify using ATI MobilityModder, install modified drivers.
It works.
Use of Magic Mouse's multi-touch features in Windows requires Apple's Bluetooth update 1.0 for Windows.

Boot Camp - Won't Install Windows XP or VISTA - HELP!!!

Okay so i tried both windows vista and XP. I make a partition everything goes well but, when i clicl Start Installation it tells me that "The installer CD could not be found. Insert your Windows CD and wait a few seconds for the disc to be recognized." I tried the Vista and XP before on the Boot Camp Beta b4 Leopard was released and it worked now whatever i do it doesn't work. Any Ideas??? I really need this to work!!
I tried burning it again to see if it'd work and it didn't!!

Once Windows is installed, and while it is running, put the Leopard CD into the drive and an autoexec on it should take over and install the drivers. Make sure when you boot the install disc that you put Windows on the BootCamp partition and don't overwrite your Mac partition. Also review throughly the BootCamp install guide!
