Boot camp XP on mac Pro with Leopard

I have tried to load windows xp onto my new Mac Pro. The firmware is up to date. The files load but the startup disk never ejects. The computer says that it is starting up windows, but never enters into the windows start up screen. The computer continues to run drivers over and over again. Is there anything I can do to continue the process?
Please help. I have installed it on other machines with no trouble ( older mac book pro"s) but never on a macPro

I'm having the same problem. I only have the keyboard that came with the iMac. Love to hear some other ideas of how to get past this.
Each time I've attempted I've had to just turn the power off while in this mode, then restart while holding down eject to get the windows disc out. Luckily it restarts with my normal Mac settings and desktop.

    Thank You

I don't use Bootcamp/Parallels/Windows but I saw in the Bootcamp forums that someone solved this issue by going to the ATI site and downloading and installing the X1900 drivers for Windows (http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html). They had to do this while in Windows (which was difficult) do to the garbled screen but managed to suceed. Not sure why they didn't download the trial version of Parallels and do the same thing with an ungarbled screen.

  • Ableton Live and VST plugins with XP (Through Boot Camp) on a MAC Pro?

I am completely lost when it comes to macs, i am considering buying a mac pro with leopard but i have literally thousands of pounds worth of music production software (ableton live 6, reason 4 vst's etc etc) on my pc that i want to use in xp on a mac pro. Will all software like this run identically the same as it would on my pc that i have at the moment? I don't want to fork out this large and excessive amount of money again for this software. My pc is far too slow for the heights i'm getting to and also keeps crashing which is super annoying! Any help would be awesome, many thanks - Al

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
running Windows through BootCamp on a Mac is like running Windows on any other PC.
The Mac hardware is used natively as long as there are all needed drivers installed.
Aplle provides all needed drivers together with BootCamp.
However, given the fact that the Mac Pro uses 'Workstation'-like Hardware (mainboard, CPU, RAM) it is always possible that a certain program will not run, especially when it needs some kind of Protection-Dongle.
And these dongles have to be USB-ones, because a MAc Pro don't have Parallel or Seriell-Ports.
And you should use either XP Pro with SP2 or at least Vista Business to utilize all of the four-cores of the two CPUs.
The Home versions of Windows can only use two-cores (one CPU).
Personally I would say that you won't have any difficulties, but I don't have/use the programs you mentioned.

  • HT3777 why does my boot camp on my mac pro ask for a windows 7 disk

why does my boot camp on my mac pro ask for a windows 7 disk?  Can I just install my vista home premium in and proceed?

Lion and Mountain Lion can only install 7 under BootCamp.
You can load Vista under a VM (virtual machine) such as Parallels or VMWare Fusion or VirtualBox (Oracle ownload).

  • Best Router for both a Mac Pro with Leopard and a Dell

I have posted this question in another forum, but maybe this discussion page is the better one for my question, especially in light of all the connectivity problems I'm reading about for people who have upgraded to Leopard -
Can anyone suggest a good router to purchase that would work with no problems for a Mac Pro with Leopard?
Or, the other side of the coin - what routers have you personally had problems with?
I would be connecting to the router via an ethernet cable, but I'm looking specifically for a g and b router. I need to cover my roommate too - she has a Dell and she uses a wireless usb adapter to connect wirelessly. We have a modem (cable or DSL, I think?) and high-speed internet service.
We were previously using a Netgear router, but suddenly it won't work for more than 10-15 min before it loses connection after we reset it. And this happened before I updated to the Leopard.

Apple AirPort Extreme has served my mixed environment very well. You can buy a refurbished one from Apple and save some $.

  • No Flash Video Playback on Mac Pro with Leopard

I recently purchased a Mac Pro with Leopard, Final Cut Studio
2, and Adobe Production Premium suite. I got everything setup
yesterday, and I exported a Quicktime reference file from Final
Cut, and brought it into Flash CS3 Media Encoder. The file seemed
to encode fine, but when I try to open it, it shows that the Flash
Player opens, but the video never actually opens. I also tired to
import the FLV file into Flash Pro, and it acts as though it
imports, but it does let me preview it. The ONLY thing that I think
could have caused a problem is that I also have Sorenson Squeeze
installed, which has its own On2 VP6 encoder. Again, this may have
nothing to do with it since I copied the file to another Mac
machine that did not have Sorenson on it, and downloaded the
standalone Flash Player, and it acted the same. Any ideas on why
FLV files would not play back would be greatly appreciated. I have
ALL updates installed for OS X Leopard, as well as the CS3
    collection. Thanks in advance.

I really appreciate your help with this. As simple as it
sounds, I was really wrapped up in getting a second HD editing
suite up and running, and had not done my homework. Prior to your
post, I tried to play 5 different FLV files on 3 machines. None of
them played until I downloaded a great FLV player. Once I installed
the FLV player, all of the videos played flawlessly. Thanks
    again!

I've heard that some routers are having problems with leopard and macs in general, so I wanted to be sure I'd be getting a good one before I go out and spend a hundred bucks or more.

    a linksys wrt150n i got mine for about $99 to 129
    and its pretty good
Since the cd comes with pc only software follow these instructions
1 hook up the router to the modem
    2 connect to the router
if you want to add a password continue the steps
3 you may have to plug in the router to your mac if not skip this
4 go to http://192.168.1.1 using the password admin
5 now your in the routers menu
6 change the network name if you want to
to add a password go to wireless once you click on it under you will see wireless security select your setting oh by the way passphrase is a name for password if you didint know.
sorry if that was a mouthful if you still dont understand
    email me at [email protected]
it works great with my imac my dell inspron and even my ipod touch

  • Boot Camp, Vista and Mac Pro X1900XT

    Hey all,
I'm experceing what appears to be a common problem with the Mac Pro with X1900XT option and Boot Camp.
Vista installs file and everything is recognized except for the Radeo X1900XT card. When I boot up, I get what appears to be 16-colors displayed. When I tried to use my Boot Camp driver disk, everything installs fine except for the Radeon card.
I've also tried downloading and installing Windows Vista Catalyst drivers from ATI.com (version 7.3 as the release notes mentioned HDMI is supported by that version) and still the same problem and now my Vista crashes constantly before I log in.
Has anyone experienced? Suggestions or a workaround?
P.S - I also own a black macbook and the same copy of Vista worked flawlessly on it, even with Aero effects turned on.

The Mac Pro needs 4 FB-DIMMS minimum.
While this Mac Pro I own is the most capable, flexible and enjoyable machine I have ever owned, who says it will run circles around your friend's custom built? I suspect for many/most tasks you would be correct. Except for 3D simulation. PC video cards have higher performance clocks and drivers.
After using my MP 2.66 for 6 weeks as a PC and a Mac I have concluded:
This is a Mac, and should be used to run Mac OS (the real reason to buy a Mac). While it's great to be able to run XP and Vista on a Mac, for general purpose apps usage (geek nirvana), if high performance video cards are critical get a PC.
The Macs strength, is the dividends returned by it's tight integration as a platform. For example, I popped in a second video card and it just worked. No half dozen pop-ups telling me about new hardware and all that blather.
Once I get this sling off of my arm, I will be building a PC for heavy duty simulation.

  • Boot Camp help on MacBook Pro with no DVD drive

I purchased a 2010 15" Pro from a friend that just ordered a new Mac. He removed the CD and installed a 128 SSD as the primary drive and used a DVD shell kit that now houses the 2.5 SATA drive as the 2nd drive.
I want to load Win 7 using Boot Camp but I am running into a problem. I have downloaded all of my drivers and have a USB DVD attached. I get as far as installing windows in the Boot Camp setup, the Mac reboots to install 7 but when it reboots I get a flashing icon at startup the switches between an 'X', an 'apple' logo and the 'NO' symbol (circle with a slash).
How do you load windows with no DVD?
I made a bootable USB from my 7 ISO but that doesn't seem to work either. Any suggestion?
    Mike P

ISO issue: burn to DVD has to use another program or if you use Disk Utility use the slowest 2x burn speed
A driver is provided in download for MacBook Air models that lack a DVD.
Swap the superdrive back for the install is what 98% finally bit the bullet and works.
There is also an issue with having two drives present during Windows install.
So you need a USB-DVD driver on USB flash for those Macs that do not have a DVD (no one uses CDs)

  • Boot Camp on new Mac Pro (Late 2013)

I am stuck with a Boot Camp installation on a new Mac Pro.
I have tried Windows 8.1 Pro, Windows 8.1 Enterprise, and Windows Server 2012 R2. (Can't try Windows 7, obviously.)
All three give me this at the end of setup:
Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration. Installation cannot proceed.
I've tried letting the Boot Camp Assistant do everything, I've also followed the advice in several posts that suggest interrupting the process by booting back into Mac and using Disk Utility to format the Boot Camp partition as FAT, ExFAT, etc. All lead to the same error after rebooting to the USB drive and commencing with Windows setup.
Windows finishes the installation, seemingly, but it just doesn't seem to be able to update the boot data.
So, what's the trick? How did other MacPro6,1 users get Boot Camp paved? Is this a firmware update I'm going to need to wait for?
I tried support, it was a joke. Apple couldn't pass me off to Microsoft quick enough; and Microsoft couldn't pass me back to Apple quick enough. I think that's the most I've ever identified with a tennis ball.

What happened to the body of my question? Can everyone else see it, just not me?
Oh wait, I see. This entire site is completely broken in Chrome:

  • Boot camp on 2006 mac pro

I am trying to set up my 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 to run Win XP with boot camp. I used the original Tiger install disks to put OS 10 (10.4.11 after software updates) on the machine.
Now I want to run Boot Camp assistant, but can't find it in the Utility folder, and furthermore, I searched for "boot camp", and did not find it on the computer.
Did I misss something in the install? Years ago when the machine was new, I clearly remember Boot Camp assistant (beta?) in the Utilities. Can someone help, and more to the point, tell me how to install Boot Camp Assistant.
    Thank you for your consideration.....

BETA. It was not included, and expired in 12/31/2007.
    Currently requires 10.5 or later.

  • Can i "copy" a 200 GB boot camp partition from Mac Pro to MBP?

i spent a lot of time working with virtual machines and i have decided i simply have to increase the size of my mac pro HD and put a boot camp partition in it.
can i COPY a 200 GB windows 7 boot camp partition from my 1 TB Mac Pro drive to a 200 GB partition on my MBP that will have a 500 GB drive?
this would let me focus on doing a full install and full setup on the Mac Pro and just copy this over to the MBP (when i get the new drive) saving me a ton o time.
    TIA
Also, is this something for WinClone?

    hi kappy. THANK YOU.
is it possible that you or anyone has actually done this machine to machine and partition to partition?
i want to avoid a situation where i try to do this only to find it works better or is much simplyer to the the fresh install on the MacBook Pro just fresh.

  • Seeking advice, Boot Camp on a Mac Pro, how to install on internal HDD

Mac Pro, march 09, dual quad core, four internal hard drives.
I named the four HDDs, Drive 1, Drive 2, Drive 3, Drive 4. Drive 1 has the Mac OS. I plan on dedicating the entire Drive 4 to Windows OS and video storage.
    Questions:
    1. Right now I have Boot Camp installed on Drive 1. I want to remove it and start over because I made the mistake of installing Win7 Pro 32 bit. I bought the 64 bit version for the new install. To remove the existing Boot Camp do I simply use Boot Camp to make Drive 1, one Mac partition again?
    2. Drive 4 is a Western Digital Black Caviar 2 TB. Should I make the entire drive one partition?

    Hi,
    1. The BootCamp Assistant in OSX is indeed the best solution to remove your current Windows installation/partition.
+To delete Windows and the Windows partition:+
1 Start up in Mac OS X.
2 Quit all open applications and log out any other users on your computer.
    3 Open Boot Camp Assistant.
4 Select “Create or remove a Windows partition,” and then click Continue.
5 Do one of the following:
If your computer has a single internal disk, click Restore.
If your computer has multiple internal disks, select the disk with Windows
on it, and then select “Restore to a single Mac OS partition” and click
    Continue.
Since you are fumbling with the partition structure on your harddisk you should have/make a backup or bootable cone of your OSX before starting, just in case.
    2. A good recipe for installing Windows 7 on a dedicated harddisk is to pull out all other harddisks (the first three in your scenario) then boot your MAcPro from the WIndows 7 install DVD and install it on the fourth HD.
After completion of the WIndows installation you can then reinsert the other three HDs.

Sounds like you did not download and then install the Windows support/driver software. It is one of the first items in the Boot Camp menu when you start Boot Camp Assistant.

  • Why would my Mac Pro with Leopard 10.5.1 reboot when I do a safe boot?

I turn on the computer. It bongs. I hold down the shift key and keep it held down. The gray Mac screen appears and then the spinning wheel indicator appears and runs for a few minutes, then the computer just reboots. The computer boots just fine otherwise. I can also boot into single user mode with no problem.
I don't recall trying this when the computer was running 10.4.x, so I can't be sure it's specific to the computer, but my guess is that it's specific to Leopard.
Anyone else try a safe boot under Leopard and had a similar experience?
