Boot disk Vista Home required after new HDD was placed!

Anyone that knows what to do now? I never received any discs with my Laptop (legal purchase). I have windows Vista Home on my laptop?
Anyone had the same problem and has it sorted? Will any boot disk download work?
Does anyone have a good tip? Thankyou.

Hello
All new Toshiba notebooks are delivered WITHOUT installations discs and you must create such disc alone using preinstalled "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator". the shortcut of this application is placed on the desktop.
When you buy new notebook and start to use preinstalled operating system small recovery disc reminder with follow content should be shown:
*+Important INFORMATION+*
*+your system is equipped with hard disk recovery system. If you need to repair your computer by restoring it to original factory state, you can do it directly+*
*+from harddisk (press F8 when you boot your computer, choose "Repair your computer" and follow the menue instructions) or create a bootable Recovery Disc Medium for this purpose.+*
*+Toshiba recommends you to create Recovery Disc Medium using the "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" to ensure that you are able to restore your computer to the original factory installed state, even if your computer gets seriously damaged.+*
So please create recovery DVD using empty DVD-R medias. I presume you need 2 of them.

  • Can I use system restore disks to re-image after a HDD replace?

G60 laptop with Win7 Home Premium 64. OEM HDD (250GB) died (thankfully, had all data backed up). Have had no other issues with this machine.
Purchased new HDD (320 GB) and installed with no problem. Booted with disk #1 of recovery set. Progressed to about 48% then displayed the following error: "Recovery Manager cannot restore your computer using factory image.
Please contact HP support. Error code: 0xe0ef000e"
Second attempt reached about 8%, then same error. Third attempt, 28% then same error again.
I have resored this same machine with these same disks previously a couple of times, and now it takes significanly longer to get to the 28% point.
Temporarily moved CD drive to another machine, and it reads disks just fine. Recovery disks appear to be in good condition (No scratches, fingerprints, etc.).
Could there be hardware ID that is preventing recovery from working? Orsomethint else.

    Hi:
It is very hard to say why the disks aren't working, but it happens quite a bit.
If you purchased the disks from HP, see if making this CD patch and running that first helps.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-80183-1&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en
If you made the disks yourself, or the patch didn't work on the factory HP disks, you have one other option if you can still read all 25 characters of the W7 product key on the bottom of your notebook and that is to make your own W7 installation media.
    Here's how...
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • No Sound after New HDD and recovery on CQ61

    Hi All,
I am at my wits end trying to repair my mother-in-laws Compaq Presario CQ61-401SA !! She had a major crash on her HDD which could not be recovered, so after buying a new one and the recovery disks from HP here is where I am.
I have installed the new HDD. I have recovered the sytem software and Windows 7 64-bit. I installed all windows updates, and installed her own software, mail etc, and restored her files I had backed up. I then, quite pleased with myself took the Notebook back to her, but when we installed Skype, we discovered no sound ! I have tried upgrading the drivers and notebook bios, but still nothing. I have tried the WIndows Troubleshooter and the HP troubleshooting but there is still no sound !
I have taken the machine back to factory state again, without any extra software or files, and still cannot get a sound from the machine ! If i power the machine and repeatedly press a key, the speaker beeps, so i know it is working ! HELP HELP HELP !
    Yours frustratingly Bobpg69 !

You can try running the Apple Hardware Test from your installation disk. I also know that optical drives can cause this problem so it may be worth disconnecting the Superdrive and see what happens.

  • Grey screen with apple logo after new HDD install

I have a mid 2010 iMac A1312, this was given to me recently with the knowledge of its bad HDD, so I bought a new HDD. I followed step by step instructions on how to replace a Hard drive and I did. I switched the computer on and inserted my Snow Leopard 10.6.3 install disk and clicked the icon. It is now at a light grey screen with a dark Apple logo. I have waited about ten minutes and restarted the machine. Ive tried all variances of startup holding down c, option, command r and so forth. Currently I am going to give it a good long wait of 20 minutes or so  and see if I was just being impatient and not allowing the install software chance to start up. But in the mean time... any suggestions? I have read I need the original disks that came with the computer from factory to get a new HDD going. Is this true? thank you for your time!

it has now been 30 minutes and no change. I still have the grey screen with apple logo. please help

  • Migrate from PC Vista Home Edition to new Mac Air Lion

I have tried following the support instructions but my pc running vista home edition will not be recognized by my Air running Lion using Migration Manager or vice versa

Thanks, Ralph. I used both articles to guide me, and followed them to the letter. Downloaded Migration Assistant to my Windows machine and connected correctly. However, the window that I get on my Air when I open Migration Manager has three options but none of them mention PC - the nearest I can figure is an option for connecting "From a Time Machine backup or other disk"; the other two options are from or to another Mac.
Any help would be appreciated. I have already wsted hours on what is described as a simple operation.
    Thanks

  • Disk Utility can't format new HDD

So I just got a new 4TB drive (WD4003FZEX 4TB 7200 RPM) for my Mac Pro that I'd like to partition... one volume for Time Machine on the boot drive, the other volume for back-up for the two other drives I have in there. I just installed it and initialized the HDD, formatted to Mac OS Extended, but since that finished, I now have two problems:
1.) Disk Utility cannot/will not format the drive (the HDD itself, not the volume). It's not that the Erase option is greyed out or not working, it isn't even there. When I select the disk, it only has two options... First Aid and Partition.
2.) Partition only works partially. I can add a partition, but the Name, Format, and Size fields are all greyed out, so I can't rename the volume or adjust it's size.
    What am I missing here?

Never mind. Found this thread, did what it said, and it all works fine now.

  • Importing Home Folder after new hard drive and Lion Update

    (Okay, long title.)
Had to replace my hard drive. Was running Tiger.
Backed up my entire Home Folder only, on an external harddrive, before it failed completely.
Hard drive replaced, and then loaded Snow Leopard, updated to latest version, 10.6.8.
    Ready now to get Lion.
    Questions:
    - After I install Lion do I simply use the "Transfer Information to This Mac" feature to bring in my Home folder?
    - What about the apps that are duplicated, such as Mail, Safari, iCal, etc. Will that be taken care of on its own?
    - What about the iLife apps, GarageBand, iPhoto, etc.? Will I be able to update those to the latest versions?
    Thank you.

If the username and password combo is identical, then you'll need to unhide the new hidden user's Library folder, then open both home folders and transfer you're stuff. Do note that you might get you can't do that messages. For those items, move the new ones into a newly created Desktop folder, and then you should be able to copy the Tiger ones. Once done, restart so the copied stuff is put into RAM and is available for your other steps, such as reinstalling the apps.

  • Boot Camp Vista 32bit Install on New Unibody MPB - Questions

I have successfully installed Vista on this MBP.
I am using the windows install exclusively for gaming.
I have installed the drivers from my Mac OS X install disc.
    1. Should I run the 2.1 Bootcamp update via apple software update in windows NOW?
    2. Or... should I update to Vista SP1 first?
    3. How do I ensure the machine is using the 512 video card when running Vista?
    4. Where should I get the most updated Nvidia driver that will reliably work with this install?
    5. How can I strip this Vista install down keeping the system reliable but maximizing system and video performance?
    Thanks!

From what I see on 10.5.6 DVD, it has newer drivers than 2.1 download. (If it isn't broke, don't fix it, and the download doesn't allow you to choose what it installs).
SP1 can be done when you are ready. And after insuring you have a restore point, and backup image (Vista or WinClone)
The Experience Index, and customize to either let Windows choose, or turn off interface features. And minimize services.
Not always easy to know or get drivers to install, but Nvidia said that they would begin support for mobility graphics, which they never did before, in 2009.

  • How to get my data back from TM after new hdd/re install

my main drive broke, so I have replaced it and reinstalled 10.6. I was on 10.6.2 and let TM do its thing, so I do have all my documents/downloads/etc backed up in TM, but i am a relatively new user to OSX.
After the reinstall, when prompted, I set the original TM drive to be the new TM drive and then I shut down (had to come to work lol).
So, before I carry on and do something wrong, how do I get my documents, mail, downloads and applications back from the TM? Will I have to do the UID thing to match the TM drive/user as my OS drive is a new physical drive?
    sorry for the noob question.

You did not have to reinstall OSX. The best, most reliable way to recover your entire system from backups is to use the procedure Apple provides for that, as detailed in #14 of the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* at the top of this forum.
Your best bet is to start over with that procedure.

  • Slow boot on Vista Home Premium - Satellite U400-15b

    Hi,
I have just bought Satellite U400-15b and am finding it takes a very long time for Vista to boot up, I have gone into msconfig and disabled the things that I am not using and stuff I think that is not necessary, but still having to wait ages before I can use the laptop. I have enough RAM and processor speed so I dont think the specs of the laptop are a problem
Is there anything that can be done about this slow boot, any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello
In my opinion slow boot-up or slow notebook operations depends on right OS configuration. I played with this last months and I am now satisfied how Vista boots and runs on my notebook.
I wrote about it in one another thread and if you have some time have a look under http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=134947
Please let me know what do you think about all this.

  • Keyboardmap messed up after new kernel was installed

    Hey guys,
Was installing Arch the other day, and completed the installation of the base system.
Today I wanted to do the rest. I got to the point where I upgraded pacman and did a full system upgrade.
Got a new kernel, and according to the beginnersguide, after a kernel install, the pc will reboot or something like that.
It didn't reboot, so I issued the reboot command manually. The pc rebooted and when I wanted to log in, the keyboardlayout was messed up.
    The keys had entirely different positions. R was P, O was R , T was Y.
Also, during the install of the basesystem with the livecd, wireless worked fine, but when I wanted to install stuff to the base system, wireless didn't work.
It could find the networks, but couldn't connect to them.

    Hi.
I see that this post is starting to get old, so you probably figured out the solution, but here it is anyway...
I had this problem to, and after many hours of trying and failing, i finally figured out that the reason for this, is that the update also installs the keymap "dworak/no", and since dworak is listed before qwerty, it selects the dworak layout. You should be able to use "qwerty/no" in rc.conf to load the normal keyboard layout.
And btw, sorry for my bad english
