Boot drive not found (folder with blinking ?, etc)

Ok, I'll give some background. I may be misquoting some of the error messages, but I'll try to be as close as possible...
This is on a Early 2011 15" MBP running 10.9.1. Harddrive has been replaced with an SSD.
I was running low on space so I deleted a bunch of stuff - all form my home folder. Noticed that the free space wasn't there and I figured, hey, Filevault, so I rebooted to give it a chance. No problem, rebooted and there was a lot more disk space. For some reason I then decided it'd be a good idea to run Disk Utility and do a Verify on the disk. That's when the problems started.
Verify told me I should run a repair, so I did. Repair told me it can't repair the disk right now, but that I should reboot, hold down CMD+R and use the Disk Utility from THERE to do the repair.
So I did. Rebooted, CMD+R, Recovery, Disk Utility, Repair.
The Repair in there told me "Live File System Repair is not supported" or something to that effect.
So I figured I'd reboot and google that.
Only after that, I get the flashing question-mark folder.
So I figure it just forgot where the startup disk is. I power off and power back on while holding Option.
And the only option it gives me is "Internet Recovery".
I tried a whole bunch of times. Nothing. Eventually I went into Internet Recovery, ran THAT Disk Utility. That sees my drive just fine. I can double-click and enter the password tolet it access it, and I was even able to run the repair then! (it found a couple of very minor things). I ran repair permissions, too, just for good measure.
When I quit recovery it told me I might want ot choose a startup disk. Perfect! And the only one offered is my drive (even has it custom icon). I choose that and recovery tells me it's "About to boot 10.9.1 from Mr. Harddrive".
...and then I get the flashing questionmark again, and Option-boot does not show that drive. Oh, I tried resetting the PROM at some point, too.
Right now I've got that machine booted from an external drive which happens to have OS X on it. I can fully access the system drive, all the data is intact, no problems at all. But I'd still like to, you know, be able to boot from it.
Anyone have any ideas?

Here you go; the drive that I can't get too boot is /dev/disk3 (Mr SSD) but it looks like it's showing up as /dev/disk0 too?... I have no other 256GB drives in the system. I'm not sure why it's showing up like that and with slightly different sizes (maybe filevault?)

  • Why do I get a boot drive not found error only when laptop lid has been closed?

    I've got a HP Mini 210 P/Number: VX818EA with Windows 7 Starter.
It works fine when turning on after shutdown, but when I've put it to sleep by closing the lid it won't 'wake up', and I get a blank screen. On restarting the computer I get a 'boot drive not found' error, (3F0) which can be resolved by following the steps on this page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01443463&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc...
I've run disk check etc as suggested on that link, no errors are found, but nothing seems to resolve the problem more than temporarily. Seems odd that this only happens if I close the lid (sleep mode with the lid up is fine, doesn't crash the computer).
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Very strange, can you go to BIOS and reset the setting " By Default " ?. How did you check the disk ?
This is an unusual probleme Hp Mini 210 . And notice me after your reset the bios settings.

  • Hard disk error "boot drive not found...."

After screwing around to see how hard it would be to upgrade my hard disk, I started getting the ol' boot device not found error.
So, I went online on another machine and found that I could boot into a menu of boot devices by holding down the OPTION key.  It presents me with options to boot from DVD, external drives, network, or lo and behold my MacHD.  If I select my MacHD, after a minute it will boot as usual and present me with the
logon screen.  I could just let it go and continue to do this, or what can I do to put it back the way it was so I can boot without holding down a key?
My intention is to upgrade to a 2TB drive as I see it's easy enough for me to do myself.

    Try SMC and PRAM resets:

  • Eclipse plug-in error - driver not found error with DB2

    Hi,
i am using websphere studio developer and the kodo 3.0 implementation.
I have set up the kodo plug in and i get an error when i try to create the
    database schema:
    kodo.util.FatalDataStoreException: No suitable driver
It can't find the DB2 driver. This is the information I have in the kodo
    properties:
    javax.jdo.option.ConnectionDriverName: COM.ibm.db2.jdbc.app.DB2Driver

iMac G5 won't boot Past Grey Screen. The G5 froze and i restarted, It will not go past the grey screen and it has the finder folder with blinking question mark, also the fans kick on wide open. As it atempts to boot a sound plays "beepda beepda beepda beep" that starts quiet and gets louder and repeats a couple of times. I ran a hardware check on the startup disk and all hardware passed. I thought it might be the RAM any suggestions?
I have restarted using the troubleshooting methods in the guide.

Sorry for the late reply. The drive shows up when booting to disk, but it will not allow you to verify disk or repair. Also it will not allow you to select the hard drive to reinstall the software. Under disk utility Maxtor sabre shows up with total capacity:0 bytes.
I've taking the Mac to the Apple store to get looked at, and its probly the hard drive. Now Im trying to see if theres a way to recover the data myself. I've used software like "Data Rescue" the hard drive shows up "Maxtor Sabre" totally capacity: 0 bytes, and it will not recover anything.
Did this test just to see if it was power problem.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2173
Thats when noticed the beeps are coming from the hard drive. So its getting power.
Now just wondering how to recover data.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
Can you post back with the following.
    1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook - see Here for a further explanation.
    2.  The full version of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 32bit ).
    3.  Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at f10 as you start the notebook to enter the bios menu.  Under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run a test on the Hard Drive.  Post back with the details of any error messages.

    Hi @Darren104
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I saw your post regarding the Boot Device not Found error message. This HP document Resolve Boot Device not Found Error Message will show you how to reset your BIOS. This will force the BIOS the look at the hardware and it might see your new hard drive. Another reason that it might not be seeing the hard drive is because there is no bootable operating system on the hard drive. Can anyone provide a solution to this problem. Thanks

    YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!
    I got it!!! Yes!!!
Guys, I've solved my problem about that error -10202 (Selected driver not found).
I have installed in my Mac Pro (OS X 10.5.8) a document with an extension ".rsrc" to correct the position of the accents in my keyboard, like acute accent, tilde and circumflex.
That file is called "U.S. - International.rsrc" and it's stored in the following path:
    "Macintosh HD/Library/Keyboard Layouts"
So, when it's properly installed, I can choose 2 country flags on the right side of the menu bar (U.S. - International and Brazilian).
    That's the clue!
When I pick up "U.S. - International", my keyboard works fine with the accents, >>>BUT<<< Logic Pro 9 doesn't recognize my audio driver; and when I pick up "Brazilian", my keyboard doesn't work with the accents exactly as it shows me on each key, BUT Logic Pro 9 DOES recognize my audio driver.
So, when I want to write anything out, I will pick up the "US - International" and when I want to work on the Logic Pro 9, I will pick up "Brazilian".
I hope I can help all of you.
    Regards,
    Renato Veiga.

  • Table Driver Not Found message during initial boot up - What is this?

Every since upgrading to 10,5 when I boot or change accounts I get the message, "Table Driver Not Found". I am not sure what program this is but there is what looks like the letter A and an art stand? I press ok and never see it again unless I log off or reboot.
    Any clue?

Did you mean "Tablet Driver Not Found"... oh you did in the title!
So, did you ever have a Wacom Tablet or anything installed before?
Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.

  • Boot Device Not Found Please Intall an Operating system on your hard disk. Hard Disk - (3F0)

    Hello,
I tried to re-install de OS from windows 7 to windows 8.1 and when the bios update driever was installed and the laptop was restaring it appeared the folowing window and message:
Boot Device Not Found Please Intall an Operating system on your hard disk. Hard Disk - (3F0)
After that i tried a lot of different ways to get to boot device select ...but i couldn't do anything. I removed the HDD and i put it back, i've tried with holding in the same time windows +B and pressing the power button in the same time for 1..2 seconds and then i've waited for at least 1 minute..and it didn't appeared anything on the screen. I've done the hard drive check and it passed. The weirdest thing is that when i want to select a boot device to re-install again the OS, i can't see any boot device to select. I need to mention that i've formatted the HDD in another computer. I dont care about the informations from the HDD beacause i saved all the informations on another device storage.
Please help me repair this problem!!!  thanks a lot!
    Have a nice evening.!!!

Whenever you get a message stating that the boot device not found it could be because of bad sectors on the Hard Drive. Its not necessary that the Hard Drive Test should fail to determine if the Hard Drive if its faulty or not. Sometimes even if the Hard Drive Test passes the Hard Drive will still not work because of the bad sectors in it.
Best way to find out if its the Hard Drive you can try the Hard Deive on a different Notebook which would help you determine if it's faulty or not.
Could be due to Application or driver conflicts, virus issues, file corruptions due to incompatible applications, improper shutdowns, update failures due to conflicts, sudden power surges, if notebook is dropped etc..
HP will provide a replacement Hard Disk Drive if the Notebook warranty is Active, If not you need buy a SATA Hard Disk Drive from a retail shop nearby
Please make sure you are getting at least equal capacity as the original one in order to use Recovery Disks. If you need you can buy a larger, but not smaller capacity Hard Disk Drive. For example if you have a 500GB Hard Disk Drive you can upgrade it to 750GB Hard Disk Drive but not 320GB Hard Disk Drive
Please try the below shown troubleshooting steps once:
Step 01. Remove the battery and unplug the AC/Power Adapter
Step 02. Press and hold the Power button for more than 30 Seconds
Step 03. Plug in the AC/Power Adapter (leave the Battery out for now)
Step 04. Press the Power button and check if the Unit works normal
If the above mentioned steps does not help, then you can try reseating the Hard Drive on your Notebook
If the issue persists again please Contact HP if your HP Notebook is under warranty, HP would replace the Hard Disk Drive and provide you a Recovery media to restore factory operating system after replacement (if you've not yet created Recovery Discs/USB Media)
Note: Back up all the personal data to an external drive if it's possible. Otherwise you could connect the failed HDD via SATA to USB adapter with another PC or same PC after replacement of HDD & re-installation of OS and try copying /recovering the files.

  • Windows 7 install stops at "CD/DVD driver not found"

When trying to install Windows 7 with boot camp, all goes well until it stops and gives me the "CD/DVD driver not found". I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro with a 500 GB SSD drive. I have burned a DVD at 1X from a iso file.
    Thanks

Can you verify the MD5/SHA1 of the DVD with the ISO using OS X 'openssl md5' or the M$ FCIV tool? The source of your ISO should be able to provide MD5/SHA1.
    OS X Example
    openssl md5 ~/Desktop/GRMCPRXVOL_EN_DVD.cdr
    MD5(/Users/MyName/Desktop/GRMCPRXVOL_EN_DVD.cdr)= 977f4f0f1400be91855789213e07b031
    Windows FCIV example
    D:\>C:\"Program Files (x86)"\FCIV\fciv
// File Checksum Integrity Verifier version 2.05.
    Usage:  fciv.exe [Commands] <Options>
    Commands: ( Default -add )
-add    <file | dir> : Compute hash and send to output (default screen).
                    dir options:
                    -r       : recursive.
                    -type    : ex: -type *.exe.
-exc file: list of directories that should not be computed.
-wp      : Without full path name. ( Default store full path)
-bp      : specify base path to remove from full path name
-list            : List entries in the database.
            -v               : Verify hashes.
                             : Option: -bp basepath.
            -? -h -help      : Extended Help.
    Options:
            -md5 | -sha1 | -both    : Specify hashtype, default md5.
-xml db                 : Specify database format and name.
To display the MD5 hash of a file, type fciv.exe filename
    D:\>C:\"Program Files (x86)"\FCIV\fciv -add Windows8.1-64bit.cdr
// File Checksum Integrity Verifier version 2.05.
