Boot freeze with 6600gt on k8t800 neo fis2r in turbo mode

Hi, thought i would seek a little advice before i decide to just build a new system and burn this one where it stands,
when i first built my PC i had;
amd athlon 64 3000+
msi k8t neo-fis2r mobo
1gb ddr 400 ram
2 x 160gb hdd
dvd & dvd-rw
550w psu
then the part i regreted most nvidia fx 5200 128mb agp.
had everything setup nicely and had my bios set on turbo mode - seemed to make a noticable difference. then i decided to stop being cheap and bought a new gfx card, sparkle 6600gt 128mb agp 8x and at the same time i got a new case which has a 350w - 450w max PSU (arctic cooling Silentium T1). ever since that i cant enable turbo mode in my bios, otherwise it just does memory test and stops without detecting devices. i press del to enter bios setup but it just changes the del: bios to go> bios and does nothing else. so i have to clear cmos and start again
so my instict is either telling me
a) gfx card stopping motherboard running in turbo
b) psu too puny
which of these would it be likely to be if anyone can help me out. ive rolled my bios back to v1.0 which was used when the turbo mode was fine and the problem is still persisting and ive been through every version inbetween back upto 2.2. the system works fine in fast mode, i would just prefer turbo mode because it did make a significant difference for playing games, boot time, movie editing etc.
thanks for any help,
Phyre

It may well be the Sparkle Vid Card. I have heard a ton of complains of late about them. I am not that familiar with those particular cards or even the brand. You may want to do some checking around... Guru3d may be a great place to start as graphics cards are their primary discussion topics. Also use Google to see what others are saying about them.
I agree that the 5299's are pretty lame these days for gaming. It's a great card if your primary concern is productivity but todays games can use it but mostly at low res with few features or levels of detail without a huge hit in frame rates.

  • Boot freezes with an extra broken logo

    Hello,
I have an iMac Intel ( 2008 ) and a problem came up so I figured if anybody knew anything about this as we don't have the biggest support in Greece to be honest , to help me.
I pushed the power button but it gets stuck on the boot screen after the "bong" sound but it shows a second apple logo next to the 'original' one but it is broken as extra pixels.
    /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/180/18006624-1.jpg
At one point after many shut downs ( keeping the power button pressed ) it booted normally but after 5 mins of use it gave me the same big 'pixels' on my screen and then the classic black screen asking for a reboot.
Has anybody seen anything like this before?
It can't even boot from a CD as it gets stuck on the boot logo always giving the same result at the moment.
    Thanks in advance.
    Constantine.

    iMac Intel 24" 3.02ghz / 4gb mem / nvidia | OS X 10.7.3 ( all updates where done ) | HDD WD Caviar 1TB
I checked the HDD 2 days before my mac crashed and it was free of errors, and yes I have my backups I'm just worried about the iMac and was trying to search for some advice before I take it to an AppleStore as I am not very fond of them here in Greece.
My guess was the graphics card as well.. :/
I tried the safe mode as well and again it does the same thing, it freezes with all those particles and never proceeds to the OS and pretty much after 1 minute it automatically shuts down.
    Thanks for the reply rkaufmann87.

  • [MSI P67A-GD53 (B3) P67] Frequent boot freezes with A3 code / SSD HDD problems

    Hello
I experience frequent freezes on boot with black screen and A3 code. After turning off power and rebooting it usually boots OK but then very often Windows fail to load restarting itself just when logo starts to appear. After another boot Windows usually starts OK.
A couple of weeks ago however those problems led to situation where I experienced a total freezes of Windows when accessing certain files on SSD drive. I've read that low level SSD HDD erase might help with that so I've done that and reinstalled W7. A3 code freeze still happens from time to time and yesterday Windows froze again. I've turned the computer off and after restart MoBo didn't see the SSD drive at all. I've opened the case, checked the connections and restarted again. A3 freeze again. Another restart and this time SSD was detected and W7 loaded properly.
According to this doc (http://www.ami.com/support/doc/AMI_Aptio_4.x_Status_Codes_PUB.pdf) A3 means 'IDE Enable' so I guess there is a problem with one of the HDDs (SSD most likely). I've updated BIOS to the latest version (I guess that also clears the CMOS, right?) but the problem still persists.
What else can I do to fix that issue?
EDIT: Just wanted to mention that I haven't had any problems with that SSD drive on the old mobo (different CPU type/socket though)

  • B580 Not booting (freeze) with attached USB3 3TB Drive

    Hi,
I owned some weeks ago a 3TB WD MyBook. Anythingis fine, except I do not disconnect this drive while (re)starting. What i did done:
    - check varios BIOS settings (turn of USB Boot, disable USB3 etc.)
    - update Bios (now 1.16)

    hi B580user,
Just to verify, were you able to get the 3TB WD MyBook drive on another PC?
Looking around, I saw that were numerous firmware updates done for this drive. If you're having problems getting the 3TB WD MyBook detected on other systems too, I would try and update the firmware of the drive first.
    - Firmware update v3.2.4.2 (updated 12/19/2013)
    - Firmware update v3.2.4.2 release notes
    Regards

This brings up a nice icon of a padlock and a place to type letters or words and then there is another arrow in a box. Is this Open Firmware? I dont have an open firmware password...Ive tried entering my user password but it doenst accept it. ( I did change my password last week, did that create these problems???) how do i by pass that password????? Is it open firmware? (the date reads 1904 when i do the command option-O F command, and i cant get beyond that either...HELP!!

    Hello,
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Utilities from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access the Menubar at top.

  • Probems with msi 875p neo Fis2r and network controller driver

Hi guys just wondering if anyone could help me with my msi 875p neo FIS2R and problems with the network controller driver/network card.
I'm running xp on a computer my nextdoor neighbour gave me. I got it working fine  with service pack 3 installed but then installed a bunch of windows updates last night and the computer would switch itself off before windows could start. Now I reinstalled xp and unfortunately it does not recognise the network controller/card at all now. I tried installing the intel network controller drivers but it stopped because it said no intel adapter/card was installed/present. Could anyone please help with suggestions? I tried running everest and under newtwork it doesnt list intel network adapters but I'm pretty certain it is. Again any suggestions?

Clear CMOS with your PSU unplugged from A/C power.  Then load "Optimized Defaults" in BIOS and retest.

will try that and post later if it worked... ive never cleared cmos, this sort of thing is relatively new to me but thanks again

  • Is PXE network booting supported on 875p Neo FIS2R?

    Hi all,
I have spent a full day trying to get my computer to boot via PXE from a remote server.  My computer is equipped with an MSI 875p Neo FIS2R motherboard.
    relevant stats are as follows:
    Motherboard: MSI 875p Neo FIS2R
Ethernet Card: Integrated on Motherboard (Intel 82547EI (CSA Interface Gigabit LAN))
The PXE server to which I am trying to connect is running Windows 2000 Server and is configured with Windows Remote Installation Service.  The server has been tested with another pxe client (my laptop) and I am able to boot over the network succesfully.  It looks like everything is configured properly on the server side.
I am using the msi motherboard's Intel 82547EI integrated ethernet controller when attempting to connect to the server.  I do not have another PCI ethernet controller that I can try as an alternative.
I could not find any mention of network booting in the boot sequence section of the BIOS configuration, nor anywhere else in the BIOS settings.  I have made sure the integrated ethernet controller is enabled in the BIOS.
I also upgraded the BIOS to the most recent version (2.4) but there is still no sign of any 'network boot' settings in the boot sequence nor anywhere else in the BIOS settings.
See the following webpage for the BIOS versions:
    http://www.msicomputer.com/support/bios_result.asp?platform=Intel&model=875P%20Neo-LSR/FIS2R%20(MS-6758%20PCBv1)&newsearch=1
Note that BIOS version 2.2 specifically mentions:
"This BIOS fixes the following problems of the previous version:
    - System cannot login to PXE server without floppy drive installed."
This seems to suggest that the motherboard supports PXE.  While I do not have a floppy drive installed on my machine, this BIOS update indicates that a lack of a floppy drive should not pose a problem.
When booting the computer I am presented with a few keystroke options, one of which is to press F12 for a 'Network Boot'.  After pressing F12 I receive no indication that the computer is attempting to contact a PXE server and the computer boots into Windows XP as usual.
I have searched the MSI forums and have yet to come across a solution.  Signs point to there being PXE support but I must be missing something.  Can anyone give me any definitive answers here?  Thanks in advance.

I've since been in contact with MSI technical support.  Oddly they cannot seem give me a definitive answer on the support of PXE in MSI motherboards so again I'm turning to you guys.  I'm really hoping someone out there has some experience with PXE and any sort of MSI motherboard.  Surely someone must have run into this issue before.  Anyone?  Anyone at all?

If that doesn't work then I will give you the advice that others gave me... and just makes sense.
Get rid of all OC'ing, increase RAM latency, etc.  Your rig might be a little slow for a while but at least you will determine if something in your hardware just can't handle the extra strain.  If you can get it to run stable on slower settings then you can gradually start bumping things up.
Oh, one more thing that I just thought of.  Have you done any tweaking in the registry?  There is a registry key called disableexecutivepaging that can speed up your general performance but can cause death under a heavy load.  Just a thought.

  • How to disable AGP Fast Write with MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R ??

How can I disable AGP Fast Write with the MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R ? I can't find an option for this in the BIOS !

You wont usually find this option in most MB BIOSES , as the only Option that SOME BIOSES Have is the Option to enable, disable SBA (Side Band Addressing) for the AGP Bus....In order for you to Disable or Enable the FW, You Must have the Option in your Vidio Drivers Controll Panel.....If you have a NVIDIA Card, you Must go to  http://www.guru3d.com  And Download the program "NVHardpage" and then Open the Program and you wil have the Choice to Enable these options and they will then appear in your Vidio driver CP >> "Activate "Coolbitts" (this is NVIDIAS Overclocking Utility) Activate "Harware Options", and then Activate "AGP Options" and finally Activate "Performance Options"........If you have a ATI Card then you must Download one of thier "Tweeking Utilities".......I will Post the Direct "Link" for NVHardpage in a Minute, just say yes to the Lic. • Zalman CPU heatsink and K8T NEO-FIS2R

I was wondering if somebody tried zalman 7000(AlCu) or Zalman 7000(Cu) on MSI K8T800 Neo FIS2R? I just saw on the nVidia forum that the nForce "platinum" board needs to get the original backing plate "peeled off" before installing such HSF. I was wondering if it was the same thing with the Via based board and I was also wondering if the HSF fits on the K8T800 Neo FIS2R?
    Thanks for your help

Why did they had to glue the backplate on the neo platinum mobo!!!?!?!?   I think I'll go write some comments on the "feature" section of the forum...
Anyway... I think i'll go with the KT800 FIS2R mobo...  I liked the features on the neo platium, but that glued backplate is a pain. I also read this comment:
    http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20040610112501.html
and it makes me nervous... Abit not using nForce chipset for stability reasons...
By the way...  Thanks for your help! Now I just have to wait for the MSI geForce 6800 GT to come out

  • 875P NEO FIS2R repaired

My board which died with BIOS 1.3 was repaired by the reseller today. I witnessed the process and thought you guys would like to know.
This guy knew from experience that an 800MHz CPU wouldn't work when trying to get the board back to life again, so first of all he put in a 533MHz CPU (don't know core clock, but doesn't matter I guess)
Then he took out my 2x512MB samsung PC3200 and put in a single pc2100 module.
After that he put in this custom (PLC programmer?) card from MSI in a PCI slot and powered up. From the status LEDs on the PLC card he knew it didn't work. Power of and back on: success. Power off and PLC card removed. Power on and boot from floppy to flash BIOS to v1.4. Flash successfull. Power off and power on: dead. Power off, clear CMOS, power on: dead. Power off, remove PC2100 module and insert corsair module (don't know spec, but it had heat-spreader), power on: POST. Entered BIOS and load setup defaults. Reboot: POST. Power off, removed CPU & memory and put my stuff back. Power on: POST.
    System repaired.
I asked if it is safe to mess with mem timings in BIOS v1.4. He said that it's possible that the board won't POST then, but that can be cured by CMOS clear and when needed only one memory module (no dual channel) to get the board to POST again.
But I'm not going to try that. SPD is fine for me right now.
    System runs great again.

I had the exact same problem with my new 875P Neo FIS2R, but after reading the post from Francois I tried my own little test.
I was upgrading from a 2.26/533 system with 333 memory so, of course, I still had the old CPU and memory.  After being hung on the 'Keyboard Init' step on the D-Bracket after my 1.1 to 1.4 BIOS upgrade I swapped the old CPU and memory onto the board.  Everything worked fine!  I was able to see the 1.4 upgrade took fine.
Afterwards, I removed the old stuff and put the new stuff back on and it still works.  I have no idea why, just thought I'd share.

  • 875P Neo-FIS2R: Memory stays at 333MHz

I recently assembled a new system with the MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R motherboard. The specs are as follows: Pentium 4C 3GHz 800MHz FSB, 1GB Samsung PC3500 Cas 2 DDR. The problem is I can't seem to get the memory to run at 400MHz, no matter what BIOS I use. The memory is capable of running at 433MHz with the tightest timings, yet I can't even get it beyond 333MHz. Please help me!
    Scott

I bought the MSI Neo-FIS2R last weekend, together with a pair of Corsair XMS3500C2 256M memories & a P4 3.0C processor.  Darned expensive kit, but I was impressed with all the features on the MSI board, and I decided to go for the performance RAM to squeeze every last drop of performance out.  The Cosair modules are supposedly guaranteed to do 434MHz 2-3-3-7-T1.
    http://www.corsairmicro.com/xms/xms_modules.html
My board came with 1.1 Bios, and I've flashed to 1.2 Bios.
In my experience over the past week with this board, the Bios is totally hosed.  It just doesn\'t do anything.  I can get terrific boot screens, 3.6Ghz, 3.8Ghz, but nothing really happens as far as overclock.
And the same thing is true for memory.  I can change the memory settings all I want to, and Sandra and Aida give the same results.  And, these results are not as good as the reference data for other 875P systems in Sandra and Aida.  It appears MSI bios is simply running these Corsairs at Bios default timings 2.5-4-4-8 and nothing I do can change this.
Corecell does produce some overclock changes, but I don\'t like Corecell.  Computer bluescreens, have to clear CMOS.  Start Corecell again, bluescreen, clear CMOS.  Repeat until tired of this.
Nice kit, but way too expensive for the performance I'm getting.  Hope they fix it, or this stuff goes back.

  • K8T NEO FIS2R can't use the RAID controller....

I have this very strange issue.
As soon as I connect a harddisk to the Promise (378) controller of this board and assign it to an array, the system doesn't work like it should.
    Symptoms:
    - MS Windiag (a memory testing application) reports thousands of errors
    - Memtestx86 causes a spontaneous reset within seconds
    - I can try to install Windows, but the process never completes; during the installation everything works really really slow (partial XP installation takes over 2 hours!)
    - Linux gives me a kernel panic while booting
    My system specs:
    - MSI K8T Neo FIS2R (bios 1.5)
    - Athlon 3000+
    - 2x 512MB PQI memory (tested with GEIL/Kingston/Infineon memory as well, the problem persists!)
    - Radeon 9700
    - Levicom PSU (34A RMS on 12V line) (also tried Enermax 460W and Antec tru power 480W)
    - 2x WD Raptor 36Gb (RAID 0 array 1)
    - 2x Maxtor Diamond plus (RAID 0 array 2)
    - 4x optical drive
I just can't figure out what's going on here... if I don't use the onboard RAID controller everything is fine.... but I need it for my two arrays... (besides that, it should work, shouldn't it?).
Is this perhaps just a bug in the BIOS of my system? If so... MSI please resolve this issue, my computer is worthless for the time being.. :(

YAY! This memory tester seems to work correctly..!
If I put a single module (PQI memory) in DDR slot 1 I get loads of errors. In slot 2 and 3 they work just fine. When combining two modules, using slot 2 and 3, I still get some errors (32, all above 1000Mb)... but it's the best I can get out of my 1Gb.
Is it safe to assume that this is a compatbility issue that can be fixxed by buying some supported memory?
