Hi does someone know how to downgrade the bootloader to older versión as it seems Apple installed a new versión of the bootloader on osx lion and after i updated i couldnt boot from anything but original boot DVD and i need to boot from my contability OS copys witch i have a lisece witch i piad for i allredy restored from the recovery DVD of my Mac but did not work as it did not changed the bootloader. Apreciate any help!!

I do not know about Disk Warrior but if you have a compatible OSX on an external HDD you certainly can boot the MBP. Use startup manager:

Solaris 10 - how to boot from the dvd media

Hi,
Could any body guide me on how to prepare the dvd media for solaris 10 installation? I downloaded the 5 dvd images and have no idea on how to put them together on a single dvd to boot from it. I zipped all the dvd's and burned them on a dvd but it doesn't boot from the dvd. Any help will be most appreciated. I can't wait to use solaris 10. Thank you.

That is true, but remember that you are doing this in DOS and the file names and locations have to be right. I put the 5 files into a root directory and just renamed them 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
copy /b 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 file.iso
file.iso would be the name of the resulting image. You can use anything, i.e., solaris10.iso instead of file.iso if you want.

HP DV7: Boot from CD/DVD (Linux installation)

Hello,
I have a HP DV7-3150ed with Windows 7. Now I want to get rid of Windows 7 and install Linux Ubuntu. I already created a boot dvd with Ubuntu. But now my problem, although I selected my DVD drive in the BIOS it does not boot from my DVD drive. It just boots from my HDD. My DVD drive works well within Windows 7.
If more info is needed to solve this problem, just let me know.

Hi,
Try the following.
Shut down the notebook, tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to access the Start-up menu, insert the Ubuntu disc, select Boot Options ( f9 ), use the arrow keys to highlight the optical drive and hit enter - if you get a prompt to 'Press any key to continue', do so and see if it boots from this disc.

SP6000 won't boot from a DVD (but does boot from CD)

Hi,
It's the second time I try to boot a Linux Live DVD (burnt on DVD-RW), to no avail: the disk spins for a few seconds at several (low) speeds, then the boot reverts to HD. On the contrary, it boots fine from a recovery CD or a Win installation CD (both burnt on CD-RW).
Is this a known "feature" of the SP6000 BIOS, or of the drive (Toshiba SD-C2502)? Can this be circumvented?

For some reason, I've had to change the BIOS' boot order (typically F2 at start-up) to have the CD/DVD drive in the first position when booting from a DVD in order for the drive to complete the process. Merely selecting the CD/DVD drive by hitting F12 is insufficient.
It appears that the CD/DVD drive either resets or is powered down too quickly to get through the amount of data on a DVD, but a CD is small enough to finish the load. Reordering the BIOS seems to keep power and attention on the drive though.
Let me know if that works.

Cannot boot from CD/DVD on Toshiba Satellite

I want to install Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on my Toshiba Satellite laptop from my DVD with the .iso image burnt onto it. Now I need to know how I can boot into Linux live from the DVD to try it. I've tried a number of things: tapping Esc, [holding Fn]+tapping F10, [holding Fn]+tapping F12, tapping F10, tapping F12 a number of times (why would they redo the keyboard layout?), and holding the "C"-key. Nothing worked.

So it is, bios recognizes my cd / dvd drive already, but before the drive name is an exclamation point in front, for example before it looks like this:

I think it has something to do with the exclamation mark, because before that it was not there. When I start windows I can use my DVD drive as normal.
The first format was not a problem, I could boot from windows dvd, only, I have the notebook during the operation is canceled, since I can not boot from DVD.

Win 7 pro installed on hp touchsmart 320-1030, the machine cannot boot from installation DVD. Assist

I have installed Win 7 professional on hp touchsmart 320-1030 with an OEM DVD to overwrite Win 7 premium preinstalled from factory.
I want to reboot the machine with the same DVD after completing the installation, to test for possibility of reimage in case of crash. Although in bios, I specify cd\dvd as firts boot media, the machine cannot boot from installation DVD. I have 20 machines that behave this way. Can anyone assist?
Note: I had to delete all partitions on the PC before doing a fresh installation of Win 7 pro as Premium can not joing domain.

So, you installed Window 7 Pro with a DVD, you boot with it to install the O.S, and now it does not work?
Have you tried to load the BIOS default values or even updating the BIOS?
If it had work before, cant understand why it does not work now...

Booting from CD/DVD drive on HP Pavilion 17-e158sm Notebook PC

I have a problem with my new Notebook. When I bought the computer it had free dots on it, soo i decidet to instal windows 7 on until I could get windows 8.1. The only problem was that windows 7 was 32bit. Now I have windows 8.1 64 bit on a DVD, soo I cant updait my widows 7, because it is 32 bit. The only way is to instal my new windows by booting from CD/DVD drive in BIOS. But I here is the problem. The notebook doesnt want to boot from DVD, it starts Windows 7 every time. I tried everything, like changeing the Boot order. Please help.

Have you checked BIOS to see if Secure Boot is enabled? IF so disable it. Enable Legacy .Clear all secure boot keys.
Btw.When you installed Windows 7 did you boot from the dvd?

Problem: installed new hard drive but can´t boot from leopard dvd

So I just installed a new hard drive in my ibook G4. At first I started up the computer using the leopard DVD I had purchased. Got to Disk Utility and after a few seconds in the spin wheel came up and froze. So, I shut the computer down and when I tried to boot it again from the DVD I wouldn´t even reach the apple screen. Tried it a few times unsuccessfully.
As an alternative I just tried booting the comptuer using the original CD and it did read it.
I am currently at the installer page but I am concern about installing the old CD as I really would like to run the leopard dvd 10.5.
Is it that my ibook g4 can´t be booted from leopard dvd?

OK, so I decided to leave my computer resting all night and give it a new try this morning.
This morning I was able to boot from the Leopard DVD, so I don´t really think it is a problem with my superdrive. Started to format at 32 minutes to complete. Then towards the 10th minute the spinning wheel appeared, I heard the fan running, then it stopped and then I heard the superdrive making some reading noises. Then all noises stopped and now the spinning wheel continues..not sure what to do now.
In the meantime, I wanted to share also another problem that I´ve been having for quite some time which I don´t know if it is related to my current problem. It is with the computer power:
- I´ve been experiecing load surges that take my computer from 100% to 1 or 0% and then goes to sleep or shuts down. The same thing happens when I am charging the computer.. it starts charging and showing 2 or 3% charge and then jacks up to 100% in minutes.
- My computer also makes like a slight humming noise sometimes when the ring around the power cable is in orange color, so I move it around until it stops. When I do that sometimes it goes from orange to green eventhough it is not fully charged. There has been times that under green it appears to be charging (battery charging icon on desktop shows up), and other sometimes like right now when it is in green color and the battery icon on the desktop says ´99%´. Weird enough, once I get the cable in a certain position it enables the battery to charge, if I keep it without moving it, the load surges disappear (at least for some days).
Should I try resetting the PMU? I´ve not done it because I don´t know what consequences it may have.
NOTE: When I bought the computer I never calibrated my battery because I was (and still are) clueless when comes to computer technicalities. I tried using a different power adapter and get the sample problem.

Ibook g3 M2453 boot from external DVD drive

But the iBook has no DVD drive. So I bought an external DVD drive. But no matter what I do during boot (press the C key or alt)
I can not boot from external DVD drive.

das läuft nur mit einigen wenigen externen Gehäusen. Such auf Ebay nach "PL-3507"
und nimm eins mit Firewire und USB Anschlüssen.
Ein Festplattengehäuse von Delock für 2,5" Festplatten ging auch ( Link oben)
Ein Boot ist nur möglich wenn du die ALT Taste nach dem Einschalten drückst und dann über den Startup manager dein Boot volume auswählst.

K8T Neo - no boot from CD/DVD

I have a K8T Neo FSR board, with 512 MB, one 250 GB ATA hard drive and a DVD writer/drive. It refuses to boot from the DVD drive. I've done all the standard things - going into BIOS, checking its boot order, disabling the SATA drives, even slowing the memory speed down from 400 mHz to 200 mHz. And yes, I've removed the battery and power cable and let it sit for 24 hours to reset the BIOS. None of it works.
The DVD drive runs during POST, but does not run during the time that BIOS is looking for boot devices. It does not boot. BIOS recognizes the drive, but whether I set it to "auto" or "CD/DVD" in BIOS, the drive does not run.
I have used a floppy disk (a modified Win 98 boot disk) that loads ATAPI drivers. The disk boots, but the drivers do nothing to help me boot or even read anything from the CD/DVD drive.
I've even put in another power supply (that has 22 amps on the +12V line) and still, no joy. Anyone have any ideas?

Okay, please note the new signature line. As I say, this info will not help you one bit. These are all common components, nothing exotic and nothing unearthed from a swamp. The person on eBay who sold me this motherboard says that the system booted fine for him when he ran it, he did not overclock the processor, and he is mystified as to why the system won't boot.
I have swapped out the DVD drive for others (notably a Pioneer from my Mac G4, I think it's a DVR-106), and I did try different settings on the drive (master, slave, cable select) and tried it on the other channel. I've switched out the secondary IDE cable for a new one, and it's a cable with a key plug so it can't be plugged in the wrong way. And I've tried auto settings and the DVD/CD setting in BIOS for the drive. I cannot set up UDMA mode, since that selection is greyed out in BIOS. That shouldn't matter, as that is a high-performance setting, and booting is a low-performance task. Remember, the drive light is not coming on when BIOS starts going through its boot devices.
And to answer another post, yes, I've set the entire boot order to CD/DVD. Plus "try other devices" so that at worst, it'll boot off the floppy.
At this point I'm prepared to follow BOSSKILLER's suggestion and flash the motherboard BIOS to 2.2 with a floppy boot disk, unless I hear a lot of objections. Other than that, I'll have to take this to a tech, who probably won't have a clue and won't give a damn about a homebrew system ("Why don't you just throw all that in the trash and buy a nice, new system from me? There's nothing wrong with PC Chips!")
Sorry if this is a bit abrasive, but this is something that should not happen, especially to an MSI motherboard.

I searched for this problem and found some people saying to switch it to CSM boot or disable secure boot but none of these options are available in the BIOS. I have it set to normal boot instead of fast so thats not the problem. Can anyone help me here? I am trying to reformat and reinstall Windows 7. I know the Windows 7 installation disk I have is good because I have used it in another computer and the cd/dvd drive works fine. I just can't get it to boot from the cd/dvd drive before the HDD.

It's certainly easier to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. All the drivers and utilities are preinstalled in the proper order. Windows is preactivated.

Installed HP UEFI Support Environment, now no option to boot from CD/DVD when pressing F9 on bootup

I have an HP ENVY TouchSmart 17-j153cl 17.3" Touchscreen Notebook

I stupidly installed...
HP UEFI Support Environment - sp63599
...withou knowing what it does.
Now when I hit F9 to change boot order on bootup, I no longer have the option to boot from CD/DVD. The only two options available are to boot from OS boot manager or boot from efi file.
How can I uninstall sp63599 so I can boot from CD/DVD again?
If I select Legacy Boot in the BIOS it says I will not be able to start my operating system.
If all this means is that I will have to reinstall Windows from CD/DVD, then I can live with that.
What should I do to get the option of booting from CD/DVD back?

I figured it out.
EUFI only displays the CD/DVD boot option if you have an EUFI-bootable disk in the drive.
When there is no disk or a Linux boot disk in the drive the CD/DVD boot option does not show up.
When there is a WIndows 8.1 installation disk in the drive, the CD/DVD boot option shows up.
In the old-style BIOS the CD/DVD drive showed up whether there was a bootable disk in it or not.

Pavilion TouchSmart PC 20-f323, how to boot from a DVD?

My client has a HP Pavilion 20-f323 TouchSmart PC with Windows 8 on it and wants to downgrade and install Windows 7 Pro instead.
However, my first question here is, how do I boot to my Windows 7 Pro DVD on the TouchSmart PC? I cannot even find a boot menu option to boot from the DVD player.
Any other URLs pointing to this downgrade process would be appreciated!

HP doesn't recommend the installation of Windows 7 on a computer shipped with Windows 8, nor will it support the installation of Windows 7. HP will not provide Windows 7 drivers and suitable drivers may not be available for the hardware in the computer. Also, Windows 7 may not support some of the hardware or software features designed for the computer.
Make sure you create your HP Recovery Discs or USB Flash Recovery media before modifying or changing ANYTHING.
You will need to purchase a new copy of Windows 7 with a valid COA and product key.
The screen shots below are from an HP 15t-j100 notepad computer... the options and configuration screens on your computer may differ.
You will need to DISABLE "Secure Boot" and ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the "BIOS Secure Boot configuration" on the settings page similar to what is shown below, before you can attempt to install Windows 7;
After saving the changes, the computer will request that you confirm the changes... Accept the changes by typing the four digit code and pressing the "ENTER" key.
If are you are installing from a USB stick and see a "Load Driver - a required CD/DVD drive device is missing" message, this is because "System Configuration" > "USB3.0 Config in Pre-Boot" is set to "Enabled". This must be set to "Auto". This should clear up the CD/DVD device missing.
Additionally, as the hard drive is most likely partitioned as GPT, you must boot using the UEFI-Internal CD/DVD or UEFI-USB Key/Drive to install Windows on a GPT partitioned disk. Turn on or reboot the computer and tap "F9" or "ESC" and then "F9" when prompted. Highlight the UEFI boot source you are using and press "ENTER".
I suggest using Windows 7 SP1 for the best intallation experience. If you need Windows SP1, please see "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" to download and create your own Windows 7 SP1 disc. If the DVD refuses to boot as UEFI, you may need to use a USB Flash drive (may require DISABLING "Fast Boot" in the BIOS) as the installation media. Please download the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to create a Windows 7 SP1 USB Flash drive. Please note that some computers may not recognize a valid UEFI enabled USB Flash drive if it is formated as NTFS and may require a FAT32 formatted USB Flash drive. You should be able to make a FAT32 formatted Windows 7 installation USB Flash drive using Rufus, UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer, or WiNToBootic. I like Rufus, as it has options for "GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer" and "FAT32".
From the top...
1) Turn on the computer and immediately start tapping the "ESC" key.
2) When the MENU comes up, press the "F10" key.
3) Navigate the BIOS to "System Configuration", "USB 3.0 Config in Pre-OS" and set to "Auto".
4) Navigate the BIOS to "System Configuration", "Boot Options" and set "Secure Boot" to "Disabled" and set "Legacy Support" to "Enabled".
5) Press "F10" and click "YES" to "Exit Saving Changes"
6) Computer should restart and display "Operating System Boot Mode Change"... type the four digit code and press "ENTER".
7) Let Windows 8 boot-up and place the Windows 7 SP1media in the DVD drive or USB port, then log-off / shutdown.
8) Turn on the computer and immediately start tapping the "ESC" key.
9) When the MENU comes up, press the "F9" key and then select the correct UEFI boot source (Internal CD/DVD drive, USB CD/DVD drive, USB Flash drive, etc.)... Press any key to boot CD/DVD, if prompted.
10) Select "Language", "Time / Currency", and "Keyboard" settings and then click "Next"
11) Click "Install Now"... check "Accept Terms" and click "Next". Click "Custom (Advanced)".
12) You may need to supply AMD SATA/RAID drivers at this time... Download AMD Chipset Drivers (Chipset / AHCI / USB 3.0)
13) "Where do you want to install Windows 7???" Select "Disk / Partition" with "Unallocated Space" you created earlier and click "Next".
14) Follow all prompts and answer as needed. Enter Windows 7 key when requested.
Please post the Windows Device Manager's "Hardware Ids" (just the text) for all remaining missing or unknown devices as shown in the example below;
