Boot & Installproblem with Satellite 220CS

One of my collegues got a Satellite 220CS running windows 95. He would like to use it to connect it to the internet. The drivers & devices supplied in order to be able to connect are in need of win 98 so he asked me if I was able to install 98 on it. I supposed it would be a simple install, I inserted the win98 disc into his computer, the cd booted by itself and it asked if I wanted to install 98. I said ok and it started to check the system. After some time I got a message that it was impossible to install it due to the incompability of both os'es (95 and 98). So I decided to reboot the system into MS DOS and try to install it from the cd drive by going to D:\ . Everything went just the same as in windows, systemcheck was done and I got the message the '98 version couldn't be installed as there it was incompatible with 95.
Now the problem is we can't exit the setupscreen, it remains at the systemcheck but nothing can be done. No way or manner to exit is shown on the screen. When we eject the cd and turn the system of in order to reboot it automaticly jumps back to the setupscreen of win98 which is blocked, nothing can be done.
Is there someone overhere whom is able to explain me how I can reboot his system like it was before, or maybe better, directly install win 98 on it?
your help would be much appreciated!!
thanks in advance

Hi,
ok, sorry, is CD alright? Perhaps it is damaged with a scratch or something else?
If you have the possibility to use another W98 CD try it!
To block this error message during the setup is very difficult!
When the recovery CD ocurre the same failure then it seems that the hardware is damaged perhaps! Did you checked your CD-Drive? Test the install setup with another CD drive if possible!

  • Slow boot up with Satellite P300-18M (PSPCCE)

This question has already partly been asked, however, I would like to ask everyone this question specifically:
Does anyone experience a slow boot up with the P300-18M ?
Please, even if your machine boots properly, I would be grateful for a reply, so that I can see if it is a problem with all of these machines, or if there is a problem with mine.
By booting slowly, I mean that:
After the vista 'Loading' screen, and 'Orb' appear:
    http://vistasupport.mvps.org/images/install_vista/vista%202%20copy.jpg
    http://www.windowsreinstall.com/winvista/images/Image57.gif
I get the screen below, for about 2 minutes:
    http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3033/2853070854_91b4b7dcfa_b.jpg
I have tried disabling EVERYTHING from starting up at boot (using MSCONFIG)
Could people please share their experiences with the P300-18M
    Thanks, Jack

Do you have a network attached? Perhaps DHCP is slowing the system?
Vista has a built in Boot logger in Event Viewer, which shows you a list of Events that took longer than normal.
Go to Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Event Viewer
Then go to Applications and Services Logs -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Diagnostics-Performance -> Operational

  • Boot problems with Satellite Pro M40 running Windows XP SP2

The computer suddenly shut down when I was using it. I switched it back on and all I get now is a screen which apologize for any inconvenience and telling me that Windows did not start successfully, with options to start in their different modes ie.
Safe/normal etc. I have tried them all, without success, if anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful.

    Hi
    > Safe/normal etc. I have tried them all, without success,
Because of your statement in the first post I assume the notebook does not boot successfully and you cannot access the Windows.
In such case I would recommend the simplest OS reinstallation from the Recovery CD.
If this procedure fails, the hardware malfunction is possible In such cases its not easy to say what could be wrong.
But we should focus on the memory and HDD
However, if you dont have own resources for troubleshooting I would recommend contacting a technician for an additional help.
    Good luck

  • Impossible to Boot from CD for satellite 220CS

    Hello,
    I have a toshiba satellite 220CS/1.4GB model no. PA1240EYV-NLDI
It has a removable diskette station.
Later I get a separate 6x cd drive model no. XM-1402B, Ver. No. 002, ROM Ver. KF60118.
This drive has is own case and I can connect it aside to the laptop
I can remove the drive out his case, but it is not possible to change the cd drive with the diskette station.
This cd drive dont fits into the space of the diskette station.
When I connect the drive with his little cable to the laptop, and I tell the BIOS to boot from CD then I hear the cd spinning an I see the LED burn for a short while.
    But he doesnt boot.
I tried to use the thing as a non boot device.
The OS on the laptop is Win95 (I want to change that)
    I modified config.sys and also autoexec.bat.
I used for this the original drivers for the cd drive (downloaded from the internet).
But the system dont sees the cd drive.
The BIOS said that it is possible to boot from CD, but why not my system?
Who can help me with this problem
    Thanks,

    Hi all
checking my memory, which can be wrong here, it should be possible to take out the FDD from the 220CS and put a CD there instead.
The CD works fine INSIDE the computer but will not work in the case. The case is intended only for a FDD. The case can also be used as a 'parking space' for the CD when not in use.
    You can remove the FDD/CD from the 220 by;
    - turning the machine upside down
    - unlocking the bay-lock with the small switch.
    - ejecting the device by gently pulling/lifting the eject-lever.
When installing another device don't forget to lock the bay-lock again.
    Good luck.

  • Satellite 220CS, DVD compatibility

Can anyone tell me what DVD drives are compatible with the satellite 220CS?

    Hi,
DeGroninger is right. The Satellite 220CS has an Pentium with 133Mhz and a 2MB graphic card. With this hardware you can't read or watch DVDs.
Sorry, but the notebook is too slow!
In some notebooks with slow processor are built in hardware decoders for watching DVDs. But as far as I know such a decoder is always built in and not additional!

    * Quick Intro / About *
Hello everybody... im new to linux in general and arch caught my eye since i have an interest in learning programming... i figured arch's documentation was better than that supplied for ubuntu since it's more in depth and has the core utilities needed to get a base system running with in-depth explanations (which i like). trust me when i say, i have read almost all of the arch documentation more than
a few dozen times and have completed this successfully before...
    * My Problem *
I installed my copy of Arch with the Core Utilities package and followed the wiki guides to the tee. i've done several test installations with VMware and Virtualbox OSE and decided to do it for real on my Toshiba Laptop Satellite l305d-s5895... all my hardware is currently supported by the majority of the Linux Distro's (i did my homework). I am attempting to do a dual boot with Arch and Windows

any help would be amazing! i have no idea why at boot the computer searches for a network connection
    instead of the GRUB! >.<
i am able to boot however with the Arch Live Disc and access my filesystem for both Arch and Windows 7
    and resume normal use!

well, just as an update... i believe it is a software issue... i wiped my whole HDD with gparted and set the partitions with Arch Live Core Install medium and GRUB worked perfectly... i created an NTFS partition as well for Win 7... hopefully the Win Installer wont overwrite GRUB and use its own bootloader. i was re-reading an area of the wiki and found...
    - GRUB must be installed on the MBR (first sector of the hard disk), or the first partition of the first storage device to be recognized by most BIOS's.
    source: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gr … stallation
hopefully i can just reinstall GRUB if needed with the Live Disc and i can boot win7 and arch like that...
if an suggestions, or comments, please...would be nice.

Yes. Windows supports external USB drives.

  • Cinema DIsplay sleeps when I use Boot Camp with Radeon 5870 through DVI connection

I just created a bootcamp partition on my Mac Pro (1,1) with Radeon 5870 and XP Professional so I can play Train Simulator 2012 with maxed out settings. Well after hours of installing Windows XP and updating it (via Parallels so I could do other things while waiitng for Windows) I got Train Simulator 2012 installed, Windows XP Professional fully upto date and reboot to bootcamp. I see the Windows screen and then my monitor goes to sleep (best guess). I am using an Apple Cinema Display 20" and is of course connected to the DVI port. One guess (and I hope I am totally wrong about this) is I think I remember reading the DVI port id display 3 not 1. I hope this isn't the problem (requiring me to buy a $40 Mini Display port for DVI adapter.
Any ideas as to why this is happening? I was so looking forward to playing Train Simulator with maxed out graphics via Boot Camp with the Radeon 5870 1GB. Don't get me started as to why my line out is not being detected by XP Pro.
I also have the latest Bootcamp drivers for XP (3.2).

Never used XP and on Mac Pro I wanted to use all 4-cores and more than 1.9GB RAM but often it seems that in the past and with Fusion anyway you would need to install Windows updates and drivers natively not thru or in the VM.

Hold the Option key down and restart. Select one of the drives that comes up and hit the Return key.

  • Please Help :( iMac 20" refuses to boot up with anymore than 1gb ram?

Please Help iMac 20" refuses to boot up with anymore than 1gb ram?  It was fine 4 days ago and had been working with a 1gb stick in one slot and a 2gb stick, which had replaced the orignal 1gb stick that I got it with, in the other and it had shown 3gb of ram and was working just fine with that since November?  It went to sleep briefly 4 days ago while I was waiting on a customer and I came back to try to wake it up and it never would forcing me to hard boot it.  When I did that it would only go to a black screen with a solid white light on the power indicator.  Over and over again and same thing.  I read and tried every suggestion I could possibly find in this and a few other mac forums to no avail.
I finally after reading about RAM issues etc.  I decided to power off and take out the ram sticks and try them one at a time in each slot.  So I took out the 2gb stick and did the SMC reset and it would boot up and work just fine with the 1 gb of ram.  So then I went through the same process with the 2gb stick and it would not boot up only go to a black screen with white solid light again (NOT flashing).  So then I tried the other original 1gb I had replaced with the 2gb and it worked just find like the other 1gb.  So then I tried just 1gb stick in the other ram slot (back facing one) and with just the 1gb strip it booted up and worked fine.  Tried it with the other 1gb stick and once again that one too worked just fine.  So I determined it wasn't the slot itself I thought?  I then tried the 2gb in the back slot and it would not boot only go to the black screen white solid light deal like before.  So I thought well ok it's obviously the 2gb ram must have somehow went bad (even though I have only had it since November) and I thought well I will just use the (2) 1gb sticks in each slot and then that will at least give me 2gb because only 1gb really ***** LOL.  So I proceeded to go through the same shut down process installed both sticks (I always push them to I feel them click and my fingers have a nice indention on them) reset the SMC and turned the power one and.... It would only go to the black screen with white solid light on power indicator????  I went through the same above process at least 3 times and again today a few times and I can't figure it out and I tried to search and search and I couldn't find anything like what I am experiencing.....What happened?  Please help this slow Imac is killing me.  It will work with 1gb ram only nothing more?  Here are the specifics of my Imac.

  • Driver issue FIXED in Vista / boot camp with new, unibody macbook pro!!

Hay people, I found a fix for the freezing issues with Vista running in Boot camp with the new, unibody Macbook pros. The driver for the 9600M Gt is no good if you install it from the Apple 2.1 version driver disc (Mac osx disc)for some (most) of us.
I needed to go to Nvidia's site and download the one from DECEMBER 08. If you click the "download drivers" tab on the site, scroll past the current driver it wants you to look at (go to the near bottom of page), click the archives, and input your OS version. Also input "Gforce" and "M" series when needed. It will give you a choice of two drivers. DO NOT CHOOSE THE FEB 09 Driver. Thats the BAD driver for most of us. Choose the DECEMBER 08 driver. Download and enjoy. Be sure to roll back the VGA driver (or the current driver) first before you install this. It should work.
I've been through the ringer with this for weeks now and have even tried to take my MBP back to swap for a new one. Apple wont have any of that so I thought I was SOL. Not quite. This DOES work for me with Vista. It also works for Windows & if you have it handy.
By the way, I am posting this for people who HAVE HAD THE FREEZING problems, not for people who haven't. Apparently there are some out there who are running Vista just fine on their unibody MBS's. Most of us are not.
Cheer's-----Seattle, where the evil empire looms dark

This never worked. I sold that machine and got a new 17" unibody. IT, by the way, works just fine. I KNEW it was that **** 15'. It took 30 more seconds to boot up I found out also.

  • Mac mini not booting up with 8GB memory after 10.7.2 update

My mac mini is not booting up with 8GB of memory after the 10.7.2 update. It just keeps on beeping and flashing the led.
If I take out the upper DIMM (Bank 1) It boots just fine, and it does so with either one of the 4GB DIMMs in Bank 0, so the DIMMs are fine. It also boots up fine with two 1GB DIMMs installed simultaneously, so the Bank 1 seems to be somehow working as well.
This trouble started right after the Lion recovery update, meaning the mini has never booted with the full 8GB installed after the update.
It worked just fine before that, with the full 8GB of memory installed.
    Anyone else having similar problems?
    Cheers, Otto.

I have upgraded my 2011 Macbook Pro and my 2011 Mini Server
to 8 gig with Corsair RAM and have had no issues
(CMSA8GX3M2A1333C9).  What brand RAM was used?
There have been issues in the past with some RAM
    brands.
Something to try is a PRAM reset with the 8 gig installed.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mh26871.html
Also, make sure the Minis are booting into 64 bit mode.
    Open Applications->Utilities->System Information
On the left side click the software heading.  There should be a line
      64-bit Kernel and Extensions:          Yes
This should be the default for 2010 and 2011, but something could
    have got hosed.

  • Can't Boot up with 9.2 cd, Can't select 9.2.2 as start up disc.

Needed to use classic app and needed to start computer up usint 9.2.2 (classic). Tried to select it as the start disc under system preference (under 10.4.6). Even though 9.2.2 is on the drive, it doesn't show up when looking in the start up preferences. Then I tried to boot up with 9.2 system disc while holding the "C" button down on keyboard but the computer no longers recognizes the cd. This has not happened prior to 10.4.6. I was able to boot from disc or set 9.2.2 as start up disc under system preferences. Classic will start while in 10.4.6, but cannot start up on it's own. Has anyone run into this problem and if you have is there any work around?????
    1Ghz Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Running Classic/Hypercard

I am confused when you say you cannot boot into classic.
Booting from OS9 is not classic. Opening OS9 while in OSX is called running OS 9 classic.
Now..if your system allows you to boot natively into OS9, and now you cannot..it is probably due to a firmware upgrade that came with OS 10.4.
Your system does NOT want you to boot from OS9 anymore, so you do not see your system 9 folder as an option for boot up.
I would try to ZAP the P-RAM and then try to boot to your CD.
If that does not work. You may need to boot from an older version of OSX on a different volume or HD (perhaps and external drive)in order to see your OS9 folder again.
It is always good have several Hard Drives with different systems on them for use when things go wrong with upgrades.

  • Mac mini will not boot up with two monitors attached

New Mac mini running OS 10.10.1. I have a LCD monitor attached to the HDMI port, and a Cintiq 21 UX LCD monitor attached to a thunderbolt port.
It boots up properly with only the first LCD monitor attached to the HDMI port.
When I leave both monitors connected before starting the computer I get no chime, and a black screen. The light on the front of the Mac mini comes on, but nothing else happens. I have to turn off the Mac mini, unplug the second monitor and then reboot. It always starts up perfectly then. After starting the computer, I plug the second monitor in, and everything is fine.
It’s kind of a pain in the neck to constantly plug and unplug the second monitor from the back of the Mac mini. Is there anything I’m overlooking?

Thank you, Illaass! Resetting the SMC solved the problem! I tried that first because I would prefer not to lose any preferences, and also because it was the easiest to try. You must be a genius in addition to being such a good egg!
(This is the number of smiles I smiled after my Mac mini booted properly with both monitors connected.)

  • MBP will not boot up with USB devices connected

I have a late 2010 MBP 15 10.7.2 that will no longer boot up if any USB devices are attached. A dongle, a hub, anything. It goes to the gray screen and stays there. Disconnecting all USB devices the MBP will boot up. Then connecting the USB devices they work. It just will not boot up with anything connected to the USB ports. I have reset PRAM, SMC and fixed disk permissions. Made sure login items are ok, and start up disk is correct. I cant really say when the problem started as it worked fine before, maybe on 10.7.1? Not sure.
    Any suggestions for a fix?

I re-installed the 10.7.2 combo. It booted up with a non powered usb 4 port hub but it disabled it. Plugging it out then in again and it works. Looks like the USB firmware has changed somehow in 10.7.2, The hub works on PC's at work no problem, and it worked on the MBP without issue previously. Its not just the non powered hub its a powered hub, and other devices.
    Any solutions?
